One4me: That is one wickedness this Buhari Govt did to Lagos and the South of Nigeria in general. The Road was designed for 8 Lanes, provison was even made for Light Rail line in it and the project was started by Lagos State and Ogun State Govts (but mostly funded by Lagos, though it is a Federal Road, under President Jonathan).
Buhari came into Power, started a lot of Road projects and completed most in his first term but majority of those are in the North! Through the Fed Min of Works and Transport, they first collected it from lagos and the President said he wont refund any kobo spent on Federal Roads to any State (just as they wont repair the Road themselves and the people suffer).
Then they reduced and narrowed it to TWO LANES, scrapped the Light rail part and other well designed areas! If not that Lagos Govt protested real hard, then it was later returned too 3 Lanes, it would have been two lanes for the part, yet to be completed as at that, after six years!. And to think that this was the major Road that leads Nigeria to Cotonou, a major trade Route? Go and look at the Abuja-kaduna and other Roads in the North, then you will understand that "all Animals are not Equal". I digress, sorry. That Plastic Headpan can easily replace the metallic ones our Bricklayers carry but l hope it is sturdy and tough enough to withstand the abuse and maybe they should shave the price down to like 5K, to encourage patronage.
I support Buhari on relegation of the road. We have far more important roads to build than spend money that will encourage the diversion of imports destined for Nigeria to that country. Besides, the road is targeted by ECOWAS.
Its like government shooting itself in the foot.
I traveled on the Abuja-Kaduna express yesterday, the finished section is like silk. Anyways, I believe that road is more important than the Badagry Road. Cost is another issue. Yes, North gets more roads but do you know why? There's only one reason, it is far cheaper to build a road in the north than the south and the roads in the North last longer too.
If the North and South were allocated ₦100billion each for roads, the north will get close to twice the distance using same amount.
Teaching good precepts... Well, it all depends!
To all of you shouting Poverty mentality... I really do hope you understand that as parents, you are obliged to train your own child the best way you deem fit. The OP has done his own part for the sake of nurturing his child in the way and manner he deems fit... Do your own part for your children, it will all tell in the future.
Receiving the birthday gift isn't the problem here... I think the major problem here is the fact that the gift made the OP look like he couldn't have appreciated his own child more than someone else did.
The mind of that child at such infant age isn't well developed enough to understand the consequential damages that can happen. It's then up to the parent to show the child that parental love is much more valuable than the PS4 itself!
Gbam!
Op didn't teach the child what she actually deserved to know.
Sagay212: If someone can gift their child's classmates a PS4, then it means the school is probably not a cheap school. Someone of you can like to think in weird and poverty stricken ways. It is not by force to reciprocate the gift. The parent who gave out the PS4 is not expecting you to do the same. Allow your child enjoy his/her gift. How do you think the parent will feel with their gift being rejected. You for send your pickin go eleweeran grammar school if you don't want them to mingle with rich kids. I'm sure the kids are not up to 15 in a class. How much be PS4 self. So if you attend a birthday party of a friend and they give you the latest iPhone, you will reject it because you cannot afford to give them same when you celebrate yours? Poverty mentality and fo.olish religious and superstitious sentiments no go kill una finish for this country.
Its the kind of parents that will not give their children sex education and continue to lock the child at home to protect the child. The first opportunity the child has, she is pregnant or he has impregnated a girl.
The lesson op should learn to give is sitting down to talk reality to a child.
If my child asked me how are babies born, will I tell him or tell him never to bring it up?
atiku4President: Good decision u took. I had to stop my children from collecting birthday gifts in school, no matter what the gift is. The school knew about my position and so they always excused my chldren from such gifts. I observed my children and noticed they were happy to obey that instruction, maybe because I took time to explain to them my reasons. I am not persuaded to mention those reasons here because they are my personal convictions and may not be appealing to our present generation of 'parents'. But remember, you can only be sure of yourself. People can go to any extent. So don't raise your children to think the world is full of biscuits and sweets.[/btei Parents should put their eyes on the ground to know the dynamics of the children's learning environment. It's unfortunate most parents, especially, the fathers abandon school runs for the mothers. A lot go on in the school environment that ultimately determine what a school represents. Sometimes, a group of high-minded parents can indirectly take over the school management from school proprietors and start influencing every decision taken, from school uniforms to send-off parties. Parents must be seen to be part of their children's decisiion making at their formative stage.
