Education / Re: NIH, USA Grants Covenant University N1.5 Billion For Bio-research by Pedagogue: 11:43am On Sep 28, 2017
@Statsocial,

This is why I like hardcore facts. Nothing beats facts! No matter how you tweak it, a Fact is a Fact.

Despite your braggado, you have failed to produce any evidence FROM NIH to show that they awarded 1.5 Billion Naira to Covenant University. Remember, your headline says: "NIH, USA GRANTS Covenant University 1.5 billion naira". That headline and the supporting information has now turned out to be misleading. In fact, you have impliedly admitted that the 1.5 billion was not granted to Covenant University.

But in order not to appear defeated, you have precariously stated that it was granted to a 'consortium'. You have also cited the 'numerous' other grants that CU allegedly got from other bodies-which are not relevant to this thread.

This discussion is about NIH. From NIH's website (which you have not challenged), Covenant University has the lowest grant from NIH. UI, UNILAG, UNIJOS etc directly (not consortium*) and separately got far more than Covenant University. The total grant from NIH to Covenant University is $250,000. Period.

See, my brother, I just want you to learn a lesson from this your public gaffe. Nairaland is not OTA where all your propaganda will easily be believed by unsuspecting students. There are Professors, Doctors and other professionals on NL. You can't just post anything! Besides, you need to stop writing/arguing emotionally. Always focus on Evidence, Facts and Logic. May God be with you.

Cheers.

Statsocial:

Lol see me see wahala o.
1) Why are you talking about things you obviously know nothing about?
Forgarty is a center dedicated to advance the purpose of NIH. So research funds granted by Forgarty is same as NIH.

2) "you said it like it is an unprecedented feat in Nigeria" - This statement stems from your paranoia. You think every information posted on social media is for us to brag and chest beat about our various institutions. In the post I made no mention of any other university other than CU, there was no comparison whatsoever.

3) Of course CU would propagate its research awards just like any other foreign university would. The likes of UI and UNN don't do so because precedence as shown that the FG cut funding in Health sector because of foreign NGO participation. So the FG universities don't talk much about grants received to prevent FG from citing them often.

4) You keep citing NIH record of grant awarded 3 years ago for a project already completed. The one of this thread was granted to days ago. It is frustrating that I have to repeat this several times over.

5) "Granted to Africa not CU" - lol is Africa a university? I don't even know what to say to this your argument. It is like saying the Grant was given to North America rather than Harvard.

6) You are citing Adebiyi as a student, this is why I am asking you to stop talking about things you don't know.

7) The point of the post is that CU, amongst a consortium of Universities was awarded $5M(1.7 billion naira) for bioinformatics research. Which was well stated in the post. The tweet Screenshot also indicated that Makerere, ISi Kenya and Bamako are in the consortium. The unilag and Ui project are also in consortium of about nothing less than 30 institutions.

cool Do not get offended o. We know Nigerian universities are known to be "teaching shops" or "degree mills" but we are different and we are keen on telling the Covenant story.

You ought to ask how the project would impact the Nigerian society rather than making unnecessary arguments. NIH is just one of the many sources where CU gets foreign funds from so don't make it look like its a ranking of some sort. We have an established WAVE project in collaboration with IITA and funded by Gates foundation. What about UNESCO funded Software development and Reverse Engineering by Prof Sanjay Misra(600,000USD) or The physics cluster headed by Dilip Kumar De. Or the CU project with IBM, the research collaboration with Lancaster,Tshwanne, Cranfield, University of Wisconsin.

@Statsocial,

If facts-induced comments are what you call "unnecessarily antagonistic" then so be it!

With respect, I think you don't understand the thrust of my argument. Let me help you.

1. You said Covenant University was awarded #1.5 billion by NIH, USA.
2. You said it in a way that suggests it's an unprecedented feat in Nigeria.

On the contrary, I have adduced evidence from NIH that lists the ongoing research awards to Universities in Nigeria. The evidence shows that Covenant University has the lowest Grant from NIH & that NIH only awarded $250, 000 to Covenant University, and not the #1.5 billion that you quoted.

You have now responded by showing recourse to Fogarty Website & Not NIH, the supposed awarding institution.

So what does Fogarty say?

1. $5 million awarded for 'bioinformatics training in Africa'. Note "Africa". NOT Covenant University.

