Conductor261: Seriously other lesser brands like Lexus Nissan and Toyota.... really irksome
Marpol, praxtech, mokelu, these are the kind of posts that bring the Toyota crew over. While talking about your famous brand, it would be be nice if you advised the crew or report them when they post things like this as well. He who brings home an ant infested log, shouldn't complain when lizards come visiting.
It's simple really.
For some reason, that quote above was overlooked by a lot of people showing vision 2020 is working. Hopefully, the person who posted it doesn't continue.
NaijadrivaCars: This one has 1.6L FSI but someone told me the MPI engine (below) is better. Verify pls.
Again, what about parts? I called a VW dealer and he said complete engine is 150k (engine + gearbox), half is about 110k.
I hear say e get electrical issue.
One thing baffles me, Julius Berger has some of this VW Polo in their fleet (though TDI - diesel).
Julius Berger has (Volkswagen) trained mechanics. They have parts of that car in stock in their warehouse. They have the diagnostic machine and support from Volkswagen to fix those TDIs. Volkswagen's electrical problem is a nightmare I wouldn't wish anyone. Imagine a burnt out inner light affecting cooling fan operation. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.
king406: about 3 years ago i went to a hyundai dealership in abuja to replace spark plugs and oil, same dealership the car was bought brand new. A couple weeks later the car started misfiring again, this time we went to a local mechanic and we found out the plugs were never replaced, they probably just cleaned them and put them back in.
I saw worse. The Kia guys were using a Nigerian made ATF in a Kia transmission. Their drums of engine oil 10w-30 were from dozzy. No wonder I saw a lot of Kia Rio's with blown engines in their lot.
I was expecting it to become light and fly off. Wait, he did a power slide at 220km/hr? And the car didn't roll fifty times? That's not possible by a Japanese.
This is what goes on in most dealerships in Nigeria. Be it Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Mercedes; name it. That's how they make their money. And they won't let you see what they are doing. They charge you premium for regular service.
From reading some of posts here I have an impression that there are many interstate travelers in here.
Please, I will be embarking on a road trip from Lagos to Abakaliki after the interstate movement ban is lifted. I wish to know how the road is cos I will be driving down. Will it be wise to drive Honda EOD for this trip?
Lagos to Asaba is the usual. The big pot holes were patched when I travelled during the Xmas period. Drivable, nothing the EOD can't handle. From asaba to Onitsha is a breeze. Watch out for cars making left turns or coming from your left. Drive gently. Onitsha to Awka is also fairly smooth. If you want to avoid bad roads, follow the Awka to enugu old road. It will take you through Nkpor, ogidi, ogbunike, umudioka, Abagana, enugwu ukwu to Amawbia. Continue on the Awka to enugu old road. There is a right turn along the Awka to enugu old road that will take you to enugu -port Harcourt expressway way. It's a twisting and winding road. There are bumps on this road so drive with care. Nothing the EOD can't handle. From this point on, it's a smooth drive to abakaliki. This enugu-ph road will take you to nnpc mega station at enugu and a right turn from the mega station will take you straight to abakaliki. Your EOD will be fine.
HeavenlyBang: Even when tracking a mid-engined Corvette, taking a corner at 90 MPH (145km/h) is impressive. And I'm supposed to believe that you, a random guy without any professional track training, is taking corners in a C300 at 160km/h.
Right.
I wonder if una feel say una dey follow goats talk for here.
. On naija roads with possibility of oncoming cars. I swear, some people here think we are still in primary school where they can tell me their dads cars can fly. Something even a mid engined corvette can't do.
Conductor261: Please do you have an idea of what the 2010 Cerato engine costs?
I hear its expensive. Last time I enquired, it was close to 560k. Price may have come down now as it is now relatively old. Gear box was more than 350k with plenty abeg last year. Not a cheap car to wreck an engine or gear box.