@ bolded
So its better to raise children to think the world is full of bitter cola and bitter leaf right?
Absolutely not.
You teach the child to know there are biscuits, sweets and bitter leaf and bitter cola.
Teach your child to control their desire for those items they see their friends with. They themselves will eventually learn not to envy.
Sebastine1994: Please schools should stop celebrating birthdays in school, please, biko. I use God beg you.
I sent my child to school to learn and not to celebrate birthdays, I came back from work one day and saw this play station 4 in a carton, I asked them who own. they said my daughter classmates celebrated her birthday and shared these gift to them.
I quickly ask them to reparkage the gift and take it back to the school, before I return from work the next day.
MY REASON IS THIS: all fingers are not equal, when it is my daughter's birthday they would be expecting a gift of equal amount.
The parent may be rich and I am not, they give my child what I can't afford for her which is a recipe for greed. she should be contented with what I can afford,
These her young mind should be moulded early to adapt to reality.
These private schools are encouraging these evil act, it may affect the child tommorow.
please push to front page to expose the dangers of school birthday.
Even though your intentions are good, your action in my opinion will mess up your young child.
Is it a crime to give gifts? If no, it is certainly not a crime to be a recipient of a gift.
There is a very thin line between desire and envy. Your child needs to learn the difference.
Your actions is extreme, that which could give her inferiority complex.
What happened to talking to a child at his or her level. I teach my children when they ask for Ice cream, I tell them that I cant afford it always and it is not good for them too frequently. I tell them to pray for me to get money to buy Ice-cream, clothing, bicycle, school fees etc. When you ask my children to pray today, they will ask God to provide for Mummy and Daddy so that they will go to school and get all they want.
You can't protect your child by shielding the child from reality. You will be confusing them.
I'd rather you tell your child how very expensive the gift was and how hard she needs to study to afford it. Also tell her to appreciate the giver and then give her rules of playing it.
What you did isn't fair at all. Your daughter did't steal or beg for it. Your daughter will definitely not understand why you did that no matter how you explain. Next time, she may even hide the gift from you or reject it.
adanny01: When I buy brake pads for N4,500. It costs me N500 to pay my mechanic to install them. But no, I take it home and install myself. Its not about the N500 installation fee.
80% of the time I wash my car myself. Its not about the N500 fee.
Within this same period that I created this thread, I have painted a car. I have the painter's number to call him?
Do you drive? I guess yes. Why do drive? As in, why don't you hire a driver instead of driving yourself? Its just 40k a month am sure you can afford it. You get what I mean?
In my own case, clearly I can't afford 60k for a paint job, do you want to volunteer? I would gladly, accept and appreciate your offer.
As an update to the thread, I have ordered 2 items and it has been 2months now, no show. Stuffs i ordered February were refunded last month, its not easy to get what I want.
Besides, after my accident, I have bought a bumper, headlight, bumper bracket, inner fender mudliner and engine splash shield. All I need is to drop the car with my panel beater in Jos.
If at any point I cannot proceed as planned, I would have no regrets to call it off. I have seen far more expensive ventures on NL that have not yielded desired results. I know when to quit except if you order me to quit by stepping up right now.
It will be transparent to notify that stuffs I ordered February and was refunded later arrived 7 months later.
ShinnBet: That should tell you they don't know jack.
Where did the fuel disappear to ?
The pilot was on schedule as there was no time delay .
He obviously jettisoned his fuel in anticipation of a crash
Did you read that the AC has endurance of 3.24hrs or not?
Did you read that the AC was test flown for 20mins or not?
Did you read that the pilot took off 9.20 and crash 12.14 or not? What's the time in between?
2hrs54mins plus 20mins. 3hrs14mins.
The pilot wrote an endurance of 3.15hrs. with what has happened, it means theoretically, he crashed with 1min of fuel. But no, the engine was ran for 15mins.
Can't you do the math or be at least reasonable. Or are you disputing the flight times too?
Doesn't this proofs why the tank was empty? Look at this thing logically.
AuroraBrls: I am instinctively convinced that your take on the event timeline and perception of the regulatory bodies is correct as well as truthful.
Please what's your opinion on this piece of puzzle, what's the essence of getting into a contraption( plane or heli ), whether as driver or rider, wherein you are 100% certain that in the event of a crash, you can't parachute out/eject, and that your chances of survival is almost zero?
