Thanks for your advice. I barely drive around in Lagos. I just need a change of car and I want something that won't bore me in d next 5 years. My initial fear was the gist that V6 sedans usually develop gear problems.
Who told you that nonsense?
Both are nice cars. Since your commute is mostly in Lagos which is prone to floods, get the MDX.

Personally, I like the es350, it was my preferred car before I stumbled on the MDX. Still have a soft spot for it.

Step 3 – choosing your car.

Car TalkRe: Acura MDX 2009 Or Lexus ES350 2009 by 9icetoo(m): 6:38pm On Jul 28, 2020
Let me ask you a few questions?
1. Do you travel often (interstate)
2. Do you travel alone or you travel with family and if yes how many?
3. Do you carry a lot of baggage when you travel?
4. Is fuel economy a major concern to you? Can you spend 10k just to cover 280 miles? Or you prefer to spend 10k and cover 350 miles?
5. What is your budget for maintenance per year (oil, belt, brake pads etc?)

If yes to 1, get the MDX.
If yes to 2 and above four family members, get the MDX.
If yes to 3, get the MDX.
If yes to 4 but no to 3, and 2, get the Lexus.
It costs more to maintain the Acura than to maintain the es350. You have the timing belt with all the attendant rollers and water pump, the regular engine oil, transmission oil every 30k miles, differential fluid every 30k miles, transfer case fluid every 30k miles and coolant (don't know the interval now).
So on these few points of mine, you can make a choice.
Car TalkRe: 2012 BMW X6, Range Rover Evoque, Lexus RX 350 Or Acura Zdx. Which Do I Go For? by 9icetoo(m): 6:28pm On Jul 28, 2020
HeavenlyBang:
Sounds like an issue specific to that particular car. Never heard of it anywhere else. Same transmission on the MDX.

Cc: 9icetoo
Yep. The owner bought an abused zdx or better still his mechanic has 'serviced' it for him with dexion 111.
I've only come across one fellow who had an issue with his MDX transmission and yet again, it was a case of wrong fluid.

My MDX has over 178k miles. Kicks like a mule when required.

The transmission on the zdx and MDX are quite bullet proof as long as you drain and refill the oil every 30k miles or when the service minder comes up.
Most Nigerians don't even drive 30k miles in 5 years. cheesy

I think op wants a car that will attract a lot of attention and then the Evoque will be nice. About power I don't think anyone can pull up more than 180 km/hr on the average Nigerian road. So the Evoque goes well as for the eco stuff you guys mentioned being a bit messy, well I'm not a car engine savvy person so maybe that'll be a bad idea. The ZDX is manly though grin
180km/hr? Oga, speak for yourself oo. There are people here who that is their starting point.
That said, the zdx has good looks.
Car TalkRe: Lexus RX 350 - Please I Need To Be Enlightened On Buying by 9icetoo(m): 6:21pm On Jul 28, 2020
CarGuideNG:
There are lots of 08 - 09 RX 350s already imported. Some may not meet your specifications or requirements, but some definitely would. The 2nd gen RX is not really a rare vehicle, so importing one may not really be practical or necessary at the moment.

The best way to learn about a vehicle is online research. Read reviews by established websites and sources, etc. Look up similar models for sale on such websites to learn about the features and specifications.

"Full option" typically refers to a particular vehicle which has all the available or possible or desirable features and specifications the manufacturer installed for that model. For the RX 350, that includes 4WD, Navigation and reverse cameras, etc.

First, keep in mind that the mileage you may see on the odometers of vehicles for sale may not be genuine and may have been altered. The only reliable way to determine the genuine mileage is to run a VIN check.
The VIN check would also be necessary to rule out other forms of damage the vehicle may have sustained.

That figure may be below the range for a clean title vehicle with that genuine mileage.
Op heed this advise and that of gazzuzz.
50k miles clean title 08/09 rx350 with custom duty, e go hard small oo.
Exchange rate isnt funny. People who are selling now cant even afford to restock because of the crazy auction prices on iaai and copart currently.

Seek a dealer(s) out, go through his stock, pay any of the people here who engage in pre purchase inspection. Nothing beats buying what you can see or can be inspected physically.

I know that. The paddle shifters use an electronic system to 'achieve' the gear shifts. It may be simulated but it's there.

Acuras and infinitis have it really bad. I couldn't rev more than 3k rpm yesterday cause my acura pinged so badly. I used to add octane booster to every tank of fuel to stop the pings. However when I found out that the MMT in those boosters will harm my engine and cat, I stopped using them. It was awful. I drove like a granny throughout my journey yesterday. Mpg and performance really suffered. Imagine getting 16mpg on a highway and not being able to go past 3k rpm.
Just an update on this thread. cheesy
The pings are gone. grin
Happy days. Travelled with the car recently (over 900 miles) round trip and not one ping.
I suspect my pistons had carbon on them and previous highway trips with octane boosters and a few Italian tune ups (make that a lot) had burnt out the carbon.
I suspected this was the case because a few times in lag, I'd occasionally rev my engine during spirited driving and won't notice any ping.
I put the hammer down a few times on the trip (car fully loaded) even when going uphill on the Benin bypass and nothing. No pings.
The good days are here. cheesy

As far back as 2010 I have driven Audi S6 with paddle shift, didn't use it anyway who paddle shift eepp
2007 honda city vtec has paddle shifters.
Used it about twice since I owned the vehicle.
Not really interested in the feature. Didn't buy an automatic to continue stressing my hands and brain.
I let the auto do its thing.
But that 2015 corolla is everywhere in Lagos na Nurey. I saw more than 10 yesterday and I was just in my neighbourhood.

