If only you know there are people who walked with burden more heavier than yours, you will fall down and thank God.....

You goofed your first admission ba??

Still got another and you have parents who are willing to spend on you...

Put yourself in the shoes of smarter kids who had no one to pay their tuition ..

Be grateful!!!
@YoungandDepressed,

This guy here just told you my story in a very very abridged way.

I thank God for you bro...You still have parents who got your back. Some people are going through similar situation you're passing through all alone as orphans. Imagine your life without Mom and Dad.

My strong advise for you is to leverage on having both parents alive and hearty to learn a trade bcuz I can't see you handling the true realities of the Nigerian labour market after graduating from the University. Your parents will still feed you and help you with commuting fares to your place of work until you start making money for yourself.

It's still very good that you're 23 before asking all these questions. Some will not realize until they're 35. Congratulations to you bro. Am happy you're discovering yourself at almost the right age

All I.T Skills are lucrative at any time, but the challenge is you must be well trained to be at least a Professional before seeking employment.
I don't know of any real I.T Pros who doesn't earn 7- 8 figures yearly.

I'm sure you'll wonder who is a Professional as many always claim they are one.

The I.T levels (According to me)
.

1. Associate (More like a Beginner) in Nigeria most at this level doesn't have a chance at all, because the competition level is high.

2. Professional (A good level to seek employment) This level proof you have 3-5 years experience on the subject matter (though you don't really need to spend 3-5 years in training).
3. Expert (Consultants) It means you are authority in your choosen field.

Pls whatever I.T skills you later want to settle for, just don't waste your money on quickies (2 wks or 1 month) training.
Get Trained by the Pros It maybe time consuming but the reward his high.

Stay Blessed!!!
Bro, I'm at that beginners stage and I understand there's no cutting corners in IT bcuz it's a competence based field. Hence I agree with you 100% that one needs to be trained by experts who are established in the field and more like being mentored all through.

The challenge for many who fall in my category has been getting a lead who's ready to sacrifice little of their time for newbies like me albeit their very busy schedules. My mentor in the field I currently in Malta where he works as an expatriate.

If you know any Nairalander who can be my guide on this path, plz refer me.

Thank you.

OP,

I understand exactly how it feels as someone who's had similar experience with a leading bank in Nigeria too. Although, I started and finished my 5 years banking career as a contract staff in a very Okay department but the story is very much alike bcuz contract jobs are dead end jobs... At least in Nigeria.

Since you've got businesses to pay your bills, I think you're well placed to horn a skill, and there's nothing stopping you from delving into IT if that's what you want.

I will suggest a few that might not take much of your time to learn...and top of my list is Database Administration. You can Google what it takes to be a database administrator to get started.

Another one that might appear slightly easier is to learn UI/UX. It means user interface and user experience. This skill is good for people who are naturally good designers.

There's also frontend web developer and back-end web developer.... And over time you can up your game and become a full stack developer (that's for someone who has a combination of frontend and back end skills).

Those are like the easiest I know of but the big fish in IT will require lengthy time and resources to be market ready. Those are software engineering and development (cross platform), Business analytics (i.e as a data scientist), Artificial intelligence and robotics, and so on.

Am on course to becoming a frontend developer myself and I can tell you it's not been easy. It requires extraordinary courage and zeal to remain focused while learning online on your own without being pressured by anyone.

@OP,

Pls keep me posted on what you finally settled for and I won't mind if we can create a group or community of IT enthusiasts who are coming into the field as newbies. This is to encourage each other and learn from the group as well as creating a healthy competition to spur us on.

Lemme know what you think about it.

Lots of you see online work (yahoo) most time like its all about scamming people of their money or riches meanwhile there are more to it than just that. I don’t have the time Forbes this bullshit explanation but I will write few words just to enlighten you.
Here’s it.
My name is A and I’m into online work (yahoo), I met a client (let’s call her/him B) online and we started talking and maybe dating. I can get her account detail and money is wired there while she transfer the money to me and I give her part of it but don’t forget the money isn’t always in dollars and that’s why I needed a white Man picture to communicate so she can trust me easily. Then after her account is been loaded with let’s say 2k dollars. She’ll transfer the money to my address and when I convert to Naira it becomes more huge. So tell me where I ripped her off her wealth or where I scammed her.
Wetin Musa no go see for gate...

