bakila: Please use your leave and travel to Jos, Jalingo, Minna, Kafachan, Makurdi, Lokoja and Ganye. Talk with people and you will find out that those you mentioned have no interest in siding with your Nairaland permutations. After you are done with your travel engage Igbo political and business leaders in Abuja, Kano and Lagos. You will find out that the majority of Igbos give no thought to a Biafra-like civil war. The NIGERIAN ARMY dealt with Ojukwu not a Yoruba, Middle belt or Hausa army. THE NIGERIA ARMY, will deal will deal with any neo-Ojukwuist of violent Biafralist. Ask the people or Borno and Yobe with Boko Haram and THE NIGERIAN ARMY caused to the land. The same fate awaits any enclave in the east that attack the Army or Police of NIGERIA on biafra reasons. So in essence, the unity of Nigeria is by brute force? And you wonder why Igbos should not secede? |

asha80: oh so it is no longer south Sudan enjoying freedom but Sudan that is now causing the problems?..by the way your 10 to 15 percent of Igbo that do not want Biafra have you a sample to reach that agreement? Has it occurred to you that there are son Igbo out there that want Biafra but not the way kanu is going about it?really kill kumuyi? Is he mad?take up weapons he tells his followers...weapons to fight who if I may ask?on whose soil os the war going to be fought?Igbo soil?...it I not about a new country having it easy it is about common sense...i was okay when kanu was approaching un but when he started preaching hate and taking up weapons I just put a brake What I mean is that the largely Christian South Sudan are now enjoying autonomy and control of their natural resources which such as oil which the largely Islamic Sudan once denied them. There maybe disagreements between both nations and some skirmishes amongst the former war lords of South Sudan but it pails into signicance when you realise that they have achieved self rule. As for sample rate, I'm an Igbo man on the ground. I don't need a sample rate to tell me what the vast majority of what my people are saying. Amongst the older Igbos of 50+ who witnessed the war, there is near total support for an independent state of Biafra although many hope it will not be achieved by war again. The younger ones, between 18 or to 49 support the emergence of Biafra although some may be divided as to how to go about it. The 15 percent of Igbos who don't support Biafra are largely those who were born or raised outside Igbo land in places like Lagos or Kaduna and have since been 'Yorubanised' or 'Hausanised'. Those ones have lost virtually all link with Igbo land and can't even comprehend the notion of Biafra. Another set of Igbos who detest Biafra are those who have 'fat' off the rot called Nigeria and don't want anything to change. They include Business men, politicians and their hirelings top Governent officials. The last set of Igbos who don't want Biafra are those have adopted 'slave mentality' and are scared about the repercussions of Biafra. They are all in the minority. I listen to Radio Biafra from time to time and even though he is over zealous with his use of words , it's not without reason. That's his method of reaching his people or propaganda method. I disagree with Kanu on the use of violence against someone like Kumuyi. I think violence should only be used if the struggle for Biafra reaches armed conflict level. |

asha80: you call what is happening in south Sudan today 'enjoying freedom '?do you know what is actually happening is south Sudan today?make use of google my friend and believe many igbos who are at least comfortable will never subscribe to this your 'resilience' talk after crawling back after the civil war.. No one is that passed through that is ready to go through that process again What is happening in South Sudan is being engineered by Sudan same way that what is happening in Ukraine is being orchestrate by Russia. It's all about 'grabbing territory'. As I said before, no new nation has it easy. Not even America had it easy after winning their war of indepedence against Britain, but today they are the greatest nation on earth. I'm sure that many Igbos will not like the idea of Biafra, unfortunately for them, they are in a minority of maybe 10 to 15%. They will have go with the will of the vast majority of Igbos who are completely disenchanted with Nigeria. I wish Nigeria was a civilised Country like Britain that created it who offered Scottish people a referendum last year, but it not. The alternative might just be a violent break up. |

