Lol won’t you get bored staying four months . Anyway it’s America you can easily start living like a resident even though you are on a visit visa compared to other countries . Most likely you’ll be granted 6 months stay but staying that long is usually a red flag

Landed JFK terminal 7 from London in the evening. There was no queue aside from passengers on the flight I arrived on

Lmao. You just keep dancing around the point. Fact is, everybody qualifies based on their own personal merit. The question I asked you is if you being on an F visa at one time or the others affected your relatives chances of a visa. Where did I mention anybody relying on their relatives F or H visa to secure a visa? I only corrected your notion of whether or not an F visa and subsequent AOS affects their relatives chances of a visa, because they switched from a non-immigrant visa to an immigrant visa —which you mentioned in the first post I quoted. My relatives got visas based on their own individual ties, but me having being on an F visa at one point and being a subsequent immigrant never hindered my relatives’ chances at a visa. Likewise people that I know that followed the same route. That’s what I am trying to tell you.

Yes, I like to write. Cos I hate when people peddle untruths or half-truths. I have also been on an F-1 visa before, your point is? Did your F visa affect your relatives visas? Cos it didn’t affect mine and all of my friends who were on it at one point or the other.

I never had to invite any relative as my siblings and parents got visas based on their individual ties and reason to visit. They never relied on their son/daughter or brother/sister’s possession of a F1/H1B to secure a VO’s approval. Be tolerant of opinions rather tagging comments as half-truths simply because they aren’t in agreement with your views or your interpretation of facts.

Where did I say an F visa for a Nigerian citizen had a validity of more than 2 years? Everybody knows the rule of reciprocity between Nigeria and the US. Visa for all categories is issued for not more than two years. What I said, was that you can be on an F visa for longer than two years. And FYI, you don’t even need to renew it. Once you’re in good standing and you’ve not fallen out of status,and you have continuous enrollment and a current I-20 you can stay in the US on an expired F visa. The only reason most people renew is because they want to travel out of the US and need a visa to be let back into the country.

PS: lots of people’s relatives have gone to the embassy and told the VOs their relatives got permanent residency or US citizenship through adjustment of status from an F visa and they’ve gotten US visas. Is it not even easy for the person to file a green card straight for her mom instead of going the B visa route? We’re not VOs, so nobody can be sure with all certainty why the woman was denied visas. We can only speculate, just that your speculations are bothering on falsehoods. Have a great weekend.

I can see you like to write but I’m not the VO or neither can I do anything about the mum’s situation. I’ve been on F1 before and had to renew it in Abuja during the summer of 2010 . No matter how tedious the change of status process is many will go through it either to buy time or for immigration intent . My speculation is based of what observed while I resided in the east coast and what I’ve read here.

What is it with border officials in Nigeria asking departing Nigerian travellers about where they work and office ID card ? I just passed immigration at abuja airport and I was asked bout my job. After that a customs official stopped me asking where I was going to and why I was going to the US . Is it a new policy ?

You’re argument is fraught with untruths. First off: yes, the F-1 is valid for two years. But what if she’s been in the US for longer? You can be on F-2 for as long as 10years. Bachelors, masters, PhD. I personally know people who’ve been on F visas for 6 years.

Two: hers is not the first case of a grandmother wanting to take care of her grandchild. It’s not gonna be the last. I know a woman who’s been coming to the US consistently on a B visa to take care of her grandkids since 2014. Spends 5months here and goes back. The child that got her the visa was and is still on an F-1 visa. She’s getting a PhD. And FYI, American Grandmoms also take care of their kids who just had babies. Tho not as much as the Africans but it’s not a concept that’s unheard of.

Three: switching from an F-1 to a green card is not a crime. If it was, lots of F-1 students would not be able to have their families visiting. Wait, you think marrying a US citizen is the only way for an F-1 visa holder to get a green card? Their company could petition a green card for them. Intel does it, Apple does it. And it’s not that hard to get jobs at those places. They can even petition for a green card by themselves. It’s possible. There are tons of ways to change from an F visa to a green card. So far she didn’t violate the terms of her F visa, she’s done nothing wrong.

