ScamHunter:Two things can both be correct at the same time. GEJ and Buhari are both bad for the country. I don't get why people like you are so bent on forcing that daft man on everybody. |
Moddam:Yoruba = 7 majority states + 1 significantly populated state (Kogi). Igbo = 5 majority states + 2 significantly populated states (Delta and Rivers). Even if we don't count Lagos, Ibadan is still larger than any Igbo city by far. |
In other countries, it's the people who choose their preferred presidential aspirant in primaries and elect that person in the general election. In Nigeria, the previous president and his cronies choose the next president after collecting bribe and gifts. This is clearly not a democracy, but an oligarch state ruled by a select few with money. |
This is why I don't support corporal punishment. |
nku5:What part of the south does not have ritual killings? That's a problem you will see from Oyo to Edo to Anambra. Killing in the name of political insurgency is something you see in the North, but now also includes the SE. Many like that guy will not admit to a problem and will rather point fingers at other regions to deflect. If you cannot admit there is a problem, then the problem will continue to get worse. |
Sltp:Ask yourself this. How many times do you hear in the news about an outbreak of an 'unknown' disease in a random community? Nigeria and Africa as well as SE Asia are ground zero for zoonotic diseases. How many advice posts do you need to see about people asking about their 'unknown' disease, rash or skin lesions before you are convinced? |
Naija8240:I hate that people are pushing this narrative. Go beyond Nigeria and you will see that muslims in other countries like Senegal, Gambia and Sierra Leone are more peaceful than Northern muslims despite being the majority. All those countries are also largely secular and pro-western education. Ask yourself why Nigeria is the only non-secular state with shariah law and two constitutions in ECOWAS? |
Do they mean religious riots because protest is a legal right? Let’s say they are banning religious riots, do these yeye people in charge seriously think they can curtail a riot by just banning it. E be like say banning armed robbery and armed robbery dey comot for the country the next day. Kaduna state government know they are powerless based on their own track record of mishandling previous riots in the state. They clearly have not learned from the past. |
Muslims with common sense including those governors and so-called leaders in the North should be condemning the attacks. Maybe they’ll realize that not investing in education, using religion as food for the poor and purposely keeping their population in darkness all these years will only create an increasingly violent population of religious extremists that is hard to control even for them. Many of the ones like Atiku are scared to come out because they fear for their lives and may lose the support of their fanatic base. Northern elites clearly have a lot to lose if Nigeria is divided because much of their own personal wealth is held in the southern cities and many of them have stakes in natural resources. But the Sahel republic with millions of terrorists and uneducated terrorist sympathizers will be all they are left with due to the fault of their own. Even Niger republic is more advanced than the core North because it is a secular country with no death by blasphemy laws. |
Rexymania:Well you are not a fundamentalist that’s why. All you have to be is a decent human being to see the issue at hand. The problem is the North is plagued with too many fanatics and extremists. |
The stupid poster that said that she should have been trialed instead of killed is also part of the problem. Like trialed for blasphemy in this supposed secular country in 21st century? And you have shariah law peddlers saying it’s only applicable to muslims in an attempt to create a false sense of reassurance for non-muslims. No wonder boko haram has a steady flow of recruits when most of the population have the same backward mindset. The same Boko haram sympathizers will then come around and say that they too are victims of terrorism. Make that make sense. |
seunny4lif:How do you think those Russian speakers got there in the first place? Soviet-era displacement and deportation policies is why you have Russians in every nook and cranny in the former Soviet countries. For instance in Crimea, the Soviets forcibly deported most of the native Crimean Tatars to Central Asia resulting in the deaths of many. They then brought in Russian-speaking settlers to settle after ethnically cleansing the area. I hope you know East Ukraine is still a majority Ukrainian ethnically at about 60% or so. So don't compare the Donbas secessionist movements with Odua republic. It would be like Igbo people moved to Lagos and eventually make up 40% of the population and then start to carve out a republic of their own. This is essentially what you are justifying. Lastly the Syrian civil war is an extremely complicated war with no good side. The rebels have extremists among their midst and the Syrian government used sarin gas to kill civilians. Russia is wrong for supporting Assad just as USA is wrong for backing the rebels (with the exception of the Kurds). |
olarent:I'll have you know that I understand how economy works very well. So many are longing to see the price of the dollar fall so badly that you are willing to overstate the facts. You forget how how the dollar hegemony works in the first place? The US commands that hegemony quite simply because it's the largest economy in the world which is reinforced by its wealthy allies who have no problems continuing paying in dollars. On the global stage, the US has 700+ international military bases which far exceeds that of any other nation. Not to mention, its weapons manufacturers are responsible for nearly 40% of exported global arms. With that power over the security of MANY nations, it can definitely command trade by the dollar. You can clearly see that Russia is flexing whatever power it has, which is its abundant gas supply having the largest reserve of gas and the 2nd largest world producer. Russia is too weak of an economy (in relative terms) to challenge the hegemony of the dollar. Long gone are the days of the USSR, when it was the second largest market competing with the US back in the 70s. Today Russia doesn't even crack the top 10 largest economies in the world. Russia sees the writing on the wall that the slow-acting sanctions imposed could have worsening longterm effect, which is why it's rushing to bolster its currency against sanctions. Yes, China could challenge that hegemony in the future (10-20 yrs time), but for now China has to walk a fine line because it is most tied economically to the US. The US has more friends than China, which is why China is trying to build its allies especially in Africa. This is why I think the numerous African nations will have a bigger impact in said hegemony in the future. |
