She can cook for all the men in the world if she likes... As long as she does it for all her male friends and not one particular person and she doesn't go to their house to do it. AND she never complains when it's time to cook mine, even if it's by 12am.
what if she keeps doing it for one particular guy? Says he's her 'friend'?

Hehehehe...so you sef don dey eye the woman.
You have committed the sin of lookery.

But seriously though, let me get something clear:
Is it that she cooked the normal daily meals at home for her family, and then had some of it packaged for this guy... OR is it that she's cooking specifically for the dude?
#heading to confession ...

She asks him what he would like to eat at work. He responds e.g. rice and stew. She goes ahead to go home and cook rice and stew for him and brings it to his house later in the evening....

So you're saying she is just being nice?

I admit I am a bit old school when it comes to relationships/marriage etiquette but this early morning palaver got me bothered. Without much ado, is it normal now for married female folk to be cooking food for thier male friends at the workplace or anywhere? These men are not thier husbands oh! As in, can't these men find single chicks to cook for them or better yet go to a restaurant or even better yet learn how to cook for themselves?

Me I don't think I can accept my babe cooking for anyone apart from me. Even if she asks my permission sef. Even if the guy is on his deathbed, he should find a sister or cousin or hire a cook kwa, haba, cooking is a special act to me and any lady saying she wants to cook for this guy cos he doesn't have food in his house is cheating o, odikwa risky!

Well, just my thoughts sha. But I think it's very wrong.
FamilyRe: Did I Handle The Situation Well Or Could I Have Done More? by 5minsmadness: 9:05am On Apr 29, 2016
Your jealous.
It's normal. After all, you are her husband.
But don't read too much meaning into it.

As per the phone. She only said that cos it's been in her thoughts for a while that the phone is actually cheap. If u can, change it. It's not a priority though.

Like stanleyafam said, don't dwell too much on these things else you will grow thin.

P. S. Hope u didnt say those things about infidelity in a wife to her face? It will make her feel sad and disappointed. And she may start trying harder to hide such things from you. For now it seems like she is being quite open about her predicaments with mischevious men. Don't make her start hiding such things.
FamilyRe: What Are Your Thoughts On This? by 5minsmadness: 11:52am On Apr 28, 2016
A 65yr old man driving his wife away. Is that wise at his age?
If am the woman I will pack my things and go. Only him will come begging afterwards.

P. S this story sounds made-up or at the very least partially true.

FamilyRe: What Is The Essence Of 'bride Price'?. by 5minsmadness: 11:03am On Apr 28, 2016
postmann:
You started well, but couldn't help twisting the facts as you bring your post to conclusion.
An abusive man doesn't need bride prize to abuse his wife.

Before a woman crosses that great chasm of marriage where she leaves her father's home for good and cling to a new home and culture, where she would bear children who will be the future generation, children who would be kings, presidents, leaders and teachers, children who will trace their lineage through their father, it is right that certain rites ought to be fulfilled.
A young unmarried girl belongs to her father and her father's family to an extent.

Bride price is both a physical and spiritual ritual as far as African culture goes. It is the appeasement of both man and spirit. It is also the fulfilment of manhood and a testament of financial responsibility on the side of the man that he is capable of taking care of his family.
As far as Africa goes, until a bride price is paid as stipulated by the girl's father, she's not properly married. The spirits won't recognise such a marriage even if it were conducted in a church by the Pope himself or in a court by the chief judge of the federation. Until a father's requirements are met in the traditional marriage setting, she remains not properly married. Only he has the privilege to give his daughter out.

Bride price does not in anyway depicts the trading off of women. Like every good custom and practice, it is bound to suffer abuse and corruption.
Well said my good man. Well said.

It will interest u to know tha even the church will not go ahead with a marriage until the bride price has been paid.

And like u said, every good custom and practice will suffer abuse and corruption. That doesn't make it bad.

I can't imagine a man refusing to pay a woman's bride price in one way or the other. A woman he professes to love? That man ain't worth his salt. And that woman isn't his wife.
FamilyRe: What Is The Essence Of 'bride Price'?. by 5minsmadness: 10:50am On Apr 28, 2016
mizquote:
if a man want to show appreciation to the bride family by bringing gifts, it very okay, likewise the lady.

but no piece of paper should be presented to the man to pay certain amount of money to the family, even if the man can not afford it.

A lady's value is not on the money the man pays to her family, but expressed in the way he respects and treats her and her family.
The paper is for formality and uniformity.
Giving a suitor a bride price he can't afford is due to two reasons :
1. The family doesn't like the man.
2. Greed.

