No. Import duties are different based on the type of goods involved. This thread is about vehicle import and not food. Those who bring vehicles through land borders are trying to avoid all duties. You will sometimes see them dump vehicles in the bush and run away. when you go through the proper channel, you won't care about border closure.

Why should the Nigerian made be affordable? You can't compare the product prices of companies who sell millions to those who sell thousands. The million company can afford to sell cheaper and still make a profit. We need the duty to make local manufactures competitive.

The whole essence of increasing import duty was to make local manufacturers efficient enough to produce more at cheaper rates but it's like the prices of locally assembled cars have continued to soar instead. The problem in this country is just too many.

Very few countries, even rich ones can compete globally and locally in the auto industry. That should tell you something. If all they need is to impose a duty and they magically have powerful auto manufacturers, they would be doing it. It is either we depend on foreign imports and gain unemployment or stagnant economy or we stick to duties. This kind of policy takes decades to produce result. Indian currently imposes 100% import duty on many vehicle imports and has started planning to hike them even further.

Don't do this, please. Most states in Nigeria have different laws and there has not been a war over it. Also, many Americans are opposed to laws they find unfair in some states.
