Nigeria is probably the only place in the world that a political officeholder actually videotaped stuffing bribe money into his pockets - on several different occasions - will not only be left to continue presiding over the affairs of other citizens, but would get re-elected (or rigged in), and have the chutzpah to dismiss and seek to banish (in a supposed democracy in the 21st century) someone, and still receive applause and support.

WHAT A PRIMITIVE ZOO! angry

This what happens to bread winners of a family. Mr Dozie couldn't satisfy the needs of everyone in his family and so when the young guy died, the ungrateful sister needed to indict Mr. Dozie.
She refused to acknowledge the fact that the deceased had lived with that same "wicked" man for 16 years
OROSUNBOLB:
Spot on! This is one of the reasons why some people ,like my humble self, don't usually want to have anything to do with these extended family members. Now they want to pin the unfortunate death of that young man on his benefactor, the same man that had taken care of him for over thirteen years ! Aye le o !

Before you repost more unintelligible gibberish...
As we have now understood your limited capacity for basic comprehension.

Nigeria reportedly has a nominal (theoretical) installed generation capacity of 13.5K MW of on-grid power, but it only have a generating capacity of about 7K MW of readily-evacuatable on-grid power. Further, Nigeria reportedly has a nominal transmission capacity of about 5-6K MW of on-grid power but has on average only been able to transmit in the region of 3-4K MW of power. Meanwhile, the DISCOs are usually able to take on average about 2-3K MW (the highest-ever reportedly being about 4K) from the transmission company (TCN). Accordingly, SELLING power to our neighbors is not why we do not have enough to go around domestically.

But know what we need to invest in needed generation, transmission and distribution upgrade badly needed in Nigeria: HARD CURRENCY!

These agreements were made in the 1970s and 1980s when Nigeria had only 1 thermal and more than half of our power came from Kainji...
Accordingly, it is not rational to bemoan that we are supplying electricity to our neighbors without first satisfying our own domestic demand.

Furthermore, as I noted, these payments are made in HARD CURRENCY (and likely at more commercial rates than Nigerian domestic tariffs).

seedorfg:
Imagine even we that give electricity don't have not to talk of stable power.
These neighboring countries pay for the electricity that they get from us in HARD CURRENCY (and probably at more commercial rates), which is probably why they are struggling to pay. But, over the years, they have ultimately settled their respective bills (albeit sometimes only after we threaten to disrupt supply and/or cut them off).

Nonetheless, this arrangement is not a charitable one but rather strategic. It is basically an agreement by Nigeria to supply electricity to some of these neighbors in exchange for an agreement by them not to dam the River Niger upstream, which would adversely affect some of our hydro plants (at a time that Kainji was our main source of electric power).

Personally, I am all for keeping these arrangements going. Nigeria has more than enough energy resources to not only fully electrify itself but to export electricity, thereby further diversifying our sources of revenue and earning more forex.

It is NOT a “service”....
But an economic GOOD that costs lots of money to generate, transmit and distribute.

Until Nigerians quit seeing electricity as something owed to them and start paying for it, we will remain doomed to darkness...
Irony is that folks who do not want to pay cost-reflective tariffs to DISCOs will freely spend LOTS MORE money on gens and diesel. Penny wise.

One of our problem is distribution facility. The DF we have are in shambles hence most time Discos reject from Gencos. If Discos are serious they should look into their distribution facilities so they can take more from Gencos and thereby making more profit
If NERC allowed them to charge cost-reflective tariffs, and frankly so many people stop stealing electricity, and the government MDAs and the military, police and uniformed services pay their bills, then perhaps the DISCOs will have the resources to invest (or the balance sheet to secure debt capital) to upgrade their distribution facilities. Even the local akara seller doesn’t sell her akara for less than the beans and oil cost.

There are many ways to generate electricity. In Nigeria we generate our electricity majorly using thermal and hydro.

Thermal Power Plants across the nation are more than hydro power plants and the aggregate power output generated is more than hydro power plants. So we don't have much problem. We supply them based on business purposes. To build a power plant for a nation comes with high cost so these small countries have to look for a way to buy at cheaper rate from another country.
These agreements have reportedly been in place since the 1970s and 1980s, before Nigeria started building a lot of thermal plants...
