TruthinAction:
They should publish the list local government by local government on each state newspaper so people can check if their names are there. Those whose names are not there and feel they are poor should be given a fresh opportunity to capture their names.
There are people in the Register who do not receive money...
Because the criteria for actually receiving transfers is the poorest of the poor, not just the poor.

That's also why some politicians misguidedly complain that registered people in their state/LGA/clan are not getting paid...
Some SIP funds are from the World Bank's IDA facility and Abacha Loot, the WB (backed by the countries releasing the Loot) have an input in criteria.

Look at the number of household from Zamfara, Kano, Katsina and Kebbi.

Then compare with Lagos.

If this list isn't a fake, then whoever is in charge should be made to explain how they come about this.

This is highly provocative and unacceptable. There are poor people everywhere.

A whole Lagos state with over 20 million people, they gave 52,000 only

Chai!

The whole of south west is less than one northern state, e.g compare Jigawa with the sum total of the whole south west.

We were played in 2015 by these northerners.

See Ibadan with a lot of poor people is 90k. Haba
lexy2014:

Nigeria cannot support all of its poor citizens...
The SIP program is only for the POOREST of the poor!

Nigeria is caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea-crooked NASS members and crooked executives. Either way the Nigerian masses are the ones on the losing end.
If an audit is conducted b a reputable firm on the funds budgeted for NSIP were handled, it will be one of the biggest corruption scandals even by Nigerian standards.
A forensic audit would definitely be useful...

I am no fan of Bubu's administration, but fortunately I actually watched the program...
And my impression was that the NASS were trying to get their grubby hands on the funds and share it among their relatives and thugs.

The NASS can get access to official lists/information that we cannot, so that bit was just crass political grandstanding..
What Mrs. Uwais objected to was merely the notion of publishing the list or otherwise making it public in contravention of the FOI Act.

Rather rich to hear the NASS blabber on about 'transparency'....
When they refuse to publish details of their own budget or the wages/remuneration of their members, despite repeated FOI Act requests.

Whatever shortcomings of the SIP program in a data-poor Nigeria...
It should never be allowed to become simply another version of the "constituency projects" scam, a funnel for NASS members.

Do you need me to... I say I no wan talk but you wan drag me out. Abegiii...
Perhaps your grandparents and parents should go ask for free food then... grin grin grin
But if you are dodging paying taxes, you should not expect the government to give you free food paid for with my tax Naira.

In the US, they say that the only certainty in life is death and taxes (and of course the US taxes its citizens on their worldwide income, so Americans in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world still pay US taxes). Meanwhile, in Nigeria, if we are brutally honest with ourselves, we would acknowledge that only Nigerians under the PAYE payroll or other withholding tax regime dutifully (even if reluctantly) pay their taxes timely and in full.

Taxes are the obligation of citizenship (or residency). It is what gives you a voice and the moral right to make financial demands on government. In other words, it is the financial part of that vaunted social contract between the government and the governed. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, the oil windfall (that until relatively recently was produced by foreigners) has caused the government to become un-accountable to the citizenry since it does not rely on tax revenue paid by citizens, and has similarly caused the citizens to demand public services without bothering to pay for it.

Frankly, Nigerian tax dodgers are just as societally immoral as the government they criticize. Furthermore, they are effectively “stealing” from those of us who pay taxes whenever they access public services paid for by our taxes.

Exactly my thoughts. What is the relationship between sepsis and covid 19?
It’s a new virus...
So we do not really know what really kills all of it victims.

In COVID cases where the infected person also has an underlying or other serious health condition, there’s not been enough studies to determine if it’s the pre-existing condition that’s exacerbated and kills them, or if Covid-19 would have killed them independently.

Nonetheless, it's generally better to over-count than to under-count.

I think we actually need to carryout enough test so we can know what we are dealing with. I pray our case wont be like that of Ecuador that couldnt test enough people before they start droping dead with no morgue to accomodate the dead other than to put them by the roadside for days. God help us
How does what you wrote undermine my point that I do not think that the NCDC is "hiding" the numbers being tested? shocked

Then the symptoms are of malaria, just thank God, see if it were corona virus and you just self isolate at home without appropriate treatment.
Then I wonder what would have happened to you.
It would still probably no different (eg, that's what CNN's Chris Cuomo is doing)...
You have to remember that over 80% of positive cases will show only mild symptoms or NONE at all.

