Nairaland GeneralStop Tribalism On Nairaland by ziga(op): 3:50pm On Jun 13, 2009
Nairaland to me is a reflection of the problem we have in Nigeria, a lot of people can't seem to accept that igbo+yoruba+hausa = Nigeria.

We make insulting statements directed at other tribes and we take nice and meaninful discussions off course.

I believe it should be the duty of the moderators to identify such posts and delete them with a warning to any offending poster.
PoliticsRe: Can The North Survive Without The Niger-delta Oil? by ziga: 1:27pm On Jun 03, 2009
It might initially be hard like a crack addict, but it definately CAN. And like somebody pointed out, the north is not the problem, its all of our leaders. If you go up north, you will see poverty, lack of education, lack of good health. They are suffering up there.

Nigerians, we love to worship this oil. And if we all continue to think like this, we wont get very far. we wont see anything truly the way it is.

Embarrassing to say the least.
If you really watch this video, you will notice that you cant even hear the crowd. Whoever put this up on youtube most likely overdubbed on top of the real audio. And again, the video was out of sync with the audio.

I've seen a couple of live perfomances from Nigerian artistes and they have been superb. A lot of them DO NOT lip sync. They might not have a band and all that. But they are doing really good. The Nigerian music industry pulled themselves all the way up there, which is very impressive.
PoliticsRe: How Much Do You Know About The Niger Delta Crisis? by ziga: 1:04pm On May 28, 2009
@largerwhenindoubt,

If we keep looking back, we will never move forward. You can never justify a wrong,  and by that i mean the enviromental degradation as well as the militant activities.

Thanks for supporting with evidence, As much as some people might not want to believe, Nigeria can do things to meet international standards (if we want to)
PoliticsRe: Must See: Nuhu Ribadu In Us Session by ziga: 3:57pm On May 26, 2009
I hope his perfomance @ the interview was coz he lost his composure.Coz to me, it seemed he was trying not to answer the questions he was asked, Talking like dem damn politicians.

The truth of de matter is corruption in the Nigerian government is so deep. I dont think anybody that has been in the government for the past 20yrs will be clean. That was the problem with ribadu. Even though he gave a good fight, am not sure of what skeletons he will have in his own closet. And i'm sure that's what de bad pple will use to haunt him.

RomanceRe: Men Would You Easily Forgive Ur Woman If She Rains Insults On You? by ziga: 1:20pm On Apr 26, 2009
@tbaba83.
Your words "bleeped up culture" caught my attention. That is rude, and just like many people on this thread have been trying to say, we all need to watch our words. Once spoken, they can never truly be taken back .

@post
Its a good thing to be able to forgive, and i'm sure most people who have spoken have had to forgive friends and family despite all they have said.
But when you have to forgive for the same offense over and over again, the message it sends is that the offender is taking you for granted, doesnt respect you and doesnt deserve your respect or love.

Issues like this always bring lots of sentiments, so a lot of people will argue without being truly objective.

@ChinenyeN, You've made a lot of sense.
PoliticsRe: Lagosians: Is Fashola The Expected Messiah? by ziga: 12:37pm On Nov 23, 2008
Gov Fashola's deeds may be what he has been employed by us to do, but i want you to imagine this, if you ever lived in Nigeria or in a position where you really lacked something essential.

Why is it that people scream "up NEPA" whenever power returns. or why are you so grateful to a doctor that helps deliver your baby despite the fact that they were just doing their jobs.

The reason for the praise is people live in Nigeria lacking a lot of things and the joy of having those things makes them really pleased with the person who has provided them with it.

In my opinion, BRF is doing good and can do better. Also i understand the reason why he's being praised.
CareerRe: Doctors And Their Pay Packets by ziga: 7:53pm On Aug 21, 2008
I graduated in 2005, and i didnt state that Doctors are responsible for providing infrastructre for hospitals.

Doctors don't have to be dependent on salaries. The problem is doctors who put money before the welfare of their patients always end up being unethical. That is not the way its meant to be and that is not situation in other countries.

If the true value of health care as a "business" was applied, and the average man was made to pay for it, how many will be able to afford it. The health of the people is the responsibility of the government, and the true practise of medicine does not leave room for the doctor to be money oriented. So, who takes care of the doctor's welfare.

