Politics › Re: Ifeanyi Okowa Has The Opportunity To End This "Delta Igbo" Toga by Yujin(m): 11:13pm On Nov 05, 2019
gidgiddy:
Stop talking nonsense, there is no difference between an Igbo from Delta state and an Igbo from Imo. Igbo is Igbo.
Say all you like but it won't change the reality on ground. Of all Igbos in the SS, Igbos of Delta are circumstantially different in that they were never regionally together with the rest of us. They underwent a lot of name change due to the politics of Nigeria. They were first in western Nigeria and were referred to as 'western Igbos. Then they were carved into the Midwest and were identified with that nomenclature. When Handel state was created, they again were being called 'Bendel Igbo' including us from the SE. Today, they're referred to as 'Delta Igbos' and majority of us from SE still refer to them as such. Though we all are Igbos, subconsciously, some of us still show some little segregation when dealing with them. Didn't Peter Okocha complain about it when the issue of the sixth Igbo state was being considered by the federal government? This is the truth. Fortunately, say from the last five years, a great awakening came to the SE Igbos on identifying with our people in SS and I'll say IPOB did a good job there. So, when you see pockets of these Igbos from Delta state still identifying themselves so, just assume that these are the few that are yet to be awakened and the job lies on us to bring them to the fold. Let me digress a bit. Not long ago, my own Anambra folks both online and offline tend to mock our Ebonyi people (whether jokingly or not). Today, our enemies have latched on this to try and cause disaffection among us. Thankfully, my Anambra pips have seen the error in this and have started to stop the foolishness. No one can rebuild Igbo unity except us and we must do this with tact. Our enemies are so itchy so continuously see to our disarray so that they can easily steal our entitlements. Nwanne, see things from another angle and don't be quick to blame our people who need our support. Udo diri umuIgbo nile. Isee!

About a week ago I went visit my sister at her home and met her with her friends 10 year old daughter who was also visiting. When I asked the girl where she was from she said she is a "Delta Igbo" from Ibuzo in Delta state. I had to tell the girl that Ibuzo was just the short form of "Igbo bi n'uzo" which translates as "Igbos who live along the road". It struck me that the younger generation of Igbos indigenous to Delta state now call themselves "Delta Igbos" as if this is an actual ethnic group. It's almost like me saying that I'm "Anambra Igbo" or calling calling Emeka Ihedioha an "Imo Igbo"

The Governor of Delta State happens to be an Igbo man. I think that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa should do something to halt this trend of of people starting to believe theres an ethnic group called "Delta Igbo", no such thing exists, Igbo is Igbo. Ifeanyi Okowa should make a proclamation or a public utterance reminding indigenous Igbos of Delta state that the appellation "Delta" is just for geographical convenience and not an actual ethnic name. If this is allowed to continue, in another 50 years, these people will start calling themselves "Deltans"
Hello Gidgiddy. It seems you're too bothered over something as little as this. It shows your level of desperation. She's just 10yrs old and barely knows the dynamics of what she said. You can't fault her a bit. Calling Okowa here will not solve anything. The best antidote to such identities comes from us (Igbos from the SE). It is us that will give them the confidence to identify as Igbos without appending any other differential identity. If we accept and treat them exactly as we would treat Igbos of the SE, then naturally they will drop that name and there won't be any difference. I know that lots of us unconsciously differentiate them that's why they usually identify themselves like that. It's a gradual process. I've been able to work this out with a couple of matured Igbos from Delta who hitherto won't want to be called Igbos plainly. I used the same strategy as I mentioned here and over time they've blended in now and confidently speak Igbo with the rest of us. You know some of their Igbo words differ from the consensus ones we use. I encouraged them to gradually use those ones as we also had to give up our own dialectical words for the general ones we all use now. Never did I laugh at some of their little different words. Today, we relate better and they openly enjoy their Igbo heritage. The work lies with us bro.

left to progressives like us we will suggest a new ethnic name for delta or fully prioritize Anioma as ethnic group dissolving them also of any Igbo link...like the Rivers.

Gone are the days when they used to say number stands for strength....It doesn't work again.

south-South are better represented and catered for in Nigeria because they have Nigeria mentality while their will be less suspicion been in Nigeria. I have also argued that in any case Igbos (East) are well cartered for in biafra as there will be homogeneity of thought and no suspicion but rather development driven by exploration of available means to survive...#fact.

