The issue is the agent lied about the travel history he put - China, Italy and UK, and I have never been to any of these countries.
Now my new application I want to come clean and state that Haven't been out of Nigeria in the past 5years but I'm scared that the previous reason I was denied will pop up and the new vo will still deny me based on that first initial denial.

DS 160 can be completed by a 15 year old student which makes me wonder why you asked n agent to complete it for you with false information. US is one of the champions of information/data gathering and I believe they still have your record. Come and clean and if asked tell them what happened. VO's are human and approve non-immigrant visa applications once they are convinced that the applicant will leave USA at the end of their intended trip.

US VO’s don’t send documents like hotel booking and all for B1/B2. All you need is your Ds160 confirmation page , passport , appointment confirmation letter and the truth.... Goodluck Sir .

Try Abuja . No agent can influence interview dates as the system is pre-programmed. What I can remember about early dates is that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are able to secure appointment dates for senior government officials outside of the system. Some members of staff of the ministry (protocol officers/messengers) sometimes commercialize it.

I think the traveller from the UK shouldn't have a problem getting the B1/B2 visa but I don't think it is necessary that the traveller state that he/she is going on a group trip since the other members of the group are not leaving from the UK.

Well it really depends on your purpose of visiting the US. Is it for an academic conference to present a paper or just sight seeing? Who is sponsoring your visit to the US? Do you have an invitation, if it is for a conference? Who is paying for your study in the UK? How much is your monthly stipend in the UK? Are you returning to Nigeria after studying in the UK? Which other country have you traveled to in the last 5 years? These are some of the questions that might come up.

So we planning a group trip (vacation ) to Atlanta from Lagos but one of us has been in U.K. on tier 4 for about 6 years now and is considering applying for a b1/b2 in London . Each individual responsible for his/her travel cost . Monthly stipend is around £1600. Traveller been to Switzerland, South Africa , Spain, Belgium , Ghana and Netherlands over the last 5 years

Yes, you can apply and obtain a B1/B2 (Business/Tourist) visa from the US Embassy in London/Belfast as a Nigerian.

Having a US visa for tourism provides an opportunity for a Tourist to see more world class sites compare to having visas to visit entire Europe and Asia together. If the true purpose is for tourism.

However, I agree with your initial post saying it shouldn't be do or die as other countries have some wonderful sites. I personally enjoy Asia as I have visited Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan...

My reason for accepting US as a top destination is it almost free of racism and openness to opportunities. What is the joy of taking your family to a Tourist destination where people don't want to seat close to you on a tourist ride or looking at you as second class cos of the colour of your skin.

As you said may be that’s why. NYC, Chi-Town and LA are likely To be more accommodating due to the diverse nature of it inhabitants . A tourist may not experience such nice hospitality in Michigan or Seattle

Sir I’ve dinned and partied at what many will call the heart of NYC. During the good days of 130 naira to the dollar I lodged around 5th Avenue and done most of what tourists do and I repeat I prefer my spring break trips to Barcelona . I lived in USA for close to 5 years and have only visited once since returning to Nigeria. I prefer going to Asian and European cities