While it’s not crime to switch visas I’m sure you know that visa officers don’t like to hear anything to in line with plans to switch from a non-immigrant visa to an immigrant visa from within the US. On the other hand regarding the validity of F1 visa I repeat that Nigerian passport holders are granted F1 visas with a validity of at most two years . It’s can be renewed thereafter but no Nigerian passport holder gets a B or F visa with a validity of more than two years . Citizens of Kenya get B & F visas with a 5 year validity and citizens of South Africa get B & F visas with a maximum of 10 years validity .
Don’t get me wrong I’m in no way justifying the actions of the visa officer but at the moment visa issuance rate is low in Nigeria , Ghana and some other countries. Only about 40-45 % of applicants are successful with their B visa application . So kindly advise people based on what is happening and not based on what is meant to happen. I won’t advise the Op to reapply immediately.

I never said it was questionable however we need to look at things from the perspective of what is happening as opposed to what things are meant to be like . US visa officers are granted an almost unregulated level of autonomy to decide whether applicants qualify for their visa or not . Thus if they suspect anything they can deny without thinking twice . In addition I guess you are aware that F1 visa is a non-immigrant visa but an intent by the daughter to switch to an immigrant visa was already obvious during the mum’s interview. Daughter went to US on F1 visa (which is usually valid for two years ) and is already married to a US citizen with a US born child . This is a clear case of intending to immigrate and the VO may have suspected that mum may be an intending immigrant . If you’ve noticed during visa interviews the interviewer usually types some form of note as you are answering the questions which may serve as a reference point for the next interviewer. And lastly mothers going to stay with daughters during and after birth is more of an African thing . I don’t hear of it among the whites ( Europeans / Americans ) and I’m guessing the VO is also not so abreased with our African culture . My comment was based on all these facts . There are a lot of intending immigrants in Nigeria at the moment which makes its difficult for these visa officers to clearly identify .

The custodians of the UNited states said the applicant is not qualified to come into their country . Leave them nowww. I’m sure you are aware that after a denial the system is only available for re-application after 6 months ( I read that here some time ago) . Nigeria is one of those countries with a high immigration intent rate .
How did her daughter become a US resident ? How this her son-in-law also become a US resident ? These are some of the questions she should ask herself instead of rushing to go through the whole visa application process

This kinda desperation is one of the reasons why the US consulate treats we Nigerians even more harshly. Since I joined this thread almost every poster whose application got denied always immediately talks about re-applying immediately . I’ve only been denied visa once (South Africa) about three years ago and till date I’ve not even gone near their embassy or website . Why don’t you ask your mum to go elsewhere or worry bout something else other than this USA visa even though we know it’s a great country .

The refusal paper given to me is what they gave to other people and it is same language. no home tie and they didn't check documents and my bank statements so how they arrive at that is my major concern.
Attached is the green paper when my visa was cancelled and the pink for my latest refusal.
what is stated is all I have authentic.

Was this the paper given to you after the visa was revoked or after your recent visa interview ?

- Did you lie at your interview, or input false information on your forms. You can come clean, it can help pinpoint the problem.
- What was your P.O.E in the US?
- Have you broken any immigration law, in other country, other than the US?

While I don’t want to doubt your story it’s kinda strange that you weren’t stopped at the airport in Abuja/lagos but rather at Istanbul. I’ve heard of two cases of visa revocation but the victims both confirmed receiving a notification email . I’m not sure USA has CBP officers at Istanbul. Is there any more information about your case that you haven’t shared ? May be that will give us a better understanding of why the decision made was made .

The 1st time I went with my baby and the 2nd time, I went alone. However the visa has expired I tried renewing me and my son''s visa using the drop box but I was asked to come for an interview. Hello house, want to narrate my story and wish you guys can assist with an idea and ways i can go about my next interview. In 2013 i merged with a lady that won visa lottery,on the interview day the consular discovered that i personally won visa lottery too but i won as single(not married)in short we were denied and the guy said we have been banned from playing visa lottery. Because of the fear since 2013 i decided not to apply. I got a job with an audit firm that same year with good salary and married 2016 but told my wife to apply alone and she didnt fill my name as her husband as advised by agent unforunately she was denied.

