kayusely70: Economic Saboteur ednut1: These guys should be shot on site zicoraads: Instead of us to condemn the act wholeheartedly, we want to fill the thread with our bigotry. mechanics: He's part of them that made FG close the borders. grandstar: The subsidy should simply be removed and then deregulate the price. After that, if they like, let them smuggle it across the border, nothing spoil. The ONLY reason fuel is smuggled from Nigeria to neighboring countries is because of the DUMB AND CORRUPT so-called “subsidy” policy! Accordingly, those who really should be “shot on site (sic)” are those in government still ensuring the fvckery that one of the world’s leading producers of crude oil is not only still importing fuel almost 70 years after the first local discovery, but uses BILLIONS of dollars (which would’ve been better invested in education, healthcare, rails, roads, agriculture, electricity, etc) to subsidize such DUMB importation. The joke of the subsidy policy is that Diesel used to power generators by manufacturers (and virtually every other Nigerian business), hospitals, etc., and used by long-haul cargo truckers and other logistics providers to move goods/food across Nigeria, and even used by big buses to ferry passengers across Nigeria is NOT SUBSIDIZED! Aviation fuel used by aircraft to fly passengers and cargo throughout Nigeria (and even by air ambulances) is NOT SUBSIDIZED, and Kerosene used by the middle-class/lower class and several small businesses, is NOT SUBSIDIZED! So, effectively, the so-called subsidy regime de facto merely serves to “subsidize” FOREIGN JOBS in foreign refineries, foreign shipping companies, foreign insurance companies, foreign ports, etc., as well as primarily the federal, state and local governments (including the legislative and judicial arms thereof) which collectively own the LARGEST fleet of passenger vehicles in Nigeria (and a relatively small percentage of higher-income Nigerians fortunate enough to own private cars). Meanwhile, the “subsidized” prices in Nigeria not only incentivizes smuggling but also has ensured that no commercially-rational domestic or foreign investor would invest in the petroleum refining sector, thereby robbing Nigeria of THOUSANDS of domestic jobs along the entire products value chain. That’s why at every opportunity the Dangote Group emphasizes that its Lekki Refinery will not sell its products at the government-subsidized prices, but rather at international market prices. Shame not everyone has the clout of the Dangote Group. Nigeria has become like a farmer whose farm is on fire, but instead of fighting the fire head-on is busying chasing rats escaping from the fire. > |

ornicus: petrol is cheaper in nigeria than in togo. he will make a profit if he gets the petrol into togo. it has nothing to do with supply. carrying petrol over the border is an abuse of the subsidy. It’s still a “symptom of a failed system” (as the commenter noted)... Petrol is NOT “cheaper in nigeria than in togo” because of some great efficiency in the Nigerian system, but rather the result of a DUMB AND CORRUPT ‘subsidy’ regime that mainly works to subsidize connected middlemen and rent-seekers. Virtually EVERY business in Nigeria that depends upon reliable electricity for its operations (from barber shops to hotels to manufacturers, etc.) resort to using generators fueled by DIESEL. All aircraft hauling passengers and cargo across Nigeria depend on AVIATION FUEL. Virtually EVERY long-haul or logistic truck/vehicle in Nigeria uses DIESEL to transport goods/food across Nigeria, and virtually EVERY bus that ferries passengers on long-haul trips across Nigeria runs on DIESEL. Meanwhile, many MIDDLE- to LOW-INCOME households and small businesses depend on KEROSENE for fuel. Yet do you know which petroleum products are NOT subsidized in Nigeria? Diesel, aviation fuel and kerosene!Meanwhile, the N11 trillion payment of outstanding fuel subsidy claims made in the past five years (as of June 2019, NASS figures) is GREATER than the budget for education, healthcare and agriculture COMBINED over the same period! So we are taking away funds from human capital development and employment-generating investments to effectively ‘subsidize’ FOREIGN refineries and their FOREIGN workers and other FOREIGNERS along the importation value-chain, as well as sundry connected Nigerian middlemen and rent-seekers and the federal and state governments that own the LARGEST fleet of passenger cars across Nigeria (and relatively small percentage of higher-income residents with private cars). Meanwhile, in many parts of Nigeria consumers still ended up paying ABOVE the subsidized rates. > |

IAmStrange: Indeed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was right when he said:
“Women may be married for four things: their wealth, their lineage, their beauty and their religious commitment. Choose the one who is religiously-committed, may your hands be rubbed with dust (i.e., may you prosper).” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5090), Muslim (1466)
Beautiful advice! A truly religiously committed one (who is not a hypocrite) will be amongst the best of those in avoiding or refraining from breaking the sacred law of taking a life of which is not supposed to be taken.