All these Igbos this Igbo that will be a forgotten issue.

Even if you "block" the waterways, (which is impossible anyways), will you also prevent planes from landing and taking off in Biafra? You receive goods all the time from DHL, how do they do it? So your Nigeria wont be bothered about how to make their Nigeria work? they will be more invested in how to make sure Biafra don't work. See una life?
This is exactly how the minds of the evil sons of the fallen demon work. All day, they spend their time thinking on how to frustrate any Igbo venture. Take your time and study them and you will arrive at the same conclusion as me.

If u want to hear the truth try and listen from both sides don't just listen your own part.

You claim to be from Akwa Ibom but call Igbos Okoro forgetting the fact that Akwa Ibom people whom you are impersonating bear the same name ( Afonja you can check the names of Justices that presided over Atikus' case for confirmation) Don't forget to thank me for teaching you what you don't know because you haven't left your brown roof enclave..

Nice one.
Igbos integrate too, amongst northern christians (Jos & Kaduna) and parts of Yoruba.

Igbos do not integrate with Hausa fulanis because of religion and this is very understandable.

Yoruba muslims are attacked by christians in the north sometimes, but not all the time.
Or are you saying that if a vehicle of Hausa & Yoruba muslims is intercepted in a christian area during crisis, then the Yoruba muslims will be spared?
You see some attacks are circumstantial. If for instance a vehicle bearing both Hausa and Yoruba Muslims are stopped, the safety of the Yoruba there depends on his appearance and ability to convince the mob. If his appearance is too Islamic than the average Yoruba looks, then it becomes hard for him to escape. If on the other hand he looks the usual Yoruba looks and claims to be a Christian despite he's a Muslim, he will be spared. See most Christians are not quick to shed blood. The propensity to kill only increase after losing loved ones. During such crisis, majority of Yoruba Muslims still feel safe among Christians. There was a particular situation where a Yoruba Muslim who ran to a camp of the Christians which happen to be a church compound. When it was time for Muslim prayer, he brought out his kettle to do ablution and many people there scolded him asking him why he had run away from his religious brothers to come there. He was asked to either stop the ablution or go meet his Islamic brothers.

If you are from the East,be careful of arochukwu she devilds
From page 1-6, no one has subtly attributed the bad behaviour associated with some women to a location except you. Don't you think you're wrong here? Women are women all over the world. Wasn't it the popular Bob Marley that sang that song: 'No woman no Cry'? See my friend, bad behaviour is not exclusive to a particular area.
Divorce rate is on the increase and the simple reason in my opinion is the recent gender equality women are demanding from men. It simply will never hold well for the society. If there's leadership tussle in the homes, be rest assured that the society will be wrecked and that leaves our society in chaos. I'll always use the South African society as a case study. Women over there don't value men because the laws are so protective of women which eventually makes the women to act with reckless abandon. The SA men who are on the receiving end seeing frustration from the situation now see violence as the only way to vent out their anger. That has wrecked the society over there. Do they still do weddings and are marriages still intact? Yes, weddings still happen but most of them end in divorce and separation. Others in violent murder. Marriages are steadily on the decline. This is what is happening now among educated partners in Nigeria. When a woman is enlightened on her rights, most times she squeezes out the last drop of juice from it not knowing that it will eventually destroy her happiness. Other factors like women wanting to live up to the make belief lives of the actors they see in movies plus the craze of societal competition. On the side of the men, it's basically two things: marriage infidelity and openly showcasing it plus not fulfilling their marriage obligations. The combination of these characters is what has ravaged the marriages of the new millennium.
From what I see, it can hardly get any better. My advice to men is that we must be watchful of women because they pretend a lot. Money doesn't guarantee love but it can get you availability and excitement. Test women with the occasional denial of what they gravitate towards and see their reactions. This will tell you how she can behave afterwards. As for the women, knowing your right is good but applying wisdom in handling those rights will keep your home and happiness in tact. Eating your cake and still having it will never end well; men are not foolish. Know that marriage is work and you will reap the benefit more than the man in the long run. Who remembers the man when the children are all grown up? It's always the mother that's invited and lavished with gifts. The old man is hardly bought a decent cloth. He's blessed with whiskey to kill him faster.
In conclusion, women must realize their place in the society if our communities must remain sane. This is the truth. Feminism is a disease that should be wiped out fast. Our society needs a collective input to remedy else, we all shall be doomed.