2. The Bioinformatics Grant ($5 million) was awarded to several Students under different headings, viz:

*West Africa (WASLITBRL): Adebiyi (Nigeria, CU), Peter (Ghana) and Doumbia (Mali).

*East Africa (ICIPE): Kenya, Uganda & Tanzania.

The total Grant to ALL the Universities/Researchers is $5 million. So, I ask again, where and how did you arrive at your #1.5 billion figure I repeat, the total grant awarded by NIH to Covenant University is the LOWEST to any University in Nigeria. It is $250, 000. Please we are still waiting for you to give us any evidence at all FROM NIH that shows that #1.5 billion was awarded to Covenant University.

For the umpteenth time, propaganda cannot deceive nairalanders. What rules here is Evidence, Facts and Logic.

Statsocial:

I don't know what you gain in being unnecessarily atagonistic.

The information is right here and dated 25th of September 2017. If you had taken time to read it you would have seen all you needed to see rather than insulting me and then citing records of projects completed already. This new project was granted some days ago.

@Statsocial,

With statements like 'ranting', 'are you ok', and '...wired to think regressively', I have an idea of who you are. I won't go low with you. You can only say this to me on Social Media. So, I forgive you.

I was expecting you to tell us how you arrived at the #1.5 billion NIH grant. Please, I am patiently waiting for you to give us the evidence that supports that. Your Link doesn't show that NIH awarded #1.5 billion to Covenant University. Rather, the incontrovertible evidence from NIH is that Covenant Uni got #250,000 which is the lowest they awarded to a Nigerian University.

When you provide the evidence from NIH that shows that #1.5 billion was awarded to Covenant University, I'll gladly continue the discussion. Let me remind you again; Nairalanders are not brainwashed CU Students. Here, we deal with Evidence, Facts and Logic.

Statsocial:

Lol what the hell are u saying All NIH projects aren't the same. This you put up there was granted years ago and has been completed by most Universities and published in appropriate outlets. This is a different project granted yesterday so pls stop ranting. I already gave you a Link you can very much use it instead of ranting online. What do you mean "desperately" Are you a ok If news about Hushpuppi can be placed on Nairaland front page, news about foreign sport placed on Nairaland is it then a crime to place news about a university winning a grant to Nairaland. You are proving to me that the average Nigerian can't get his life priorities well and is wired to think regressively.

This is my problem with private Universities, especially Covenant University. They LIE every time! Unfortunately, many Nigerians fall for their propaganda.

@Statsocial, do you realise that the following Universities also have the same grant? These are:

1. University of Ibadan;

2. University of Jos; and

3. University of Lagos.

In fact, Covenant University got the lowest award. They have just 1 award from NIH, while UI has 7!!! See the breakdown of the Award and the attached evidence from the NIH Website.

Covenant University-$250,000
Institute of Human Virology, Abuja-$1,798,716
UI- $2,247,127
UNIJOS-$640,000
UNILAG-$641,000

Everything about Covenant University is propaganda. Do you know the number of grants that Federal Universities, especially UI, OAU, UNILAG, UNN & other Federal Universities receive every year? They don't need to make noise about them because they are not capitalists! CU desperately push out information in order to deceive the gullible public to part with their hard-earned money for low-quality religious education!

@Statsocial, please how did you arrive at #1.5 billion? Learn to keep your propaganda within the confines of Ota. Nairalanders are not your brainwashed students!

beetown,

1. I can see that you love her; so don't dump her!

2. It does appear that the main problem is that she doesn't respect you- so, the survival of your relationship depends on this.

3. You must be prepared to make some BIG CHANGES if you really want to have a good future with her.

4. The first is that you must realise that you can't force her to respect you. That's what I think you've been doing WRONG!

5. From experience, no woman will respect you if:
There's no sparkling thing about you i.e Money, intellect, comportment, bright prospect, unusual sex genius etc So, know your 'spark' & continue to 'build' it.

6. In all, learn to treat her with so much respect. You'll be amazed at how much 'respect ' you'll get in return.

7. Never present yourself that you are 'too love-struck'.

8. Don't be afraid to lose her. Regardless of whatever you think atm, she's probably not your God-destined wife.

9. Get her to tell you 3 things she wants you to change & do the same- make her 'disrespectful attitude' your number 1!

10. Don't let ANY relationship distract you from your studies or professional life.

I'm extremely bewildered that a President who came into power riding on the wings of Social Media will appoint someone like Lauretta Onochie as his Personal Assistant on Social Media.