And generally, a religiously committed (who is not a hypocrite) - even if she has some short comings - will be amongst those who are the best wives to their husbands and possess the best character.
But hey! Men of today do not seek the inner important values in a woman - the ones that are imperative to making a good wife. Rather, once they have become fascinated by what's on the outside, they are done! Very pathetic
But we rejoice upon knowing of the coming Imes, who will reform many parts of the world into new societies and communities where the virtuousness and character of a woman will be taken seriously when choosing a wife.
And we await his coming
Yeah! This is the new person of which it has been said beforehand will resume the task of proclaiming the coming of Imes on this forum after it has been taken from the other person. I hope you all enjoy my time here for it will be quite different and probably more intetesting than that of that other guy.
And just so you know, my name is Strange Did your Prophet say anything about the “character” of the man? (and hopefully this is not the same prophet that was a paedophile) > |

IAmStrange: Congratulations
And aside for the degree, another thing that gives me joy is how the educational system in many parts of the world will be after the coming of Imes.
in Shaa Allaah, the greatest and most advanced the world has ever seen.
The Kuffar think education is peculiar to them. they even go to the extent of calling it "Western Education".
They think Islam is a religion of which it's components and doctrines are limited to religious rituals and practises only. rather, Islam covers spiritual and worldly life
This is due to the weakness of the Muslims of today and because they have the upper hand and that has gotten to their heads and made them arrogant and they say Islam doesn't encourage civilization.
just because many Muslims today lack deep knowledge of the Deen and are acting in ways contrary to the Deen and has caused us to become wrak. They judge from the actions of these people and say Islam doesn't encourage civilization and they feel proud because of what they have achieved.
By the time Imes will come to establish the civilization influenced by the doctrines of Islam, the likes of which has most likely never been seen, it will shock them to the bone marrow in Shaa Allaah
Indeed Islam has its civilization, the best! The Muslims of the earliest generations who stuck and stayed true to the Deen advanced in civilization and development. It's something clear from history that even non Muslim historians and philosophers attested to it.
Like:
The French philosopher Gustave le Bon stated in his book The Civilization of the Arabs: We must bear in mind that the Arabs – and the Arabs alone – are the ones who guided us to the ancient world of the Greeks and Romans. European universities, including the University of Paris, based their curricula on translations of their books for six hundred years and used their methods of research. The Islamic civilization was one of the most amazing that history has ever known. End quote.
1 – The French thinker Gustave le Bon says in his famous book The Civilization of the Arabs (translated into Arabic by ‘Aadil Zu’aytar): If the Arabs had taken over France, then Paris would have become like Cordova in Spain, a centre of civilization and knowledge, where the man in the street was able to read and write, and even compose poetry, at a time when the kings of Europe did not even know how to write their names!
2 – The German Orientalist Sigrid Hoeneker said, in her famous book The Sun of Allaah is Rising in the West, concerning the spread of libraries in the Arab and Muslim world: The libraries grew in every place like plants in good soil. In 891 CE a traveller put the number of public libraries in Baghdad as more than one hundred. Every city had a library where any ordinary man could borrow whatever he wanted, or sit in its halls to study and read whatever he wanted. Translators and writers also gathered in halls that were set aside especially for them, discussing and debating as happens nowadays at academic conferences of the highest level. The title of this book, which was originally written in German, means, “The light of Islam illuminates western civilization. This book is filled with the names of Muslim inventors, both Arabs and non-Arabs.