The sanctions must be hitting them hard if they have to demand payment in rubles. |
Avoid going through Libya at all cost. |
The desperation for white validation. mtschew!! |
WATCHOVER:Lol NATO NEVER signed an agreement with Russia. If Russia did not invade Ukraine in the first place, Finland won't feel the need to want to join NATO. Finland was not a pro NATO country..... well until recently when Russia invaded Ukraine. So you see, Putin fanboys like yourself will never put things into perspective. |
ArewaTech1:If we start jailing people who cause deep pain by insults, most people would be in prison. If I remember correctly when the Charlie Hebdo cartoon situation happened, a bunch of mobs In the North went on a rampage of killing over an act in another country thousands of miles away from Nigeria. That violent behaviour stems from the same ideology of intolerance. If someone insults you, you deal with it by insulting them back or walking away, not jailing them for 14 years or targeting innocent people. That’s clearly a cowardice move and you are suggesting your belief cannot withstand criticisms or insults. |
Number 8 is definitely a good thing, because healthcare should be subsidized so that people can afford it. I would add electricity, security and corruption to that list. 11. Upgrade the national grid to distribute more power and reduce outages. 12. Provide adequate funding for the military and police to tackle crime. 13. Reduce pay of lawmakers and politicians. It's ridiculous that each senator currently earns more money each than the president of America. Increase transparency so that the people know where the funds are going. Create a better system of checks and balances so that salary and wages are paid accordingly in a timely manner. Hold more people accountable for bribery and corruption. |
Not just the skits too, but also nollywood of today as well. A lot of sex and perversion and not enough talent or substance. |
ArewaTech1:Any act or law that is passed by the national assembly in Nigeria has to fall in line with what's dictated by the constitution. This act violates the clause in the constitution about freedom of expression. Not that it matters at the end of the day because Nigeria is a lawless country where the rule books don't mean much. 2. If people of the traditional beliefs consider what Imams & Pastors are doing as publicly insulting to their beliefs and religion, well, they are welcome to go to the court. You and I know that most people are biased against traditional worshipers. What you say is unlikely to happen as they practically have little power in society. 3. There's a difference between criticizing and insulting. The two are not mutually exclusive and the line between them is blurred partly due to how different people perceive insult vs criticism. This is just religious intolerance. Insult should not be a crime in a civilized society. |
ArewaTech1:Lol you can be jailed for insulting a religion yet adherents of the dominant faiths insult traditional beliefs all the time. Every imam and pastor would be imprisoned by that standard. It takes a certain level of weakness to want to lock away someone that criticizes your belief. |
Nigeria currently generates MORE electricity than it can DISTRIBUTE due to outdated power grid which is why It exports its surplus electricity to neighboring countries. Talk about a conundrum. |
Kazeem47:Ask yourself this does that creature look like something that should be in your body? People like you willing to eat everything under the sun creating a public health emergency for the rest of us who are minding our own business. |
tsdarkside:So e dey pain you like this sha? So sorry! A grown man acting like a toddler. I will not respond to your wailing no more. You are going to need those cards so you can read yourself to sleep at night. |
24brains:I say this and I say it for everybody. By now, everyone knows he was a comedian elected into office since you Putin fanboys love to remind us about that every chance you get. That deflection tactic is no longer working. |
Kpatakpata:We don’t even give a damn about our own people. How do we expect others from other countries to care MORE than we do? It cannot work. |
Ammishaddai:So you see something like that and CHOSE not to believe that and instead take the side of the oppressor. This is the same way people see violence in Nigeria, but take the side of the criminals and oppressors enabling it. The same mindset at the end of the day. I won’t be surprised if you’ve supported people like Abacha. |
tsdarkside:And why exactly would I do that lol?? You think I don’t know that who we are or the attitudes of most Nigerians?? We are not Ukrainian so if they want to fight and defend their land, why should I or you in particular care so much?? Why get yourself tired over someone thousands of miles away?? See that’s what I don’t understand from people like you. |
tsdarkside:Yes I know that the west is very hypocritical. I’m just saying this news is a lie. US is not buying Russian oil as of now. The last shipments left a month ago. A lie is still a lie at the end of the day. |
greymiles:If we are going to talk about brainwashing. Over half of Nigerians are brainwashed and live in a mental prison. I find it amusing to suggest people that are fighting an invasion by a foreign country are brainwashed. |
Shoodboi:You fall too hard for propaganda. Global times is a propaganda mouthpiece for the chinese government. I knew it was a lie when I couldn’t corroborate the info from other news source. |