londoner: I say it again...Igbo's chose to neglect Igboland. Even the example of Stella Odua....did she run away to the UK? Or was that passion for the SE converted into an airport? An airport her people can use ( when they do not stubbornly opt to still go and use Lagos airport) ? Did she not make sure airlines did not come and are still wanting to fly from that airport?
Now that is FACT
She puts this KANU madman to shame along with others like her. She did not have to drop one drop of blood to deliver it either. Our own Igbo govs can term after term swallow any money meant for their states and you people say and do need nothing, but it is instead Yoruba's you want to accuse. When SE govs eat the money and use it build hotels in Abuja or deliver substandard roads that become death traps, what does Kanumadman say?
Why is he looking towards SW and ignoring those administrations in our own region that have refused for many years to build Igboland?
Let Igboland become self sufficient first because talking about succession rubbish.
No one is talking about running after Federal appointments either build, your own region that is what EVERY OTHER TRIBE is doing. Stop giving your best years to others.
Igbo's that troop to Lagos or Kaduna do not do so in search of appointments. It is a long standing trend that has cost the SE region dearly....that is FACT. Stop talking like someone who lives inside a box. If Igbos have neglected Igboland, can't you see that Biafra will reverse that trend? You talked about being self sufficient first, what nation on earth have you ever seen that is self sufficient? There comes a time everyone one has to strike out on their own no matter the consequence. The day I left my parents house, I had less than N400 in my pocket but that did not stop me from believing in my self. Kanu no doubt is an over zealous chap, but it understandable. He is a hardcore Biafran. I may not agree with some of his statements about agressive violence but I do agree that there may be no other way to achieve Biafra except through violence. It was with violence and intimidation that Lord Lugard used his "west African Fronteer force" to create Nigeria and it may well be that Nigeria will need violence to be dissolved. Either way, we must have Biafra. |

obailala: Permit me to break you argument into 3 parts... 1. The northerners will never agree to true federalism 2. Igbos will sell all their properties and investments and return home 3. We shall make Igboland (Biafra) much more attractive to the world than Lagos
Everyone knows the northerners would never support the idea of true federalism for obvious reasons. Everyone also understands the numerical capacity of the north. So what can we do about this?... Remember in the 2011 presidential elections, the northerners overwhelmingly supported Buhari while the entire southern Nigeria rallied behind GEJ. What was the outcome of that election?... GEJ gave Buhari a whooping 10million votes gap, the northern hegemony and numerical advantage was crippled. So how did southern Nigeria achieve that feat?... The answer is simple, UNITY!
Southern Nigeria united and overwhelmingly voted GEJ and the northern dominance was crushed. Fast forward to 2015 elections, it took just 60% of the southwest and 60% of the middle belt to support the northern candidate and the outcome was a historic defeat of the almighty PDP incumbency. In all these, all I am trying to say is that UNITY is the only key that can break the northern numerical advantage. A Warri proverb says, "na cooperation make rice full pot"
Unlike what we had in the 60's before the civil war, today the south-west supports true federalism, the south-south supports true federalism, a major chunk of the middle-belt supports true federalism and the south-east still wants true federalism. Presently, it is not the northern numerical advantage that stops us from achieving true federalism, rather it is the collective foolishness of the entire southern Nigeria to see the need for UNITY in order to achieve this great cause. I am particularly disgusted at the foolishness of some of my Igbo brothers who think the Yorubas are our enemies and who keep preaching hate against the SW. From history, the SW has always been our competitors and never our enemies. One wouldn't require much wisdom to know the difference.
Did you just say Igbos would sell all their properties first then head home?... Sell to who?... Where would the funds come from to buy Igbo properties?... I have an aunt who's been trying to sell off her house in Jos so she can relocate permanently to the SE. For the past 3 years she hasn't been able to get a reasonable buyer yet for a bungalow. But you think ALL Igbos can just automatically place all their businesses and houses and investments all over Nigeria for sale and then buyers would appear instantly with cash?... With over 70% of Igbos living and doing business outside Igboland, do you have the slightest idea of how much investments and properties Igbos have outside of Igboland?... Can the entire Nigerian budget even pay for the properties owned by Igbos outside the SE?... I am sorry to ask this but how old are you and what's your level of education?...
I'm sorry to say this but your current level of reasoning is sadly very common amongst most of the present proponents of Biafra; you guys have not spent a second to imagine the consequences but just keep reasoning like you are in dreamland.
Finally, you say we shall make Biafra more attractive than Lagos and I ask, "what stops us from making present day Igboland as attractive?"
Are you aware that if we still had reasonable and visionary leaders like Dee Sam Mbakwe leading us in the SE, the SE could have been miles ahead of Lagos by now?... Igbos have been begging successive central governments to build the 2nd Niger bridge and I ask, what stops the 5 Igbo states from coming together and building that bridge once and for all (even if it means placing a toll gate)?... Remember that even the GEJ who eventually wanted to build the bridge was going to put a toll gate to milk Igbos dry for the next 25 years and yet we were praising him. With the present crop of useless stomach politics leaders we have in the SE today, even if we achieve Biafra, what makes you think it would be any better than what we have today?...
Brother, the problem the SE in Nigeria today has is bad leadership and bad representatives and not marginalisation. A close look at Nigeria shows that not just the SE but all other regions are also marginalised by our useless leaders. If we cannot have good leaders today, we cannot still have good leaders even if we split into 100 countries. I don't think you are looking at the bigger picture here. I'm well aware that in the event of the emergence of Biafra, Igbos will suffer and make incredible sacrifices. But this is all about the future not the past. I know my people. Igbos are a resilient people. They are known to make something out of nothing. Ordinarily, what should obtain is that Biafra would immidiately join "ECOWAS" and guarantee that any Biafran can travel or live anywhere in west-Africa including Nigeria without need for a Visa. That's what the 'ECOWAS' in front of the Nigerian passport is their to remind everybody. However, we have to be prepared for anything. In the event of Biafra,we may have difficulty converting stocks and property to cash,we may even lose certain immovable investments but that is the price of freedom. God knows many people have paid a much higher price to be free. South Sudan fought for over 20 years and lost millions of lives to get the freedom they enjoy today. What matters is the future. Nigeria is cess-pit of deciet and incompetence bordering on the absurd. It has never worked as a nation and never will, not even if you make his Holliness, the Pope president. We have way too different personal interests and no one really has a 'Nigerian interest'. We cannot continue with this "British invented" hopeless faliure of a nation. Biafra represents hope, a new dawn, return of sovereignty and autonomy and freedom. It represents the right of choice and the opportunity to make a fresh start and to bring Governance closer to home. We cannot give up the the opportunity to administer our selves just because the way will be frought with hardship, danger and uncertainty. The average Igbo man goes through all of that in strange lands all over the world every day. Biafra, must come and the 'disaster' created by Lugard 100 years ago called Nigeria must come to an inglorious end. |

