This further proves your first degree illiteracy.
Abiola never held a political post. . . . . .He was a philanthropist. . . .
Comparing Awolowo to Abiola tells me your IQ is lower than your shoe-size.

I am sure if Awolowo were alive he will tell you to reason with your head, present your arguement professionally and then make your point.

Name callings will not help.

I loved the greatest political philosopher in the history of Nigeria that I immortalized him in my first book in 1987.

You need to read his books on nation building to know the greatness of his genius. Ọbáfẹ́mi Awólọ́wọ̀ inspired me as a writer.

TewMuch:

You guys love to hang onto the Biafra line, now answer this question; would the entity called Nigeria exist if Zik did not go with the Northerners to create Nigeria to meet his greedy ends? Because the westerners refused him leadership he wanted to rule them by all means and settled for figure head ruler. what a shame to Igbo's. Now when that same entity Nigeria did not work, they wanted to carve out Biafra. You think Yoruba's will follow you into that nonsense? after forcing them to be in Nigeria, you now want to run when you dont have your way. Abeg stop crying over spilt milk, no one betrayed you, you betrayed yourselves. The moment you begin to ccept and acknowledge that the faster Igboland will progress. Awolowo was the greatest and a great visionary, he saw the dangers of Nigeria, and concentrated on his own regional development which many Igbo's benefitted. Zik's greed is the cause of Nigeria's failure and the failure of the so called Biafra. That is who you should be blaming. Stop throwing blame where it does not fit. If not for the fact that Yoruba's are very good with History, you guys will be trying to tell us who we are.  grin

You seem to be one of many Nigerians that missed the boat on correct and proper recorded events. The answer to your unfortunate and juvenile question is capital YES.

Please disabuse your mind on the political issues of 1959. As a matter of fact, Zik did not rush to northern region for personal ends. Rather the coalition government of NPC and NCNC was as result of Awolowo fast draw when he sent secret teams to Bello and Azikiwe for political deals.

Awolowo was the first to give up Lagos as part of west region hence Lagos as capital of Nigeria.

Awolowo and your forbearers fought in 1967 to keep Nigeria as one entity hence the cesspit.

Igbo history rewriter, Awolowo agreed to the cesspit called Nigeria after Azikiwe went to enter into an agreement with Northerners to be a figurehead because Yoruba's chased him away. A very spiteful, greedy person in my opinion. So with your own Juvenile point of view, and history of telling many lies, blame all your failured on Nnamdi.

Lagos Island not Lagos state. We have had this discussion a few times. The other municipalities such as Epe, Ikorodu, Shomolu, Agege, Ikeja were part of the western region. if you disagree, then tell us the federal presence in those parts.

Also he (Tewmuch) was refering to this.
Its from an interview granted by Ralph Uwechue.

'Again, in 1957 when the British Colonial Government, under intense pressure from Southern politicians pressing for independence, attempted to uncouple the union between the North and South forged through Lord Lugard’s Amalgamation of 1914, with the offer of independence to the three Regions individually provided any two accepted the offer, a political crisis loomed large on the national horizon. The Northern Region, led by the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) took the position that the North was not ready for that level of political and economic independence. The Western Region, led by Chief Awolowo’s Action Group (AG) promptly, declared its readiness to accept the offer. It was the Igbo-led NUNC that held the balance. It was an issue that could make or break Nigeria if the three Regions chose to go their separate ways to independence.

The NUNC leader, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe took the stand that although the Eastern Region was ready to assume the responsibilities of Regional independence, its attainment without the North would lead, in his own words, to the ‘’Baalkanization of the Nigeria Nation’’ and conceivably a break-up of the country. The Eastern Region would rather suppress it’s appetite for independence and the obvious gains it would entail until the Northern Region was ready. That was how Nigeria Independence was delayed until 1960. In short, the Igbo-led Eastern Region would rather forgo the advancement of its own political economic interests than risk the break-up of Nigeria.

Had the Eastern Region opted for Independence at that time, the territory under its control would have comprised in today’s terms the following nine States with their enormous human and natural resources: Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Rivers state. It would also probably include Southern Cameroun with the oil rich Bakassi Peninsula. If not for Zik, by 1960, the three Regions would have become separate sovereign states and there would have been no question of Biafra’s attempted secession in 1967 from a non-existing Nigeria federation and the devastating civil war fought to stop it. Similary, when Zik moved to the Federal scene as Governor-General and later titular President of Nigeria, the NUNC, under the leadership of Dr. Michael Okpara, of blessed memory, continued faithfully in his giant and indelible footsteps, the political bridge-building and nation building enterprise of the Igbo.

At independence, the Igbo-led NUNC shunned the attraction of being the senior partner in an East-West Alliance with Chief Awolowo’s Action Group (AG) and chose to team up instead as the junior partner, with Sir Ahmadu Bello’s Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) in order to consolidate the frail and insipid attachment of a wary and skeptical North to Southern Nigeria. At that time Chief Awolowo’s Yoruba dominated Action Group (AG) was viewed with considerable suspicion by the Hausa Fulani-led NPC for its ambition and role in the then Middle Belt, under Congress (UMBC). However, when the Yoruba Leader Chief Obafemi Awolowo was accused of treason and incarcerated in 1963, on charges which many Nigerians believed were trumped up to silence him politically, the Igbo leadership of NUNC switched side and came to his rescue.'

I could not believe you are bent on drawing unparallel analogy between Nigeria and the political arrangement that involves Scotland and England. The last time I check though, Scotland had football team that represented it as a country in a sport competition played amongst nations. Scotland had qualified as one the countries to participate in World Cup.

However, the political entities known as regions were not consider as a nation or nation state. As far as I am concerned, Scotland is a nation state with loose federation with England and another entity to form Great Britain. It is very unfortunate you are drawing such comparison.

The loose federation that existed in Great Britain can not compared with the federalism in USA.

Sure, Puerto Rico has its own sports teams that represent it in international sports competitions and yet they cant vote in Federal elections. They have no members in Congress: ARE THEY BEING MARGINALIZED? Ibos, always crying!

Nothing! He achieved Nothing! He left himself in the open and dint do nada! Cos he had a greedy goal to lead Nigeria.

Awolowo on the other hand decided to be tribalistic and regional. He ended up achieving things in Yoruba land. However, he achieved nada in other parts of Nigeria because he was never allowed to do so. Who knows what the outcome would have been if he had the chance.

My point is that Awolowo can only be the greatest leader in Yoruba land, not in other parts. I dint feel his impact. I can only call those leaders that I felt their impacts good leaders.

That Ibadan is in a poor state today is not Awo's fault. That is down to years of degenerate leadership in Oyo state. Adedibu was the power broker in oyo state and even a child born yesterday knows that he was no Awo. Ibadan was once a nice city.

Besides what was so tough about Awo letting lagos island become the capital? If you ask me, It was a smart move.
