Politics / Re: PDP Leadership Intervenes As Makinde, Fayose Feud Deepens by AbijaJ: 6:56am On Dec 21, 2020
For Fayose faction to enjoy the support of 4 SW state chapters of the party in the region ( Ekiti, Osun, Ogun and Lagos) as opposed to Makinde's two (Oyo and Ondo), then Makinde should swallow his pride and retrace his steps for the benefit of the party in the region.

Trump is a very useless anti-democratic despot. He doesn't respect the Democratic process, especially when it doesn't favour his interests.

Omo, if that happens, the Republicans will never smell the Presidency again because they are obviously outnumbered, and the margins would keep getting wider because American society has more liberals than conservatives. Republicans hardly win the popular vote, it's the electoral college system that gives them a shot at the Presidency. Rednecks and their racist counterparts no go gree o.

Politics / Re: #endsars: APC Caucus Demands Gbajaabimila Resignation As Speaker by AbijaJ: 2:38pm On Dec 11, 2020
So because the House of Reps he leads invited Buhari, Gbajabiamila should resign? These people don't even know the limitations of the speakership position. A speaker is a 'first among equals' that can't singlehandedly dictate to or impose decisions on the majority of his colleagues if they go against his position. Smh.

Politics / Re: Why Can't Lagos Be Like Tokyo? by AbijaJ: 2:25pm On Dec 11, 2020
sinkhole:
Well, in the near future, Abuja will be worse than Lagos when people from Mali, Niger, Chad and other northern neighbouring countries flow-in enmass sad They will be accommodated in shanty towns and nobody will dare pursue them as they are brothers to our northern brothers smiley

I hope it doesn't get to that, but that may be bound to happen if the North remains restive and if poverty doesn't abate because it would mean the majority of those moving there would poorer Nigerians who will end up creating more shanties. It is already happening, with several IDP camps popping up all over there. Most of the idp's camps in Abuja are populated by Northerns escaping boko haram, bandits, and other fallout of insecurity in the North.

Lagos was also beautiful in the early days but gradually it degenerates, just the same way Abuja will go angry

Everyone knows that Lagos always had indigenous settlements (some of which later turned into slums) and which affected its urban planning efforts. E.g, isale Eko/Marina Central Business District (CBD) was built in the middle of Old settlements that had been in existence for hundreds of years, which affected its expansion. But the state government cleverly built other CBDs at Victoria Island and Ikoyi (and recently Lekki axis and Eko Atlantic city). But shanties also kept popping up here and there due to influx of low income earners/migrants who can't afford decent housing.

But Abuja was for the most part virgin land that was acquired by the FG, and deliberately planned from scratch. However, its original plan is no longer being followed as communities of shanties are taking over its landscape. I guess part of the reason is because even the government no longer has enough money to follow through its developmental ambitions for the FCT. Plus, the influx of Nigerians from low income cadre, who can't afford decent housing and are setting up shanties.

But what of Abuja that was built fresh?
The day I passed through Abuja during raining season, I was just SMH embarassed

Abuja held a lot of promise but the last time I visited there last month I was alarmed at the amount of shanties now dotting its landscape. Whole communities of shanties all over the place. IDP camps sef full everywhere. Abuja is retrogressing developmentally as far as I am concerned.

Lagos is still 100 years behind

Maybe. But if Lagos is that far behind, other Nigerian cities are even worse off. Eko Atlantic would be a game changer though, that's for sure.

For Lagos to become like Tokyo, a lot of slums, shanties and substandard housing would have to be demolished. And any government that tries to do that would be considered 'anti-poor'. And such government would likely lose reelection, in a democratic setting because the backlash would be fierce. Only under an autocratic administration can such be achieved.

Ladoja and Tinubu are buddies from way back, though in different parties and all. Tinubu was one of the very few Yoruba political leaders that stood by/with him during his impeachment saga that pit him against OBJ and Adedibu. He even offered him the Action Congress ticket but Ladoja was too timid to accept it. Ajimobi accepted the ticket instead and the rest is history. Tinubu has friends that cut across different political parties, regions, and persuasions.

And do you think your government is ready to let an independent and unbiased body investigate gowon?

Everybody should be innocent until proven guilty, else we all stand the risk of becoming victims of jungle justice. That's how many have been unjustly killed via jungle and mob justice because someone shouted 'thief thief', they just throw tire on the person's neck and burn them up, all because a mob of self-righteous people accused them of stealing without concrete proof. Remember the Aluu 4 that were killed in similar fashion in Rivers state some years back? God forbid you find yourself accused wrongly without proof and people just start calling you names.