sweetgala: okijajuju welcome to my world, I have been tuning in on RBL out of curiosity, and been shouting about it here on NL for some short time now.
This Radio Biafra thing from all the information I can gather is way more serious than is being addressed and the seed of hate has already been planted and germinating in millions of hearts worldwide. It has a Rwanda style development, where the hate and suspicion is what leads to a sudden outbreak once a certain incident occurs, God forbid something happens to Kanu, or an Igbo person attacks Buhari or Osinbajo and we would have war full scale.
They had a Biafra day on May 30 as usual and Kanu had been given the authority to lead so his desire to be like Ojukwu is coming to a reality ; you should check out his video from years ago abusing some Hausa men under a bridge its on Google,
Kanu is a fraud, that has been well revealed but many Igbo people are so blinded they don't see it. I'm afraid there might be no turning back a war is inevitable You peole that are against Biafra make me laugh. You people think the Biafran struggle is about Kanu? No it is not about Kanu same as it was not about Ojukwu. It is about the desire of a group of people to be free from Nigeria. Why is it hard for people to understand that it is not by force to be a Nigerian? Unfortunately, the only language the Nigerian Government understands is violence. A war of freedom is coming and it doesn't matter if Kanu is arrested or killed, that war will still come unless a referendum is given to the SSE/SS PEOPLE to allow those who want to secede to do so and allow those who want stay with Nigeria to carry on. Referendum or War! We cannot carry on with this "white mans invention" called Nigeria and expect everything to be ok. |