Errrrrr. You go need patience oooo.

One thing you should know is that your brother is now married and is firstly responsible to his wife and kids before any other person so him allowing three extended family to stay in this hard times is an act of kindness and bravery please don't add more stress to his life by bickering with your in-laws. We women are troublesome by nature then when we see someone who has our time we extend the trouble. The truth is
1. There is no way the room would have been left for you while there are women in the house (they need privacy).
2. Why will you say that you will go to the village? Don't you know you give your brother some kind of security in the midst of his wife and her obviously troublesome sisters by staying with him? Has he asked you to leave yet?
3. You where wrong to slap the young woman, no matter what the grieviance is you don't touch a woman.
4. They where wrong to throw your mattress out but please forgive them and move on. Thank God your brother made provisions for a replacement.
5. Take this place as a training ground for your future, if it's anything you should be bothered about now, is to be more determined about gaining independence and making it in life.
6. Leave rofo rofo fight for women, in fact ignore them totally for your national peace.
7. Hustle!!! Hustle!!! Hustle oooooo!!!!

Hugs.
OP, take this advice. I couldn't have said it better.
Ignore them and to make matters worse, pally with them self. Their conscience will do a number on them.

Car TalkRe: How Is 2009 Toyota Highlander 4L Underpowered? by 9icetoo(m): 6:31pm On Jul 13, 2020
OP, you see those hiace buses with numerous passengers and cargo, they are powered by a 4 cylinder engine.
It's not underpowered for basic use. Abi u want to pull an 18 wheeler with it?
Granted, on steep gradients and fully loaded, 6 cylinder variants will pass you effortlessly but that is obtainable in any car as well.

What do you intend to use the highlander for?
Haul 50kg cement bags, bags of rice from the village to city?
It will get it done but don't expect to climb Benin hill doing speeds of 140+.
Youd only be able to do that with a 6 cylinder power train.

That's why i used the word "most". I never said it's everybody. And I don't have to drive thousands of cars to verify somethings. Like the engine light Issue, just drive around at night and you'll see that the engine light is on in almost all the cars you look into. Same with tyres, you can easily check those.
The check engine light being on doesn't mean Nigerians think that's how it should be.
Some of us know it shouldn't be on.
Some cars have the emergency brake lights on too. Does that also mean we all think it's alright for it to be on?
Your sister stated her opinion and which is to the best of her knowledge.

A lot of cars on the roads today don't the engine warning lights on.
At least none of mine. Sometimes these lights are on for a flimsy reason eg cat code or egr or downstream 02 sensor and the owners knowingly ignore them.

We have people here who don't have a single warning light on their dash.

That's totally different from road rage.

Road rage is simply anger at what another road user has done and an action you took.

Racing is different.

As I do remember too ( don’t know if this counts as road rage sha). In a hold up in town, one guy was trying to prove being a smart driver by pulling his very neat Honda civic hatchback (Hausa boys likes keeping their small cars extremely neat in and out, like it was a cult or something back then) into the little space by my side trying to force me to give way for him. [Unknowing to him, it was that same day I had paid for panelbeating and painting of my car as my guys do borrow my car a lot those days and the car is becoming too rough for my liking due to the scratches on the car and I had was driving the car home because I hate the level of discomfort in public transport so the panelbeater can come pick up the car the following day]. I knew I was supposed to stop for the guy but he just threw his face the other way feigning ignorance as if he didn’t do anything, I refused to give up my space and I felt it immediately our cars touched and he looked at me, I just threw my face the other side too and scratched the whole length of his car for the few meters I had space in front of me while grinning ear to ear grin grin. The guy jumped out of his car very surprised to survey the damage while saying ’Guy nawa oh, you for give me chance naa’. I just throwey face. I hate people who claim like say na them smart pass.

Sometimes, some people just piss you off.
Last year en-route to ebonyi, I overtook a Honda baby boy. The driver for some reason decided he was having none of it and decided to run me off the road. There was no pothole, there was no on coming traffic. It was just sheer wickedness. I was carrying my family. I was mad. If I had not anticipated his moves, I'd have ended up in the bush.
I recovered, gunned it and crossed him at a police check point.

I was deflated when I realised it was a middle aged man.
I rained curses on him.
The policemen settled the matter and we went on our merry way or so I thought.
This dude started tailing me. grin
I made a few calls and led him towards the police station. When I slowed down to spring the trap, he realised his folly, reversed and disappeared.
grin
He got lucky. Lane violation makes me mad and Nigerians are so freaking fond of it. They just can't maintain lanes. sad

is there anyway to confirm the function of this pump?
Which of the pumps was replaced?
The high pressure fuel pump on the camshaft or the fuel pump in the fuel tank?
I don't know how to test the high pressure fuel pump.
When a friends own had issues, we discovered by wiggling the wires while revved the car. Any time the pins made contact, the car revved well. We replaced the socket. And all was well. Again, there was a code from my scanner that led us there.

Scan again.
Meanwhile, check the high pressure fuel pump on the engine. Ensure the plug is snug and the pins are not bent.
If that pump isn't working well, the engine displays this symptom you are facing.
