HAHA Just like he launched Facebook in Naija. Launching energy saving bulbs is our Presidents job abi ![]() |
@ Bayoooo You dey try ooo. You dey try make sense with all these people for Nairaland wey dem brain don dey low on disk space. Nairaland has some of the dumbest but seemingly educated people that i have ever experienced. |
Nigerians excel abroad because our best hands can see the worthlessness on ground. Therefore, they fled!!! And ironically, "those that have" embrace and groom the talent that was tossed into the garbage by "those that have not" ![]() |
Kimmo: [/colorAnd with many posts by docs working in Health institutions in Nigeria and the remuneration of docs in Nigeria and the doctor to patient ratio which is already appalling, You still wonder why the situation is the way it is ![]() Please, i think when we try to problem solve we should always look beyond the surface, or else you will spend forever chasing your tail. Well, I guess our leaders generally do not think, that is why our situation hasn't changed since forever. And i can also see that we the followers do not also see past our noses. I have respected and supported a lot of Fashola decisions and policies, but this one here is headed towards definite failure. 2 steps forward and ten steps back!!! |
The biggest problem with Naija is Nigerians. Typical black man mentality of "if my own never good, your own no go ever good too" That na the problem with our politics too. Yoruba man, Ibo man, Edo, Hausa etc. We no fit ever stand together to see the common enemy. Na to dey pull your fellow common man down. Sorry to say this, but Nigeria is hopeless because of the kind of things i read on Nairaland. |
No be noble profession of medicine? These people really take their oath seriously... Where the masses expect dem to dey suffer and also to dey perform their jobs like Yankee docs... |
naturalwaves: Lol.I wonder o.U beta tell him cos I wonder wat will happen if every govt worker goes on strike cos they do not earn same salary as their foreign counterparts.Your point here is null because you refuse to even look at his point of view. And my answer to you is that the docs were not requesting to be paid the same as UK docs. They were asking for the implementation of CONMESS, which had been previously agreed on. Come on guys. . . Is that too much to ask? You are here talking about docs leaving their duty post. You really think it is about greed? If you employ houseboy and you work him like a horse and you no feed or pay am appropriately, he will eventually either rob you or kill you!!! |
Abeg what's with these selfish comments laced with envy? Being a doctor is a profession, just like every other. And if the dividends do not match up with the amount of work that went into creating a doctor or the work is just not worth it, they have the right to decide not to work for that employer or to even cease to be a doc. Or retire to their own private business. And if truthfully, it is very easy for the Government to roll out medical professionals that are satisfied with the current work environment, then they should carry go. Enough of this whining. In fact all these people shouting "docs are greedy" would do worse if they were in the same situation. And also enough of these stu.pid news stories that could have been written by my 4 year old kid. |
Mr kdular U did not address d problems. U only expressed your grudge for the medical profession just like a million other posts before you. The problem has nothing to do with which profession is more valuable. The problem is why should medical doctors be allowed to go on strike. . . which leads on to other facts . . . medical doctors are not well paid despite an unbelievable workload and productivity. Which leads to the question of conmess. A lot of statements being made here are actually not objective, not facing thesource of the problem and borne out of what is beginning to look like envy. I feel the pain of the masses, but the real question here is why should the government take d health of the nation for granted and allow this to happen. Healthcare is not really an option. When u are sick, you need help or you can die. How much more are the docs requesting that is not worthy of a human life. And this is not a new agreement. Why did negotiations stop, and what kind of bullsh.it advisor told BRF that firing d docs was a means to a solution. Fellow Nigerians, if you don't know who to ask for your rights from, then I guess we deserve the mess we are currently in. The government, and not doctors are the ones to provide healthcare to d people. If we don't ask the right people, we will continue to rot in thisindiscipline. If they had planned from the beginning not to follow through with a preexisting agreement, then any smart organization would have planned for an alternative. I hope the 300 docs would be able to handle the work that the fired 800found overwhelming. Lord help us. |
Doctors are needed all over the world. More in some countries than in others. Unfortunately, Naija is not one of the countries with an abundant supply. ektbear was trying to prove with economics. But failed to realize that healthcare is expensive. The stakes are too high... no margin for error. That is why it takes a while to make a competent doctor. That is why doctors are scarce commodities, that is why doctors have lots of options, that is why healthcare is expensive. But the government of Lagos thinks the conmess is too much to be paid and they therefore think they can create docs out of thin air or maybe import docs from better paying countries and then not pay them for the hassles of the healthcare mess in Nigeria. And a significant no of nairalanders think this is the way forward. Lol. Like many others have said, any doc still practsing in naija should get out now. There are too many opportunities worldwide that do a lot better than Nigeria. If the life of Nigerians is a business deal of demand, and supply, and it is so difficult for our government and educated/respectable nairalanders to see that demand has seriously dwarfed d supply, then they don't deserve your care. If the life of Nigerians is business |