And if I am to ask you guys. How or what exactly have Igbos done in order to deserve the love of their neighbouring minority tribes?
(Let us even leave out the Yorubas & Hausa-fulanis who are a majority tribe and assume majority rivalry between the big 3 tribes).

Do you guys think love, admiration and respect is just earned like that?

When I was in Uniben, my closest friend was an Oguta boy from Imo state. His father was Esan originally, but even his father grew up in Imo state. His mother was an Oguta indigene and they all grew up in Oguta. So I see absolutely nothing that is Esan about this guy.

This guy was the most Igbotic person in my department. He spoke Igbo better than all the full Igbos in the department, he gives Igbo parables grin and most times he was always the one that gingers the other Igbos to freely speak Igbo in the class.
(Igbos tend to have a language inferiority complex compared to Yorubas & Hausas). Yorubas & Hausas speak their language anywhere, anytime and anyhow and they don't care.

Whenever I was going to buy electronics in the market, I always take him along. Infact, I had a terrible deal once with an Igbo trader on a product. He was the one who saved my life and got me a better deal by scattering undiluted Igbo for them grin

Now this guy in his life can never badmouth Igbos or hate Igbos. If he goes to his village in Edo state and he hears his people talking bad about Igbos, he will instantly correct them. This is because he owes his upbringing to Igbo land and feels a certain allegiance and love to the land....

This is one way Hausas & Yorubas heavily win the hearts of other people, especially their neighbouring minority tribes.
They are very welcoming and accomodating of others in their land and they will never discriminate you as long as you integrate into the culture.
This my Oguta friend for example, I'm sure he will never be able to contest and win elections in Imo state because they will always remind him that his father is from Edo state.
Igbos are a very clannish and petty people when it comes to ethnic nationalism. However, if it is Hausas and even to an extent Yoruba, this my friend will easily be accepted, but in Igbo land, an Mbaise man will not even be accepted in Ngwa to lead Ngwa, even if his grandfather was born in Ngwa. How terrible.

I am from Jos and during the Jos crisis, I saw so many Yorubas, Igbos and others who grew up in Jos and were writing very nostalgic pieces about the crisis, enlightening the world about what was happening and mobilizing people for peace.
I never even saw the written piece of a Plateau indigene. Most of these people no longer live in Jos, but they owe their upbringing to Jos and hence their allegiance.
I have met people in the south, who are from the south but grew up in Jos or anywhere around the north and immediately they saw me and knew that I was from Jos, they immediately took me as a brother and had this sense of kinship and trust towards me. They will call me their BROTHER grin

Likewise me who is from Jos and I grew up in Delta state. Whenever I am outside Delta state and I meet a Deltan. I always feel this sense of kinship.
When I was in Kebbi state for youth service and I heard 2 people speaking Urhobo, I was very excited and I greeted and introduced myself with the little Urhobo I knew grin I was always patronizing them before others, till I left that place.

Life is a give and take. You cannot reap from where you did not sow.

This is why I ask you Igbos, what exactly have you people done to deserve the love of others?

You are not accomodating and welcoming to strangers, you are not very sociable and free. You people do not intermarry very well. You do not give opportunities to other people in areas you dominate. (Abia state govt sacking all Imo state workers from their civil service comes to my mind).
It is always you people taking from others. Outsmarting and defrauding others in business. Taking advantage of opportunities in people's lands but never giving them in yours e.t.c, yet you always cry of how all other Nigerians are against you or hate you people.

