In as much as I agree with some of what you've said, I will advice you not to ever use the status quo of your immediate environment to set your standard. Your future lies in your own hands. Also don't discourage young people with no experience because experience comes with time so everything is about hard work and patience with a little bit of luck.

I have met many business leaders, importers,travel agents,artisans, bank managers,extremely brilliant and practically knowledgible ppl etc from d street and markets of onitsha. D only ppl i knew from school are mostly unemployed and struggling yrs after graduation. U can make more connections by learning to have a pleasant and gregarious personality in d work place,church,motor park and even nairaland than u would make by being in school with d same class for 4-5yrs.

Having schooled in UNILAG for my BSc and Europe for my MSc both on scholarship, I know where and what my class mates from both Nigeria and Europe are doing currently. I don't have to make a back and forth argument with you, but I am really proud of the achievements of over 70% of my Nigerian classmate and 100% of my European MSc classmates. It is my opinion from personal experience and you don't have to accept it.

University education gives you a life time exposure and connection of friends who would be future leaders and top executives in the future. That is something you can never quantify. Being in the university environment refines you and open your reasoning.

Joagbaje: People gave money for tithe or offering in the bible days for several reason. God accepted tithes of crops ,plant and animals for two reasons, 1. The people were predominantly farmers by default. 2.those items were needed in the temple.

But it is not every plant ,crop,and animals God accepted. Some are unclean animals. You can't imagine someone bring pig ,marijuana plant , dog, Carmel and all manner of unclean beast into the holy temple.

Those who rear unclean things have to substitute them for money either for tithe or offering. It is called redemption. You redeem it with money to fulfill the tithe purpose.

There's a special tithe of tithes also which is eaten with the priest and the poor . If you can't bring your animal to the temple ,you can convert the tithe to money also and used it for the purpose of the feast in the temple.

Generally money is a medium of exchange. People gave money as tithe. Tithes is not limited to plants and animal only .People gave tithe of all their possession. Income earners give tithes as well. Everyone tithed . Because tithe belongs to God. Is a mans way of recognizing God as his source.

I don't think you're entirely correct.
Biochemists can work in the oil sector. Don't look at things from the Nigeria perspective only.

But if a Nigerian is asking a question, you cannot rule out the Nigerian factor in responding to his question. I have only seen one Microbiologist and no Biochemist working in the oil and gas industry on a production platform offshore and he came in as a contract staff(and is still a contract staff) through a very strong connection. Being an Engineer in the industry, the truth is the probability of getting a technical role with no experience as a non Engineer/ physical scientist(chemistry and physics) is very slim. I have a friend with a BSc Chemical Engineering degree with an MSc Geophysics from Imperial College. Many companies refused him job as a Geophysicist because they said he doesn't have a BSc in Geophysics. The competition is more than stiff out there and you have to have the relevant qualification and experience to compete.
The sad truth is that it is very difficult for a non Engineer or physical scientist to get a technical role in the industry but not impossible though.