Apart from the unbelievable things she posts on Twitter, she doesn't appear to have any smidgen of temperament to be the Personal Assistant on Social Media to a Local Government Chairman, talkless of the President of Nigeria! Her being the President's PA says a lot about the quality of people that are in the current government!

If in doubt, please see the attached picture. She blocked me on Twitter all because I disagreed with her post. I didn't insult her. I didn't curse her! All I did was that I asked questions! This Buhari Government is a big joke! I publicly reiterate again that I regret supporting this government of deceit and propaganda!

@tomi87014,

I hope you realise that the most liked comments are not necessarily the best!

My first advice-calm down!
Explanation: Most couples experience disillusionment after one and a half or two years of marriage. So what's happening, if properly handled, is not strange!

My second advice-Ignore him- for now!
Explanation: As difficult as this sounds, it can be potent if done correctly. Don't discuss his 'infidelity' again. Continue to prepare his food & don't deny him sex- if he requests. BUT cut all other forms of discussions.

My third advice: Keep him Guessing...
Explanation: Given that you are pregnant, don't try and sexy stunts! Just be very NEAT.

Lastly: Judgment day
Explanation: If you can successfully give him the 'silent treatment ' while being the 'best wife' you can ever be, your hubby will most likely want to mend fences with you. Whenever he does, let him realise that you are still madly in love him, but that his actions are capable of ENDING the beautiful future you are building with him.

In future: Stop your 'FBI investigations'. What you don't know cannot affect you.

Covenant and UNN are under consideration.I'll check the others. https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/where-to-study/study-in-nigeria"

@ Statsocial

I don't know the point you are trying to make. Are you saying Harvard shouldn't be first. Anyway Times higher recognizes 3 universities UI, CU, UNN and has never considered ranking OAU and FUTMINNA

@TheVictorious
TheVictorious:

Ignorance everywhere. Is there any ranking in the world that does not use the basic webometrics indices

Moreso, the fact that the name of this ranking is "webometrics", does it mean that "web indicators" is the only thing considered. Why not be objective simply because of your school fell below wxpectation. Couldn't you have read the methodology to see that research output, size and impact for a specified period of time carried the major weigth (50%).

If you talk about Times Higher Education or any other reputable ranking (as you claim to know), is you highly celebrated OAU in any of them

Do you know that webometrics indicators (among other things) defines the minimum criteria for being included in the THE database, to be worth considering for assessment in their rankings and your OAU does not meet the standard. Do you also know that the Covenant University you are trying to drag to the mould is listed in THE database.

Right now, as it stands, it is only three Nigerian universities that are recognized by THE, and it does not even come as a shocker to me that they are the first three in this rating above!

https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/where-to-study/study-in-nigeria

@Obi1kenobi
Obi1kenobi:

Typical chest-beating, deluded arrogance of OAU students and alumni. They're easily the loudest, brashest, most conceited people I know. Even UI people don't make half as much noise. And why would you assume OAU is better than Covenant or UNN and can't be ranked below them? OAU don turn Oxford, abi?

Thanks for all your comments. Below is my response.

1. It is charitable that @DrayZee admits that 'Webometrics is not ideal for ranking'. Your only query is 'that UNN and Covenant are under consideration for ranking by The Times.' That information, with respect, is intellectually fraudulent. The Times does not put out any information regarding the Universities that are being considered for Ranking. A quick check of the link you provided makes it clear that "Nigeria has 1 University" in the World Ranking of Universities-and that is UI! UNN & NSUKKA have NEVER been ranked by The Times.

2. @Statsocial, your comment is, with respect, very tacky. Where in that comment did I imply that Harvard shouldn't be first? All I said-which still stands is that University of Michigan and Washington University are rated way ahead of Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton and Columbia Universities. In fact, the UK Webometrics Ranking is more absurd. University of Sheffield, Exeter, Leeds and Southampton (to mention a few) are ranked above London School of Economics and Durham University! Where in the world can this happen=WEBometrics!