Continue in your self induced pity and delusions or wake up to smell the coffee.
Most of what you wrote here is true but I'll have to correct some wrong assumptions. As to language inferiority, it is not true. Igbos don't feel inferior speaking their language freely. You fail to realize the level of psychological suppression the Nigerian government placed on the Igbos. There's this look that great Igbos whenever they speak their language outside the territory they dominate especially in the north and no one can tell what can happen to him or her after identifying yourself through your language hence most of them speak English coupled with the accusations against Igbos of trying to force others to speak their language. Did you notice that until recently, most Igbo musicians of contemporary music rather infuse Yoruba or Hausa into their music? It is because of what I told you. Do you notice even in the clothes most Igbo politicians and celebs wear until recent? It is because of the same thing. The moment an Igbo man tries to assert his own culture, he becomes a suspect and is termed dominating. As for discrimination, my people do this a lot and as you rightly pointed out, it is not specific to others. We even do it to ourselves which is most worrisome. Hopefully, we will get over it soon. I believe it is born out of our highly competitive nature.
You see Pazienza is my friend, brother and comrade but in this particular case I'll fault him although I understand his fears. I lived in Jos and the relationship with the natives was not all rosy as we had to tolerate a lot too from unwarranted name callings to outright abuses but we were able to look at the brighter side and didn't have to condemn the indigenes. We noticed that ignorance was a huge reason for the numerous misrepresentations which most of you fail to factor in when Igbos are being discussed. After some events, most of them(natives) were apologizing to us for their actions and rightly blamed it on ignorance. We had no choice but to forgive. It still doesn't mean that once in a while I don't get to see some Plateau indigenes who hate Igbos but I know better to isolate those instances from the pervading present situation. The fear of a relapse in critical times is what Pazienza fears hence still painting you all in one brush. I can assure you that Igbos are a very nice people who unfortunately are sending most times the wrong vibes. Igbo are republicans and that makes them to have independent mindsets. Meet the positive minded one and enjoy a world hard to see. Meet the negative one, and have your heart filled with pains. As a people, we can hardly fit into the description most of you expect because it's never going to happen. See someone like Aguiyi Ironsi who would never listen to the advice of his fellow Igbo brothers to make his security aides to be from his own people but rather chose to remain professional. It cost him his life and placed all Igbos where we are today. See someone like Nzeogwu who everyone believes had a genuine plan for Nigeria but was betrayed by Ifeajuna who was so selfish. See someone like Ojukwu who I believed was the most misunderstood man of all. He sacrificed a lot from being pro Nigeria to having to lead a brutalized people at a very young age. Wealth was never a problem for him and he was on his way up the ladder to personal fame. He would have been a great leader if he had led a country. He was highly pan African and know the prejudice Africans faced. See how divers minded we are but to you all, we collectively want to dominate you. This is why I choose Biafra over Nigeria because that suspicion will always be there and Igbos will never change into the description most of you expect. Do you see what happened during the days SE dominated the Senate Presidency? It was all individual assertions. If Igbos are rightly integrated into Nigeria, all that's needed is for others to support the particular Igbo man against another suspected of being too ethnocentric. But thinking to suppress all Igbos simply because some of them appeared domineering will see to the continues rejection of Nigeria just as it stands today. If all Igbos were dominating like most you think, then we would have dominated all the surrounding minority tribes around us but it hasn't been so.

I think I agree with you here as a Jos indigene.

Yorubas lost more people and money in the 2008 & 2010 Jos crisis firstly because Yorubas are of 2 religions. Both Yoruba muslims & christians are caught in the crossfire between both sides unlike Igbos who easily join forces with the christian indigenes and only suffer casualty on one end.

That of Yoruba muslims is even the worse. Hausa fulani muslims see them as inferior/fake muslims, so Hausas even chase them away from muslim areas too.

Most importantly, Yorubas are the kind of people who tend to be cowardly outside their homeland. An Igbo man can fight you even in your own village just to defend himself, his family & properties.
Yorubas use to truly dominate Nasarawa Gong areas of Jos, but they allowed Hausa-fulanis chase them out and take over the place without even a fight or showdown.
If it was Igbos, such would never have happened.

Cc Mandarin
Well I was silent on the religious dichotomy of the Yorubas being a contributing factor to their major loss because I know that most Yoruba Muslims killed were actually killed by their fellow Hausa/fulani Muslims. All Christians( settlers and indigenes) hardly attack Yoruba Muslims except in the case where the particular Yoruba was found assisting the Hausa/Fulanis in the attacks. So it still was majorly a one sided attack. Their failure to stand up and defend their territory was sadly their undoing.
You see, one Yoruba here was yapping on how Igbos don't integrate in the north but he failed to realize that integration could be in various levels. To the Hausa and fulanis, integration means joining them to do whatever they're doing even if it is wrong. Yoruba Muslims who though copy Hausas in almost everything but fail to join in the attacks are those either killed or chased away. Those who join in the attacks ended up being killed. Is that what integration is all about? We( I and my friends some of who are Igbos) always joined in the Izere people cultural festival that involves the painting of faces are moving around Jos with dangerous weapons without having to hurt anyone. I can't remember the name of that festival now. We use to chant something like this: ' arom bara, arom batsang x2- yei ni shosh. The drums were loud and rhythmic. It was fun. Even some Yoruba boys used to join. The only people who don't join are the Hausa and fulanis. In fact they detest it but someone here will tell me Igbos don't integrate.