obailala: In the late sixties, Igbos were attacked and slaughtered on the streets all over Nigeria as if they weren't humans. Surviving Igbos in large masses fled back the the south east for safety and sequel to that, the independence of Biafra was announced. There was a pogrom against the Igbos in the late sixties and in view of that, the declaration of Biafran independence was absolutely necessary then. Igbos willingly fought for their survival in the late sixties and there was absolute unity because the cause was justified.
What I do not understand however is the motive or the driving factor behind this present clamour for Biafra 45 years after. Is it just because an Ijaw candidate supported by Igbos lost a presidential election, or is it because Igbos have been prevented from carrying out their businesses peacefully in other regions?
I would have preferred a clamour for true federalism instead of this senseless xenophobic incantations by the young man in London. There are more Igbos living outside Igbo land than within the south-east, if there are any hostilities between Igbos and non-Igbos in the Nigeria of today, Igbos would definitely be the losers. We have more investments outside Igbo land than we even had prior to the civil war. Yet Nnamdi Kanu calls for Igbos to attack non-Igbos in the east and some individuals genuinely think this man is a smart man?
Anyway, I would be interested in seeing how Mr Kanu can convince oga Chike or Chukwuemeka or Livinus in Alaba market Lagos to close their shops, relocate to the south east, pick up arms and start fighting Nigerian military. The northerner will never agree to true federalism or regionalism. The Biafran war was fought because of this very reason. Gowon and Ojukwu signed an agreement in Aburi Ghana where both agreed that Nigeria must be run as a confederation. Gowon returned to Nigeria and realised that what he had just signed was not in tandem with norths overwhelming ambition to control Nigeria. That's why he abandoned the Aburi agreement and created States which forced Ojukwu to declare Biafra. The North will never allow regionalism to ever come back. If a motion for regionalism is moved at the National Assembly tomorrow, you can bet the northerners will gang up and vote it down with their numerical strenght. Biafra was not just about the Igbos that were massacred all over Nigeria, it was also about the people of Eastern Nigeria to decide for themselves if the are Nigerians or not. An 'honour' nobody ever asked them if they wanted. It is the integral right of the Igbo man and any minority in the SS to pull out of Nigeria if they so wish and nobody can take that away from them. As for Igbos and their investment outside Igboland. I have read with constant amusement the way Yorubas say "leave Lagos and your investments and return to the east if you are serious about Biafra". In event of Biafra emerging, I believe that many Igbos will sell up and head home to build their nation. Lagos is just one of the many commercial hubs in the world. It is not the be all and end all of anything. The world is a much bigger place than Lagos. God knows what Lagos will become after Igbos leave it en mass. We shall make Biafra more attractive to the world than Lagos will ever be and I believe in the ingenuity of my people. Biafra shall emerge as a triumphant nation and we shall take much delight in proving our detractors wrong that we need Nigeria to survive All Hail Biafra!!!!!! |