3.@TheVictorious, your comments are always about 'your university' 'my university'. That's a defeatist way of addressing issues. To address your comment, don't you think you should place less emphasis on a Webometrics Ranking that ranks Michigan University and Washington University above Yale, Oxford, Princeton; and in the UK University of Sheffield, Exeter, Southampton et al above LSE and Durham? In relation to your comment, see my reply to @DrayZee above. Let me add: It is academically dishonest for you to suggest that Covenant & UNN are ranked by The Times. All that is known is 'The Times database for the World Rankings'. Presently, UI is the only University that is ranked and effectively recognised. Anything to the contrary is wholly mischievous.

4.@Obi1kenobi, Read the comments above, particularly No. 2. This thread is about The Webometrics Ranking. My essential point is that there's no way Webometrics Ranking methodology will not lead to absurd conclusions. All they do is that they measure WEB (internet) PRESENCE of Universities. That's why Yale and so many first-class Universities do not do well in their rankings. The same applies to the Nigerian situation. Do you honestly think that FUTMINNA is 'better' than UNILAG & ILORIN? And of course, there's NO credible academic ranking of Universities that will place UNN and Covenant ahead of OAU. Take it or leave it.

It's a shame that many Nigerians accept whatever is thrown at them without doing a personal check!

Quote me, Webometrics is not recognised outside Nigeria, and by extension, Africa. The chief reason for this is that the ranking system does not fit into the most advanced thinking on University ranking methodology. Specifically, the ranking is mainly based on University 'presence' on the internet-hence the name-'WEBometrics'. In fact, there's a caveat on Webometrics' website that: "It does not measure, compare, or quantify design layout or popularity but rather uses presence, access, and visibility as the key indicators of quality and performance in the higher education sector."

Little wonder therefore that the 2017 Webometric ranking of World Universities goes thus:

1. Harvard University
2. Stanford University
3. MIT
4. University of California Berkeley
5. University of Michigan
6. University of Washington

My point: Yale University, Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton and Columbia are ranked 13, 7, 10, 23 and 27 respectively! The only ranking methodology that can lead to such conclusion is WEBOMETRICS!

Accordingly, the only place UNN & Covenant can be rated above OAU, Ile-Ife; and FUTMINNA rated above UNILAG & ILORIN is Webometrics!

The QS World ranking of Universities, Academic ranking of World Universities and the Times are the rankings that are respected all over the world. Unfortunately, apart from UI that is recognised by the Times, no other Nigerian University is recognised by these reputable organisations.

So, stop falling over yourselves-Webometrics has little or no practical utility!

Having heard from the young man, I stand by my earlier comment, viz:

The craziest thing any student can do is to challenge University authorities-in this case, the Nigerian Law School. In fact, Cultists are better treated than student activists.

Although Bello does not cut a picture of a student union leader, he certainly appears like someone that has an unbridled penchant for upsetting the apple cart. However , I will not 'judge' him until I hear his own side of the story.

My wife is a lawyer & I sought her opinion before putting in this comment. Her first response was 'hmmm the boy must be a rabble-rouser if indeed he had problems in a less-activism Uni like UI & was rejected by his principal during externship'. She however added that the Law School is very unpalatable. And that students pay hundreds of thousands for facilities they don't enjoy, and that is why the competition for seats is fierce. Yet, no one must complain because anyone that is not fit & proper will be expelled.'

Given the information I have, I will refrain from 'judging' the young lad. I see him as a metaphor for fighting the injustice at the law school. Wherein lies the future of the Noble Profession if students cannot exercise their right to dissent. Why expel the poor boy for having a different opinion? All he simply did can be summarised as PROTESTS. He didn't beat up anyone. He didn't steal. So why expel him & start the chronicling of his 'offence' from his days in UI?

Expulsion from the Law School is like shattering one's dream. It should be reserved for the most egregious offence. In my view, this expulsion should not stand.

The boy should go to court. He will win.

Statsocial post=]Lol you quoted pedagogue - an hater of private universities grin

Well i would try to be as objective as possible. I think the appropriate question in this case would be "which one is right for you?" Because both unis are quite good. But You need to first consider whether you want a religious-themed university education. If you do then we can proceed to compare tuitio[img]n. I hope you understand that the tuition for CU and AUN are quite different by a wide margin. CU pays less than a million while AUN pays above 2 million which means there are people who attend CU who can't attend AUN because of cost.
As for living cost, I would spend about 25k - 35k a month when I was in CU and that would usually get me food in the morning and evening while I use noodles to compensate for the remaining times(amongst other miscellaneous spendings) but then still Mk findings as there has been inflation so naturally the price of food items must have increased. Ladies also had a naturally higher budget.