oh k then you owe the world the body of proof for your argument. You see, in Nigeria, people argue how much their people are without any data to back it up. Having read the analysis on this thread, I believe all can read this including the CIA that assumptions on population composition in Nigeria has been and is still wrong based on unverified flawed and deliberately or otherwise data on which Nigeria population has erroneously been based.
If it suit anyone to ascribe any large disproportionate population to her ethnic group based on mere perception or wishful thinking, so be it. Contrary to many lies, arguments on population has been debunked severally. Igbo are traders so they travel, yes I concur but they are not the only traders in Nigeria, other groups are many in the North too as traders, artisans etc. To you, everyone not Hausa/Fulani in the North must be Igbo, big lie!
One of the key reasons Igbo are sometimes targets of hostilities is lack of integration. They do integrate in Europe and North America but because of this sense of superiority or inferiority the majority hardly do integrate within their communities in Nigeria except some in the Southwest especially second and third generations.
So my friend, you see am a student of history, strategy and analytics, I like to learn and accept that i have my limitations. If i can inform you, there are more Yoruba in the North than Igbo, in fact there are town founded by Yoruba traders before independent or amalgamation!

I don't think its right for any Igbo man to think the mind of everyone elsewhere is rigged against them haba! this was the thought of Ben Carson for his brethren when he advised African American to jettison such mentality and they will excel but alas, they labelled him! The Igbo are probably the best capitalist in Nigeria and on average more successful economically and I often laugh at the idea that Nigeria is not doing well because she hasn't produced an Igbo president! amazing! The truth is that the Nigeria economy has suffered from series of policies and just like other groups, the Igbo contributed in no small measures as well.

What Nigeria need is a generation shift to patriotic Nigerians that are young and proactive that can bring strategic policy shift and not playing victim mentality or ingrained sense of ethnic bigotry.
Thank you.
You can continue to spew whatever you like but I just clarified you on the situation in Jos. Igbos are far more than Yorubas there. Igbos don't integrate into Muslim areas and are unapologetic about it. In other, areas they integrate well. Igbos are easy targets because of the average hatred against them plus the visible investments they have and not for any other reason. In Niger state, there are lots of Igbos including the Kontagora he mentioned. I've been to Minna and it was Igbos I saw there especially around the central market close to St. Anthony's Anglican church. I don't have to lie to convince anyone. I have relatives in Bida and they corroborate a large Igbo community there too. You see on thing every sincere northern minority will agree with me is that the presence of Igbos in the north is helping to balance the dominance of the Hausa and fulanis. Why is it not the Yorubas? Mind if the Igbo population is not sizeable it wouldn't make such impact. Bias against Igbos will always creep on here but the reality of ground can never be erased. I've gone to a good portion of the north to make these postulations.