Okijajuju1: I was on a drive back from Aba yesterday with my Mum when the conversation we were having led to the mention of this Radio Biafra which is currently airing on FM 102.1 in most South South and South Eastern states. Last time I heard of this Radio Biafra, it was an Internet radio station that didn't have that much of a following to warrant any real concerns, however I was shocked to find out that they were now a terrestrial radio station with a Frequency Modular bandwidth. Anyways, I tuned in out of curiosity to find out what they were all about and that was when the hair on the back of my neck stood. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
For the entire period I was tuned into the station, it was back to back tirades against the current Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, raw undiluted anti-Semitic messages targeted mostly at the Yorubas, calls for the destruction of all Deeperlife Church posters, billboards and the burning and destruction of all Deeperlife churches in Aba and all Igbo Land, the stopping of any Deeperlife crusade from holding in Aba, calls for the Igbos to arm themselves pending when he (Nnamdi Kanu who was being referred to as director) would give the clarion call for the war to commence, calls for Igbos and the supporters of the Biafran cause to join their local chapter and contribute money to him (Nnamdi) to purchase arms to prosecute a war against the Government of Nigeria. The Nnamdi character freely spewed hate for Yorubas and Hausas, referred to Nigeria as a Zoo that they would destroy, e.t.c
At first, I just felt that this was a case of a Lunatic who seems to have found his way into a radio station, but my fears didn't rise until I heard the calls coming into the station from his growing followers. One of such callers actually said Hello Director, If Kumuyi steps into Aba, I WILL KILL HIM". Another caller said he was a technician of sorts and was willing to offer his services to help build a bomb to destroy Nigeria and the Nnamdi character took his number and promised to get in touch with him. The calls kept coming in and it was just caller after caller pledging support for the cause of this deranged man. It didn't matter that the Nnamdi Character sounded rude, arrogant and full of himself and obviously had a thirst for power, it didn't matter that he was insulting and disrespecting most of the callers who dialed in, more people kept calling.
Now my reason for starting this thread is to use this medium to bring the attention of the Government to the birth of a New Terrorist group in the South East.. I couldn't help but remember that this was exactly how the Boko Haram menace started, First it was just an Islamic preacher who was also doing Charity works and feeding his followers, then it grew into a militia that has cause the death of over 15,000 Nigerians and counting. Please those with the right connect should inform our security agencies. Whilst listening, most of the callers were reading out their phone numbers over the air and I was wondering if someone is noting down these numbers and placing taps on them and placing the owners on the terrorist watch list.
I would be honest and say that this Biafra Radio broadcast really troubled me. One of our workers who is a listener and was a follower only changed his views after I managed to explain to him the implications of what this Nnamdi Character was soliciting. The Nnamdi fellow is not hard to catch, below is a picture of him I pulled off of the Internet. And it seems he freely enters and leaves Nigeria as he pleases.
https://biafranchronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Nnamdi-anu.jpg
I really hope someone in a position of authority hears this message and acts on it fast before things get to the point where we now have to start doing damage control at which point many innocent lives would have been lost. Let's use the Lessons learnt from the Boko Haram case and the arrest and murder of Mohammed Yussuf to find a way of finding, arresting and shutting down this Terrorist Group. Today we may think it's just a radio broadcast, but if half the callers I heard were not just blowing hot. Air, then we must take this threat to National peace seriously.
A stitch in time Saves nine.
Cc:Seun, Mukina2
Okija-Juju The Gods are Wise.... All of this made me laugh. Do you think Nnamdi Kanu is hiding? He was in the east broadcasting for about 7 months and only recently returned to London and will be back shortly. He regularly tells listeners where he is and even where his fathers compound is in Umuahia. Kanu is simply echoing what the vast majority of Igbos including me feel about this "British invented cattle-Market" called Nigeria. Arresting or killing Kanu will not extinguish the flames of Biafra, if anything, it will only increase it. I remember that when Boko Haram started, the Government captured its then leader called Yusuf and many members and summarily executed them ( the video is on YouTube) thiniking that would the end of it. Shekau took over and proved he was even worse than Yusuf and Nigeria has never rested. You can kill a man but you cannot kill an ideology. My people, the Igbos want their own country, their autonomy, their sovereignty that was stolen by the British who forced them into Nigeria against their will. If we are not granted our freedom, we will fight to get it. There are more than 20 ethnic groups in the SS. We Igbos want those who are comfortable with the notion of Biafra to secede with us while those who don't buy the idea should remain with Ngeria. Nigeria is livng on borrowed time and it is bound to disintegrate sooner or later. A revolution is coming and it will either lead to peaceful dissolution of Nigeria or a bloody one. |