Something must kill a man but is it really worth the gamble with this flying thing. There has been huge advances in technology lately, what is the big deal in infusing an ejection/parachuting mechanism in airplanes and helix, just like in fighter jets.
Then your instincts are wrong this time. If you compare his post to the opening post, he has contradicted it several times.
On your questions, I have never flown in a helicopter, but the I dread the very day I will be required to fly in it. An aeroplane is quite safer by design.
Reference: Totally agree. Happens once a while. Miscalculation, faulty guages, corner cutting, many things happen. The chartered flight that crashed in Brazil carrying the Chapecoense team a few years ago had the same issue, corner cutting in not carrying the mandatory fuel reserves...
When an aircraft goes down and breaks apart completely without igniting a fire, it is most likely the tanks are empty.
I also agree with him.
AIB said the aircraft has an endurance of.3.24h and the pilot filed 3.15h.
The aircraft was fueled a day prior which means he has either 3.24h or 3.15h of flight.
On flight day, the engine was ran for 10mins and subsequently flown 20mins for a test.
The aircraft engine was started at 9.15, took off at 9.20 and crash 12.14. That is 2.54hrs of flight.
That brings the total to 15mins of engine running and 3.14hrs of flight. Add 15mins of engine running, 3.29hrs which is above the endurance of the aircraft. Any miscalculation or extra load meant that the flight was doomed and the pilot took a big risk.
The crash itself gave evidence to this theory, there was supposed to be fire fueled by the fuel but there was none.
There is no way on earth this man has the interest of the people.
He should have said this a week ago but now that he is back, the business is not delivering promises but dealing with those who caused him trouble. By the time he is through, it will be 2024, another wasted 4 years.
2016, he was a product of Godfatherism. 2020, he is a product of anti APC movement and of the killer Godfather, Wike. 2024, he will be a Godfather to his successor.
Meanwhile, his records will still not surpass that of his estranged Godfather.
VEE2010: In my own assessment of the entire processes preceding and post election can be summarized as follows:
1. Most people supported Obaseki not because he will transform Edo state overnight but simply because, they want to make a clear statement to the federal government in protest of their misrule. 2. The people are tired of undue interference and results manipulation by Godfathers. 3. Imposition of unpopular candidates to the electorates 4. Warning from the international community (Visa bans and other sanctions that may come as consequences) 5. Undue involvement of political gladiators from the west especially the Ambode treatment 6. Karma to Oshiomhole who openly denigrated Chief Anenih then want to play the same politics he criticized 7. The recent increase of fuel and energy tariff also impacted the popularity of APC as a party 8. Sympathy votes to Obaseki to compensate him for the broad daylight humiliation meted on him by APC 9. Wike's influence given his efforts on infrastructural development in Rivers State. Most people believed that, a friendly collaboration with Rivers may attract same measures of infrastructural development to Edo state. 10. The resentment of the people regarding the security situation in the country also a factor. Seeing all those angry and hungry looking security personnel also increase the protest. 11. Open protest is blocked by APC so peoples' freedom of speeches are no longer guaranteed hence they secretly aired their views through the ballots 12. Money bags and and offsite comprises and commitments here and there. 13. More importantly, The God factor - destiny!
Sleevia: From all indications, Obaseki has won this election but two things stood out unexpectedly
1. It was generally peaceful
2. There was zero federal might influence.
What do you think is the reason behind this?
I would hazard a guess and I am open to correction.
A: The U.S visa ban restricted federal influence, which Oshiomole, Ganduje and Tinubu were banking on. I was on twitter when I read that order has been given that there should be no interference in the election. This was why, after votes at the PU were done, all security agents, from Army to Police and others LEFT.
B. The Oba of Benin meeting. Before the election, Oba invited both contestants for a meeting where he specifically warned against violence in whatever form. I often read from outsiders that Oba of Benin is just like any oba out there but what majority do not know is the weight the Oba of Benin carries among his people and this election further proved that.
Since the APC took power, this is the most peaceful election we have had...
The question is WHY?
Please join the discussion and I would like to learn from other persons and correct me where you feel I am wrong.
omanzo02: I know you may not see the overkill.... it's only a critical, concious and focus person will see that. Every apartment are designed to specifically target a group of people/family, so a 2 bedroom apartment with 1toilet and bathroom for a family of 7 person won't work well without patience unless he well to do to upgrade to a bigger one1, but they may not need anything more than 1 bathroom and 2 toilets (family & visitors toilets), you don't use the bathroom(shower) much than toilet daily.