Let me tell you what I know. There are several generations of Yoruba in the North in millions but many of them live directly within the Hausa communities. The recent generations together with the igbo live in secluded settlements. Because many Yoruba around Ogbomoso and kwara are enormous , a lot of them are muslims and culturally integrate. I've met Yoruba who are third generations in Katsina state. I'm not estimating for gainsaying but knowledge, there are more Yoruba in the north than igbo but in spread, may be more igbo because of trading.
Whether Wunkari or Yola Yoruba people are there.
Remember the crises that happened in Jo's and a lot of people complained that igbo were at the receiving end of losses, by the time the data was released, Yoruba people had more losses!
Thinking that igbo would be the next minority in every state is a mirage!
Yes, igbo and Yoruba are migrants but most postulated info on migration aren't correct.
The way some of you spin stories to suit your narrative is appalling. Igbos in the north are not even loud compared to those in other areas. I know that Yorubas especially from Kwara and Ogbomosho have lived in the north spanning three generations but even that doesn't equate the population of Yorubas to that of the Igbos in the north. You see, secondary school enrollment in the north will give you a better picture of both ethnic groups since they're both educationally inclined. This will rest the case. As for the unfortunate casualties in the Jos crisis being Yorubas, the reason is not far fetched. The location of the major battles witness more fatalities and in that case, the location was a Yoruba dominated location which they couldn't defend against the Hausas. I personally lost lots of Yoruba friends there. The areas were from Dilimi linking the whole Nassarawa area plus Rikkos. Nassarawa was hitherto the headquarters of the Yoruba settlement in Jos. I grew up there so I know. It had a sizeable population of Igbos too such that Igbo was being taught at a point in the Yoruba owned school I attended. After the first crisis, lots of Igbos left the area because it was poorly defended by the Yorubas who should have been the backbone of defense. It was in the subsequent crisis that the massacre happened. That's why the Yoruba casualties was the highest among the Southern settlers. Igbos from Nassarawa relocated to Igbo dominated areas and other indigene dominated areas with a good promise of defence and contributed to there defence. All Igbo dominated areas were well defended.
That said, Igbo population in the north is much more than that of the Yorubas. Is It in Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Abuja, Suleja, Lafia, Makurdi, Akwanga, Mangu, Shendam, Bauchi, Jalingo, Yola, Minna, Kafanchan etc

Ibibio land is also dense. Denser than tiv land, but Ibibios are not more than Tivs.
I think that is a fair analogy that roughly also equates to the dynamics between Yoruba and Igbo with Igbo being Ibibio and yoruba being Tiv.
It is not a fair analogy and you know it. Colonial records show Igbos with more population than Yorubas. Is it not so?

Population density of Igboland between the Central Anambra and the Central/Imo to Umuahia axis, as well as the central Enugu ridge between Ezike and Udi, I agree. But overall population is still a big toss up to be honest. And by overall population I am also including the Ikwerres, Ikaz, Ogbas, Kwales and all other igbo affiliated groups, even Ekpeye.
Igbo settlement pattern is the same as that the Fon of Southern Benin, still all Fon within Benin cant be more than 4 million.

Density x Landmass is what will result in eventual population not just density alone.
You're correct. We still have to consider the proportion of the densities when comparing both regions. The density in Igboland was about triple the average in other areas hence the earlier census done by the British showed Igboland as having the biggest population in Southern Nigeria.

Everywhere there. Even if they are tiny, theya re still present.
In many places within this obodo Nigeria ,igbos are tiny but prominent component of the fabric of towns. That is what many people don't know. prominent is not the same as populated That is how one of you was arguing that migrant Igbo Communities were more than the Ibibios in A/Ibom state and he was telling you guyz the reality oon ground.
I know about the prominence aspect but even the population count is can be very visible. I'll tell you something about prominence and population. Take for instance 'Ore' town in Ondo state has a prominence of Igbo business people yet has a huge population of Igbos living in the interior of the town. This is not the same like the prominence of Igbos in Okitipupa doing business without much Igbo population. It is with this understanding that I write about Igbo population distribution in both the West and North.

You are quite correct.
The natural leadership of christians in Nigeria rests in the hands of Igbos (as the largest christian population).

The core-north has succeeded in pitching all other Nigerians to be against Igbos and this is why christians will always be 2nd class in Nigeria even though we are the majority.

This is similar to what happens in Nasarawa state where the Eggons (who are the most hated tribe in the state) are the largest tribe in the state and are predominantly christian.

One thing Igbos & Eggons have in common is pride, arrogancy, a rugged, cunning, unaccomodating, discriminating, domineering and a loud nature.
This is what turns of the other christian tribes and makes them easily manipulated to hate you people.
Lol. The other adjectives I may not dispute but as for cunning and unaccomodating, that's not true. The problem is that Igbos don't like weaklings and if you appear so then you will think they are cunning and unaccommodating because they are treat you as someone they don't want. Weaklings are weak links. If you prove your worth they'll respect you and welcome you as a man. Many of those who do businesses with Igbos can attest to this. Well, thread is about demography so let me stop here.

Great analysis!

Hmm, I don't think Urhobos would be clearly more than Igalas unless of course you add Isoko to the Urhobo population.

