i feel this is just an ego trip on the part of the poster - i'm not sure any man in his right frame of mind will go to such an extent - some ladies just want to exaggerate the extent of a man's pursuit in other to make themselves feel good but if it's true i must say i feel ashamed on behalf of the man in question (if there is anything like that) as it's such men that drag the reputation of other men in the mud cry

SportsBelgian Coach Applies For Eagles Job by woye77(op): 8:58am On Jan 27, 2010
As the issue of whether the current chief coach of the Super Eagles, Shaibu Amodu should lead the team to the World Cup Finals of South Africa or not, the chief coach of the Namibia national team, Belgian Tom Saintfiet recently threw his hat into the ring, stating the reasons he thinks he should be considered as the man to do the job of taking Nigeria to the Nirvana everyone in the country has been dreaming about and salivating on.

1. In just a short while at the helms of Namibia affairs, I have made a meaningful impart into the team.

2. Now a less-fancied Namibia side that possess far less top players than the Nigerian team, are now flexing muscles in the continent.

3. All of a sudden, as a result of the good works that I have done with Namibia, the Brave Warriors are no longer seen as one of the African minnows of the game.

4. I am one of the few who can look Nigerians in the face and promise a medal at South Africa 2010. This means I am assuring of a semifinal ticket or more.

5. Before I came to Namibia, Brave Warriors were averaging 10 losses in 12 matches. But since my arrival at the helm, they have been cruising at just two losses in the same number of matches. This is a testimony to my ability to work miracles.

6. I have the capability of instilling so much confidence; both in players and fans, so much that just after a year in charge and the aura now surrounding the team and the results they are posting, Namibians are now confident enough to give their national team a new pseudonym that had been taken out of one of my names. They now call their team ‘The Saints’; as taken out of my surname of Saintfiet.

I have no other than one of the most successful coaches in Nigeria’s history backing my claims up and guaranteeing that I am right for the Nigeria job – Clemens Westerhof.
•Westerhof’s recommendation of Saintfiet was included in the letter of application, which the Belgian submitted to the Glass House, the football federation’s headquarters.

In the words of Westerhof for Saintfiet, the applicant is a good candidate for the Super Eagles job and he added: "He has shown and proved that he can work in Africa. With the minimal resources he had in Namibia, he has wrought something akin to a miracle with the Brave Warriors. This is a proof that given a better situation, like that of Nigeria, he would achieve plenty of results.”
It is notable that former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, has also thrown his weight behind the Saintfiet. In Oliseh’s words, Saintfiet is capable of doing a very good job with the Super Eagles at the World Cup. Oliseh says he is vouching for him because he has worked with him in the past.

SportsAmodu Seeks Keshi's Help For World Cup by woye77(op): 6:02pm On Jan 26, 2010
Under pressure to get additional assistance ahead of this year's World Cup, Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu has contacted Mali coach Stephen Keshi to work with him in preparing the Super Eagles for South Africa 2010.

However, top officials in Nigeria are now looking the way of Zambia coach Harve Renard.

Amodu has been working in a pressure-cooker environment prior to, and after qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup, with the majority of fans and media baying for a foreign coach.

In recent weeks, officials of the PTF, a body set up by the Nigerian President conveyed an order from the Vice Presidency to have the coach fired after what have been perceived as poor performances at the Nations Cup.

However, Amodu has what appears to be an iron-clad contract with the NFF, and after qualification for the semifinal, has seen his position made even stronger, especially with the backing of NFF bigwigs.

Unwilling to disobey what amounts to a Presidential order, but also seeking a way to keep their coach, the NFF held a series of meetings with Amodu before the quarterfinal game against Zambia on the way forward.

The coach was said to have suggested Keshi, with whom he qualified Nigeria for the World Cup in 2002.

"Amodu has contacted Stephen Keshi and says that is he who he prefers to work with," a top source told KickOffNigeria.com exclusively. "He has been under a lot of pressure to get somebody to come in and work with him and he has decided to go for Keshi.

"His reasoning is that this is Africa, it is an African World Cup and the children of Africa deserve the chance to represent their continent on the field and on the bench.

