This thread reminds me of the Hausa proverb again, "rashin sani, bako ya sha ruwan wanka - out of ignorance the visitor drank bath water".

We saw a gear box wrapped in nylon, then we saw the drive shaft removed and 2 weeks on, we are expecting to be shamed by a smooth moving ride but i guess the engine has even refused to start.

This visitor to the automotive world is drunk on bath water.

I’m sure these projects had monitoring and evaluations officers assigned to them. Why did they keep quite at the face of such massive fraud?
Dey there dey talk. My company was the consultant to one of these companies. To be honest the corruption in NDPHC will leave gapping mouths if fully openned. Even their employment is a family affair.

My company withdrew from Nigeria because they couldn't deal with the excessive corruption. The head office kept sending its staff to Nigeria but most of them having worked in Europe and Asia set standards for contractors to follow but the client will interfere. One by one they all gave up and returned to the countries.

In a meeting, I once wondered why one particular issue was still a problem and no one was asking questions. When I spoke, the meeting shut down because the truth was hidden until a site man like me dropped the whole truth. They were looking at me like saying "who is this ignorant Engineer".

A former Minister's media team interviewing me on tape stopped the tape immediately i mentioned one detail. His PA told me never to make such comments in public again. What i was saying was the fact but no one wants to listen.

If monitoring and evaluation teams come, they are faced with cash gifts they cannot refuse and so the corruption continues.

Truth be told, Nigerians are the ones killing Nigeria.

Your brother's money is not your money!
just develop your self and live in contempt as long as you have good health and meet your basic needs.
as for your brother, keep in touch, wish him happy birthday and notify him of basic developments in your life. he will do the same as long as you don't turn him to ATM or he'll keep avoiding you.
nobody owes you anything, not even your brother!
As a Christian, my brother's money is my money based on

1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Christianity doesn't treat kindly those who for one reason or the other refuse to help their own relatives especially the immediate family.

Good morning Nairalanders.
Please I want to buy a very good car but I'm lost as to what car to buy. My budget is between 1.3m and 1.5m. I need your opinions please putting into consideration fuel economy etc.

Thank you in anticipation.
I am also lost on how to advise you.

People are different, one likes Honda, another likes Toyota others like Benz etc. I have no idea what car you admire or your maintenance skills to properly suggest. I dont even know if you want toks or local used, high fuel efficiency or performance.

Make a broad choice then we narrow it for you. Broad means choose 5-10 cars and we may drop it to 1-3.
Events › Re: How Do You Feel When A Billionaire Speaker Makes Very Short Speech At An Event? by adanny01(m): 7:10am On Oct 25, 2019
H100:
Personal Experience

Last week, someone in my family informed me that an extremely well-known billionaire (who will not be named) was going to be in town for a speaking event - and my family member had tickets. I remember thinking: "How cool is this? I always see them on TV! It will be amazing to see them speak in person!" The event was marketed towards people seeking success, and it seemed like it was going to be a motivational/uplifting occasion.

The day of the event came and it was a full house. We were lucky and got there early - we were sitting in the second row! The energy was palpable and I kept thinking to myself, this is going to be great. The time finally came. The host came out, introduced himself, gave some background on his success, and tied in how he works with the billionaire who will not be named. I will say this host was the epitome of what a speaker should be: high-energy, and intriguing. It made me even more excited.

The grand moment arrived, Billionaire stepped out onto the stage and I could not believe it. He was right. there. Spoke of his rags to riches story, which I will say is truly inspiring. He told stories. Made us laugh. And exited the stage after about 10 minutes.

I quickly began to grow disappointed, realizing most of this event will be with other keynote speakers - none of which I (or my family member) was familiar with. However, I wanted to give these speakers a fair chance. Maybe they'd say something that was of value. Maybe there was at least one golden nugget they could give me. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Most of this event came to be a real estate seminar, to put it simply. No disrespect to anyone in real estate, but I have zero interest in making a career of it. Sparing you all the frustrating and boring details, this seminar came off as an awful pitch for a (pricey) 3-day course on real estate. I thought to myself: "You have got to be kidding me".

My family member and I ended up walking out of the event, as we realized this was not going to be what we expected. It did make for an interesting conversation on the ride back home.

This person is a billionaire. They are highly-respected and yes, famous. Why would they feel the need to prey on people by selling them this perfect image? That if they attend this 3-day course, they WILL be able to purchase real estate and they WILL make lots of money from it. This Billionaire has money - why feel the need to continue feeding his wallet in such a seedy manner?

I felt like a fool. The event had been marketed in such a way that was 100% misleading. It led me to wonder why people who reach Billionaire level come to this? If I was someone with success of that magnitude and had the platform to reach such a large number of people, I wouldn't want to sell fake dreams. I'd use it to truly, genuinely inspire people. Give them that small push they may just need. No fluff, no nonsense. No "classes" or seminars. Just a straight-forward, real conversation. Maybe a story I share or something I say could inspire someone to go out and do it.