2ndly, like I was telling garfield. If fulanis are the 4th largest tribe in Nigeria, then Hausa cannot be the 1st or even 2nd. They would be the 3rd.
This is because the Hausanized Fulanis of the Northwest are something close to 10 million. If you remove them from Hausa population, then Hausa shrinks significantly and cannot compete with Yoruba & Igbo.

Between Yoruba & Igbo, it is very very difficult to tell who is the largest.
All colonial records had Igbos with more population than Yorubas.

Igbos in the north are within the range of 7-10million. In the West, maximum 7 million. In the SE, 21million and SS- 6million.

Unless a truly sincere census compete with ethnic information is carried out in Nigeria, we will never truly now the positions of Nigerian ethnic groups with regards to population, but the truth is that the Hausas are scared to death about the prospects of a census with ethnic information, because so many tables will be broken to pieces.

Kebbi isn't a pure Hausa state
Kaduna will be a shocker
Jigawa has a large Kanuri minority of Mannga extraction.
Meaning only 4 of 7 (Katsina, Sokoto, Kano and Zamfara) are over 95% Hausa and Fulbe
Now, in the case of an ethnic census of these states some Fulanis will NOT self identify as Hausa and herein lies a huge problem. All those Lamidos and Dikkos, Bellos, Tukurs, Yeros, Sambos, Danfulanis, Baffahs/Bappas, Bappayo/Babbayos, Yugudas, Barkindos, Gidados, Jungudos Etc etc will all instantly become Fulani.

In the North East Zone.
Gombe is a majority minority state plus a plurality of Fulbe with hausas hiding under them.
Adamawa is also a largely state of Minorities with a prominent Fulani ruling class plurality with Hausas hiding under that. (similar to Gombe)
Taraba is also similar to the two above but with a smaller and less prominent Fulani component
Bauchi isn't a homogeneous state either with Hausas, Fulbe, Kanuri Bole, Jarawa, Warja etc being there.
Yobe and Borno are largely Kanuri with a host of minorities in Southern and Eastern Borno (Bura Pabir(Babur), Shuwa, Marghi, Buduma/Yedina, Chiboku, Mandara numerous others), and western Yobe being mostly Kare-kare, Bade and Ngizm. (Pottiskum and co)

So realistically speaking Yorubas or Hausas or even Igbos could theoretically be the largest ethnic group in nigeria.
BUT realistically Igbos are most likely 3rd with the Yorubas (1st or 2nd) and Hausas being (1st or 2nd), and Fulbes being 4 and Tiv or Kanuri being 5th/6th although I am betting on Tiv because of the ethnic breakdown of Borno and Yobe which i already highlghted above but which many people aren't aware of)

The CIA re dead wrong, sorry. Urhobos are even more than Igalas lol and they are not on the list. Also I am pretty sure their 'Ibibio' means Ibibio + Efik + Annaŋ + Ekid (Eket) +Oro (Oron) + maybe even the Andonis/Ibeno.

I was just laughing a few years ago when Ijaws were parading themselves as the 4th ethnic group in Nigeria. grin Una doh!

Most of what you wrote is correct but as for saying 'realistically' Igbos will be the third largest is a big fallacy. The threat of the huge Igbo population was one big factor for the hate in the north in colonial times and even during the war. Igboland had by far the highest population density in sub-saharan Africa

You state this like you are 100% sure of it.
If Lagos for example is 25 million people, how we say for instance that Igbos are 20% of Lagos state, you know that is 5 million Igbos already in Lagos alone notwithstanding the other SW states. How many northern states will you have to put together to obtain 5 million Igbos.
I'm 100% sure of that. Just three states in the north would cover that population. You don't know the population distribution of Igbos. Outside Lagos and its satellite communities in Ogun state, where else in the SW do Igbos have such conspicuous presence?

Am just over exaggerating to show that the igbos cant be more than the others.its a best case scenario.igbos usually claim that half of igbos are outside igboland.but realistically they cant be more than 5 million igbos in the west and 5 mil in the north
Firstly, there are more Igbos in the north than in th West. The north is made up of three regions with lots of cities and towns where Igbos are found in huge numbers. You don't know this. Then in the SS states outside Rivers and Delta, Igbos presence is still huge. You don't know this too. The day a credible census will done in Nigeria, lots of people will die of heart attack.