"He asked them if Keshi has not done enough, or served Nigeria enough, or whether he will not understand the Nigerian player's mentality enough to do a better job than any white mercenary who will come in."

KickOffNigeria.com was informed that Amodu contacted Keshi, after Mali's first round exit, and both men have held fruitful discussions, although any final decision will have to wait until after the Nations Cup.

But all the non-stop late night meetings are said to be taking their toll on the coach, and additional pressure has now been heaped on with some officials suggesting Zambia coach Harve Renard.

"Before we played Zambia, some officials came up with the idea of the Zambia coach, when they saw that the Mozambique coach would no longer be acceptable after his defeat by Amodu."

But Amodu is said to be uncomfortable with the idea of having a European working alongside him as that might cause friction.
SportsAmodu Admits, Nigeria Did Not Play Well by woye77(op): 6:00pm On Jan 26, 2010
Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu admitted that his team did not play well as they scraped past Zambia in a penalty shoot-out to reach the semifinal of the African Nations Cup on Monday.

But he remains convinced that he has a team good enough to win the tournament and improve before this year's World Cup.

Amodu's Super Eagles needed goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama's heroics, saving and scoring one, to squeak their way past a better playing Chipolopolo, and the coach conceded that his team were second best on the night.

"Today, we have not played too well but it was good to speak as a team. It is not the best right now, but getting better all the time, and within five months we will be much better,” Amodu said after the game.

Defeat would have almost certainly cost the coach his job, but Amodu says that was not a concern for him.

“I was worried about the reputation of Nigeria, not for my position: it was not good to be eliminated again at the quarterfinal (as in 2008)."

On that occasion, the Super Eagles were beaten 2-1 by ten-man Ghana.

The Nigeria coach also praised his opponents, saying Zambia were a good team.

"We had to overcome this obstacle, because Zambia is a very good team, attacking and defending together. I told my players that this would be one of our toughest matches."

With this hurdle out of the way, Amodu has now set his eyes on the big prize.

"Since the first day, we said we had a team that could win the tournament. I know I have players who can do it."

But first, they will have to settle the matter of their West African rivals Ghana on Thursday

SportsEnyeama Says Victory Is Divine Intervention by woye77(op): 1:22pm On Jan 26, 2010
Nigeria's penalty hero Vincent Enyeama has passed the credit for his heroics to God, after saving one penalty and converting another to take the Super Eagles to the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

"I just thank God. It was a crazy game, a difficult one for us," said the Hapoel Tel Aviv goalkeeper after the game.

Gracious in victory, he also gave credit to the Zambia team, predicting a bright future for them.

"They are a very good team - believe me, they have a great future."

It is not the first time Enyeama's activities in and around the box will prove decisive for Nigeria. At the 2006 Nations Cup in Egypt, he saved three spotkicks to take Nigeria past Tunisia and into the semifinals.

During the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup, he kept eight clean sheets, seven of those in consecutive games, with some magnificent goalkeeping, despite constant changes in personnel in front of him.

There is this friend of mine. We have been together for over a year now. I know he is interested in me, but has said nothing. When I also began to feel something for him, I sent him a text message informing him of my feelings for him. He called me back to inform me of the need for both of us to sit and discuss.

My fear is that I don’t know if what I did is right, because I am scared of any damage to my reputation.

Worried Lady.

I am a boy of 21, dating a girl of 26. She loves me so much to the extent that she is ready to do anything for me. When we started, she hid her age from me, even when I told her mine.

We do plan to marry, but I am too young for her. She has tried to persuade me to get her pregnant to make our union acceptable to all.

Along the line I also discovered another major draw back. She can’t read or write. From that point I knew she has been lying to me all along, and instantly knew why she was so desperate to have me in her life.

Sincerely, her being illiterate doesn’t bother me as much as her age, a whopping five-year gap. To me, this is unacceptable.

In the last six months, I have been trying to avoid her, but she doesn’t want to leave me alone. Our relationship is running to a year and two months now. Please, I your advice on what to do.

Should I continue with her or terminate the relationship? Her family is very much aware of our relationship. I don’t know what to do.

