HeavenlyBang: Nothing best describes luxury than how a car makes you feel.
Years ago, while car shopping, I sat in a C230 Kompressor, then sat in an ES330. I bought the ES330 right after. Sound isolation, quality of materials, how well an interior is put together. Then you factor in quality of life factors like massage features, air conditioning, stereo. That is luxury. Not the fact that a car has a three pointed star.
I bet if asked most people on this forum would say a C300 is more luxurious than a Hyundai Equus. Bros an A class is more luxurious than a Toyota crown just because it was made by Mercedes. Just leave them. Akpowa Mercedes, ndi c class aputa |

HeavenlyBang: Anyway, OP. This is what I've learnt about this car over the past few weeks.
FWD version gets the 280 HP engine from the Accord. Does not require premium, and has better fuel economy. SH-AWD gets Acura's top of the line 300HP+ 3.7L. Absolutely requires premium. Worse fuel economy. But drives a lot better. Different exhaust system too, which is very important to me.
The car is based on the 8th gen Accord. Evil Spirit. But it's not quite an Accord.
Body parts are really expensive. And it has considerably more technology in it than an Accord. This isn't a cheap car to own.
The 3.7L burns oil, due to a piston ring defect. There are also known propeller shaft issues.
The interior is excellent. Acura's Panasonic ELS is widely hailed as one of the best in the business, even till now. Definitely better than the Bose Infiniti uses or the Harman Kardon MB used during that era.
The facelift was 2012. That's the car I'd advice you to look at. Grille was changed to something less obnoxious, transmission was changed to a 6-speed, and Bluetooth Audio was introduced.
It's a reasonably reliable car otherwise. The FWD is the much safer option, SH-AWD is for those who actually enjoy driving for the sake of driving.
Good luck, and keep me updated if you go on with the purchase. Not all engines burned oil. The 2010 - 2012 or so burned oil. My mdx has the same 3.7l j37 engine and doesn't burn a drop between oil changes. I can't remember the exact years that burned oil. Op do your research. Propeller issue wasn't pronounced and was rarely mentioned in the mdxers or TL group I registered to. |

With our crappy fuel, it will be hard to squeeze out all that 309 horses. If you want to enjoy the handling of which it has the best in its category, get the sh-awd version. Fuel economy isn't great. It's quite heavy especially the awd version. If you want to leave heavenlybang in your dust, add a few cans of octane boosters (not injector cleaners ooo), step on the accelerator and watch that car head 0-100 in less than six seconds. That car is a boss on the highway. It uses a timing belt so don't buy cheap when it's time to replace. The maintenance minders will tell you when to replace. You must not use synthetic oil but you must use the correct oil grade. Some model year tl had issues with warped rotor caused by heavy breaking (my mdx has already had that so now I drive gently ). Just take care of her normally and you will be fine. One more thing, if anything makes your check engine light come on, you will lose the awd capability. Car will simply go to front wheel drive mode. Suspension is not that bad. Bad roads hurt every damn car even the fabled hilux. Buy the car and shame a few marque brands on the roads. |

sooperrescue: I once went to Berger to inspect a range rover sport for a client that wanted to buy. We were allowed to start it and scan it but my scanner battery died when I got there. The car was from Germany and they falsified the original car documents to Switzerland. They adjusted the mileage from 282000 to 82000 kilometers. We paid 7m for it but the car was very clean and OK. The mileage was discovered when we used the oem scanner. That said, we have unscrupulous people in every sector. If they allow test drive, then they will employ extra staff with security to accompany the car for the ride. There was in the news of a guy who took a Porsche for a test drive and drove away with the car. That would now be a common story with the junk cars. Even the previous owners can organize to steal it in the guise of test driving it. They also have a policy of bringing your own mechanic to inspect the car on your behalf. Let's move on and encourage others to come up with a better solution of taking care of our junk naija used cars off our roads. Well, I hope they come up with a plan or do something to salvage their reputation. It's not looking very good out there. |

E Pa, I know your story with them. But don't defend something you cannot justify. If they bought an LR3 for N250K, fixed for 500K (car is in good condtion) and sold for N1.2M. Nobody will open a thread to complain...
If nobody knows you at least know what I do with these cars....!
If dey are at loss, they should ask questions, maybe they should open a demolition yard. I will patronize them.
I swear, if the open a junk yard, I go line up first. However, ive seen one of the cars they put up for sale on the road now doing quite alright. I don't know how much the new owner invested in it but car looks alright. Not smoking and gear shifts sounds quite alright. Some people may get lucky but seems like most get the wrong end of the stick. I think test drives will go a long way in solving a lot of their problems. |

Kingsdave: Thanks sir... How many litres will I use , also tell me what is to be done at the mechanics , you know gear is delicate issue... Like how many hours will the car cool off before the mechanic commences ATF change For no of litres, I don't know. It's usually about 4 litres. That gearbox has a dipstick, use it to check. Download the manual and follow the quantity stated there. For the mechanic side, do not allow him wash your filter. It's either he replaces it or let it be. I don't know if the trans fluid should be drained when it's hot or cold but to be on the safe side, allow things to cool down and then drain. Make sure the surrounding area is clean and mechanic doesn't get debris into your transmission. Get him a clean funnel. Many a transmission have been killed by sand particles falling into the filling hole. It gets the solenoids stuck later on or causes other issues. Infact consider this a surgical operation. Keep all contaminants out at all cost. Make sure the drain bolt is also clean before being reused. Don't allow him to just swipe it on his coverall and still in back in there with all the lose sand it gather from where it fell. |

But what would you say about the gearbox wahala? I hope it isn't true either? The transmission on the rx330 is sturdy. I've got a lot of friends who use it and have nothing but praise for it. The only person I know who had issues with was bacuase of an engine overheat which he caused by himself by not closing his coolant cover. Gasket was replaced and car is back on the road. As per being rugged. It's not a land cruiser and neither is it a hilux but it will get you out of some pretty tough situations if equipped with awd. |

Now this depends on the engine, powerband, and gearing. I have a car with over 300hp, and I can be doing 120km/hr at just about 2200 rpm. You got the Acura? |

jonaifame22: good morning sir, pls I'm buying a Honda city after the corona virus lockdown for the purpose of uber, pls is the 07 good enough, and also are the 09/10 city more durable than the 07 thank you sir It's a good car. However, you are buying a 13 year old Nigerian used car. A lot of things could be wrong. Go with a very good technician to inspect for the following: 1. Transmission. This is the weakest link in this car. It's very finicky (I hear it's about 80k to replace it too so it's cheap) . 2. Rust. The body rusts like no man's business. 3. Accidents. The body panels don't really do well even with small impacts. They deform quite easily and develop odd shapes. It uses a timing chain for the engine so if the previous owners have been using cheap oil, you might be in for a surprise further down the line. Apart from this challenge, the engine is usually bullet proof. Mine is still running and doing quite well. Should be undergoing painting soon. Only things I have replaced in mine are sensors for the transmission, AC compressor (several) Suspension parts and ignition coils. Every other thing is stock. |

olumzzz: From responses here, i wanna learn how to drift. I guess that's the best way of maintaining high speed through bends. Been using the "brake in and accelerate out" as mentioned by 9icetoo but its now boring. Brake in and blast out is a lot safer. Can't be boring if you are on the edge. If you brake too early, you lose momentum, if you brake too late, you end up in the bush or somewhere undesirable. Drifting is borderline loss of control. On a highway with unexpected potholes and oncoming vehicles, that's banging on the grim reapers door. |
