tym92:I am talking about Southern Kaduna not Kaduna south LGA, so no. |
Hauptmann:Your presumptions are based on what exactly. I can start discussing this guy whom I've known for over 10yrs and it will be a very long write up. So if I tell you what I concluded about him, at least it took me years to conclude but it took just one of your post to conclude on you. There is no bias here. The table I sit at this moment @ a bar has 2 Igbo guys with whom I sit with every now and then. The bar belongs to an Igbo guy whom I have monetarily supported to keep him from going back to his Village that I have been to at least once. Your statement was really really bad, no point for the diversion. |
SOUTH EAST: IS IT NOT TOO LATE? I have read the recent transmissions by Senator Bukola Saraki directed at my Igbo tribe. I have deliberately kept mum on this as I had earlier resolved to speak less on Igbos as regards the 2019 Elections and 2023 Presidency having said quite a bit. However seeing as some of my brethren have swallowed the cheap bait, I will chip this in just to keep the reality before us, at least for posterity sake. Truth is bitter but it's still the best medicine. My people say; 'He who does not remember where the rain started beating him, will not remember where it stopped'. REWIND TO 2014. A new National Party was being conceived. Political Parties, political players and Regions were being wooed to the new alliance. 'We' Igbos (read South East) vehemently refused to touch it even with a long pole. We packaged, sold to ourselves and bought the baseless propaganda that it was an Islamic alliance that would birth an "Islamic" and "Hausa" Party. Simply because those our brethren heavily invested in the PDP at the time were afraid of losing their vested selfish interests. Till today I'm still trying to fathom the basis for that wicked and twisted deceit especially as many of those Igbo elites who sold that dummy have since ported to the same APC. We failed to even identify with that new Alliance. Hence the Party, APC was birthed without any remarkable input from us or presence. The few amongst us who aligned were called all kinds of names and abused to high heavens by us even when they were proven right afterall. Thus the few Igbos who were part of it were at best fringe players as they didn't have the required clout to make serious demands and do the necessary political wheeling and dealing required in Politics to strike the hard bargains since politics is all about interests and numbers. They were even suspect, so much so that it was only their personal political sagacity that gave them whatever they got. That Party went on to win the Presidential Election which in truth, most of us never believed it could or would, because of our half baked permutations and poor understanding of Nigerian politics. But it did. Curiously we turned up at the fore front of telling this same Party how it should share it's 'spoils of war'. We became hypocritical moral champions with an over bloated sense of entitlement. Who does that, in all political reality and practicality? But we did, even while vehemently and vociferously still refusing to shift our position, style and rhethoric. We dug in. Supported every bad thing and person against the Party, the elected President and the Administration while denying any and every good done to and for our Region. Fast forward to where we are today. Almost four years after the 2015 misadventure, we have stayed put at 2015, refusing to move forward, refusing to shift grounds, refusing to play pragmatic politics, telling ourselves the same lies we cooked and bought in 2015 and some more. Now after election, we have started again saying "APC cannot give Presidency to Igbos in 2023". "Buhari cannot hand over to an Igbo man because Buhari hates Igbos". "APC is deceiving you", bla bla bla. Of course. We will believe Saraki, who has only but a fanthom dream of becoming President and whose only known record is selfishness but we can't believe Buhari who's already President and who has a record of voluntarily picking two great Igbo sons as running mates in the past? Chukwu aju. It is interesting and vital to note here that the PDP which many of us still proudly support and adore was in power for 16 solid years and in those years there were 4 Presidential Inaugurations and on none of those was an Igbo man found worthy by the PDP of even Vice Presidency and we are still bold to say it is the APC that has not even finished one tenure that doesn't want to give power to Igbos. Odi nma. NOW; Seriously, let's be sincere. As things stand today politically, why would the APC even hand power to us Igbos in 2023? On what grounds? On what records? On what politics? Is power given to anyone? Is it an appeasement or a gift? The APC is a political party. The main focus of a political Party is to hold power and keep it to enable it deliver on its agenda. So if the APC reads that the SE does not want the Presidency or does not have the capacity to help them win and keep power, they will stick with the regions that can and work with individuals who are interested. Make no mistake, I have always said, I do not blame us Igbos for the decision majority of us took in 2015. It's our right. But continuing to pretend that it was other regions, Buhari or the APC that made us do what we did then or remain where we are today is purely self deceit and I refuse to play that ostrich game. As far back as 2014, I and many others made that argument that Igbo Presidency was very feasible in 2023, ONLY under under the APC, ONLY IF we did a couple of things right politically. I personally continued to speak loudly on that even after the 2015 elections until when I realized that we were not ready to play the politics that was required and now I dare say it may be too late. Or is it not? Time will tell. For now, we can continue to tell ourselves that we cannot hold the Presidency of Nigeria. We heard and read many of our brethren go from PDP to Biafra/seccesion (read IPOB) to Referendum to "Igbos do not need Presidency but Restructuring" etc forgetting that all that didn't lie squarely with us alone. We think other regions are not reading our body language? We really don't care what Saraki writes or says because they've all come to realize that it's very easy to play us like a flute. So like Saraki, like Fani Kayode, like Fayose, like Atiku, even Jonah Jang of all people, they keep playing us. We have learnt not to bother ourself anymore to avoid unnecessary arguements with nonentities As some of us have said, it's good governance we want, even if only one village will be producing the Presidents. So be it.. Ka Chineke mezie okwu. J.I Only a sensible person like you can ever see sense in this. Glad to see we still have intelligent people with a sound mind like you around. God bless you. God bless Nigeria.