Now we have both travelled to south africa last month with our daughter and we wanted to apply for US now for 2weeks vaction. I know my chance is slim but just want to seek for advise here. Assist look into my case plzz

You work in an audit firm . I believe it’s one of the big four but even if it’s not I believe one has to be intellectually sound to work as an auditor and I’m trying to understand why you couldn’t apply for the tourist visa without the services of an agent. I suspect you are up with another trick lol . This forum is very entertaining and I see why VO’s find it tough believing stories from visa applicants in Nigeria. Peeps I know from Kenya , Tanzania , South Africa , Zimbabwe .... don’t usually have a tough time getting these visas but surprisingly you read all sorts of complicated stories here like single men jointly being paired with a lady to pose as a couple, people paying agents a huge sums of money, people appending counterfeit visa stamps to their passports and people travelling to uae and South Africa for the sole purpose of building a travel history for their us visa interview . It depends . If you have a history of travelling and abiding by the visa rules of the country you’re travelling to the VO will most likely ignore the fact that you’re unemployed.

My questions are
1. Will the letter be sent to me or to the embassy
2. Is there any particular format to follow when writing an invitation letter and is there any authentication that needs to be done on it in the US before he sends it to me.
3. These days, do invitation letters still serve any purpose? Will it increase my chances of getting the VISA?

Oga don’t waste your time with invitation letter . It doesn’t mean anything when visiting the US for leisure purpose (B2) . You stand a good chance I f you are economically stable with a good profile . But if you’re relying solely on the invitation of a US citizen then you may as well wait till things are good with you

After d long wait I got my passport 2day. Visa was granted. For both my daughter and I. (Single mum)
I came to this page after submitting so when I read thru I started having anxiety cos I made lots of mistakes. Starting from submitting a minus salary account and chunking money in my other account a week b4 submitting (with a sponsor thou)..and I didn't explain nada in any cover letter.
I thank God o! Indeed everyone's application is different regardless of funds and all. They have how they analyse these things. I have travelled once b4 thou!

Good afternoon, i was refused a US visa for the 4th time and i dont understand why its so. My first application was in October 2008 while i was pregnant( with hubby), the 2nd was December 2010 while pregnant again(alone) and the 3rd was 2012 with my kids but we were denied. Just on Monday 9th of July 2018, i went for another interview alone (hubby got his in 2014 when he applied alone)and was still denied again even with travel history. Sorry bout The experience but I’m not sure you’ve read or followed his thread . From your script you aren’t even acting like someone who has gone through the us visa interview round before .
Firstly why were you jittery ? Why intercept VO officer with information you weren’t asked for ? The VO didn’t believe that you had a travel history to the U.K. . She suspects that you had something to hide that’s why you didn’t present the passport with the U.K. entry stamps .

I attended my first visa interview alone when I was 18 and I recall It was during the global economic meltdown (2008) with strict visa policies . I just didn’t care cuz I already had a visa to Germany and U.K. and reluctantly went to the us consulate for the B visa . My parents didn’t even know bout my application but I just went and it was approved . I simply told them I was goin stay in a hostel. They approved the visa (3 month’s validity) . I never even used it

Is it an immigrant visa ? If it’s not don’t waste your money as you may be denied for the same reason.

I did...I traveled and spent 3 months in the uk, after which i was advised by an agent to backdate my arrival for future application purpose. I then followed this advice and paid him to do that.
Fast-forward to when i re-applied, i was refused based on the fact that a wrong stamp was found in my passport and it was seized.

i accept that i have done worng and its been years...i have even renewed my passport and am just asking if anyone has recently been able to pass this stage successfully. The portal is really open for anyone that is ready to condemn, i am looking for someone who can shed more light to this for me...just want to know what to do.