Friends come here and post their transcript which is very good but we really need to state in details of what the USA consulate really need from us. (Especially those applying for B1/B2 visa). Ps NOTE that USA visa application is very different from UK visa dear friends. UK will give u visa with six months payslips even if u just started the job, so far u are working and earning pay but for USA they are really interested in your job, y profession , years u av spent in the job (Stable job) , your experience in the job, the career u have build for your self, what your company does, reputable companies. They are really after it ps. Ties no be only family as we think o! Or u want to prove to them u av travel history. Lol! Did d'nt care atimes. Traveling history is just only a plus to y getting visa but not the main thing in evaluating. They know how u get money travel out? May be u did Yahoo Yahoo to travel out to build travel history. Lol! My friends they are really concerned about your job profile. They know u are coming to spent in their country so they av to be very sure u av a stable job. Earn decent salary, pension, leave allowance. For me this denial really open my eyes, it made me to really make more research and I really know best now. I was having the confidence with my years of traveling abroad that I will get it but I was denial. Lol. So I really have knowledge of what they are looking for. If u av a good job with pension running for years, knowing u will be paid y final entitiment after years of service why will u risk it and stay is USA as illegal migrants, so dear friends this is what they consider well ps. Do your homework well and make research bf u think of applying for USA. No be in a rush to apply, jot as many information u can from goggle. Read the thread from part1 to de end, no get tired reading it, I know it is very long. Yes read and jot out relevant things that will help y case. Not just read ps jot and make reference to it when filling y application. I will still make out time to keep posting relevant things that USA need not just for us to come here and post transcript and ask questions, or ways on how to apply for visa. Yes we ask questions and we get reply but some of us still get denial after going throught these thread. Meanehile all these is very good, I have to say we are really trying alot in these forum. But we should also create out time to research and educate our selves more to know exactly what the meaning of their strong ties and explain in details. We hear from people that for USA once u av a job apply without telling u details of what they need in job. Yes many have come to these thread read, without jotting down relevant points, armed u might read and forget. It happened to me. My advice get a pen start from page one of this thread, read and jot ps. Ask questions, tell pple to go through y application well bf u submit. Listen to pple advice atimes, especially from experience pple. No go just meet any body to assist u, meet experience plple not agent ps. But atimes there are some good agent ps. I had one but I did not really follow some of the corrections he gave me. I was thinking my own is best. Ps d'nt be over confident with y self. Meet pple who av appy bf to put u through. I repeat again USA is not the same with UK application.

For those booking hotel reservation, it is good but they will still weight your job if the job can pay your hotel reservation.

For point of contact yes, they said if u d'nt know any body put hotel. But come to think of it for me I will still advice applicants that have friends in the USA to use their point of contact but please make sure the person have a right stay in USA and how the person take come USA, Very important. Why am I saying this is that USA need someone that can void for u. Hotel reservation can not give details about u. Hotel reservation that doesn't even know u. Some of their numbers are not going. So I think that point of contact matters to them. Yes they tell u use hotel or the shop etc. But they still consider it. The only people I advice to use hotel reservation as point of contact is those that d'nt even know any body there. But many of us have pple in USA but we are afraid not to complicate issue. (we still lie here) lol! Yes I understand but for point of contact use them and book hotel as where u will stay.

Then when the VO ask some of us questions we just make it short, I my self also did it from the advice I got from my friend, (Any thing the VO ask u just talk short) . Ps try to be friendly with them, make y interview fun not just stand there as a log of stick and keep answering short questions. Some of the VO might denial you visa bc of that even if u got all on u.

When asked why going to the USA, ps if u are going alone try to tell them u are going for your annual leave vacation. Or I am going for my annual leave vacation and to do some shopping.

They are human like us give them good reason u are going to usa. Yes some have mentioned only tourism and they were given but their discussion overall will be fun to the VO, all these they put into consideration to evaluate us but we d'nt know. We just hear people telling us just give short ans, all na lie. Are u single yes, come on! friends d'nt just say I am single lady at 40, tell them I am single and getting engaged soon. Expect u know u are single and working as a manger in a bank. Yes I know that some single ladies av gotten visa and never said engaged but after evaluating them generally both their job , they give them. My advice u are engaged ps. I am not here to tell u to lie. NO! But this is packaging. The way we package for job interview is the way we go ahead and do for USA ps. I d'nt see anything wrong in it. Yes people tell u not to lie without telling u how to state y issue. For example some one that I was discussing about not putting months, she asked if she was asked about her proof, I just advice her try to make sure that u tell the VO u have years of experience in y previous job. But meanwhile some one is there telling her not to lie, but never go ahead to tell her other details. Ps if u are new in a job make sure u tell the VO about your previous work with years not months of experience ps. For those applying for 1st time in a new job and no previous job experience, ps I will advice u to wait for one year before u apply. Not after 6months of job confirmation u apply. No! Make sure u apply after one year u are employed, at least they will know u av stayed for one year and entitled for leave allowance. Applicants can only renew visa as they start a new job bc in the privious interview they stated their past employment and beside they VO knows they av gone to USA and come bk so they give they immediately when there is no problem of overstaying. But new applicants for the first time are really checked very well.

