GAZZUZZ, you swear for my car?

I had thought my problems were mysteriously over until i closed from work about to take off for my village where my grandma's grave will were a new look.

I tried to start and there was no kick. Tried a couple of times and finally it started. I was like what just happened. I had to eat 1st so i stopped for some food but the key would come out from the ignition or move to 0 position. I now tried to start, but not kick. I tried to remove gear shifter from park after depressing brake but it wont move. I looked up while the ignition was on but no gear position lights. I fiddled shifter a little and the P light flashed. In the same process i did and the car started but gear wont go out of park so i did manually. Reverse didnt activate until i move the shifter repeatedly until it engaged. I drove gen

I was able to get to a mechanic workshop where they changed the park/neutral switch for a trial. It didnt inprove. Mine was returned and voila, its working again. I will be lost if it happens again.

Inverter users pls help me decide.

I have order a 1.2kva 12V Mercury inverter with LCD display at a very affordable price using a voucher. Including shipping, it is N18,315. I already have a single 200mah 12V NNPC used battery US made. My friend actually bought 2 batteries and a Luminous ecovolt 900va 12V inverter but uses only one battery because of the charging capacity so he let he have the other one.

I cant afford the same Luminous inverter now which is a pure sine wave inverter and cost atleast 31k with shipping. So i pounced on the mercury which is cheap but Modified sine wave. Thats the expected downside which i read that equipments running on it may tend to over heat while inductive loads like fans florescent lights will have problems in form of humming noise and heat up from prolong use. other problems may be humming noise from inverter itself and electrical interference with radio and TV signals. I am worried that i may be disappointed with the fact that is a modified sine wave and could irritate me once i start using it. So i might end up wasting money on this buy. I will be using a standing fan, 32" LED TV, 2 decoders, Home theater and 1 energy saving bulb from sitting room pendant light.

Of course its pay on delivery so i can call them up and cancel if i change my mind. Who has used a mercury inverter that is modified sine wave? I need a user review and encouragement.

P0706 is for open. Honda could be funny with codes sha.

We did open the switch the last time but it didnt stop the problem. It ended up with water in the ECU. Maybe water causes a short in its circuit but why not other circuits.

I must confess, my car floor is a bit moist from last car wash. I have removed the floor mats and left all doors open in the sun to dry since morning when i arrived the office. My thoughts are that mist rising from the slightly wet floor probably condensed inside the ECU causing the same problem like last time. The fact that the effect manifested just after leaving a mechanic garage may be a coincidence. However, if i had condensed mist in the ECU from yesterday evening, i dont thing it dried up so fast from an enclosed space within the hours of the night.

25 miles so far, no CEL.

I did try to adjust its connector and followed its harness to another connector which i made sure it clipped very well. I worked on all connectors i could access around there but the CEL still came back.

That was yesterday. This morning, i have driven more than 10miles with nothing showing up. I hope it goes away for good. I shall report back with any development.

Guys, my car is at it again.

I had engine mount problems which led to my replacing the rear and the left engine mounts this afternoon. There was tight space to remove the bad rear mount. The mechanic had to move it repeatedly pushing stuff out of the way. Engine harness passes around there to the ECU.

All repairs finished with good result and even took it to car wash 300m away for only external wash. I left the car wash and 500m away CEL came on with D light flashing and N light staying lit. I parked, scanned and got P0705 same code from beginning of this thread. I checked to see if they pushed out any electrical connector especially one that leads to Park/neutral position switch but did find any. I cleared the cel hoping my little trouble shoot would hv accidentally solved the problem. I got the cel the next 500m. It still drives good and shifts well too. The cel keeps coming back after few minutes of driving.

I dont know if i should investigate the ECU for water like last time or what? The problem isnt exactly like before with this one less DTC's and less errors diaplayed at the instrument panel. The coincidence with all the activity around the engine harness gives me concern.

Mobil xhp, Total quartz 5000 etc are 20w50 and used by up to 90% of car owners in Nigeria. That is against specification for most North american cars which most times recimmend 5w20 and 5w30 with some. Milemaster is semi synthetic, falls within spec and should be better than the 20w50 commonly used.

Why is it bad then? Is it a fake product?

Based on the codes provided, does it really require replacement of the engine coils or outright engine replacement?

The truth is that non of your engine codes explains huge smoke. If all engine coils packs are bad, the car wouldnt start at all. If 2 are bad, the car will hardly start or may not be able to idle. Same with spark plugs.

