For the Op, I can only advise that your friend carefully confront her husband. Emphasis on CAREFULLY. Her husband being a pastor, I want to believe there is some measure of a conscience or at least a fear of shame and exposure.

What people save for is the money for dowry, list, ceremony etc which is usually a one-off expenses.