Please tell them. I have been arguing with Igbos physically and online. |
Our job as the opposition is to oppose and say “no” which we will continue to do on the floor but the provisions of our rules and democratic ethos say on the floor of both chambers, voice vote and cast votes determine where you go and so, despite your opposition, the votes still say that they should toe the line of their party. We have no options left.Your job is to say no even if yes means progress of the country. This people will never learn. |
IgbalodeRaymond:Na so una dey call Buhari names, na so Tinubu go come and go, una still the call am names. The next northerner go come, if una never realise say una be side chick, na so una go remain side chick for ever. |
humilitypays:I am a Northerner for Bleep sake. You Igbos always get people wrong. Let me wait and see what you will get wrong next. |
Lexusgs430:This is by far the worst of the tribalistic threads I have ever seen on Nairaland. Bangalover:If you currently reside in Southern Kaduna, you should have known there is only one car stand that you will get at least 5 cars that are all either direct toks or 1st grade Naija used. The car stand belongs to a Yoruba man so keep on the search. Na so my Igbo neighbor ignored my free honest advise and recommendations. He ended up destroying the perfect gear box of his less than 6 months toks Car. He was receiving advise from his Igbo brothers. |
humilitypays:So na Igbo go put Nigeria on track? Out of tribalism? Demanding Igbo president is not tribalism abi? You still talk trash putting your head high and then come back to beg then threaten other Nigerians for votes, when rejected you shout Biafra. Next you start telling me how blessed you are. Go to Kano and see wealth, you will realise God doesn't know you exist. I can be poor but contentment is key. A rich unfulfilled man is the poorest of the poor. A man has an average 60yrs of life, it is how happy you have been that matters not how rich you were. |
Bigflamie:Keep dreaming. |
The VC no get comprehensive insurance on his backup car? |
humilitypays:You are dreaming if you think Igbo will be in Aso Villa 2023. Not even VP. You guys think the presidency is a right. Even if it is, you have to work for it. What work has SE done? Apart from insults and threats. |
I was the Head prefect. |
Ayemileto:Valve timing issue. A good Gen Mechanic should know what to do. |
obembet:Yes to the question. I must warn you, not every guy wants to be a bestie. To find that one guy is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. I had a bestie one time before we fell out right around my marriage. Her friend was my girlfriend but when I broke up with her friend, she was the only girl around me. We spent time so much and she told me things I didn't need to know. I wrestled myself to not make her my girlfriend. I felt she was gonna be game but the risk of losing my only female bestie did not let me bring emotions into the picture. I particularly didn't want anything because I know how hard it was breaking up with a girl I loved but not sure of the future. So this bestie should not be a fling. So a bestie will not be immune to feeling for you. Its like fucking your boss's daughter, if you know you can't get away, don't start. What actually ended the bestie thing was that, men are men, women are women. I had friends, so she couldn't fit with my other friends. When guys hang out late, drink to stupor, a sober person in that moment will have stories to tell and girls will be girls. When guys gist, they are not comfortable with a bestie. She literally has to be a tom boy to belong. Technically, i was just a part-time bestie. Also being a bestie means you have to have things in common and spend time together. So if you don't drink, bestie shouldn't either. If you love movies, bestie should be into it. In fact my major disagreement with my bestie was about booze, things just got cold after that. She also wanted to wear the suit on my wedding but i didn't let her (I regret not letting her). I miss the fact that we are not so close anymore. |
Ahmed0336:After them marry, that kind secret no go make both of them comfortable for a very long time. |
Whiteball:Just tell her to quit the drama. |
Ecstasy154:This guy get sense. Him dey find job. |
boay:Check your type of business and see if its construction. |
boay:I disagree too. North America use Building, Cost or Construction Estimator, specifically not the term Engineer or Engineering (see first screen shot for reasons) for job duties exactly as that of a QS. Look at the professional organizations; UK: Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors US: American Society of Professional Estimators Nigeria: Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors QS/Construction Estimator is not an engineering degree. Cost Engineering also known as Project control engineering on the other hand is an Engineering degree and its duties is not just providing a cost estimate but also determining profitability or usefulness of the investment and the comparative options hence the Evaluation in the BEME. The evaluation is what differenciates a BOQ to a BEME. I first heard BEME in class, a civil engineering class and answered test and exam questions on it. Something that is part of the curriculum could not have been coined in Nigeria by Nigerian engineers or my lecturer for the benefit of Nigerian engineers. This is not a contest bro. I am aware of the role of a QS and I am aware of my limits as regards your professional roles. Some of these roles of a QS cannot be done by even a Cost Engineer that bears so much resemblance to QS. For example, Contract Management, Contract Laws, contract bids and tenders etc, these duties are not done by even cost engineers. You really need to calm down and look your profession over, donot limit yourself to quantities and cost, there are no duplication of roles when it comes to the difference between Cost Engineering and Quantity surveying. This rivalry you seem to have developed has no basis simply because you just feel threatened by a similar but otherwise very different profession that you don't seem to understand.