Agali moves to sell N150m mansion for survival
By EPHRAIM NWOSU

Saturday, January 23, 2010

There are feelers that erstwhile Super Eagles goal king, Victor Okechukwu Agali, may have gone bankrupt, following his resolve to sell his N150 million palatial home located at 5th Avenue, FESTAC Town, Lagos.

A close confidant to the former Hansa Rostock and Schalke 04 ace told SoccerStar that the lanky striker was financially broke and has been selling some of his priceless property, including cars and houses, to keep body and soul together.

According to him, the Delta-born ace has struck a deal with a renowned estate agent to sell the eye-popping mansion for nothing less than N100 million to anybody who is interested in buying it.

“Things have not been rosy for Agali lately,” he said in disbelief. “He is really going through hard times.

Unfortunately for him, all his friends have abandoned him just because he turned his back on them when things were going well for him while he was still playing for the national team and signing big contracts with top European clubs.

“He is now ready to sell his mansion at FESTAC Town for N100m to enable him start picking back the pieces of his life. Most of the materials used to build the house were bought from a European firm through hire purchase, so he wants to sell the house to raise money for the remaining payment as well as meeting up with other personal commitments that could cause him embarrassment.”

Agali who plies his trade with Xanthi FC of Greece had been recently arrested by the Dutch Police in Amsterdam for carrying two fake passports, but he has since been released after investigations proved him to be innocent of the offence he allegedly committed.

Court orders probe of President's Health

, Declares FEC Unconstitutional

Nigeria drifting towards failed State, says Akinjide

By Muyiwa Adeyemi, Abiodun Fanoro, Lagos and Lemmy Ugbagbe, Abuja
BARRING any last minute change of plan, the ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua will arrive the country next week, even as the move is said to be against the advice of his doctors.

A competent source revealed last night that some members of his kitchen cabinet referred to as "hardliners" have concluded plans to bring him back to the country to defuse tension.

President Yar'Adua had in the last 61 days been receiving treatment in a Saudi Hospital, though there were unconfirmed reports that he might have left the King Fasaid Specialist Hospital in Jeddah.

The source also revealed that to convince his doctors that he would continue his medication in Nigeria, a giant construction company (name withheld) has been hired to build an Intensive Care Unit with life support machine in Aso Rock, Abuja.

It was gathered that the plan of this 'hardliners' is being coordinated by the President's wife Turai, who the source said "comes to Nigeria every other week to see to the lobbying of the members of the National Assembly not to allow debate that can make them pass any resolution that will mandate Yar'Adua to transmit any letter making Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President or call for his impeachment.

The source revealed that about N28 billion might have been spent in the last 60 days to maintain the status quo.

An inside source also disclosed that Economic Commission for West African State (ECOWAS) would, in the upper week meet in Abuja without Yar'Adua as its current chairman. "ECOWAS and African Union (AU) heads of state are said to be uncomfortable anytime Yar'Adua attends their meetings because of fear that he could collapse as a result of his frail look," the source said.

Meanwhile, fresh controversy has been thrown up in the legal circles as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Daniel Abutu yesterday declared as unconstitutional the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and its purported resolution in favour of Yar'Adua's ability to continue in office.

The Chief Judge held that the FEC was unknown to the country's 1999 Constitution and as such lacked the competence to reach a resolution on the vexed issue of the 'absentee' President's ability to perform his presidential duties.

Delivering his judgement in the suit instituted by former Minority leader in the House of Representatives, Farouk Adamu Aliyu and Sani Hussaini Garun Gabbas, challenging Yar'Adua's absence without handing over to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, Abutu said under the provision of Section 144 of the Constitution, the only body that can competently decide on the capacity or otherwise of the President to perform his function is the Executive Council of the Federation.

He also held that the court could take over the exclusive duty of the Executive Council of the Federation as spelt out by Section 144 of the 1999 constitution and therefore declined the Plaintiffs' prayer to that effect.

Abutu held that the excerpt of the resolution of the Federal Executive Council meeting annexed to an affidavit by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) did not help his case because "the Federal Executive Council is not known to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

The defendants had "annexed to the counter affidavit excerpt of Wednesday December 9, 2009, text of the resolution of their 46 meetings,"(where it) "took notice of the call of the people for President Yar'Adua to resign council having viewed all the facts on then resolved unanimously that there was no basis for the call and that President Yar'Adua was fit."

