Sigh . . .
That is much better instead of diverting attention to other issues rather than deal with the blunder.

Give the average Nigerian that is complaining about Nigeria today opportunity to lead this nation and it will go up in flames in a matter of days or weeks.

Why is it close to impossible for Nigerians to admit errors or mistakes when they make them?
PoliticsRe: NL Politics Section Contributors Of The Year!!! by Afam(m): 3:35pm On Dec 11, 2009
The issue is not the poll you set up after interpreting and applying your rule.

The issue is what constitutes a tie? 16 votes versus 16 votes or 16 votes versus 15 votes?

I believe the questions are basic and simple enough to warrant simple and straight forward answers.

The irony of this is that while a lot of serious pressing problems confront us daily it is an issue of non declaration of assets not looting or embezzling of public funds that is being taken to the front burner.
PoliticsRe: Mounting Scare Reigns Over Reliability Of Atms In Nigerian by Afam(m): 2:55pm On Dec 11, 2009
It is a shame that the ATM gateway providers are far from knowledgeable in the software and hardware parts of the ATMs and as such they can only implement what the units come with instead of tweaking or customizing them to suit our own environment with the peculiar issues.

This import and use mentality will grind this country to a halt one day as we keep paying the wages of workers in foreign lands while complaining about unemployment in ours.

I have received over 30 proposals from companies from both Western and Asian countries for one form of partnership or the other but the annoying thing is that they see these partnerships as export - import relationship which to me means that they believe we cannot produce anything which is unfortunate and shameful.

Where are our engineers? What does it take to program an ATM? What does it take to build a TV or refrigerator? What about a generator or even wind turbine?

Why do we have to import almost everything in this country?

34 Members were Nominated, After carefully sorting out nominees which followed the rules of the process and subsequently invalidating multiple nominations, 5 of such members made it to the POLL. Click Here To View.

  Jakumo  - 16 (26.2%)
Becomerich - 16 (26.2%)
Kobojunkie - 5 (8.2%)
Beaf - 15 (24.6%)
Aloy~Emeka - 9 (14.8%)

We had a tie, and Due to members comments and recommendation for a run off, A Run off Election has been Organized. We also witnessed low turnout of votes, hence the name has been changed to captivate more members to vote.
    Jakumo
    Becomerich
    Beaf
  are Eligible for the poll.

What constitutes a tie? I thought the tie was 26.2% for 2 people. How come 24.6% was included in the run off? This is how it starts, tomorrow we will shout that INEC is corrupt.

Interesting issue. A refund would do just fine. However, add the lessons learned to your portfolio as they will help you to deal with other clients in future.

These days, less than 10 minutes with a client tells me if I should reject or accept a project. Time is money and even if you need to do a refund you still get to lose the time you may have spent.

Beware, your quick temper might take a better part of you someday.

Do not let these traditional antics blow you away. You will want to  convince me that you can don your juju based bulletproof to war field in Iraq and survive those skull tearing bullets, won't you? It's high time you turned a new leaf. I take this as schizophrenia and low IQ. Tudor has said it well, you are still in Eighteenth century, sorry undecided  You might want to attack me with your eighteeth century syntaxes; just remember that I can bake you some good firework cool
Another mumu on the loose. I don't use juju. I don't have to practice it to know that it exists based on what I have seen.

So, even though your little brain would only conclude that one has to believe or practice something before he/she can say it exists you must realize that you have every right to be silly in life, no one can take away such fundamental human right.

Only ignorant people would foolishly dismiss something simply because they do not know or have not seen proof. That is my point and that is where you belong.

They are there developing thru science effective body amour and military hardware yet all he can do is come to NL and RANT about juju based bullet proof and women who deliver tortoise. I weep for Nigeria.
Exactly my point! According to clowns like you if it has not been experienced and written down by whites or scientists then it does not exist. Trust me when it comes to science even if I decide to abandon it today you will never get to know up to 10% of what I know about science until you grow old based on your extremely low level of reasoning.

So, how did the Tortise feed inside her and why did it not tear the placenta inside her before she gave birth? Also can I have fires with that?
I don't know the answer to your question and that is a fact of file that I must live with as no one knows the answers to all the questions out there.