For married when asked why are u not traveling with your husband just tell them he is unable to get leave from work. For your hubby too they will ask u what he is doing and years of working for y hubby. USA people like big things o! No tell them say y hubby na trader. Lol! That one done reach to disqualify u. Lol! Arrange y hubby profile too incase he is not going with u. Lift y hubby up for them. No put y hubby for yeye way. Those USA people like big things. I de draw Una ear O! They no want who will come and follow them to share their national cake. Or to tell them that your hubby is not working currently. Lol u are on y own. Make them to know u av a good job with y hubby. Lift Una job up.

Lastly this people don't check documents o! So na wetin u fill and y interview they will judge u with. So friends package your self well and go take y visa ps. Friends told me on what to say when I get there but fear fear make me loss out. Say the correct things but package your self. Why u want to go to USA package y self like I have really had a hectic work stress this year and I decided to go for my annual vacation in the USA. That one no be packaged (lol) even if u never had hectic time at work. Make y interview fun abeg.

Sorry dear friends for this long message. It will really go along way to educate new applicants ps. USA visa is easy to get when u do y home work well. I thank God I have gone and know my mistakes and working hard on it and not to allow others to make the same mistake.

Lesson learnt for my first visa application.
Never be over confident that u will get the visa bc u av plenty travel history. People tell u no worry with your traveling history they will give u without telling u what USA people really want.

Lesson2 try to be friendly to the VO. Vo: Goodmoring, tell him good morning and how is work? It makes their day.

Lesson3 : no just stand there as log of wood just answering yes or no without been smart to tell the VO why yes or no. Because VO no know wetin De y mind, na de thing u tell them they juge u with. Never assume he surpose to know. Explain to him.

Moreso this person tell u say I did not do this doing my own or did not mention this. Try to package your self ps. Leave other people and and do y package for your own self. Anything u know that can implicate u remove it, no allow anybody tell u put it because u must be honest at all time. No! Me I d'nt agree to that. The only thing I know d'nt lie on y age, your profile just parckage y self well and go pick y USA visa

It seems people don't realize they are applying to visit USA to spend their money. Sometimes contributors make it sound like it is a privilege to be granted a visa to go spend a vacation in USA. May be i've been going to the wrong cities but based on what I've seen/encountered in NYC, DC, Arlington and Boston, USA is overhyped. I've had better vacations in Barcelona, Lisbon, Dubai and London

Dear friends my advice to people applying for visiting visa. Ps be very careful on how u fill your form. For family ties USA people take it very serious. Family ties are having kids, spouse, a good job. For the job ps note that VO are very strict about it. For your job make sure u av stayed in the job for years than months. Years can be 5years up ward. That is my advice. I was denial visa yesterday depect my travel history. I have worked in my new office for 9months and got my leave and applied for USA visiting visa, so I was denial beacuse of it.

Not entirely true. I had barely spent one year on my current job when I applied. US immigration laws grans VOs unlimited powers to deny applicants who they believe may not leave the US after their trip. Some people's profiles are so good that it will be almost impossible for the VO to suspect that such individual will go to the US and begin to struggle to settle down there. For example a professor of medicine fro the university of Lagos who has a family and home in LAgos is not likely to abandon such role and begin to hustle permanent residence in USA which is why people of such ranks are usually never denied. However in the case of we young people, the likelihood is quite high which makes it more difficult to convince VO. However when the VO takes into consideration the applicant's profile (job, income stability, travel history and some level of instincts) the VO may grant the applicant.

I applied because I have something to go do there and not out of desperation. The only country that has denied me a visa is RSA some years ago due to insufficient funds and I have not reapplied (over 4 years now).

The passport had a fake TAnzanian Entry Permission as well as a fake Nigerian Immigration Stamp(s). US is overhyped I keep saying it. In as much as its is more developed and sophisticated than Nigeria I dont think it is worth faking travel history and all that. No need being
overly desperate and carving out things.