I think the only major difference between CU and AUN is that CU is a research based private university. AUN is also moving towards aggressive research but hasn't gotten there yet.

@Statsocial..*[H]ater of private Universities... lol ;
My initial reaction would have been to demand an unreserved apology for the unsolicited 'award' cheesy, but I love you with the love of God.

Besides, I don't hate private Universities; especially your Covenant Uni. I can't afford to hate CU. My siblings graduated from CU with First Class Honours. So, you see, I don't hate private universities, particularly your CU! My criticism is always based on objectivity and a dualist understanding of private and FG Universities.

@Mirand606, I know both Universities quite well, so my opinion may be of interest to you-That's if you've not made a decision.

AUN is the closest thing to an American University in Nigeria. In fact, it has an unwritten rule that you must have a foreign certificate (at Undergrad or Masters or PhD level) before you can be employed as a lecturer.

Weak: 1.Your social life will likely suck if you can't speak Hausa language and not a Muslim. 2. There's less emphasis on academic values and hands-on research. 3. Location.

Covenant: What may interest you about CU is the probability of success. If you are conformable enough to obey all rules and put in your best efforts to your studies, you will graduate with a First. Another positive thing is the location of the Uni.

Weak: 1. Utterly barbaric rules I.e phones and phone accessories are prohibited . 2. You will be FORCED to serve God/attend Church activities. 3.Less emphasis on academic virtues and values.

Tuition : No significant difference.

@Lalasticlala, pls move to the FP for the Op to get more opinions.

@ThePosterAbove, what bridge is Kwankwaso building? Is it by looking after his Hausa-Fulani brothers? Everything he's been doing has been for the Hausa-Fulani! You need examples? He was the first to go to Lagos, Ife, Benue and Enugu-to see his Hausa-Fulani brothers? Is that who you call a bridge-builder

For the discerning minds, 2019 campaign started immediately Buhari left Nigeria for the second time... In 2019, there will be a deluge of aspirants (as usual), but the politicians that 'will' have a realistic chance of winning are:

*Kwankwaso
*Atiku
*El Rufai
*Buhari (Very Unlikely)
*Osinbajo (Very Very Very Very Very Unlikely)

Any sensible person doesn't need to be told that none of the names above have the capacity/plans to change Nigeria for better .

This is why Nigerians of good will need to canvass for a political and socio-economic restructuring of the country. The current system which places so much powers on the President can never change Nigeria. Just imagine Kwankwaso as the President of Nigeria! His Presidency will be from the North, of the North and for the North.

@Obembet(post above) well said...

1. How can Buhari address Nigerians in Hausa language? Is he the President of the North or all Nigerians?

2. Why an audio message? Why not get him to deliver a video message if he's not impaired like they want us to believe?

3. Is this a confirmation that Osinbajo is a 'coordinator' and not the Acting President? If not, why is a President that has handed power and all other appurtenances to the Acting President still acting as the President? Nigeria cannot have a 'President ' and an 'Acting President' at the same time.

4. Why has Buhari refused to declare his medical bills. He's spending OUR money. We deserve to know.

5. Why is Buhari so desperate to remain as our President even though he's clearly very sick and Old?The Presidency is not marriage.A marriage is 'for better for worse, in health and in sickness...'but being a President is about being able to perform certain responsibilities.

6. Finally, why is the National Assembly afraid to impeach him? If Buhari could call for Yar'adua's impeachment over ill health, he has no moral reason to remain in office too!

Before you hurl insults at me, I supported Buhari, voted for him and got many people to vote for him. Truth be told, his presidency has been a huge disappointment. Buhari will go down in history as a President that had a lot of goodwill, but allowed ethnic bigotry and poor decision making to destroy his government.

My recommendation to the National Assembly: start impeachment proceedings against him NOW!

Slandering a reputable University without evidence is the most disgusting and unfathomable of all possible verdicts.