This would suggest that the situation isn’t so bad, but not testing people with symptoms who have no travel history and no connection to confirmed cases can achieve the same effect. Contacts of confirmed cases are way less likely to test positive than people with symptoms. I am cautiously optimistic that true situation is not disastrous, but just very bad.
People with Covid-type symptoms are supposed to be tested regardless of travel history or contact with positive cases. The issue that I suspect many are having is that they don't understand what the symptoms are, and thus are disappointed when after listening to their symptoms the NCDC staff do not rush down to take their samples, but rather counsel them to wait for other symptoms. Otherwise, every cold or sneeze would require testing.

Presently in ofa in kwara state a professor of medicine according to the people staying there confirmed that the professor was treated a UK returned that happened to die of coronavirus and some Alfa when in to do the normal Muslim rite on the burial.
The neighboring company like erinla in kwara state have block there boundaries not to allow someone from ofa in kwara state to past down to there community and likewise oyan in odo otin local government. Is well with Nigeria oooo
Not every contact will contract the virus...
The Italian index case in Lagos had 179 traced contacts but only 1 tested positive.

Furthermore, not every infected person will develop symptoms...
For example, that 1 Italian trace contact never developed symptoms.

Covid-19 spreads rapidly but it is not a death sentence...
Thus far, over 80% of positives will show mild symptoms or NONE at all.

That is why we should ALL act as if we are positive...
And persist with good hygiene, isolation and social distancing.

We must prepare for the worst...
While working and hoping for the best. Good luck to us all.

If Seyi Makinde & Bala Mohammed were ordinary citizens, they may never have known they once had the virus... smiley
It’s was an entirety imported virus...
So it made sense, in the case of limited resources, to prioritize testing the segment of the population likely to bring it in.

The 127 returnees from CIV (who came in through the land border) are so-called “ordinary citizens” but were nonetheless tested.

Investnow2017:
That is the point. Now see what I found:

The approach recommended is Test, Test, Test

Here are the test performances of a few countries as at 10th April:

US - 2,500,000
Russia - 1,010,000
Germany - 1,317,000
France - 330,000
Spain - 355,000
Nigeria - 5,000
Italy - 807,000
Brazil - 54,000
Vietnam - 118,000
UK - 282,000
S.Korea - 500,000
Australia - 338,000
UAE - 593,000
Canada - 348,000
Israel - 120,000
Turkey - 250,000
Belgium - 84,000
Switzerland - 171,000
Venezuela - 217,000

Now compare Nigeria 5,000 tests against reported contacts of over 10,000 and a population of 200m and see the percentage in relation to other countries above.

Are we doing enough tests? Even Niger Republic has done close to 5,000 tests!
I am still baffled as to the point you are struggling to make... huh

My point is that if Nigeria had been (eg) testing 100 new persons daily and the number of new positive cases were in the 10-20 range, if when it starts testing (eg) 200-300 persons daily and the number of new positives remains in the 10-20 (or even goes up to 15-25-30 range), then the RATE of new cases (as determined by the PERCENTAGE of positives) would have actually slowed - and that’s a good thing.

The point should be succinct and CLEAR enough. No need to drag irrelevant comparisons into that limited point.

What do you know about vaccine development and human trials? Please take your time to research on the subject before making inflammatory comments. Currently, human trials are going on in the US for a vaccine candidate Animal trials also in Australia for a different candidate.
Not with the same speed as China though...
Although that may not necessarily be such a bad thing.

Nonetheless, China had Phase 1 human trials (108 persons) in March...

If the KPI is achievable then they can increase their capacity nationwide. But a situation where some who present themselves for the test are turned away only because they do not have travel history is, to me, not a wise course. Is finance a factor here since they said it costs N10k per test?

You know what I still believe we are not doing enough testing. If you have been following the statistics coming from South America you would have noticed a tremendous increase in confirmed cases only because they have increased their testing capacity.

Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile etc are all climbing.

When I hear somebody talking about peak in Nigeria I just can only laugh. I think that subject is too early to come to the fore for now.
Obviously, the more people you test the more likely to turn up positive cases...
It’s been that way across the world, no reason to think it would be different with Nigeria.

The limited being made though is...
If you are testing more people but the RATE (not number) of positives is lower, that’s a good thing.