Go with your current visa. No point renewing visas when not necessary. Folks at the US Department of State cashing out on Nigerian visa applicants

Irrespective of the fact that your Aunty is a citizen. They may want to know how she became a citizen . If it’s by birth or naturalisation, or whatever way. However if they find that it was through arrangee marriage and the likes it may be a red flag.
I prefer to apply for visit visas using hotel reservations as opposed to getting invitation from a relative

Well said. He regaled the vo with his work duties. Maybe he should read proverbs 18 v 13. Also i see no big deal in disclosing his relationship with the aunt if there is no ulterior motive.

It goes in two ways; Having two or more relatives who went to the US illegally and found there way around the system may be seen as a red flag by the VO

Red Flags Sir. Stammering, answering to questions you weren't asked, lack of composure, lack of travel history and looking desperate. Ghana doesn't count as a travel history. Wait a year and reapply. If you can play around visit may be attend a conference in a first world country

Nice. Your husband has got an education, career, travel history and a stable family. Very difficult to leave all that and go live as an illegal migrant in USA. Unfortunately US embassy doesn’t count countries like Uae, Turkey , Ghana .... as having good travel history . They feel more comfortable with stamps from world powers like Germany , France , Canada , Switzerland , Australia , South Korea....

I must say that getting America Visa is extremely difficult now especially for those with virgin passport. Even those that have good travel history still find it hard to get Visa. Just in the space of two months three of my friend who are very very comfortable in Nigeria were all refuse Visa. Just today my cousin was deny Visa as well, below is his transcript.

So what happened?

Ask your cousin to also show you a copy of the DS 160 data. Most times the decision is based on the data entered into the DS 160 form. The US immigration law is such that if the VO is not convinced that the applicant will leave USA at the end of the visit they are more than empowered to deny the applicant.

I wonder why most of us are even making these VO's / consulates overly important. If US visa officer says no to me I'll gladly go to another country. I'll only feel sad if their decision brings about a loss to me (e.g scholarship, fellowship, job losss.... ) . Otherwise if it's vacation we all have many more options.

On the other hand what makes it more difficult for some genuine travelers is that Nigerians have a history of overstaying their visas and immigrating through the non-immigrant visa route. Citizens of countries like South Africa dont usually encounter such difficulties and the duration of the visas issued to them is usually longer than the 2 year M-entry visas granted to Nigerians

OP she was not doing well in UK . The value of GBP27k per annum is not equivalent to the value of NGN850k per month. That's how you now OP's who have no experience of currency values/living costs across different regions of the world.

I agree with @eyinola US B1/B2 visa is far easier to get than that of most European countries especially for people with no job or stable income or people with no money in their account.

I know of a woman who overstayed her visa along with her first son (2003 to 2011 lol) while in the US she gave birth to two others. They returned to nigeria in 2011 and in 2012 they wanted the son to go study in canada even though the parents preferred USA. They assumed the us had banned both mother and son for overstaying but i told them the guy was below 18 and shouldnt be banned for overstaying at such a young age. The parents reluctantly applied for a student visa for the son and he went to the embassy for his appointment. He was issued a two year study visa lol. The mum screamed and screamed and danced cuz zhe never believed he will be granted. The guy told me the VO asked where he was going to study and he mentioned sugarland, texas, The VO then asked if that was the same city he overstayed at and he answered NO. She typed some things and granted him the visa.

in 2015 his mum went to apply for a visa after 4 years in nigeria and she was granted without hitch. She was housewife with no job or income.

This VO was jealous of the lady's accomplishment and status and confidence....VO looking for gaps to shut her down, and when she found it she never bothered to enquorw further for clarification or perharps other strengths that might overshadow a simple "change in plans" in the couple's itinerary.

Look, if i was this lady's fiancee i will rip the visa out of my passport and take vacation elsewhere. Spain is looking for touriats. Netherlands is looking for tourists.