tonychristopher: This is not an ethnic attack on any tribe but a moment of reflection ...this write up is coming not as a result of any phobia but due to uneasy tension in Nigeria and this is unacceptable...this was the state Europe was centuries ago so we should out grow this
I notice that anambra state used the term home for all and they are okay to do that and they will invite strangers to come do business there just like Dubai but when it comes to the issue of Lagos which was Nigerian former capital built by the collective sweat of all Nigerian especially niger delta oil..some group of people are claiming they built Lagos . it baffles any logically thinking mind how they built it..its like gwari will come out tomorrow to say that they built Abuja ...yet we know that oil money from south south built Abuja not the back burden carrying tribes (with respect to their culture ) built Abuja
Coming to frosty and nasty tension or relations between igbo and Yoruba in Lagos ...I experienced where a Yoruba man was telling an ibibio man to go back to his village I personally asked the man where are you from he said his father is from ekiti... Then I told him he is not a lagosian also. I think xenophobia is high and mind you igbo still have 101% right in Lagos so is the Hausa ijaw or edo man...
If you look at this
The people in Lagos had a head start They were the first that interacted with the European first
They had access to education first by the virtue of their location
They had the space when igbo were fighting war of Biafra for three solid years So they should have capitalized on this
They had most of the firm during the infamous indigenization decree of 70s which favoured the west becuase igbos then were having post traumatic stress from war and broke with just £20 left for them
They also had the space when they scared and chased the Ghana people away ...
They have produced president two times
But igbo never had these opportunities yet they are making a mark with their niger delta counterparts . what I am finding it difficult to understand why the hate
Personally I think this is inability to compete ...in today's global economy nobody runs a welfarist system and igbo are competitive in nature and I think other tribes such as Yoruba should be competitive . ijebu to my own understanding is . it will be nice if we can live together as a country and not treating one another as a virus
As you read this ask yourself why the hate, ask yourself why the lagoon talk ask yourself why was Dr. Ariyo honored ask yourself why is Daniel Kanu venting anger and firing all cylinders
To me it boils down to one thing..Blackman propensity to violence and pull him down syndrome
Let us not be jealous of people success let us understudy and compete with them. Yoruba should learn how to accept others the way they are and not expecting others to act like them and igbo with their south south cousins should learn how to let go and not offend the sensibilities of others with their culture ..Yoruba are cultural and averse to changes so they should learn that also and don't use civil war to judge others .I have seen good people from yoruba ijaw edo etc so its pointless to hate
We should compete and think our of box instead of making ourselves a laughing stock globally
That was what china did to USA
Have a blessed day The only answer is is the dissolution of the whitemans contraption called Nigeria so that we can all go home and administer our affairs how we know best. A Yoruba man can't be shouting "one Nigeria" and then turn around and tell an Igbo man like me he is angry that I called Lagos 'no mans land' . If you truly believe in one Nigeria, then all of Nigeria should be "no mans land". The hypocrisy of the whole thing is laughable. Why do I have be with a Northerner who thinks that it his celestial right to rule forever even though it has been Southerners who have been carrying their parasitic a$$e$ since independence? We have had 55 years of failed nationhood, one civil war and millions dead. What does it take for civilised people to know that things are not working? Octaves: If Nigeria wants to be together, some things must come into place. Particularly resource control and devolution of power. If the one Nigeria you are talking about is the type we have now, then u are just making mere speech and are far removed from reality. Since 1960, Nigeria has been divided and if the root causes of the division are not tackled rather than giving fancy cliched peace speeches. Nigeria will continue to fall apart until the center cannot hold. Biafra is a good idea for the easterners if Nigeria is not fixed. Last time i checked, war has not been part of the equation of actualising biafra. Most activists are seeking peaceful solutions. You opening this thread about a problem that doesnt exist or is insignificant makes me doubt your identity as an igbo man. U are either a Yoruba or yorobanized igbo. Either way, u dont know what you are saying. Britain, the creators of Nigeria is made up of four constituent parts. England,Wales,Scotland and Northern Ireland. Everybody was living witness last year when Scottish agitation for independence culminated in Scotland being granted a referendum. Nobody was shouting "we must be British!". Instead, what happend was that there was a national debate about the pros and cons of Scotland going it alone. That's how civilised people do things. But in backward Nigeria, somebody will be in Akure and be shouting at someone Enugu that "we must remain one Nigeria!" and I wonder if some people have common sense. The very people who created Nigeria have already showed us how solve inter-ethnic disputes but some people are chanting war mantra. Lugard killed people to create Nigeria. Gowon killed people to keep Nigeria one. Yet, the same Nigeria has not moved foward from 1960 to date. Millions have died to keep an unworkable, failed state going. Why? Because Lord Lugard told them so. Those who indulge in deciet will be put to shame. I still want to believe that a referendum which will usher a peaceful dissolution Of Nigeria will be conducted |

Mobsync: Kur Muhammed was hardly mentioned in many of my sources save one which said he alongside several others were overlooked over Gowon.Nevertheless, all the sources I consulted agreed that the coup was launched by disgruntled Hausa soldiers and Gowon was not involved. But then, Gowon was not chosen because of his seniority (although it could be a factor). The major reason he was chosen because the northern soldiers involved did not want it to look like a northern coup. They initially wanted to separate the north from the soth but considering the fact that, they would have a hard time surviving, they had a rethink. Your right about one thing. Many people do not know that the first people who wanted to break up Nigeria were actually the Northerner. Their coup or should I say, counter-coup was code named "operation Araba" which means 'to separate' was intended to pull northern Nigeria out Nigeria as a separate country. It was only after they coup that they were reminded that economic wealth of Nigeria lay in the South and that if they cut themselves off from the sea-port and Oil money, they would suffer greatly. That's why they immidiately switched back to 'one Nigeria'. I laugh at die hard proponents of 'one Nigeria' or people who castigate the Igbos for seeking Biafra and those who insult the memory of Ojukwu for trying to break up Nigeria. What many them don't seem to realise is that, had the Oil been in the North, the Hausa man would have been the first to declare "Arewa Republic" long before Ojukwu declared Biafra. The unity and existence of Nigeria is all based on Oil. |