Theconglomerate: Overspeed and I lost control, ogoni road for Akwa ibom side, just after that rivers and Akwa ibom separation bridge. 175kph and I tried to brake hard and dodge on the road but the thing shift widely and enter Bush. But it was my fault and not the car's fault. But then, japanese cars can hardly come back after accidents when fixed the Nigerian way. Noise, vibration and my case sef the thing started driving one sided. Like the head will be facing left and tail right. I just cut my loss and move on.
Okay. Sorry about your loss. Didn't know you later sold the es.
rationalmind: This is really funny . Na to do your best leave the rest jare. After all when you ready sell and you put price, den go begin ask you how much be toks
Theconglomerate: The misfire keeps coming o,nothing I never do to stop it but it keeps coming. Change 4 coil, change all 4 plugs, the guy don dey go that nozzle and air flow meter side and I tell am say make e leave am I have noticed that thing only happens when I accelerate very hard and hit 80mph.But if I accelerate gradually even to 100mph,it doesn't happen. As for flood part eh,I got caught unawares, you know ph na. Rain dey fall, long traffic so the flood met us in traffic, and inevitable situation. And I also noticed that when cel and trac off light comes up,performance drop slightly .
I had a similar issue in my cerrato. Plug and coil change didn't sort it. Mine was cylinder 3.. My mechanic said I should service the injectors and wash the fuel filter. It didn't make sense to me but I told him to come and do it. He did and the misfire went away. Who would have tot?
Theconglomerate: na the way o,na wetin we dey do. As it gets old, boring and trying to die,na to push am off to someone that have energy for mechanic, albeit transparently. My Es get accident a while ago nau, shebi I been tell you. And you know how japanese cars can collapse like a house of cards after accidents Nothing like merc Eddie, irrespective of the things people say. My merc sef don go a while back,900k under hard struggle.
Majority of the Tokunbo japs on our roads are accidented. They have not collapsed. What caused your accident? Overspeed? Or you will blame the Lexus for being light above 120? Every car will collapse depending on the severity of the accident. If you roll a car over multiple times, I'm not sure it's ever going to remain the same even if it's a G wagon.
Theconglomerate: As for resale value for mercedes,it's rubbish. But I found out that what's worse in mercedes is running cost. So I did a little research and found out that w212s are pretty reliable. What killed my c class was travelling.Today Akwa ibom, tomorrow owerri, calabar, all what not... So I figured if one uses a merc the way it is supposed to be used, like say a once in a while car, running cost will drop drastically especially for the E class. Las las all this noise and complain na bread cos am,no be say person no known what to do sha.
How can you buy a car to drive it once in a while? Who told you that's how Mercedes cars are to be used? So which car will do all those journeys? Japanese? You are indirectly saying Mercedes is unreliable if they can't be used as daily drivers thereby confirming what a lot of people have been saying here and disappointing a lot of Benz or nothing folks. It is well.
Theconglomerate: This is where you will hate toyotas. Just see what it will cost you to get it running again. My own too AC don dey worry, like it cools after a small drive, but sometimes when stationary it blows hot. Port Harcourt flooded just some weeks ago and the car is feeling very lose already in its suspensions. Same car keeps throwing CEL up and down in the name of misfire in cylinder 4,for a car I got this year. Infact toyotas are boring, cheap feeling pieces of metal meant to bore people to death and built for suckers. Please kindly hit your head for wall if you don't agree with me as it is my opinion and I really don't care how you feel and I won't respond to your stupid criticism. Piece of depression machines. I have missed mercedes mehn, can't wait to ge a new one, even though bread ain't rolling in no more like normal. I might wake up one day and decide to burn this shit, I tire.
You haven't changed engine twice yet. So the misfire came back? Deal with it and stop driving through floods. Why do you keep doing that?
shortgun: Suspension, struts, ground clearance, body design, center of mass, aerodynamics e.t.c They are all important determinants of how a vehicle handles in high speeds. Especially breaking and cornering. I believe you have seen accident scenes where vehicles involved veer off the road and end up in a valley, river or heaven Do you think it was the drivers intentions to steer into valleys or a river.
Did you read the part where I said suspension setup affects cornering? Even your alignment will affect your cornering ability. Not everyone on the road knows how to drive.
