armyofone: The same oyinbos do stay at home moms more than any group. Bill Gate's mom was a stay at home mom. I think Melinda Gate at some point was a stay at home mom. I wonder if Mr. Gate will use Excel spreadsheet/Excel QM to calculate how long she didn't work grin.
Black women are hardworking. You don't see a stay at home black women, not common. Even in Nigeria many are trading to contribute. Have you seen a Tiv woman before? Not sure where you guys got the idea that black women contribute only sex.
Melinda was born in 1964 in Dallas, Texas. She was the second of four children born to Raymond Joseph French Jr., an engineer, and Elaine Agnes Amerland, a homemaker. She has an older sister and two younger brothers. Gates, a Roman Catholic, attended St. Monica Catholic School, where she was the top student in her class year. She graduated as valedictorian from Ursuline Academy of Dallas in 1982. Gates earned a bachelor's degree in computer science and economics from Duke University in 1986 and an MBA from Duke's Fuqua School of Business in 1987.

Shortly thereafter, she joined Microsoft and participated in the development of many of Microsoft’s multimedia products including Publisher, Microsoft Bob, Encarta, and Expedia.

In 1994, she married Bill Gates in a private ceremony held in Lanai, Hawaii. Shortly thereafter, she left Microsoft to focus on starting and raising her family. Her last position was Microsoft’s General Manager of Information Products. Melinda and Bill Gates have three children: daughters Jennifer Katharine Gates (born 1996) and Phoebe Adele Gates (born 2002), and son Rory John Gates (born 1999). The family reside in a large mansion on Lake Washington.

Melinda served as a member of Duke University's board of trustees from 1996 to 2003.Gates attends Bilderberg Group conferences and holds a seat on the board of directors of the Washington Post company. She retired from the board of Drugstore.com in August 2006 to spend more time working for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

As of 2009, Melinda and Bill Gates have donated more than US$24 billion to the Foundation.
[edit]
Awards and recognition

In December 2005, Melinda and Bill Gates were named by Time as Persons of the Year alongside Bono. Melinda and Bill Gates received the Spanish Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation on May 4, 2006 in recognition of their world impact through charitable giving. In November 2006, Melinda and Bill Gates were awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle for their philanthropic work around the world in the areas of health and education, particularly in Mexico, and specifically in the program "Un país de lectores".

She was ranked #40 in Forbes 2008 list of the 100 Most Powerful Women, #24 in 2007, and #12 in 2006.

In May 2006, she was honored for her work to improve the lives of children locally and around the world with the naming of the Melinda French Gates Ambulatory Care building, at Seattle Children's (then called Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center). She also chaired The Campaign for Children’s, a $300 million comprehensive fundraising campaign to expand facilities, fund undercompensated and uncompensated care and grow the hospital’s research program to find cures and treatments.

On June 12, 2009, Melinda and Bill Gates received honorary degrees from the University of Cambridge. Their benefaction of $210 million in 2000 set up the Gates Cambridge Trust, which funds postgraduate scholars from outside the UK to study at the University.

Melinda has also donated over $10 million to her high school Ursuline Academy of Dallas. She is one of the major donors of their Facing the Future Campaign and was honored in their dedication ceremony on May 7, 2010.

armyofone: You don't have to contribute anything to want something. It is a marriage and what is yours is mine. Black guys complain too much.
Thank goodness for oyinbo law of 'garnishment' grin
Thesame oyinbo that will tell you to contribute 50% of your salary for house rent and every other house keep? You black women are really confused people that want to eat your cake and have it. Many of you guys marry a blackman and contribute nothing in the marriage except sex yet you want to benefit what the white woman benefits after divorce.

Sagamite: And some people would say I shouldn't call people like him person? That restriction would be a crime to humanity.

How can someone be allowed to be that dumb? It is emotional, spiritual and psychological support of Usain Bolt's wife that is making him run fast or the dedication to training he himself says he hates but has to do?

Honestly, the guy needs his brain blown to shreds. Imagine this person being drafted into jury service? The case should automatically be ruled a mistrial.
You need to go to the religious section to see the kind of topic that FXKing2012 is raising. The guy is just absolutely daft in all subject matter. Infact his IQ will be in the negative range.