Value in this context is symbolic. You are not literally buying the woman , just showing her worth to her family symbolically.
FamilyRe: Question Of The Day:- Your Wife Or Your Mum, Who Would You Buy A Car For First? by 5minsmadness: 8:57am On Apr 28, 2016
My wife.
My mom already has a car.
FamilyRe: What Is The Essence Of 'bride Price'?. by 5minsmadness: 8:55am On Apr 28, 2016
The essence of bride price is to show the woman's value.
And it's not just our (African) culture.

All over the world to woo a woman you have to bring gifts. Weather its a single rose or 10 tubers of yam, you just can't walk into a woman's family and take away one of their children.

No matter how emancipated women have become they are still women. They will not lose thier ability to bear children neither will they suddenly become physically stronger than men no matter how much they earn. Women are nurturers of the human race and should be treated with a certain respect and dignity and should be given the value they deserve when being made a part of a man's family.

Hence the bride price.
FamilyRe: What Is The Ideal Way To Punish A Child by 5minsmadness: 8:46am On Apr 28, 2016
Spank him.
Dialogue does not work, either here or in the western world. Just look at how disorderly thier children are.

Showing the child that if he does something wrong he will experience pain is the best way to bring a child up in the formative years. When he gets old enough to actually understand reason (like his teens) then the spanking can stop.

While I agree that people should not compare their relationships.... I find the rest of your post amusing.

You seem to suggest there are no good husbands & every woman is suffering and smiling somehow when she says she wouldn't take poo.

I know husbands who would do anything to make their wives happy always... If senerading her nightly or as oft as he can does it, he is willing.

It is hard to believe there are still fantastic husbands around as the sob stories and negativity sells and once a wife doesn't tell us how her husband pounds her daily or goes on a dick sharing campaign, she is lying.

This is why I find it hard & unnecessary discussing details of my relationship/marriage with anyone... and when people start their sob stories, I switch to listen only mode as I have none to tell.

I believe people have loving relationships on/offline because I have seen examples. Everyone knows what is good for them and if playing the fool helps them achieve it, great.

N.B.: You just managed to tell us that there are no good husbands.
If this is all you understood from my write-up then you have serious comprehension problems.

There are no perfect husbands. Just as there are no perfect relationships.

Old story and I commented on a previous thread.

However OP, what was Biyi supposed to divorce her husband forhuh

Wrong thread title.
The message here isn't on divorce per say~ more on the way women listen to and give advice to themselves. You see it a lot on this forum and in the real world: I won't take this, my man can't try that, I will divorce him straight, you must be a f00l to still be staying with him, you must be mentally retαrded or a doormat to give him sex when he wants, you might as well be a widow, you don't know your self worth, (and my favourite) - divorce him! He doesn't deserve u grin

They give extreme advice for relatively simple situations and give extreme examples to buttress their points (he must be sleeping with another woman, I know men, etc)

Most women are very bad with their mouths and they can give very caustic advice in relationships that are not thiers while hiding their own deficiencies or rather painting their own relationship in a 'perfect light':

I married my best friend
My man serenades me every night wink
My man takes me to the Bahamas every weekend
We have been together for years and he has never raised his voice at me
We agree on everything.

Smiling and shining on the outside meanwhile they suffer even worse abuse from their 'perfect' partners in secret.

Women should wise up on themselves. Don't compare your marriage with anyone else's. True, there are certain irredeemable situations where separation can be considered, but most issues out there are ones that can be ironed out and done without the woman taking a battleaxe into the fray because her friend told her if she was the one she won't stand for it, meanwhile that friend suffers much worse things at home.

Bukatyne, I trust u will find at least one point here to disagree with grin

Depends on the expectations not being met. I wouldn't divorce a guys for the reasons above re not having a job. A job doesn't define a person rather it would be his attempts at to solve the problem that I would analyse.

Anyways, I am going through a divorce right now and would advocate it when all else fails. The most important thing is determining when the horse is well and truly dead. At that point, it's time to move on.

So there! One divorce advocate present.!!! grin grin
Awww, sorry to hear that. sad

And I do send her all my hand written threads for her perusal before posting grin

Nice narrative and a true depiction of the character of most married women.

And that has been the bane of some marriages.

The needless penchant for petty competition and out-shinning their neighbours' wives.

A man who finds a wife that's true to reality has found a treasure here on earth.

When you focus on the 'have nots', you make yourself into the 'have nots'. You will then become very hostile, jealous and resentful at all the things your partner doesn't do instead of valuing what he/she brings on the table.

This attitude can turn into treading on thin ice and your desires will come across as demands that can set stage for a lot of fights. Whenever you think that your relationship is falling short compared to your friends or strangers, try remembering that you only see slices of their real lives. wink

What you can do while admiring other people relationships,is to recognize your own relationships strengths and focus on the thing that are working while trying to improve others by coming up with ideas for how to do it.

Over thinking and toiling over things that have absolutely no bearing to your relationship/marriage can be disastrous because things might never work for you because you are different.