I don't know if I will ever have that kind of reach, but I'd like to think that if I did, I wouldn't lose myself or my integrity.

SOURCE >>> SELF TRUTHS
Speaking about the bolded, I have concluded that most billionaires do not become what they are because of hardwork only, they mostly have the desire to make money and have the mindset to make money without regard or pity. They do not know what is right or fair, they take, take and take from whoever, whatever and wherever. They are always extremely selfish.

Thank you for your definition of what an Engineer is as a noun.well in the weswt they do not believe in this formal Education University stuff as we do in Nigeria, they believe in practical and waht you can do on the day rather than the paper called certificate. That being said there is a big market on training on the job to get the skills and required training need to get certified.you do not neeed BSc in the west. There are loads of vocational sturdies!!!
I think you are missing the point. Let me try again.

The title Engineer is found in several professions. This is not just a Nigerian issue. Yes, Nigerians give undue recognition to titles but it doesn't mean we should use those titles anyhow. I have worked with Europeans who have never refer to themselves as Engineers as the title is being used in Nigeria but these guys have 40-60yrs professional experience. In their country, a Bachelor's degree is called a Diploma. Their profession is still Engineering and they are qualified Engineers.

All these being said, if you as an Engr wish to use the Title Engr instead of Mr. you need the law to back you up. An artisan cannot use that title unless he is qualified and the law gives him the title.

Now to analogies.
A law graduate is a lawyer but a law graduate called to bar is a Barrister! A lawyer can never be a Barrister without the bar (law) that gives him the right to bear the title.
A medical school graduate is not a Doctor until he has appropriately taken the oat.
A Professor is a professional rank and the title can only be used when the senate of awarding institution confers the title.
A person elected to the Senate cannot be called a Senator until he is sworn to office.
An Engineering school graduate is not an engineer until the title awarding body appropriately gives him the certification to bear the title.

Every other Title that any person can bear before his name has to be given by law.

You are in the UK and I believe you should be privy to how a person can earn the tilte Sir or Lord. Can anyone by himself award such title?

An Engineer is a title and has to be awarded by an instrument of the law. Therefore there are rules on who is qualified and who is not in every single title you can name.

You still do not get it, you are talking from assumption.I do not need to be a certified Engineer to build a new machine and train more Engineers to maintain it.If you check from history the great inventors where never certified Engineers.
Now you did make some points that I found valid though. But I maintian the word you was looking for is Certified Engineer. The reason why you would need a certified Engineer would be Jobs that required certification, or for legal reasons. ie Insurance etc or government legislature..
I am a Uk certified Enginer,Im a fluid Engineer so I deal with Flued Mechanics.I carry out test and certification with major fleets on thier hydrolic systems. At teh end I put a sticker o n them to certify them legal to operate. Now if these Hydrolic systems goes faulty you do not need me to come fix it,the guys who fix them are not certified Engineers like me,But they still are Engineers.I dont know if this is clear enough.
Building a new machine that has never been made makes you an inventor not an engineer.

The term Engineer is related to the certification one carries which is the symbol of responsibility given by law. An Engineer should not exist without backing from the law. The title is awarded only based on established professional training and skill not your job or abilities or responsibility.

With regards to the law, only a person certified to be called an engineer is empowered to carry lawful instruments to allow the practice or in your case the operation of hydraulic equipment.

You dont have to attach the word certified to engineer to give it a meaning. An Engineer by law is certified while that person that is not certified is not an engineer.

Your point about engineers not existing in history does not hold water since even Nigeria as a country didn't exist at several points in history. The fact that ancient engineers were not called Engineer doest not change anything. Doctors also didn't exist in history but we had physicians.

Am sure you know the difference between a lawyer and a Barrister. These professional names are symbols of the law which created them and their responsibilities.

You are extremely wrong there, anyone who can Engineer anything perfect is an Engineer, however, I think the word you were looking for is A QUALIFIED ENGINEER. This is the Difference, we as Nigerians should desist that school of thought which tend to think its only those with certificate are worthy to be called Engineers nop, all maintenance personal in various industries in the west are mostly called Engineers even though they trained on the JOBB.
Engineer

noun. a person trained and skilled in the design, construction, and use of engines or machines, or in any of various branches of engineering: a mechanical engineer; a civil engineer. a person who operates or is in charge of an engine. Also called locomotive engineer.
Training and skill is what a professional is. To be called an engineer in Nigeria, the minimum training required is a Bachelor's degree or a post graduate degree in an engineering related field.