baby_123: Okay, i know gatemen whose wives stay at home. What exactly is your point. huh. And who is making noise here? If you cant argue constructively please just read. huh
So you want your children to live like the children of such gate men and make poverty to continue to increase at an exponential rate? It is better not to have a child than bring them into the world to suffer.
Good life don't come easy. You have to work for it irrespective of your sex
FamilyRe: Divorce Settlement And Child-Support Be Introduced In Nigeria? by 2good(m): 10:59pm On Jan 14, 2013
baby_123: Every couple is different. I personally will stay at home till my kids start school when they come. And it has already been agreed. I wont miss those years for any money in the world. Neither would i put them in the care of a stranger or my parents. I am not lazy in any way, shape or form. So because you think your wife should be a certain way, does not mean others should adopt that. It also doesn't make the woman lazy. The amount a woman sacrifices to stay home is unquantifiable.
You are making noise because you are married to a man who can provide for you and your children. Assuming your husband is struggling, you will work even 10 hours per day plus Saturday and Sunday sef.
FamilyRe: Divorce Settlement And Child-Support Be Introduced In Nigeria? by 2good(m): 10:34pm On Jan 14, 2013
FXKing2012: All these dudes saying they dont support divorce settlement are only being selfish and wicked.

So many men insist on their wives being full housewives; so many men dont allow their wives to study further after marriage; women are forced to put their careers and studies on hold due to pregnancy or marriage; so many women help their husbands achieve emotional stability which helps the men perform well in the office, but when they separate/divorce the guy keeps everything while the woman leaves with nothing plus the responsibility of taking care of the kids. Now ask yourselves, is that fair?
Are you married at all. You seem to be a noise maker discussing marriage from a theoretical point of view.
FamilyRe: Divorce Settlement And Child-Support Be Introduced In Nigeria? by 2good(m): 6:22pm On Jan 14, 2013
FXKing2012: I think the divorce settlement law should be introduced in Nigeria to protect women as well as the child support law to protect children. Any civilized society ought to have such laws in place to protect women and children.

What is your take on this?
I thought you are supposed to be a born again Christian and bible is completely against divorce.
Back to the topic, I for one will not get married if there is anything like divorce settlement. I will advocate for child support because if you bring a child into this world, it is your responsibility to give the child a good future but for divorce settle to a woman, I can never subscribe to that because there are lots of gold diggers out there looking for an opportunity to nail a man down and rip him off his hard earned money especially in Nigeria where poverty rate is very high.

FutureDon: If your debit card aint working, I suggest you lookup 'Zenith Bank Websurfer' or Zenith Bank Buxy Card' online as I don't have up-to-date info on them any longer. They both work efficiently and you don't have to be a Zenith Bank account holder before you can get one. Also, you could always use them to order additional test scores. Good luck with your applications.

Yeah, you used to be very active on this thread back then.

ezme: ‎"The easy confidence with which I know another man's religion is folly teaches me to suspect that my own is also" -- Mark Twain

Should I experience a "deconversion" in the near future, know it started from reading this thread.
The truth is that we are mostly a product of our system. The American slaves were deprived of education because the white man knows that a "right education" liberates the mind and make people to think for themselves. I used the word "right education" because, during the middle age period, the mind and thought of Europeans were controlled by their rulers through determining the kind of books or knowledge they are supposed to read, so even though some were educated in a particular field, most of the education were biased and meant to make them a loyal subject of their rulers.
People should know that any system that try to restrict them from trying something else is probably hiding something. The good thing about this era is that we have access to unlimited information on the Internet, that knowledge can easily to acquired through doing a personal research yourself and determining what you feel is correct based on knowledge rather than cultural indoctrination.
Keep on searching and you will see the truth.

It is the same disbelieve that makes people want to cling on to religion even though they have seen many evidence to the contrary. It is best to accept reality, be a man and face your nightmares rather than pretending they don't exist because you have always been thought so from birth.

tush12: Most of d pple here cite as their reasons for atheism, d actions of others. I don't know y pple can't be held accountable 4 their misdeeds. I feel God gave us all free will and we will be judged by how we lived our lives not by how many times we go to church. No one has all d answers so its funny wen I see some ignoramus telling me categorically dat God doesn't exist and yet he won't xplain how he got here or prove his claims with science or logic. We can't ever truly understand d universe so to each his own. And pls try to respect people's opinion. However, I would rather believe dat God exists. D world is depressing enuf. No one should take away my hope.
You can see that you have a very narrow minded view of things. You call people who refused to believe your god ignoramus yet you are telling them to respect people's opinion when you refused to respect their opinion by insulting them.
You also talked about their not providing evidence for the non existence of god, while you have not been able to provide an evidence for the existence of god. Do you think you have a good argument here by insulting people with different views from yours without giving them evidence or reason why they should change their beliefs to yours?
You are just an intolerant religious bigot and with people like you out there, expect more people to leave your faith.