Think about it, if you get advise from a lawyer, you have to pay for it. But how many of you have ever paid a medical doctor for some health advice he gave in passing.
A house officer in nigeria goes home with at least 120K after tax per month.
Very few HOs (just a handful) make that much. I had to wait for almost a year after grad before i got an internship position, and i was paid 45k/month. I count myself among the lucky ones, coz some docs went the whole year without any pay (supernumerary doctors)

There is a big problem in the health sector and this should be top priority for any government.
CareerRe: Doctors And Their Pay Packets by ziga: 11:41pm On Aug 18, 2008
The situation of things right now is that most doctors who were trained by Nigeria for very little money (comparing the cost of education in Nigeria to that in other countries) are being employed in many other countries and are being used for various positions to improve themselves.

It is sad and frustrating not being appreciated and rewarded for your efforts in your own home. For those who don't agree, i pray that you never have to be in those shoes.

Also, i would add that good health is one of the most important things to a human being. You won't understand if you've never been "really" sick.
CareerRe: Doctors And Their Pay Packets by ziga: 1:23pm On Aug 17, 2008
My first job post internship/ post nysc was for 30k a month about 1 yr ago. I was doing the night shift. 8pm to 8am weekdays and 48 hr every other weekend. So i get 2 work free weekends per month. Thats about 84hrs per week. I initially thought i would be able to combine the job with another one during the day for more pay, but after many busy, sleepless nights, I knew it wasn't possible. Of course, i negotiated for an increase in pay and i eventually got 35k/month.

I worked in other hospitals too and i was getting 50k/month for similar working hours. Very few people get into Government hospitals where you can get around 80-100k/month.

The problem is with the whole health sector. Nigeria needs more well equipped hospitals, better patient care etc. And until all that is taken care of nothing will improve.

Even if doctors are paid better, it will only be the few of them working in FEDERAL Government hospitals.
PoliticsRe: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by ziga: 2:47pm On Aug 06, 2008
God bless ribadu

If his promotion was not due, either by duration of service or by outstanding perfomance, i think things should be made right. And this move should be extended into every part of the country.
The fight against corruption should be on all fronts. Ribadu really stands for anti-corruption, and i know he won't be bitter if it is true that his promotion was not deserved.

Even though Ribadu did a lot of good, nobody can say he was a saint. Almost every Nigerian living in Nigeria is corrupted by the system. OBJ, his boss should have been prosecuted along with all the other governors and corrupt officers.

He who gives the bribe is as guilty as the person receiving it.
sadly, this is another waste.

They always failed to appreciate that things are based on 'system and processes'; they never see the 'Big Pictures'.

1. where are the roads that fire-trucks will pass?

2. where are the water-pumps about 2meters apart on each street?

3. where are the detailed layout of all pipelines, gas line, electric acbles?

4. what salary package of fire-men?
Its impossible to fix all these things you outlined all at once. The upgrading of the fire service is a positive step and lets all pray that in time, the rest will follow.

PoliticsRe: Have Your Say: Is Nigeria Worth Living In? by ziga: 2:18pm On Jul 30, 2008
In fact I don tire, this country na wa oooooooooooo. This country is not worth staying neither is worth wasting our precious human abilities and resources. Or is it?
Considering the poster's above statement, this whole thread would qualify as a waste of internet resources as well as time. Wouldn't it.

If Nigeria is not worth anything at all like we always try to make it seem, why is it that it is always the subject of so many discussions. Lets face facts, Nigeria is not the best of countries and only very few people will get the opportunity to leave for better positions in better countries. In fact, out of the desperation of leaving Naija, some people end up in situations i will never wish for my enemies.

In my opinion, most people who bad mouth are secretly hoping and praying for things to get better so that they can return home, or else why are you so bothered.

If that is the situation, why don't you convert the energy you use in complaining into some other thing that might move Nigeria forward.

Thanks brothers and sisters for taking time to put those pictures up.
PoliticsRe: Corruption In Nigeria - What Are Your Suggested Solutions by ziga: 4:58pm On Jul 28, 2008
Nigerians are very malleable people. We can all testify that we adjust very quickly to change, whether good or bad.

In my opinion, if the law enforcement and Law in Nigeria are put before any other matter, Nigeria will be transformed in no time.

All offenders without exception (including small and big thief) are caught and appropriately punished. Nigeria is the way it is now, because everybody believes he can do whatever he wishes and still get away with it.

That way, everybody from the politicians to the simple man on the street is held accountable for his actions.

Siasia and Okocha no be mates ooo. Like someone said earlier, Siasia was almost retiring when Okocha was making waves.

Anyway, i think discipline and teamwork is what makes a champion. Its better not to have any "star" that would bring division or difficulties to a team. I'm in full support of Coach's decision.

"Spare the rod and spoil the child"

True, some teachers are hateful and beat for no good reason. But if it is done with love and correction as the main objective, it can only drive you to work harder and be a better person.