Huge "blue" smoke tells these conditions:
Valve Seals/guide leak
Piston Rings worn or damaged
Worn Cylinder Walls
PCV System stuck closed

These conditions makes engine oil gets to the combustion chamber were its not supposed to and get burnt. The only solution to worn rings or cylinder walls is to install new rings that fit and are original or buy a new engine.

Black smoke is hardly huge unless for diesel engines. For petrol engines which am sure yours is, black smoke signifies a rich condition where too much fuel is delivered to the combustion chamber. Causes could be either leaky injectors or stuck fuel pressure regulator

There is also White/Gray Smoke which results from coolant leaking into combustion chamber due to one of the 3:
Cylinder head crack
Engine block crack
Burnt head Gasket

One thing to note is that the codes you presently have may be old which has been solved but codes still show since they were not cleared. The only way to be sure is by revalidating the codes by clearing them and performing a drive cycle to see which will come back.

You need a dedicated, knowledgeable and honest mechanic to diagnose properly. What we can tell you here is pure guess work or just a guide to diagnosis.

Dont forget that your mechanic has to be sure on what is wrong before you start spending on repairs. He may be wrong and you spend money with no results. If the ultimate diagnosis leads to buyng a new engine you have to get a very good bargain for this smoky one. A good bargain i suppose would be up to 1 quarter of the agreed price of replacement engine. That will serve as a discount from your engine seller. This is a worst case scenerio.

Absolute NO to 1, 3, 5, 6 and 8. Wait on 2, 4, 7 and 10 till main problems are solved. That leaves you with only 9 and maybe an alternator. 1 and 5 would have given their own codes. 1 is 6 in number against his quoted 8 and expensive which amount to a rip off in event you leave it behind with him.

You are not sure the MAF is bad, air leak from hose will make the MAF look bad. Serpentine belt will make much noise if very stretched and needs urgent replacement. I hope you can check for yourself from markings on the tensioner?

Concentrate on the air hose-MAF connector/wires-MAF in the order if it doesnt change and the low voltage should be checked by an electrician.


Modified: Mind you it is strange or rather less likely for all ignition coils to fail at the same time. Intake leak can cause all the codes you have except P0562 so threat that first.

WOW! Thats alot. I know a few off heart from my recent job on the 08 accord.

P0300-6 are cylinder misfires on all cylinders. No worries, definitely effect from other codes.
P0420/30 are catalyst efficiency below threshold on both banks (indomie is not good or may have been affected by misfires). Would not stop the car from running well. Keep aside for now.
That leaves us with P0103 and P0562 where the real problem is.

P0103 Honda - Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit High Voltage

Possible causes
- Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Intake air leaks
- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor circuit poor electrical connection

P0562 Honda - Charging System Low Voltage

Possible causes
- Low battery charge
- Battery defective
- Loose or missing alternator drive belt
- Faulty alternator
- Open or short system voltage circuit

1st thing to do, remove your intake air hose and inspect for breakage/leakage. If bad replace or use PVC electrical tape/masking tape to temporarily seal leakage. 3-4k for hose
2nd reinstall making sure the MAF sensor is properly connected
3rd borrow a battery for test instead of yours

Start and test car. If its ok then you are lucky. If not, you will need a live scan to proceed with proper diagnosis. Live scan should tell you if MAF sends live data or unconnected. In otherwords to make sure MAF is bad before buying another. On the other hand, live scan should also tell you system voltage 12V @ engine off and 13.8-14.3V @ engine running. If first is below 12V battery is bad. If second is out of range, bad alternator or any other electrical problem.

This money was remitted to government coffers weeks ago, that means During Buhari's tenure. How come the PDP said GEJ saved it? How can you save money you never had? I am sure if the previous administration had access to this money, it would have been long gone with the wind.

Pls I need help with my wife's 07 Accord. Had a similar ish. Car suddenly stopped accelerating more than 20mph while she was on her way to wrk 2days ago. Check engine and VSA lights came on too. My Lil research online showed dat it mite be from faulty APP sensor or TPS sensor or from overdue oil change. I had my oil changed becos it was due (10%), had APP sensor and TPS changed and still no headway. Got someone to run a scan and he said the brain box wasn't communicating with the throttle body and since we had changed the throttle body he decided to put anoda brain box. Still no improvement. Now my mech is outta ideas and the car is moribund. This is d first time this car is acting up rilli. I'm soooooo confused.

If i were you, i would be reading and practicing all i can instead of wasting valuable time on Nairaland. I have stated a software in my CV that i actually never used. But i believe i can do it in a week. You have a week to update yourself, get someone with experiece to put you through. Dont be shy about asking for help.

N3,000 is an average scanning session cost so you wanna be wise for next time by getting your own and advising your mechanic yourself.