Consequently, Abutu ordered the Executive Council of the Federation to within 14 days pass a resolution on whether or not, having regards to President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's absence since November 23, last year, he is capable of discharging his executive functions.

He also held: "I can not give an order directing the Vice President to begin to perform the functions of office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, since he has been performing such functions".

Reacting to the verdict, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN) said he would study it even as he pledged that he would comply with it.

Plaintiffs' counsel, Bamidele Aturu expressed happiness at the outcome of the case, saying it was victory for democracy.

Specifically, the plaintiffs through their counsel Bamidale Aturu, went to Court seeking the following declarations among others:

A declaration that the absence of the President from the country and from his statutory duties and functions for medical treatment since the 23rd day of November, 2009 in a Saudi Arabia hospital outside the purview of section 145 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 constitutes permanent incapacity within the meaning and intendment of section 146 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

A declaration that it is unlawful and unconstitutional for the President indefinitely to exercise or purport to exercise the powers of the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from a hospital outside the territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A declaration that the indefinite absence of the President from Nigeria since 23 November 2009 without notifying the National Assembly or authorizing the transfer of the exercise of the powers of the office of the President to the Vice-President is compatible with the oath of allegiance and oath for the due execution of the duties of his office prescribed in the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution by virtue of Section 149 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

A declaration that the non-consideration by the Executive Council of the Federation for the purpose of passing or rejecting as resolution proposal as to whether or not the President suffers permanent incapacity as a result of his absence from his statutory duties and functions since the 23rd of November, 2009 for medical treatment is a flagrant violation of the spirit and letters of section 144 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and an indefensible breach of their oath of allegiance and oath for the due execution of the duties of his office prescribed in the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution by virtue of section 149 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999", among others.
Elder statesman and former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN) has expressed fear that Nigeria is progressively moving towards becoming a failed state.

Akinjide is of the view that the present constitutional crisis precipitated by the continued absence of president Yar'Adua and his refusal to hand over power to his vice, among others, are problems pushing the country to the precipice.

The elder statesman however lauded former President Olusegun Obasanjo's un-equivocal advice to President Yar'Adua to resign if he knew his health could not enable him to perform functions of his office.

His words: "I read in the print media, the view expressed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, telling President Yar'Adua point blank to resign if his health could no longer cope with the demands of his office. I believe Obasanjo has said it all. I want to say categorically that Obasanjo's view reflects and represents the view of the over-whelming majority of rational, patriotic and objective Nigerians"

The former minister, however, absolved Obasanjo of any blame in the emergence of Yar'Adua as president.

According to him, Obasanjo must have sought and relied on expert advice before throwing up Yar'Adua for the presidency.

The blame, according to him, should go to whoever gave the medical advice that Yar'Adua was fit to rule: "I think something was wrong with the medical advice Obasanjo was given. (Though) I am not competent to comment on that because I was not an insider, but whosoever gave the medical advice saying that Yar'Adua was fit to perform the functions of his office, has contributed immensely to the present crisis. During the campaign (in 2007), it was an open secret that when Yar'Adua was campaigning in Ado-Ekiti, he collapsed, which shows clearly he could not cope with the stress of his office," Akinjide said, arguing that Nigerians have the right to know the medical record of the president and the true state of his present health.

"We now have a nation without a leader; we now have a boat without a captain, we now have an army without a general. I will not say that is a failed state, but we are steadily moving towards that."

The legal luminary identified bad leadership, corruption and absence of an efficient constitution as some other problems impeding good governance and also causing it to drift towards a failed state status.

While casting aspersion on the zoning formula in the emergence of the country's president, the former minister declared that what the country needed was a committed and patriotic leader irrespective of where he or she hailed from who would fix the country.

He noted that the time had come for the emergence of such a patriotic and selfless leader who would help restore the dignity of the country, restore its values and the image which had been badly battered.