reloboy: Congratulating an Atheist Normally, when I meet an atheist, the first thing I like to do is to congratulate him and say, " My special congratulations to you", because most of the people who believe in God are doing blind belief - he is a Christian, because his father is a Christian; he is a Hindu, because his father is a Hindu; the majority of the people in the world are blindly following the religion of their fathers. An atheist, on the other hand, even though he may belong to a religious family, uses his intellect to deny the existence of God; what ever concept or qualities of God he may have learnt in his religion may not seem to be logical to him. My Muslim brothers may question me, "Zakir, why are you congratulating an atheist?" The reason that I am congratulating an atheist is because he agrees with the first part of the Shahada i.e. the Islamic Creed, ‘La ilaaha’ - meaning ‘there is no God’. So half my job is already done; now the only part left is ‘il lallah’ i.e. ‘BUT ALLAH’ which I shall do Insha Allah. With others (who are not atheists) I have to first remove from their minds the wrong concept of God they may have and then put the correct concept of one true God.

You are so deluded. I can even tolerate the Christians when they talk about god but for Musims, you guys are so intolerant to deal with.
Can you justify these practices?

I guess we Agnostics/ Atheist on Nairaland are doing a good job in making many people sea reason for our loosing our faith. The biggest problem with many religious people is that they are just afraid to accept the fact that all what they've been taught and have practiced from birth is a hoax.
Also real education and access to information is required for people to critically think for themselves. Just asking of basic questions in religion is seen as blasphemy all in a bid to continue to lock people's mind in ignorance by preventing them from seeking a greater knowledge outside their created comfort zone.
I was a social pariah right from when I was like 15 years till I left Nigeria as an adult just because of my faith. Getting a girl friend while in the University was almost impossible because the few Unilag girls I could even attract, wanted me to be very dedicated in church which was something I couldn't compromise since it will make me look like a hypocrite. I still feel out of place each time I am in Nigeria because everything revolves round church, more church, prayer and God.

Sky2012: from what i understand, atheists seems to be more educated and enlightened ones, sometimes i doubt if they are nigerians because i hardly see such people on the streets. am a Christian and am not trying to become an atheist but i always like to read their posts. the sound more enlightened and educated in things of life than we religious people. anyway, i pray that God brings them back to so they can use their brain and work for God.
lol bro. You are really funny. When I stopped going to church, I didn't see anybody that reason like me for 3 years until I got into UNILAG to study Engineering. It takes guts to have an opinion different from the general public. Alot of people are against religion but are really afraid to challenge the status quo in the public.
Besides challenging religion, I have always been challenging alot of irrational traditional practices in Nigeria and hate an answer which says, "it is done that way because that it is our culture". Everything you do should have a reason.
People should always review their systems in order to select the practices that improves their life and discard ancient practices that makes them not to develop as a people. The unfortunate thing is only few people reason straight and alot of time you'll discover that people are just not ready for change. They want to remain locked in their ignorance!

Uyi Iredia: Christianity is a religion which is framed around the person of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible.
Thank you Mr. Uyi. People go to church, allow pastors to brainwash them and say rubbish in the public without using their own brain to sieve the nonsense out and accept only the reasonable part of church teachings. English language was developed by the English people not your illiterate pastors. So don't try to redefine a language in order to just satisfy your believe.

FXKing2012: It is not possible for the Bible to mention every sin by name; smoking is not specifically mentioned in the Bible but we as Christians know it's a sin based on the verses I quoted earlier.
Those who were born with marks, had surgery which left them with marks or had accident leaving them with marks on their bodies can not be considered as sin because it was not intentional and not even their own doing.

The Bible is not a story book or a novel; it's a spiritual food from God which requires a certain level of spirituality to understand it, that is why I laugh whenever I see scholars or atheists trying to interpret the Bible.
I'm also out of this thread because your intelligence is just too low for me to engage with you in a rational discussion.

991: ..no offense...=> you probably have not traveled out of the shores of nigeria, have you? in western world, the new generation are getting less interested in religion & bible. parents in some countries prefer their children to be taught ethics and not religion. in fact, from the global view of things, the bible and its contents are gradually being less important in the lives of people. religion still flourish in nigeria because of the gullibility of moronic followers and the wise ones are making millions weekly out of people's ignorance.
I just didn't want to raise the issue on your quote that is bolded. Many people in Nigeria don't understand how the world works that is why they reason the way they do. America is the only majorly religious western country but alot of young people are turning away from religion and so i expect America to be like Europe in 40-50 years time.
Most Africans just accept things without using their brain to reason that is why people are too superstitious there.

christemmbassey: @2good: ppl quoted 100s of years ago, where are they? Very soon you will be gone and ur children will continue the quoting and bablings yet the bible will remain. Guy its a 'programmed failure'
Its a pity that people refused to use their brain to reason. So because people before you have recited from the bible, you will just follow them because its a societal norm? If you cant defend the book you are making noise about, then stop forcing your opinion on others.

You have a brain, so use it!