See, OAU is not perfect. The school is bedevilled with many problems just like other Universities in Nigeria and Africa. But all this talk of 'strikes in OAU' is exaggerated. OAU has not experienced any strike action for close to 2 years or so. Meanwhile, UI and UNILAG that have been experiencing closedowns are not being stigmatised in this way.

You are free to say all you want, but facts are sacred. What strikingly distinguishes OAU from other Universities is the immense opportunities for rigorous academic education and the quality of the Alumni that the school produces.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. OAU Ile-Ife is not for the intellectually faint-hearted, neither is it for the socially over-committed. Rather, the Uni is a perfect fit for students that are academically thirsty, and ready to personally improve their understanding of life.

This Churchill guy is too obsessed with his honourary doctorate.

But while he's at it, can someone please tell him that it is very inappropriate for him to address himself or present himself as "Dr Churchill".

All he has is an honorary doctorate. He should stop misleading people. There's a big distinction between a earned 'Dr' title and a honourary doctorate-especially one from an unknown Benin Republic University.

Family / Re: Should I Expose My Wife's EX? by Pedagogue: 3:47am On May 28, 2017
@rogovo20, I hope you get to read this!

First off, I believe you are aware that there's a probability that majority of comments here are by unmarried persons. Although being married/unmarried has nothing to do with intelligence, however giving an opinion on marital issues requires both intelligence and experience. While an unmarried would likely view a marital issue from the normal lense of objectivity, an 'experienced' married man/woman's would most likely recognise the special peculiarities of marriage before giving any opinion. So pls 'sieve' all comments here- including mine!

Having said that, I must also point out that there are always two sides to an issue. All that you have spilled here is your side of the story. I believe that your wife will have a completely different narration of events. So, I will hesitate in passing any judgment on someone who hasn't been given an opportunity to state her own side of the story.

However, I am glad that what you want doesn't require any passing of judgment. All you want to be advised on is whether you should expose/discipline your wife's ex-since it appears that your wife is probably still sprung & her ex is still chatting her up.

From my experience, I think you are in the second-third phase of your marriage. That is the disillusionment-misery stage. It is the most critical stage in a marriage. Fortunately for you, your issue isn't very critical. I mean it! All you are dealing with is a reasonable suspicion of coital infidelity. It is potentially serious- but it all depends on how well you handle the situation.

Listen, my brother, your problem is not your wife's ex. You are not married to him. He's not a member of your family. In short and in fact, he owes you nothing. The fact that you have a personal principle against 'sleeping' with married women doesn't mean that every man has that principle. So, you should please see your wife's ex as the symptom of the problem. Please don't do anything stupid! He's not the source of the problem- your wife is!

Since you now know (hopefully) that your wife is the problem, here's my proposal. First, have a frank conversation with her. Tell her that you love her so much and that you are sorry about past accusations of her cheating. Do not say anything about her Ex. Second, do not provide any room for a suspicion that you are cheating. It is dire at this point. Third, have a second frank conversation with her. This time, tell her how you want to spend the rest of your life with her and the kids. But that the only hindrance to that happening is her ex. Let her know that you aren't comfortable with her talking to her ex. That you want her to make a promise to her that she will block the guy on all social media forums and tell him point blank not to ever call/text her. You shouldn't insist that it must be done in your presence.

If all the above fails, you can then take extreme measures. This may include calling the guy right in her presence and telling him to keep off. You mustn't do it in your wife's back. You are her husband! So, you have all the powers required to tell any man to keep off your wife if you are legally married. In fact, he can be arrested for pestering a married woman. It is a serious offence. On top of that , you can also let her parents know. Parents first-not pastor or imam!

In all, I am happy with your decision to keep your family "regardless of whatever". That is powerful. If it is extended, it means 'regardless of whatever' might have happened up till this point! God bless y

Propaganda is the only weapon being used by private universities to woo unsuspecting parents.

If not, why should the publication of a research paper be celebrated on this scale!

Well, it's because of 'news' like this that most of these Shylock universities are still in business!

@Seun and @ Lalasticlala,

For the sake of NL's integrity, please take this thread down.

Everything that the Op posted is a lie. The Op is in breach of Rule 8. According to the Op, the actress was married to Pasuma. This is a big fat lie. She has never been married to him. Please read the interview she granted where she said she was never married to Pasuma:

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/cant-kiss-actor-set-jaiye-kuti/

What more, the Op @exlinkleads, has not posted any excerpt from the interview the actress supposedly granted.