PoliticsHow Ojo Maduekwe Disgraced Himself In New York by woye77(op): 11:41pm On Jan 23, 2010
Umaru Yar’Adua’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ojo Maduekwe, got more than he bargained for in New York today on his latest ministerial junket allegedly to discuss the inclusion of Nigeria in the list of nations in involved in terrorism. The Minister who spent N2.7 billion on foreign travels last year alone, arrived in New York York accompanied by the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign affairs, Umar Bature. Maduekwe’s misery started upon arrival in New York as the US State Department refused to meet with him. Saharareporters had reported yesterday about a trip to Nigeria by Mr. Johnny Carson of the department to meet with Goodluck Jonathan, in view of Yar’Adua’s prolonged absence from office, the nation’s disappearance from international reckoning, as well as her increasing religious crises and the uprising in the Niger Delta region.

Mr. Maduekwe had banked on meeting with the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Ban ki-Moon, a meeting he hoped would open the door to the presence of Ms. Susan Rice, the US Permanent representative at the United Nations. But all those hopes and permutations collapsed, as Mr. Maduekwe ought to have known in Abuja, as the US was in a mood to meet the Foreign Minister of a country whose president had disappeared for two months.

Only yesterday, Mr. Maduekwe admitted what was worse the BBC program Hard Talk. He told the presenter he had not spoken to Yar’Adua since he left Nigeria on November 23 2009, and could not explain where he was getting his instructions.

That embarrassing experience meant that Maduekwe embarked on his US trip determined to turn up a semblance of success, turning to the Nigerian diplomatic staff in New York to get him a top-level appointment at all cost. Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Professor Joy Ogwu, was at Maduekwe’s Millennium Plaza Hotel this morning, but apparently did not have good news for her boss.

In order to ensure that some report went to the Ministry of Information in Abuja for rebranding and propaganda purposes, and to the Nigeria Television Authority for “news” that he had been hard at work in the United States, Mr. Maduekwe directed the diplomats to organize an emergency press conference for him at the UN. The UN Journal for Friday, 22 January lists no press conference for Nigeria or Mr. Maduekwe.

But Mr. Maduekwe, who could have chosen to speak to the “Enough Is Enough” rally being held by Nigerians in front of Nigeria House on the other side of the same city block, decided to hold a conference, any conference.

When Saharareporters got wind of it and tried to attend the conference, we were told that no conference was listed for Nigeria in the building. Through persistent investigation we found out the “secret” conference, where he had set up shop trying to bamboozle a few journalists about the “progress” being made in Nigeria and puffing arrogantly about his credentials as a capable hand in the vision of “Mr. President”.

It then got to Question Time, and the balloon was about to burst. Saharareporters asked the Foreign Minister where he had obtained the mandate to be junketing around the world at the expense of Nigeria’s poor and exploited, especially in view of his confession that he had not spoken to his principal for 60 days.

Shocked, the minister became angry and refused to answer our question. Angrier still, and forgetting he was at the United Nations in New York, not the Foreign Ministry in Abuja, he called on the security in the room to ask if something could be done about our reporter.

When it became clear to him that our reporter could not be removed from the room just because he asked, he lost his composure and pretence to diplomacy at the highest level. “You’re a miserable guy,” he told our reporter, “You are miserable…if you don’t think I am competent, come home (to Nigeria) and take up something, ”

The Minister is billed to return home tonight after raking up another $2,000 bill for his Millennium Plaza suite for Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN and the Nigerian consulate to clean up. The hotel bill will be much higher than this because there were other “officials” checked into the hotel as part of Mr. Maduekwe’s entourage. The Foreign Minister will also leave behind the nation’s diplomats, who have yet to receive their staff salaries since December 2009.

In New York today, there was no sign of the Senate Chairman on Foreign Relations, Jubril Aminu, who was earlier said to have been on Mr. Maduekwe’s entourage. But the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission yesterday called Saharareporters and denied that its chairperson, Mrs Farida Waziri, was in any way associated with the Minister’s visit.

it's not wise for people to try killing off threads just because they don't fancy the topic - if an issue has been raised before i provide the link and even then nothing stops an issue being discussed again for the benefit of new members angry

the bible says sarah called her husband Lord (I Peter 3:6) "Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, " smiley and i think in Africa it isn't proper for a decent housewife to call her husband by name - whatdo you think?