3 – Read these words by a Russian intellectual who explains that this religion served humanity and led to advancement and civilization. Tolstoy said: There can be no doubt that the Prophet Muhammad was one of the greatest reformers who have rendered great services to human society. It is sufficient to say that he guided an entire nation to the light of truth, and made it incline towards tranquility and peace, and preferred a life of asceticism, and prevented bloodshed and human sacrifice; he showed them the way to advancement and civilization. This is a great achievement that can only be made by one who is given strength; such a man is deserving of respect and honour.
4 – The Austrian doctor Shabrak said: Mankind should be proud to have a man such as Muhammad as a member, for despite being illiterate he was able, ten-plus centuries ago, to bring laws that we and other Europeans would be very happy if we could reach the same level.
5 – In the field of medicine and surgery, the Muslims played an undeniable role. The British writer H. G. Wells says in his book Milestones in Human History: They advanced in medicine far beyond the Greeks, they studied science and the functions of various parts of the body, and preventative medicine. Many of the treatment methods that they used are still used by us until today. They used anaesthetics for their operations and they used to perform some of the most difficult surgeries that are known. At a time when the church used to forbid the practice of medicine in the expectation that a full recovery could be achieved through religious rituals performed by the bishops, the Arabs had a true knowledge of medicine. End quote.
He also said:
Every religion that is not suited to civilization should be rejected. I have not found any religion that is suited to civilization except Islam. End quote.
It was when Muslims drifted away from true conservation Islam and they started getting influenced by the cunning Westerners that we lost our glory.
But hey! Imes is coming and when Imes comes, in Shaa Allaah, we shall regain our glory and Muslims will rise and advance in civilization again.
At that time, I will like to see any Kaafir who would say that Islam doesn't encourage civilization
Imes, we wait your coming No need for the dissertation... Education starts from pre-school and basic, and that’s where your religion has largely failed it’s adherents in Nigeria. > |

naptu2: That was not the primary reason that it was demolished. The man that demolished it has stated the primary reason why it was demolished and that was because it was a den of robbers. In fact, Governor Rasaki narrated an incident that occurred when he and President Babangida secretly went to inspect projects at Epe. They were attacked by armed robbers on their way back (near the present Lekki Phase 1). He wanted to dethrone the Baale because of that incident.
Brigadier Rasaki said that he repeatedly asked President Babangida for permission to demolish Maroko because of the robbery issue, but Babangida refused to give him permission because of the people that will be displaced. However, when Babangida went on a one week trip out of the country, Governor Rasaki used the opportunity to demolish the place.
There were lots of buildings at Maroko that were made of bricks and concrete. It wasn't a stick shanty. In fact, some of the people that were relocated had multiple storey buildings at Maroko, but they ended up having to stay in stick shanties at Ikota and Jakande (because they were allocated flats that had not been built).
Governor Otedola said that the demolition of Maroko was done in error and he promised to give them back their properties (those that had evidence), but he said that he would give them back the land through the Oniru.
Several of the residents there had title to the land. There were many squatters, but there were also many people that owned land there. For example, St Theresa's Catholic Church was a fully built brick building at Maroko, but they were reduced to having services under a rafia canopy at Ikota. Ditto for St Kizito's Clinic.
I'm not for or against the demolition, but history must be told correctly. If the highlighted is factual... Then it merely proves that at the time of the demolition, it was NOT planned/promised that occupants would be returned. Granted that these events happened well before my time, but I have personally seen documentation even preceding Raji Rasaki's administration to evict the Maroko population as squatters. Even Maroko residents themselves have at best argued from time to time that not "all" of them were squatters, but rather that "some" of them bought land from the Oniru family. Nonetheless, it's not disputable that MAJORITY were squatters. Anyway, most of us are here to LEARN, so I am glad to have learned some new facts that I was previously unaware of. Thanks!> |