Lol the tune of her voice suddenly changed and she suddenly went quiet which gave the VO the perfect opportunity to return her passport. I prefer the UK visa system which asks detailed questions with the opportunity to submit documents to back it up.
However the US visa is easier to get especially for people with no stable income, documentation or job.

Nevertheless my best holiday was to barcelona followed by lisbon. US is overrated.

US immigration law grants too much powers to the VO which can work to the applicant's advantage or disadvantage. I remember back in 2013 summer an applicant could barely understand the VO and his accent was very hausa in a very funny way. We were all laughing (including the VO) and the applicant was getting annoyed. The VO told him to calm down to answer just one question and he will approve his visa lol . The angry applicant was issued. He obviously didnt know anythng about the city or even the name of the state he was visiting. All he knew was that he was going to visit his brother who lives in the usa with a paper that had the brother's address

The VO knew nothing about them and remember by law fiancées are not recognised . He probably thought she just got someone’s visa page and present . I’m also not a fan of using someone’s profile to strengthen my application because I feel like I may not know a lot about the person or his/her circumstances.

And that particular VO laid emphasis on travel history as he asked all interviewees about there travel history.

These VO’s go through the DS160 entries made on their screen and many times make a decision based on that.

Guys, one advice i'll want you all to take is the "do not lie factor". Just say things as they are and just answer the questions honestly and leave the rest to them. During my last interview there was a lady standing in front of me. Very smart looking and formally dressed . Her story was flowing well till the lies became glaring. Find the bits of what I can recall:

Lady:okay
VO: Why are you going to the US
Lady: I'm going to spend my vacation
VO: Where in the US
Lady: Orlando, FLorida
VO: What do you do ?
LAdy: I work at Fidelity bank ...........
VO: Tell me more about what you do for Fidelity Bank
Lady: (She describes her job role/ day-day activity which was very sweet) She had the fidelity scarf on her neck
VO: Are you travelling alone?
LAdy: NO. I'm travelling with my fiancee
VO: Does your fiancee already have a visa
Lady: Yes he does
VO: Do you have a copy of the visa with you ?
Lady: Yes (she passes a photocopy of the fiancee's visa to the visa officer)
VO: When did you get engaged
LAdy: 8 months ago
VO: Your fiancee applied for his visa in February this year and he mentioned that he was travelling alone
Lady: she stammers and said the fiancee changed plans
VO: Your visa is not approved under section bla bla bla. He hands back her passport and a blue paper to her which I believe states the reason for denial.


She would have just been straight that way the VO would not have had any reason to suspect any foul play. I went there with the "whatever" attitude and didnt in any way make up stories. It was up to them to either issue me or not issue me

Have you worked in a big organisation before ? When you receive an allowance upfront , your monthly net pay reduces afterwards. That 70k is after the monthly bulk allowance (#1.2M) has been collected

Please let them know what is applicable abroad. It’s so unfortunate that you are now suffering the “Nigerian situation”. However, there are houses on the Island that applies the same principles like those applicable abroad. Might be wise to move into such houses to avoid complications and unbearable conditions.

I stay on the island (Lekki 1) where I thought I'd get something similar but man Africa remains Africa. Even most of what they call serviced apartments here in Lagos are more like unfurnished apartments in UK , Us, Canada and many more. I once rented an unfurnished apartment in scotland and it came with a two door fridge, cooker, extractor, heaters , washing machine, dryer and a prepaid gas/electricity meter. I later moved to a furnished apartment that had even sppons, cups, plates, internet, Tv, bedding, iron............... But in my home country what they call serviced apartment doesn't even come with a bed or sofa. Except may be the ones in Ikoyi have but they are way above my budget so I haven't looked them up

130k per month (ASPII) No allowances as there pay scale is consolidated . NPF jobs used to be easy to come by but the last recruitment in 2017 was very competitive probably as a result of job losses in the private sector which made many more Nigerians to look up to public sector jobs which guarantees some level of security

They are angry because of the way the typical Nigerian man or woman is wired to reason #entitlement mentality . Even in families you find people doing extremely well keeping details of their paycheck away from other members of the family .