queensmith: Humanitarian? but you get paid 100s of 1000s of naira? It's charity work when it's free. Don't confuse what you do. You are sacrificing nothing and building a very good career for yourself. You are paid handsomly for your services you are getting 20 times the minimum wage and 1000 times what the average Nigerian is said to live on. Gross misconduct and disregard for services you are being paid for should never be rewarded.I think ignorance of the economics of the issue is what makes room for statements like these. The amount of money needed to train the doctors and the time will definitely cost so much more than fulfilling the current request. It takes a lot of money to train a doctor, and there can never be enough doctors. Take a cue from the US. Despite the number of med schools they have and the number of medical doctors that they graduate yearly, they still import doctors from developing countries where we need them. And they still do not have enough doctors to cater for their needs. How can we speak like this and expect the standards of healthcare in our country to improve. The situation is unfortunate. I can't pass judgement on the way the medical docs responded i.e strike. But i know that in Nigeria, the only weapin the masses have is a strike action. But I can say that the sack action and the degradation of the medical profession by a lot of Nairalanders right now is not economical. If u catch my drift. |
Doctors and good health are a necessity in every society. And despite their importance (whether we like to admit it or not) nobody is indispensible. Bottom line is we as a people give relevance to what we think should be relevant. And if our politicians are more important than our value for human life, then I rest my case. It is very easy to blame the Docs for going on strike, but we forget that this decay did not start with them. If the Nigerian government thinks the health of the country is important, we wouldn't have appalling maternal/infant mortality figures. Life expectancy wouldn't be so low. And in a society where we are already deprived of doctors, and so many have already left to work for other countries (despite receiving their education and training in Nigeria)we should value what we have. For the up-coming generations, I hope you learn from these incidents before you fill your JAMB form. Personally, I believe that the effects of this action will go a very long way. I think Doctors in Nigeria deserve a lot more than BRF and a lot of Nairalanders are giving right now. |
amosy007: All this stupiid statistics that always put nigeria on every bad list really need to be checked.. Sometimes i wonder who, where and when was d survey carried to put nigeria top of everybad list.. Imagine i read on vanguard dat (1millions nigerians are blind!) not only that. There was even a time they said "nigeria is number one country that have sex(fvcks) alot in the whole world.. How can that be possible when we have america with the biggest p0rn network in the world not forgetin china and india...You echoed my thoughts exactly. How was this study conducted Naija wey a lot of things go unreported, so how were they able to account for all the road accidents and the fatalities resulting from it![]() Did they correct for population size? Who did the study ![]() The news piece didn't say nothing at all. . . Them just dump report wey anybody fit just siddon for him bedroom cook-up. Shiorrr Unfortunately, Nairaland go swallow this thing whole and argument go start. |
People will bring up whatever they can ( whether they know about it or not) just to sound right on Nairaland. Those saying Docs have forgotten the hippocratic oath, please show what portion of the oath states that docs should not request for adequate compensation or that they should continue to suffer and smile. If docs in Naija were to follow some lines in the oath, in the absence of equipments and a proper enabling condition which includes enumeration should not work so that they would DO NO HARM. HIPPOCRATIC OATH: MODERN VERSION |
I heard this so many times. . . "Medicine is a noble profession " WHAT DOES THAT SH!T EVEN MEAN. If u supporting d FG on this on grounds of "the masses are being made to suffer " The FG just cursed d masses by this action. But I can't blame both parties involved. When u in d jungle, u act and think like gorillas and monkeys. What type of government does not care about d health of its people? And dat also involves d welfare of d people who are actually doing d job, not d politicians that sit for 5 hours per week and come up with stupid policies. I swear . . . Naija is dead meat. And I say this because the people to ask for a change are all blind and selfish. |
Nigeria is a mess. Thanks to our political leaders who some people seem to be applauding. The doctors deserve every penny that they are demanding, but also they should be careful coz d innocent masses will be the ones to suffer. But in d Nigerian jungle where everything is upside down, I don't see any other way they could have made their demands to be met. It is just ridiculous... a country that lacks doctors with some of the worst healthcare systems in d world is sacking its docs. |
all4naija: The area on the last image is very filthy. I hope they beautify the place after they finished with the construction work. Lagos needs beautification! It is too dirty for my liking! If dem beautify am finish now, bad belle go dey vex say Fashola plant flowers. I tire!!! Alusi Okija: Kini Big Deal. . . .Don't get me wrong. . . I'm happy for Enugu state governor (though i hope he is doing more than just moulding blocks) You shouldn't make ridiculous statements like this just to belittle another's achievement. it just shows how small your mind is. |