Third, the so-called post contains an ethnic slur "...but you know Yoruba ladies now, they are not together again" which is unjustifiable by any standard.

Clearly, the Op's post has violated the fundamental rules of NL. Please do the needful.

.....
MODs need to be more careful. Fake news is bad for the image of NL!

Lecturers in Federal universities earn more than those in private universities.

I'm happy she's alive...

Btw, may I use this opportunity to briefly talk about the 'NEW' NAIRALAND!

I've been a member of this forum for quite some time, so I think I can make an informed opinion (though unsolicited) about the current state of the forum...

Methinks @Seun and @lalasticlala are doing an incredible job in keeping the forum alive-especially in light of other competing forces! I really like the fact that the front page is regularly updated & breaking news are readily pushed to the front page!

Having said that, I think @Seun & the MODs must not forget that NL is a forum and not a blog! Thus, unlike lindaikejiblog that is currently struggling to survive because of strong competition from the likes of instablognaija & other Instagram blogs, NL is unique because it primarily relies on posts by Nairalanders.

Therefore, NL needs to ensure that only quality 'amebo' news make it to the front page. Front page Priority should be given to enriching threads. This will encourage more members to create threads. I am saying this because I just stumbled on so many wonderful threads that ought to have been moved to the front page.

Cheers to all Nairalanders!

This is a very intriguing thread!

As an OAU alumnus, and someone that knows so much about CU, I owe you a onerous duty to give you a befitting reply.

I am very busy at the moment, but I will post here as soon as I get some free time.

This is why i will never get married, i will just go adopt 4 kids and take care of them till the day i die

The only women i respect and worship are our mothers

Why are these Instagram ladies of our generation so stupid and brainless ??

You have your husband's phone number

You live in the same house with your husband

You talk with your husband everyday

Why in the hell would you be reporting someone to your husband on Instagram ??

Get married to these brainless women at your own risk

Really!!!

Look at the amount of words you wasted over a seemingly harmless public joke between a wife and her husband! Are you so uptight that you don't have a single iota of humour!

May God save this generation! I had to re-read your comment more than 5 times to be sure of what you were talking about!

Any person with moderate intelligence should know that she was just joking!

You need to find a better avenue to vent your frustration. Describing women as "brainless and stupid" shows the kind of upbringing you have.

My problem is not basically about your comment, but that your comment has many likes- which unfortunately suggests that many people share your views.

You and your likes represent what is wrong with Nigeria. You major on the minor, and minor on the major. Instead of lashing out at the government that has stopped you from acquiring quality education and kept you in poverty, you are venting your frustration on someone's wife, and other women!

I'm so pissed!

Family / Re: Is There A Probability Of Cheating? by Pedagogue: 12:48am On Feb 18, 2017
@darsool500,

I feel compelled to write a reply.

You symbolise the 21st century husband. Very sexually aware of his wife's sexual needs, and ready to do anything to please his wife.

Although it is wonderful that you are ready to go out of your way to please your wife, you must however be aware of the 'risks' involved. In your case, you are psychologically (albeit you don't realise) in a stiff competition with your wife's ex. It also appears that you are constantly nursing the 'real fear' that your wife might cheat on you if you do not meet her sexual fantasies.

My first advice to you, my brother, is for you to STOP worrying yourself. You are doing your health and your children a great disservice by bothering too much about your wife's fidelity. Albeit you might think that you are not bothering 'too much', the medical fact is that you cannot know!

Second, please continue to do all you can to 'reasonably' meet her sexual needs. But do not discuss/probe further into her sexual history. It is not good for you. You will continue to feel inadequate. Again, the more she talks about her ex, the more will she be sexually interested in her ex.

Third, have you ever considered that a gadget can never feel like the real thing? Although I am not against the use of gadgets by married couples, it however appears that the main reason why you are using it is to try and act like her ex, and replicate how her ex used to make her feel. This is impossible. Even with the gadget, you can never be like her ex. Well, I understand that you have thrown the gadget away.

Fourth, resist the temptation to over- sexualise your marriage. Whilst sex is very crucial in marriage, it is not the ultimate. You need to stop the idea of having 'sex' with your wife. Rather, make love to each other. You cannot make love with intimacy gadgets. You cannot also determine the quality of your love-making by the number of time she cums.NO! Love-making is not mechanical. It is intensely emotional.