Eddee: I have receipts for flooring an 09 Corolla. Didn't feel very light, just surprised RPM was at 6k for only 180 - it braked just fine and I used common sense to brake in and accelerate out of corners.
Even my former w211 4matic at 180kph on unstable Nigerian roads will still dance. I just think it's a confidence thing. I drive at speeds of above 160km regularly on my charger and it corners more awfully than a Corolla at the same speed, so na common sense I dey use.
Simple. I guess the charger has more body roll than the corolla or the big engine affects the weight distribution. Simple things yet people make it look so complicated.
Awo95: Hello house , I’m new here . I want to buy a car , toks actually but the dealer said the car color was changed from white to black , when I asked him why , he said black sells more than white so he decided to Change the color . Will you advice i go for such a car ? I’m opened to suggestions
Run a vin check. Check when the car landed in Nigeria. If it's been over 8 months, that's an amber flag. Check if the car has been registered in Nigeria before. Shine your eyes.
shortgun: You can do 200km/h on the cars you mentioned...but while on it, have you bothered to think what will happen if you need to break or steer suddenly to avoid potholes, animals, people or another vehicle? No one is saying your vehicle will lift off the ground and take off like a jet but you will indeed lose steering control and stability.
Another way to test how well your car is grounded is to park beside the highway, a road where vehicles are doing average speed of like 120km. Stay inside the car, you will observe that Ur car will bounce when a vehicle drives past you. How your car bounces when a car or truck drives past where you are parked will tell you how grounded your car is..I've done this with different cars/SUVs and the results are not the same. I invented this test myself ....give it a try and tell us Ur experience.
It is called suspension tuning and setup. It doesn't change the weight of a car at speeds. It does affect how it corners. Corners are not to be taken at excessive speeds. Every vehicle has its limits based o. It's design. But for pure straight line speed, feeling planted doesn't mean shit. Dragsters are the worst handling cars in the world, but they will obliterate any car in a straightline dash and they feel planted.
AmuDimpka: What is uncouth about my response. I made a position on my experience and handling of EOD you came with epistle...if I was uncouth can you point it out bro...I am sorry if I was
But the truth is that ..one of the major reasons that drivers die in accident is not knowing the limitations of their cars... It is like racing Honda EOD with C35 AMG or BMW 3 SERIES I bro don't so that...it is like singing ones Requiem or dirge...please don't do that.
It is like me trying me trying to use ML 4MATIC to race a McLaren Benz or CLK that is grounded with low clearance ...In a sharp bend.. that also would be suicidal.
My dear Honda cars aren't designed for performance but for utility (transportation from point A to B) please don't race BMW, Benz , Fiat even posche or Saab...these are performance cars !
We must always know limitations of our cars to avoid stories that touch later or had I known position
If I was uncouth, I no see where I was , but no vez
EOD v6 will eat your 318 or 320 for breakfast. Don't play with that car. You drove a shitty eod, period. And since you have refused to learn, wallow in your ignorance.
AmuDimpka: Bros all these grammar us uncalled for... I told you that u drove EOD and it was light as a paper you still dey blow big English
It is my experience not yours .... Why drink Panadol for my own headache
Nawa for ndi madu seff
Camry big for nothing. 185 km/hr, did not fly off. Skoda Octavia, 170km/hr. Did not fly off Corolla 04, 180km/hr, did not fly off. Kia cerrato, 160km/hr. Did not fly off Acura mdx, 180 km/hr. Did not fly off. Boeing 747, flew off. U get the drift?
HeavenlyBang: I don't quite agree with you on this. All cars don't have the same stability in speed, and Germans are typically much better than the Japanese are providing that solid, grounded feeling at higher speeds. Most say it's because German cars have to be able to keep up on the Autobahn.
Read my post again. Did you see the part about height and driver seating? I forgot to add suspension setup as well. Feeling isn't reality. Can you answer on his behalf? Does your infinity feel light above 120km/hr? Is it German? The stereotype is becoming boring and beginning to sound unintelligent.