The 2k USD that was credited into your white friend's acct was from heaven abi? And why do you need to use another person's face or identity to get trust? Why don't you build your reputation to that height that will get you legit clients that will be ready to do legitimate business with you?

Going by the height of moral decadence in our society today, will it not be nice for someone to start planning an exit strategy from this identity called Nigeria?

It's seeming like the country has now decayed beyond redemption.

SportsRe: Who Knows The Reasons Behind This Weird Occurrence About Nigeria Football Player by Ade3131: 7:10am On Jul 13, 2020
Footballers play for 3 things; Money, fame and trophies. But unfortunately, due to our elongated suffering and poverty ridden mindset and upbringing, our footballers stop playing as soon as they achieve the first on the list.... remember virtually all the Naija based players have one suffering story or the other to tell.

That's why many make their way to Europe, sign their first pro contract and that marks the end... Only a few fraction of Nigeria players abroad make fame while a very small percentage of those who made fame pursue trophies.

It takes more than passion and talent to pursue legendary status at club level and most of our players only play for the money or to eradicate poverty in their family.

For the likes of Iwobi and Anichebe who were born and raised abroad, well, it might shock you to know that these guys were born into average families over there and we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves to think they were born by rich immigrant parents. That same ideology of remember your root would have been transferred from their parents. So theoretically speaking, they're still raised with a poor man's mind and that's what affects their professional career.

Stop using anything to justify fraud. Nigeria is not the only country with bad or corrupt politicians. I know Nigerian politicians are heartless and useless but why did hush puppi not hustle legitimately despite being in a developed country? What about Invictus who found himself in the US but refused to hustle legitimately? I have friends in Dubai who worked as cleaners before getting good jobs there - why did they not go the route of Hush? . The issue here is greed and impatience. There are dozens of countries that are worse than Nigeria in every ramification but their citizens are not reputed for this nonsense image Nigerians now have all over the world. These guys have ruined so many opportunities for millions of Nigerians all across the world. People know that politicians in most parts of the world are scums - so if your country has corrupt politicians - people won't really use that to judge you unlike when your citizens have a history of notorious crimes. There are times abroad when I introduced myself as a Nigerian and the foreigners there all agreed that Nigerians are fraudsters based on the activities of these stupid yahoo boys. They think we are all dishonest people due to this whole nonsense yahoo boys that will all die a miserable death.
The problem is not just bad governance but greed and impatience. Hush Puppi found his way to Dubai - where he has access to good jobs and stuff. He chose not to work but engage in fraud. And he ended up spending his loot on luxury lifestyle. If you take all these Naija yahoo boys to the USA(where there is good governance) and give good jobs - they will still look for means to scam people. Because they want to drive Benz. Live lavishly forgetting that life is a process and things take time. Most of these people are not looking for how to meet their basic needs. They are all in a hurry to live in luxury - neglecting the fact that people in developed countries largely live an average lifestyle. When Americans deride Nigerians with terms like ”Nigerian Prince” or ”419”, do they refer to Nigerian politicians or ordinary Nigerians who engage in cybercrime? This shows you who really brings us shame. Nonsense!
Sorry you took me out of context. Never was I justifying fraud my friend. And I quite understand how soiled the name of this country is.

My write-up is centered around getting to the root of the decadence in our country. How we got here and how prevalent cyber crime is in our society. Truth is, we can continue to attack the personalities of those into fraud without any iota of success at deterring others bcuz the underlying cause is left unchecked.

Mind you, I said an average Nigerian youth within a certain age group residing in cities knows someone who's into Yahoo or knows someone who knows someone who's into the act but is the society frowning at it? Have you ever called out anyone you know with an untraceable source of wealth before? And if you have even managed to do so, what's the response from the antigraft agencies like?