Let me stop here.

-------
My brother, please know this today that there's little you can do to stop your wife from cheating IF (God forbid) she falls into the category of some 21st century married women that place sexual satisfaction above anything else.

-For now (and hopefully for ever), your wife has not cheated on you to your knowledge. Ignore the comments that suggest otherwise.

-Continue to love your wife, and be involved in her daily activities.

-Your wife did not complain about the size of your tool neither did she ask you to buy the gadget. Don't complicate your marriage.

-Love yourself and don't give yourself any unnecessary stress.

-No man can be ultimately successful if he's constantly preoccupied with concerns over his wife's fidelity

Education / Re: Oau : 10 Reasons Why Its Not The Best University by Pedagogue: 3:54pm On Feb 05, 2017
@MrAwe,

This is a wonderful thread!

You know why? You make OAU look so bad!

Yet, this OAU is still very highly rated. A quick check on the ranking of Universities in Nigeria in the last 10 years will confirm that no University has been rated consistently 'higher' than IFE. Even if OAU is 'closed down' for years, the Uni will always be rated high. The university is that GREAT!

Or is your thread fueled by the SAD news that OAU is rated No. 3 in the 2017 Webometric rankings? If yes, I AM WITH YOU! It is indeed ANNOYING that an excellent University like OAU is not rated the best in Nigeria. However, please be comforted by the fact that the ranking of Universities change almost every year. In fact, Harvard University lost its No. 1 spot in the 2017 ranking of Universities to Oxford! But does it mean that Oxford is better than Harvard? NO!

Having
said that, the above is the most diplomatic response I can offer to your provoking post.

You see, I understand you. Your post was more emotional than rational. Although you raised some fine points about hostel accommodation etc, you blurred your points by your desperate bid to tarnish the image of the University. Points about distance from halls of residence to lecture halls & CGPA are too jejune. You need to visit Harvard University!

See, I left OAU decades ago. The hostel accommodation was extremely poor. So, the poor state of the halls of residence is not 'news'. It has always been like that! Although it's unfortunate, the new generation of students are lucky to have an option of getting private apartments-which comes with more comfort and independence which most private universities do not have!

I will not join others in saying that you are not an OAU graduate. I have long realised that there are 2 classes of OAU graduates; the 'frustrated' and the 'flourishing'!

Frustrated-These are people that feel they should have had a better grade. These people feel that there are current woes is as a result of their Third Class or Pass Degree Certificates that OAU 'harshly' awarded them! There's nothing you can say to these people- they will hate OAU forever.

Flourishing-Even if they had issues with the University (as most students do), their flourishing careers would have made them forget any 'past issue'. They are forever happy that OAU moulded them to the success they've become.

......
For prospective students, don't choose OAU if you cannot compete against the BEST. OAU is not for Olodo students

Celebrities / Re: Professor Pius Adesanmi On 2face's Planned Protest. by Pedagogue: 2:33pm On Feb 02, 2017
Check my previous posts.

I supported Buhari. I voted for him.

But before you childishly call me a 'wailer' or any of the childish tantrums that I read on NL, and other social media pages, may I implore you to please note the following:

1. The elites (ruling class) laugh at our foolishness every time we label ourselves 'wailers', 'Ipob', 'Afonja' etc.

2. The goal of the elites (ruling class) is to make money/acquire power for the benefit of themselves/family

3.The elites (ruling class) do not give a damn about their ethnicity or religion when they share our money.

4. If the elites (ruling class) make money/acquire power for themselves/family without giving a hoot about each other's religion or ethnic group, why can't we collectively focus on the goal of having a better Nigeria without focusing on our differences?

Having said that, it is important for me to emphasise that I voted for Jonathan in 2011. I only voted for Buhari because Jonathan failed. PERIOD.

But now, Buhari, in whom I invested my hopes has shamefully failed. The next 2 years of his tenure CANNOT change the 2 years of his failure. He's just fundamentally ill-equipped to govern any 21st century country.

I don't care about Tuface's intentions. The mere fact that he wants to provide a platform for people to express their dissatisfactions is a wonderful idea.

I support the protest , and will always support any platform that Nigerians can get to tell the state and federal governments that THEY HAVE FAILED US