Those who trained on the job with no training are called artisans. The next level are the Technicians then the technologist . Each require a minimum level of training such as a Diploma and Higher diploma respectively.

Car Talk › Re: Are China Made Tyres Good? by adanny01(m): 1:34pm On Oct 17, 2019
For me, I won't vouch for any China tire.

The tire i hate most is maxtrek followed by Tripple A then Double king. I have seen worst of these tires. Others are Aeolus and Boto. These tires wear physically, i mean you can make a trip and come back and the naked eye will see how one trip wore the tire thread down. The worst is maxtrek that will just bend the steel belts and the car will never be smooth even at very new thread. Infact, with maxtrek you will need to go for wheel balance every week (not kidding).

I can only manage Starfire or Hifly. I hear Goodride is good too.

Stephani3e:
I noticed that most guys hate the idea of their friends dating their sisters. Some would even threaten their friend to stay away from their sisters.

Most guys even if their friend is the last male on Earth they would prefer their sisters to be a nun instead.
Friends keep secrets as well as partners.

In this case, one person should not be responsible for secrets of 2 people that are brother and sister.

Look at it this way, if my friend cheats on his girlfriend, I have no obligation to caution him or tell his girlfriend. But when it my sister that is his girlfriend he cheats, I wont be cool with it. That will also mean my friendship with him is in jeopardy.

Effectively, we seize to be close friends when you start dating my sister.

Infact, my friend and I dated sisters, it ended up bad. My friend was dating the older while I the younger. The older will not go to a party her younger sister is going while me and my friend both need our girlfriends at the party. The real complication was that my friend was in a serious relationship (married with 3 kids now) while I was just having fun. Our relationships kind of interfered in an unhealthy way until I broke up with the younger sister then their relationship soared.

I greet everyone here specially. Recently my charger got bad, as a result I intend buying new one. Pls I need u guys help in buying good charger( fast charge) that can charge my hot 5 fast. Thanks waiting for recommendations.

NB: I only have 1.5k as budget.
Look for a charger that has Adaptive Fast Charging

It will have output in this format

5.0V - 2.5A
9.0V - 2A

This will give you the max 18watts unless if you have a Quick charge 4.0 phone which can do 12V - 2A for up to 27watts.

Dont forget that not all brands will be able to deliver up to their specified ratings.

I am using an original Samsung car charger I bought foreign used with Adaptive fast charging and even the follow come charger cannot beat it.

Go to Aliexpress, Amazon etc and read reviews on particular brands to get the best.

it was an oversight, but same principle applies, Manual compressor is much more durable than Automatic Compressor for Toyota Corolla, there is nothing to argue about that. Yes Auto sound smoother, but the gas gets weaker over time because of the embedded technology, take an example of your Refrigerator at home, your AC at home, its compressors are mostly Manual, try to compare it with the recent Automatic, yes it cools but gradually fades away. Manual is better but since we all want to belong, oyinbo had to work out a new technology at a cost for us which in the long run did not defeat the aim.
If you are an engineer, you should be able to understand the difference between durability and efficiency.

Manual compressor is durable but not efficient while Auto compressor is efficient but not as durable.

Personally, i want ti buy a car as close to factory as it can be. So you should not tell me that because you have removed the auto compressor for a manual then it is better. Engineering wise, the Auto is better, the final choice is for whoever is buying the car.

For your own information, Oyinbo never left Manual, it is Lagosians that left Manual, automatic is just an alternative for the lazy ones, that does not mean it is a substandard, get exposure, Expatriates in my office prefers Manual cars, we had to compel some of them to buy Auto here, Go to france, a lot of Oil and gas guys there prefers manual, you see, Nigerians in their poor state still want to form as if someone will give you award for buying Auto. In france, you see Managers prefers that the train drops them like two bust stop to their actual destination, so that they can exercise their legs back home, but in Nija, they will expect you to drop them on their street, no wonder the ideal of Automatic enters our head as if Auto cars is the best, never you think that way. Why do you have HILUX as Manual, can you ever compare its Auto to that of Manual? never.
You really don't deserve to be an Engr if you cannot even read a very simple 2 sentence comment and understand what I am saying.

I was referring to manual and Auto compressor not transmission as you misunderstood.

You need to take a chill pill bro. You've been misfiring lately.

. Thanks for your observations, First AC compressor is better as Manual for so many reasons, it does not go bad, it uses magnetic clutch, while the Auto uses internal sensor, that is the difference., you can easily detect a fault on Manual, but in auto, you will have to buy every other thing, waste your gas before you detect the fault. Go and find out from good Togolese Engineers, Automatic Compressor does not last, it easily wear out. This is what Gazzuzz will not tell you.
If what you are saying is true, then Toyota would not have left the manual compressor design for the automatic? You dont even sound like and Engineer.
