Mine was importation, The mistake I made was not handling the business myself and I have no physical outlet, I rely on online market to sell those goods , The money was tied down for like 7months then I take the goods to computer village where Igbo boys started giving price that’s not up to 5 percent of the amount I buy the product, Atlast I stop importing and divited into something else.
Mine was around 2006 or 2007. I was working in a financial institution and nursed the idea of running a laundry business as a side gig due to an opportunity I saw. Prior to that time, there was a lady in the area I resided then, she worked at a business where I usually patronize, I observed she was a very good, decent and diligent lady, so I 'toasted' her (trust boys nau) but she was foot-dragging about my advances, so I decided to back- track.

Months later, we spoke and she informed me she longer worked there, I was happy and she asked me why, I immediately told her my plans and offered her an opportunity to manage the new business I was about to set up to which she agreed. We launched the business, a sizeable one and I did a lot of marketing, so customers started pouring in, including my friends and church members.

The business went on very well for about 2 years and I was making money so comfortably that I wasn't really touching my salary where I worked except for the loan I took to start up, the lady didn't steal my money and even if she did, I didn't really care because I was happy with what she remitted, besides, I trusted her so much.

Then trouble started, she started giving me 'attitude', I was confused because we maintained a good working relationship, so on a fateful weekend, I took her out to have a discussion and the outcome shocked me!- She had been properly managing the business in my absence ( I only went there occassionally after I close from work in the evenings) because she saw it as 'our' business, that she's been waiting for me to follow up on my earlier advances and start thinking of settling down with her, I was speechless.

To cut the long story short, she eventually left when she saw I was more interested in growing the business than having a relationship with her. Every manager afterwards was a sorry story, they stole so much that I wanted to close down the business, sadly, I encountered an unprecedented financial challenge at the time and sought investors, funny thing is that I even posted it here on Nairaland, that I was looking for investors....lol.........I eventually closed down the business and that experience remains one of the most painful in my life.

Conclusively, I'd say Human Resources was my bane. Without good and sincere people especially Managers, your business is likely to suffer.

Please read my post again sir, I never used 10% rate.

Well, GTB as I know gives 3% rate for fixing N100,000 for 30 days. U can negotiate for a higher interest if u are going to fix more money for a longer period.

I don't know about other banks though.
You need to be clear please, 3% per annum or 3% per month?
BusinessRe: What Lead To The Collapse Of Your First Business? by Yoighaman(m): 1:44pm On Nov 16, 2019
Houstency:
Your submission Sir/ma is fraught with inconsistencies in calculations and understanding of the process. For that amount, you can't get that rate in any Nigerian banks. The 10% rate you used as an example is per annum , to get a month's rate from it, it is prorated which is less than the 10% you quoted. Else tBills , FGN savings bond etc wouldn't have subscribers.
Please tell us the bank that pays 4.5% monthly interest on a savings account, that's 54% per annum. So the bank would mobilize deposits at 54% and lend it out at between 15-23%? Always reflect on what you are about to type.

So what if he used Lagos as an example?

If you had an opportunity to own your own house in say Maryland or Yaba for instance, would you prefer to forgo the opportunity and rent instead because of some mumbo jumbo economic theory?

Every opposition is corrupt, a fool, clueless and shameless as long as you are on the other side of the divide, that's politics for you. It happened during the PDP era, it's happening now and would happen again if power changes hands. Those in power should enjoy the game, those out of power should be hopeful, las, las, they would all be alright.

When you see this same people lambasting our politicians about corruption ehnnnnnnnn

You see why i will always say Nigerians don't really hate corruption. They only angry with our politicians and pretending to hate corruption because they are not the one carrying out the corruption

Government should look into their parastatals, agencies, ministries and department. Too many corrupt practices
I am disappointed in you with this your post!!!

CelebritiesRe: Busola Dakolo Loses Rape Case Against Fatoyinbo, Court Asks Her To Pay N1M by Yoighaman(m): 7:49pm On Nov 14, 2019
bizme:
You and I understand why the court process has to be based on evidence-based prosecution. There are disadvantages in that however, especially rape cases, and given that most victims will not come forward when the rape just took place and evidence could be presented. Coming after 20 years is as good as losing the case before it even started.

The Bible had an interesting way of dealing with this (with your permission I will point this out). In in the Old Testament if a woman was raped within the city and she did not scream out for help, the sex was considered consensual and the two of them would be punished. If however she was raped in the field (like on the farm, far away from city) she was automatically considered a victim, because even if she had screamed no one would have come to her rescue; in that case only the man would be punished.

Busola claimed to have been raped right under her own father's room, with family members around at the house. She did not scream. She did not report it. Other sexual contacts occurred after that. She did not scream, she did not report to anyone. Now, in the absence of any evidence, what are the chances that the sex was not consensual in the first place?

Bringing this to bare for the benefit of real rape victims. There is no other way other than reporting the rape immediately it happens. I admit that many of our police officers are biased and backward and they would even be blaming the victim for going to the man's/woman's house in the first place (visiting someone at home, or even lying on the same bed with them is never consent for sex, consent is merely inferred from these actions when there are other evidence supporting it). It is better for these victims to report at agencies in charge of such things. Especially in cases where the victim is a woman, there are NGOs to report to, immediately. I mean immediately, because then it will be easy to gather evidence of struggle and the likes.

Lastly, I must say that every rapist not reported is another rapist empowered to continue his/her criminal way. When you are a victim of rape and you do not report immediately, you are indirectly responsible for other people like you who would later become victims from the hands of the rapist not reported. And as much as rape cases are being reported, the court has to find a way to sift untrue allegations from genuine ones.
Well said.