bueze046: Yea really the guy is doing great for ndi Anambra cause I have lived there for years but above all governors Gov Obiano is the one who knows what development is all about, but people misunderstood him though over okada ban. Anambra has been lucky to have had two good Governors in Peter Obi and Willie Obiano. I can't even begin to wonder what would have happend to us if fate had landed us with someone like T Orji of Abia. That man was arguably the worst Governor in the history of Africa! His 8 year rule was just an 8 year bank Robbery. |

I'm an Anambra man and I can state categorically that Anambra is the state with the highest number of Billionaires in Nigeria. |

Mobsync: Gowon actually got there by chance. He wasn't the best candidate for the post. Shuwa, Murtala Muhammed and several others were all Lieutenant-Colonels alongside Gowon. Infact, Kur Muhammed was a full Colonel. Gowon was chosen because the coup plotters did not want the coup to be seen as an Hausa coup since the first coup was already seen as an Igbo coup. Gowon was a Christian and wasn't a core northerner. Two factors that led to him been chosen as the preferred candidate.
Secondly, Onwuatuegwu was in Lagos while the coup was on. He commanded a group of Igbo soldiers whose mission was to kill any top military commander they could lay their hands on. There are reports however that he fled to the north after the coup failed and possibly held control of the north along with Kaduna Nzeogwu for some weeks. Some of your facts are wrong. Colonel Kur Mohammed was killed in the first coup along with Authur Unegbe and Brigadier Maimalari. Although Shuwa and Murtala were Lt Colonels, they were far Junior to Gowon. Another thing is that you said Onwuatuegwu was in Lagos however,if you search on Youtube, you will see Nzeogwu answering questions from reporters on the morning of the coup in Kaduna. Onwuatuegwu can be seen standing next to Nzeogwu in that video clip. Gowon, was the highest ranking officer from the north and also chief of Army staff. |

There are some inconsistencies here. Onwuatuegwu (this translates in English as "he who does not fear death") was with Nzeogwu in Kaduna during the coup, he was never part of the southern operations. Also, Lt colonel Yakubu Gowon was chosen as Military head of state because he was the highest ranking "northerner" at the time. Ogundipe, Nwawo , Effiong, Njoku, Imo, Ejoor, Adebayor and Ojukwu were all senior to Gowon but they were all by-passed because they were from the south. |

We Igbos demand our own independent sovereign homeland!! |

goldman777: Biafra was coined from the ambition of one man,s selfishness as a military man to dominate the other military man he felt he was more superior to rule, and decided his only opportunity was succession which never came to fruition. This same man after defeat in warfare as military man lived and died in nigeria.accepting to live in the same country he wanted to break for his own personal ambition.it surprises me some ignorant children who read this history story book wake and say they want to start rearing dinosaurs that have gone extinct.i guess have been watching to much jurassic park movies or probably they just want to play GOD in their imagination. So Biafra had nothing to do with the over 40,000 easterners that were butchered in cold blood all across Nigeria mainly in the north? Everything Had to do with Ojukwus ambition abi? |

Genius100: The Igbos in neighbouring states should be free to relocate to Biafra if they want. The point here is that there are non-Igbo majorities in those states and Biafra better not think those majority non-Igbo states are part of it... Biafra will not be a country of " citizen by force" the way Nigeria is. Nobody will be dragged into Biafra against their will the way Igbos were dragged into Nigeria. There is no way you can tell an Asaba man to move from the land of his ancestors just because a "military gangster" called Babangida created Delta state less than 25 years ago. That would be beyond ludicrous. As for the non-Igbo majorities in the SS, they are welcome to stay in Nigeria if that is their wish but I hasten to add that those of them who wish to go with Igbos as Biafra must be allowed to do so. |
