Overdrive , mostly found on auto trannies,engages the last gear, lowers the rpm while ensuring gas consumption is reduced at that high speed

I think its the other way round.

Over drive simply means to delay gear shift or in other case downshift.

If normally the conditions for shifting from gear 2-3 is 3000rpm at a particular throttle position plus other conditions, over drive will increase the conditions of shifting to 3500rpm for example.

This gives the driver more power to play with but annoying if you are driving normally on OD since it will delay the shift unnecessarily and consuming more fuel than normal.

Honda for instance, instead of giving a driver the OD option prefers to offer you the option of manually shifting at your desired RPM hence the D, D3, 2, 1. Toyota gives the OD which does same thing although automatically. OD should shift your gear down to 3 if on 4 or to 2 from 3.

1. There is a price we pay for trying not to be cheated when dealing with Nigerian Artisans. Being too wise can be costly too.

2. It's mere foolishness to think you can outsmart an artisan or any professional in their field.

If you don't trust an artisan and his/her price, go elsewhere. Never be tempted to try buy materials for yourself.

Worse still, you source for materials and they tell you you bought inferior ones to make you feel bad and exonerate themselves if whatever they did got spoilt fast - Oluwapelumi Awotedu.

I make serious research, estimates and calculations before I call an artisan. Most cases, they cut cap for me and beg me to reconsider and add a little money because they eventually make too little. I oblige and they respect me for paying more than we agreed.

The only problem is, it makes me slow. Also, lack of experience will cause one to lose money, so I know when to trust an artisan.

I am certain if it were a Toyota, you will be buying another engine but Honda engines are die hard.

Funny enough, 2005 Honda Civic has better fuel efficiency than both.

I get it, you are hurt and insulted by their actions.

However, dont make a fuss about it. The biological father has rights you dont have, so dont go down that way.

I suggest you guys sit her down and tell her. She will most probably wanna meet her dad, you better let her. She is not a lottle girl and you have done the best for her. If she appreciates, she will treat you guys as her first and only family. You cant force anything on her since she will in a few years have full right to choose where she lives.

Sit her down in a family meeting style and drop the news and tell her the family who want her now didn't want her when she was still in the womb and for the 16years of her life until now.

Tell her you are not letting her go, and would fight them with every thing you have but she has to decide to be with the only family she has ever know.

I trust that she will do the right thing. Most kids in such situations will just want to meet with their other family and get over the feeling of not knowing.

I have never been this confused in my life. I started dating my girl like 3 months ago. This is a girl that is committed to Gods things and firmly stands on christian value and principle in her dealings all around.

Since I saw the message, I have been muttering to my self about what could actually be the real reasons for such spontaneous decision. Though when I pressured her about the real reasons for this action, she told me that a guy broke her heart in 2017, and since that time she has been finding it difficult to love.

Pls how can I handle this situation ? I love this girl genuinely and at the same time, at this stage of my life, I don't want to waste anytime by making repetitive appeal and persuasion in hope that probably she is gonna change her mind...

You actually missed the original question i was replying to.

The question was if a structural steel member can be used to replace reinforcement steel in a reinforced concrete design?

In composite design, the structural steel and reinforced concrete are independent of each other but used together to achieve a combined and greater load carrying ability.

The second picture you posted has A, B C and D composite structural members having both reinforced concrete and structural steel. All four structural members carry reinforcement steel and structural steel. What the original question asked was if the reinforcement steel could be removed and then the structural steel serves as reinforcement to the concrete.

Removing the reinforcement steel as the op suggested will reduce the composite member to an effective structural steel member since the reinforced concrete is reduced to just concrete.

Think of it this way, op asked if a car's engine can be replaced with a horse, you are saying a car can be even made to fly.

Sadness is the main symptom of depression. Pls google Clinical depression and compare the symptoms to what you are feeling.

My take is that, as long as you cannot point to a reason that you want to break off a supposedly good relationship and that the thought of it makes you sad, i think you are doing that subconsciously which seem to me like depression. Even though i didn't expected that you'd be depressed for days in a row to have generated and excuted the thought if it was not a spontaneous thing.

It is illogical to break of a relationship that doesn't hurt you, doesn't affect you or goes against your principles, has no conflict with anything you do or believe in. You didn't complain the guy or the relationship at all so I assume he is a good candidate to get married to and all of a sudden, you want to quit and even thinking of changing your number, girl there is a big red flag there.

You need a reason to explain the breakup, if nothing, I think you are depressed.

Its not you, its the depression, its a sickness and has medication. Just like having suicidal thoughts in can be medically treated.

Its good you realized there is a problem.

When I was working and living away from my family, i get depressed most times from staying alone. Those times were rough for me, i did all sort of things, drink, get bad company, generally break my own rules. One medication helped (banned now and seriously addictive) and it was self medication but I had very good self control to have limited its use. So I would never recommend it, see a professional for your own case.

The Accord in the picture is bought brand new in Nigeria. I think those sold in Nigeria are Asia Pacific models.

I hold that opinion because Japan/Euro Accord of the same year is a different car. The Japan/Euro model is similar to the Acura TSX sold in North America.

The North American version of the Accord doesn't have an i-VTEC badge on the body. That badge is found on the Nigerian brand new version. The North American version is the same to the Asia Pacific model so this model would not be a US model but manufactured in Thailand.

I think brand new Honda sold in Nigeria comes from the Ayutthaya plant in Thailand.

That been said VTEC means Variable Timing Electronically Controlled and iVTEC means intelligent Variable Timing Electronically Controlled.

The downside of this car will be higher cost of plant specific parts such as engine, ECU, body parts. The Northern American models are important more than any other.

Please something has been troubling my mind. I'm currently constructing a three bedroom bungalow with concrete fascia ( parapet). The seasoned engineer handling the project refused to include any pillars on the foundation, saying there is no need.

For the past 2 hours I have been going through different pages of several projects here on this section of nairaland and I cannot say I'm not scared my foundation is without any form of pillars. I don't know if it's because he used 9" blocks on all outside walls.

Please I don't want my house to collapse. Please kindly let me know if there is anything I can still do. Or if the pillars can at this point be included. I'm scared please.

I just filled the foundation with sand. That's the stage the project is at currently.

You have no issues if blinding concrete was done well. The next thing to watch out is mortar for block choking. You can use a mix ratio of 1:4. Lastly, do a chain lintel.

Pillars (columns) by design best carries mostly axial loads. They can be designed to carry bending moment and transverse loads but will carry far more axial loads than it would bending or transverse loads. Pillars used for a bungalow in 95% of the cases is over design. It is unnecessary and a waste. Parapet is a small load that can be uniformly distributed onto the walls but the issue in most cases is the bending moment created by too much parapet overhang.