Having sweet wild dreams is any persons right though, but being complacent is entirely different from being comfortable. While your hard earned money can make you believe being inherently deserving of privilege or special treatment the question is is that REALLY necessary?
Say its a family with 2 children and a maid.
All must go out in the morning to work and school at the same time. Don't you think that 1 bathroom will create serious issues for the family even when other living conditions are perfectly ok for them?
Paying rent is also the tenant's hard earned money as well as the landlord's hard earned investment, remember that.
If a tenant prefers a house with 2 wc and bathroom for his own comfort, its his right and his money. If you a landlord feels a tenant doesn't deserve the comfort, please build what you can, the appropriate tenant for you is out there.
My grouse is you advising a willing landlord not to make his own tenant comfortable or even having the opinion that those who live in a 2 bedroom and require more bathrooms, should upgrade.
Remember, only a satisfied and comfortable tenant renews his rent promptly.
Referring to a paying tenant's comfort as wild dreams is beneath you.
bebe2: am not happy with the 3WC in my plan, i think its an overkill. how can you be renting a 2 bedroom flat for 300k and be looking for masters ensuite and separate toilet for visitor?
Madam, don't listen to what people say when you are doing the right thing.
Put yourself in a 2 bedroom flat, would you rather have a visitor in your bedroom to use your restroom or in your 1wc bathroom?
If the trend is having a visitors toilet, would you risk not having one.
My uncle has 2 properties, one has 6 units of 2bedroom flats and 2 units of 1bedroom flat while the other has 8units of 2bedroom flats. Out of the 14 2bedroom flats, only 3 have been occupied consecutively in the last 3 years. Of course all units have 1 wc and bathroom.
So even though they are 2 bedroom, the number of toilets is the main attraction. The mistake is considering his property a 2 bedroom with a 2 bedroom price tag that is same as the ones ensuite.
Trust me you don't wanna put your property at a disadvantage. 11 units of my uncle have been empty for over 2yrs now.
omanzo02: A client may a have a request but it's the duty of the architect to let the client know the usefulness, cost, maintenance, functionality and flexibility. An experienced architect once told me never design a bedroom or garage that you cannot convert to an office or a house you can not sell in the future. 3WC and 2 bathrooms in 2 bedroom is an overkill.
I still can't see the over kill.
I have seen tenants moving out of a 2 bedroom flat just because the could not manage with 1WC and bathroom.
In many of the houses with visitors toilet, this toilet ends up being the most used toilet especially because of its proximity to family living area.
I have seen tenants pay more just to have more toilets. Tenants pay more to have POP rather than PVC.
Is it that a person living in a 2 bedroom flat is not entitled to a comfortable home or what exactly?
So, I can't see your point please state it clearly.
Even the last US electronic elections was allegedly rigged. The problem is that there is usually no evidence. Nigeria unlike the US will not accept such result and would lead to chaos.
No matter what the new generation knows, the old generation knows some things better.
majamajic: Oh just like that of chief justice to , do they provide the original date of resume ? No
Do you know what Civil or public service is?
Every one must have a service appointment letter and date of birth. Every one has 35yrs of service that ends after the 35yrs or less if the person attained the age of 60yrs before the 35yrs of service is due.
For years in your service you fill hundreds of forms and documents always stating your date of first appointment or attaching copy of first appointment.
It's a punishable offence to exceed by even 1day except if extended by the Executive, President or Governor.
What do you think happens during every promotion process he has been. Imagine the records of his date of birth/date of first appointment inn so many offices and being handled by hundreds of officers who have or had his records. To go back and start delete such records is near impossible. For him to spend one more day in office, the president has to give him a waiver.
Your 1st comment sounds like you know how strict retirement issues are but for this comment, you actually don't.
Appointments are easier to deal with than retirement and the affected retires know the implications of staying 1more day in office.
You think the AIG is not feeling bad right now, it was his last opportunity to make money off politicians but he knows his time has ran out.
Ask any two police constables, they all have memorised their police service numbers and they know their seniority even by the number.
majamajic: U mean his mandatory 35yrs ends today ? 2 days to election What a coincidence ! Wow
Yea, it looks like a coincidence but this kind of thing can be hard to fake. That means changing a whole lot of public records to keep him beyond the date.
If Buhari were to order his extension of service, this thread will be full of the same kind of comments if not more. NLers would say, Buhari is keeping him for a reason.