SammySteve15:Funny enough, both Toyotas on the list would have been on their second engine last lap before the Honda starts smoking. |
ajilegend:Once payment is made, nothing can be changed on that particular license unless you want it reissued which you will pay again. This is why I prefer to edit my data myself, pay and come for capture. |
I have since stopped going to shops to buy electronics.. Jumia don try for me. One thing I enjoy is going to the pick up station at my convenience, pay and take it home and I have 7 days to return back if it is defective. |
NnamdiN:I also never go alone. So that I will have backup even when my mind has been confused with tricks. |
QSFemi:Bros, I get where you are coming from and I get why you have arrived here. First of all, you seem to confuse Construction Estimator (US) and Cost Engineering. US uses Cost/Construction estimator while UK uses Quantity Surveyor which have the same job responsibilities. Why you didn't get to where I expected you to be is as simple as, you think Engineers look down on your profession. But for someone like me who has sat in same class, shared hostel accommodation and kept as best friends, not one but 2 QS guys, I know better than that to know that their profession is actually intricate and could bring such a challenge even bigger than the innovative design of the Burg el Arab. This challenge is the very thing that limits your profession leading to the creation of a more specialised and very narrow Engineering discipline that is birthed by yours. It is the unfortunate reality. Cost Engineering is not a Nigerian thing my brother, please read about it. Its not even common in Nigerian schools for one very obvious reason, it is specific to a discipline unlike QS that is broad. Costing a space ship requires indepth knowledge of the ship. A cost Engineering is a bridge between Engineering and QS having less of both professions. The limitations of your profession is that you provide an essential service to the entire Engineering discipline but cannot keep up with any. At a level, you need the Engineering training to do your job which becomes a challenge. For example, to build a power transmission line, an Electrical engr determines the current, voltage, resistance etc while he works with the material engineer who gives him the type, structure and size of material to use, together they develop the heat limits and behaviour of the material. The civil engr joins them to determine the tensile properties of the material and sagging behaviour under different temperature/wind conditions while determining the reactive forces on the tower and its foundation, tower spacing and height etc, while maintaining required levels of safe electrical ground clearance given by the Electrical Engr. All Engrs work to get a design that fits the electrical engrs vision. At the end, a QS is called to provide a cost estimate but has to do sagging calculations just to get the total length of the cable. These sagging calculations are affected by thermodynamic and others. The QS isn't trained to do sagging templates nor the thermodynamic effects and cannot calculate the length of cable. 2 disciplines can, a Civil or mechanical engineer but not a QS. This gives rise to a new professional who has the sagging calculations abilities and has the QS training. I don't want this to be an argument but I implore you to research the subject, (difference of QS vs Cost Engineering).

MASTAkiLLAh:U no see well. You no know sunshine black again? Come o, na car we dey talk about? Cause I think say Rascal na animal. |
SirMichael1:Pls let her be. You have to get someone. If na me, if the whole thing becomes a success without her input, there will be a wall between us for sometime. |
boay:Technically, they are closely related but not the same. Quantity surveying is mostly related to building but cost engineering relates to engineering projects such as Petroleum Refinery, cement factory, Power generation station, substation or transmission line, ship building, tunnel construction, space ship etc. QS calls their output Bill of Quantities BOQ Cost Engineer calls their output Bill of Engineering Measurement BEME What they do is the same but the scope is different. |
boay:If it were Luminoux International Construction Ltd, you must need an Engineer. Also, your company business as registered with CAC cannot be construction. Most people register as general contractor. |
saydfact:The trend these days is above 3m but I hate it. Depending on the width of the building, anything less than 3m will do. |
soonest:Either way works. However, windows before plaster is secured against vandalism but plaster before windows is neater and requires precision and proned to vandalism. Personally, I love the latter. |
drunkdad:Be determined to be different from your father and uncles. |
true2home:In Nigeria, yes the contractor must not be a professional engineer or Registered Engineer (RE in our case), but his construction must be supervised by an RE who signs an undertaking for the construction. You may never see the RE on site but he is responsible especially for QC/QA. The government inspectors like you are hold the RE responsible for the QC/QA issues. Secondly, every company registered with the government for construction activities must have an Engineer in the board of directors. So an Architect cannot register his own company as a construction company without having an Engr as one of the directors. I have given my credentials to some architects for this purpose. |