My brother, I'm not justifying scamming and will never do but am only hoping that people with high spirit and motivation like the one you poured out in your response to me will step forward and demand sanity in the Nigerian system. Not until we are able to reward hard work proportionately and accordingly, and get our teeming youths gainfully employed, Nigeria might continue to remain a shit hole country for some decades.

Everybody does not need to be as rich as hushpuppi,

yes I never insinuated that neither did I state that everyone needs to be as rich as him.

I told you that the majority of our Nigerian graduates are living in abject poverty after NYSC nothing at all for them even during NYSC you need connection to get posted to a place that will pay you 10k or more how much more after NYSC.

What I am saying is where is the assurance, where are the social structures and safety nets that ensures Nigerians especially graduates do not fall below a certain level of poverty. That is all I am saying.

How many graduates can boast of earning 100k+ in Nigeria today even here on Nairaland you typing I know you don't earn up to 100k a month

100,000naira a month translates to 1.2m a year this is the amount countries like USA consider as poor. So to USA people living in this amount are tagged poor.

In Nigeria we have no social security, so people can be poor as in 0 naira in hand, 0 naira in bank and no food and yet they have no place to go to at least get free food and a blanket almost every country outside Africa has provisions for the poor. We on the other hand have the world's largest concentration of poor people with no safety net. What do you expect? For these people not to find a way out of such poverty without looking back. Not everybody can hold their morality in such circumstances so we should attack the WHY instead of the people when the causative agent is addressed then anybody still indulging in such acts only have himself to blame

I'm sure alot of Nigerian fraudsters infact criminals generally will leave their crooked ways if they see something legit that will pay them half of what whatever crime they are doing now is paying them.

Arresting Hushpuppi won't stop Nigerian scammers, it will only give Hush legendary status , immortalise him and his deeds like Billy the kid or any other criminals during the time when the majority of Europe and americas were poor. Criminals attained legendary status for going against the rich and the state or govmt why do you think that ishuh
But now that the majority are above the poverty line when you commit a crime it is frowned upon by Everybody in the west Why? Simple the govmt now works or appears to work for the betterment of the majority unlike in Africa particularly Nigeria where the govmt works for the politicians only.

Saudi Arabia has the same oil as Nigeria every citizen of Dubai gets paid by Saudi Aramco oil company which is the state owned company 1.2million naira per month, for doing nothing just because their country has oil, in Nigeria even the people who own the land where Nigerias oil is drilled from don't get 1 naira, the oil has killed all the fishes in the rivers and as such increased poverty yet the govmt has not given farmers any money to go into another business.

And here you are defending the govmt.
Having read your post I feel it will be nice I say well-done to you. I wish this Hushpuppy's case and more like it will awaken the Nigerian state to the tickling time bomb OBJ has always cried about but ironically couldn't do anything about while in power. A country where a large chunk of the population is not gainfully employed, and are youths is surely sitting on a gunpowder.

Hush is just one out of the many Yahoo boiz we know. There's virtually no single Nigerian living in the city within age 18 to 40 who doesn't know a Yahoo boy or knows someone who knows a Yahoo boy. The statistics is alarming if you consider the numbers yet they're celebrated or spoken highly about due to the decadence in the system. Even worse is the fact that some parents scold their legitimate hardworking children who are struggling with the ups and downs of life just because the son of a neighbor down the street is driving flashy cars without any traceable source of wealth.

I pray the Nigerian youth could wake up to the most fundamental ask of a citizen - question your leaders and demand good leadership. Africans at large lags in this regard. It's hard to see where that's going to come from considering how divided we are as a people. Nigeria keeps churning out graduates year in year out without any tangible plan to absorb them into the workforce of the economy. How then will fraud and crime not thrive in such a society?

You see money-miss-road politicians who before venturing into politics had nothing to offer the economy, flaunting their overnight riches and you begin to wonder if an average Nigerian is okay in the head. Politics is so lucrative here that the country would borrow to fund budgets while our political class continue to be one of the best paid public office holders in the world.

Until we start demanding and pushing for good governance, unemployed and underemployed Nigerian youths will continue to consider crime as an alternative route to breaking the chain of poverty in their lineage.