hercules07: The question was should they be paid teaching allowances and not if they should be paid at all, our doctors want to earn what US doctors earn without the commitment that those ones give, please tune in to radios to hear tales of woes from patients due to the ineptitude of the doctors and their supporting staff.Well. In terms of teaching allowance, I agree that they shouldn't be paid teaching allowance. but there is so much in terms of "allowances" that they should be paid, but they do not receive. And your comment about them earning as much as US doctors aches my belly. You better know that US doctors seem to be as committed as they are because they US government supports the health of the Nation and their doctors are generally taken care of. To whom much is given, much is expected. . . . That is the way we say it, and not the other way round. . . To whom much is expected, much is given!!! |
Well. . . I guess you do not understand what a medical house officer is. They are not students. They are qualified medical doctors who are bottom of the rank. Therefore, they spend most of their time in the hospitals - thus the name house officers. Should entry level workers in the bank or in any profession for that matter not be paid because they are just gathering experience for the first time ![]() House officers contribute a great deal to filling up the gaps in health care in Nigeria. And until we start to value human life, we will never, ever realize that our nation is upside down - Politicians are chopping Nigeria into bits and people like you think that it is right for health care workers who care for the health of other sick people should suffer!!! |
Nigerians are the biggest thing obstructing the progress of Nigeria. I bet you the frustration caused by locking down the roads was felt by millions of Nigerians and BRF was probably unaffected. But the prejudice of our Nigerian brothers will never see that. . . Talk about cutting your own nose to spite your face. This idiocy is astounding!!! |
@Topic It is totally understandable. With all the war stories coming out of Nigeria, the only thing we have to offer, in order to bring in trained professionals from other parts of the world are these bogus pay packages. Nobody wants to be 419d, Boko haramd or kidnapped or even killed by Militants. It is up to us to clean up our mess. But unfortunately, we never ready!!! |
Thread title should be changed to "a million different but equally effective way to clear dark spots from face." |
beespak7:All you guys are arguing where no argument exists. The thread title is misleading. The house of reps committee stated that 77% os doctors in a specific association of black doctors in the US are Nigerians. They must have gotten that info from the association meeting attendance or something like that. That figure does not necessarily translate to the percentage of docs in the US. So, Nairalanders misinterpreted the statement and have now created a non - existent argument. I think the real issue is why can't we (Nigeria) provide opportunities for our professionals that we have trained. |
femmy2010: tpia@:TO clearly delineate duties and responsibilities, the US is very good about identifying Physicians as Doctors. Vet docs are called vets Pharm D are called pharmacists And usually PHD holders are called teachers/professors etc depending on where they work They have grown beyond the ego thing that is still bugging us in Naija where everybody wants to be called a doctor. |
This picture is kinda disturbing. . . For the Igbos in the house, what does it mean ![]() www.nairaland.com/attachments/654726_431090_10150610945128409_127503268408_9328439_567919255_n_jpgb78d05b343f484bbf050aca05d114068 |
The saddest thing is that this diagnosis is being made after the child is already this old!!! Naija needs a lot of help. |
As always, one of the big problems with Nigerians is that we all feel we are experts in situations that we know nothing about. And this is for people who are so quick to judge without actually listening to what is being said. From what was written @bolded is where she got her statistics. it is debatable whether this is a representation of the total no of black docs in the US. However, the bottom line is that there are too many Nigerian trained docs working outside the country considering what the healthcare system in Nigeria is like. The solution - like so many other people have mentioned, starts with reduction of corrupt practices. Otherwise, nothing will work. Nigeria is not necessarily the most corrupt country in the world, but we are one of the few where corruption is almost a normal way of life!!! The House of Representatives Committee on the Diaspora said on Tuesday that about 77 per cent of members of associations of black doctors practising in the United States of America were Nigerians. |
Dede1:In the same vein, I do not understand why some Igbo posters come on Nairaland to say that Yorubas betrayed them and are therefore backstabbers. If the war was between Biafra and Nigeria (which includes the Yoruba region which they invaded) WHY should they expect that the Yorubas/Nigerians would have been their allies and therefore support their war against Nigeria. You don't betray someone you are at war with. You crush and defeat them!!! |
Not saying Tinubu is wrong, neither am i saying he is right, but I don't think people should take comments from politicians who are trying to score cheap points seriously. In Politics, the goal is the office (and the money in the case of Naija), and to get there, politicians will kiss any @ss that needs kissing. |
I read the post expecting to find some bogus claim about the production of Malaria vaccine (or cure for AIDS) as is usually the case, but was pleasantly surprised. Great Job to the researchers. Hopefully, we'll step up from there and start to produce the Antimalaria medicine at much more reduced costs for the rest of Africa. |
Great thinking . . . This should be have been carried out already by security operatives if they had the brains. |