PoliticsRe: Sowore: Washington Post Condemns Buhari Over Detention by Yoighaman(m): 10:47pm On Nov 12, 2019
People should please stop this nonsense of saying Sowore supported Buhari...and so? He did because that was the right thing to do at the time. I voted for this Buhari all the times he contested so I can be categorized with Sowore but we all make mistakes and learn from them.

This President is flaunting court orders, do you realize what that implies? The judiciary is the last hope of the common man and here is someone doing it with impunity. Imagine yourself in prison and the court grants you bail and some folk somewhere who thinks he is above the law deems it fit to overrule court orders.

The quest to ensure Sowore's release without prejudice means well for our democracy, please let us protect the only voice we have which is freedom of expression as enshrined in our constitution, freedom of expression in a peaceful protest is allowed anywhere in the world, why should Nigeria's case be different?

Please let's leave the messenger and stick with the message, you never can tell what tomorrow holds for any of us, we can find ourselves in this kind of situation and if we condone it, it just might boomerang, Sowore might not have realized this fact but we who are free should.

FamilyRe: Must My Father Be The One To Receive My Bride Price? by Yoighaman(m): 6:33pm On Nov 11, 2019
@OP, this is my opinion but I might be wrong.

To me, your 'family' are those who were part of your life, those who were there through thick & thin, those on whose shoulders your tears dropped when you were in despair feeling lonely, down and out, those who encouraged you and gave your life a meaning. When truly important moments in your life come, they are the ones who are not only entitled but deserve to share them with you, they have shown you nothing but love, you love them too and those moments are opportunities to prove it to them. That said, if you believe deep down within you that your father is who you really want, then please go for it, your conscience can sometimes be your judge, please stick your ears close to her. I wish you all the best.

FamilyRe: Man Found Money His Grandfather Hid In The Ceiling 30 Years Ago by Yoighaman(m):
So sad, especially if his offsprings have not been doing too well. That is the reason why it is good to have at least a person you can confide in when it comes to money matters, at least the money or investment wouldn't be lost to total strangers or as happened in this case in a ceiling. Too bad.

I have to admit I'm actually talking from experience. I used to know a 9ja guy from a wealthy family who studied law at Harvard (same school attended by many presidents). He became addicted to crack and was living in a crack house. His family had to forcefully bundle him back to Nigeria. Not long after, I heard he was dead, romours of suicide
You keep delving towards the exceptions, please stick to the rules.

No exceptions please, you are a first class engineering graduate from Harvard, no drugs, nothing....please tell me how you will end up teaching in a secondary school? That's what I really want to know.

The thread simply asked if u regret studying abroad. The guy said he does because despite Harvard he still ended up at Oshodi. Your immediate response is that u can't end up in Oshodi if u went to Harvard. I'm telling you, YOU CAN! The guy may be lying but u can
A first class engineering graduate from Harvard University? Please tell me how, I really want to know and please don't go mystical.
EducationRe: Nigerians Who Studied Abroad, Do You Have Any Regrets? by Yoighaman(m):
PoliteActivist:
He never said he couldn't get a job or no one was interested in him. The scenario he presented is quite possible. All it takes is a trip to jail followed by deportation and alcoholism or addiction to hard drugs.

However I think the post is probably false for the following reasons:
1)"Boys high school Houston" (Google says no such school exists)
2)Harvard in USA (bet he doesn't know what city Harvard is in)
3)What sort of name is " God's saviour"?!
Maybe you are still doubting because you still 'think' his post is false, well I'm telling you it's a big fat lie. Only someone who either did not go to school or doesn't understand the power & influence of such institutions would swallow his lies/joke; hook, line and sinker.

The purpose of this thread is to share experiences on how going to school abroad has affected your life, do you regret it? Very simple question and he responded by saying he went to the best schools in the world yet ended up in a secondary school in Oshodi and some peeps are here making assumptions and excuses for him, what happened in-between is not our concern, let us face the essence of the thread but I'm telling you the guy was just joking. Big, fat lie.
EducationRe: Nigerians Who Studied Abroad, Do You Have Any Regrets? by Yoighaman(m):
PoliteActivist:
Here is what the guy said. Don't put words into his mouth. He only said where he ended up despite everything. (BTW his post may also be false or partly false):

"I attended Manchester primary school in uk, attended boys high school Houston in united states and graduated from Harvard in United states with a first class in Engineering, but with all these I am a teacher in God's saviour secondary school in Oshodi. So in all what is my gain? This world is wicked."
This is the crux of his post "...so in all what is my gain?..." so what does that tell you? Simply put, he settled seabed beneath his dreams and aspirations. Anyway, I insist it is not true and the whole post is just a hoax, believe him at your own peril of having distorted thoughts, isn't it obvious that dude was joking?

I don't want to ask you some questions so I don't sound insulting, so I'd ask in another light, I assume you watch football, would you believe it if someone told you a Balloon d'or winner has no top-notch club interested in him? That s/he is living a low life? Who doesn't need one of the best materials in the world for his business? And by the way, they don't come cheap, so when next you want to go for a comedy show, please look out for that poster's moniker on the list of performers.

He didn't say he was stranded. Co- founder of Apple also quit and went to teach elementary school
Please let us not derail this conversation and put things within the context of this thread and the guy's post.

His post centered around not getting a good job despite having gone to Harvard, that he had to settle for a job in a secondary school in Oshodi, Lagos, Nigeria and I'm telling you categorically that, that is flumadiddle. It's one thing to have a passion for teaching and you willingly opt for it, it's another thing to take up the job because you are jobless, that guy's joke exemplifies the latter and it is utter gibberish.

Who finishes top of his class with a first class at MIT, Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Oxford, Cambridge etc. and finds himself jobless with no choice other than to work in a secondary school? Again, please don't let that clown distort your thinking, such people are head-hunted, even the so-called village people would helplessly watch them slip away.