I have seen strange things that science cannot explain and yet that does not make those strange things impossible or non existent.

I was shocked to see educated Nigeria laugh and dismiss claims of juju based bullet proof to the extent I only felt pity for them as the level of ignorance displayed simply because they do not believe is shocking.

And yet, some of these people agreed with the ability to make rain fall or stop it from falling simply because they now know that scientists have been able to do the same thing.

To these people, if the scientists or whites cannot replicate it then it does not exist. Such level of inferiority complex.
PoliticsRe: Woman Gives Birth To A Tortoise In Lagos by Afam(m): 3:30am On Dec 07, 2009
What worries me is that you get to see seemingly educated Nigerians get to dismiss anything they either do not agree with or think is possible based on their personal experiences or even documented text and so if it has not been proven or tested by whites or scientists then it does not exist.

Herein lies the tragedy and those that are the most guilty are those who try to come across as enlightened educated people who unfortunately are far from being capable of discussing intelligently and have very stiff and narrow mindsets.

Close your mind to certain things and you will remain intellectually stubborn. Disregard things because you can't come to terms with them and continue to make a fool of yourself even while trying to sound intelligent.

i am not inetersted in the goodness of soludo or whosoever is coming to rule anambra, rather my concern is whose interests are u coming for? the people or obasanjo.
go to the poll and prove urself and stop depending on the anointments of obasanjo who has destroyed nigeria and the hard fought democracy.
look at the electorial systems in the country since 1999, one will easily accept the fact that we are operating a democracy that is more brutal than a millitary system.
where is the fate of this country. this is 10 solid years of pdp leadership with no single institution in place. every decission is made by a single man. even in the millitary, there is a millitary council but today, we only have a govt of obasanjo, by obasanjo and for obasanjo.
how long are we going to depend on the wisdom and decission of a single old fool to run a country of over 150 million people. statesmen like mandella are valid even outside their countries but what do we have here, a man who is too dirty to be called a father. a morrally dead that he could sleep with his own daughter inlaw.
nigerians, what is there to learn from such a lessthan human being? i lost my respect for soludo that day he made himselve available for obasanjo dangerious games.
Can someone remind this guy that we have a man called Yar'adua that is the president of Nigeria since 2007?

Do u know that the GT bank website with all the nice functionalities was done by a Nigerian? In fact most big company websites are done by Nigerian companies but the case is that it is done by a team and not one individual.
I was doing something on GTBank website once and while checking out why the contact form was not working I realized that the site was based on what used to be Mambo (now Joomla). Of course the developer did a lot of work removing any links or pointers to the free open source software but for me the moment I saw a few things I knew the platform because I had used Mambo to setup websites long before it metamorphosed to joomla.

@topic,

As more and more companies and individuals have less money to spend the issue of demand and supply for business websites will be sorted out as more people would want to justify the cost of maintaining their websites.

Web developers should stop doing free demos as it is not only unprofessional but results in a typical client getting free ideas from multiple developers and settling for any even when any costs incurred are never recovered.

On the correctness or otherwise of different approaches as regards web development I see that as subjective but in the final analysis clients will shut down websites that are useless to them while the need to get functional and task focused websites will continue to increase.

Web MarketRe: Web Project Client Series (read This Before You Ask For A Website) by Afam(m): 6:06pm On Nov 17, 2009
What I am going to put down may be subjective but that is what I believe will help web developers.

Problem
Client wants you to do a project based on discussions but insists that you do a demo for the website especially as others that he/she discussed with did demos. I usually tell such clients that I will do a demo if I will be paid for it as my time must be accounted for.

Solution
Make it clear that indeed you can do a demo but insist on being paid for it. You don't tell Nokia to come to your house with their phone so you can test it out and if you are impressed you pay for it. Granted a lot of web developers would readily do the demo for free and your insistence on payment would most likely cost you the project but again maintaining the highest level of professional integrity in business is key to a successful business.

I came back from one of such meetings today I am told them to feel free to consider any of those that did demo for them as I would only do so if they are going to pay. On coming back, an old client asked me if I could do a project for him and wasn't even talking about price because he tasted first hand professional service over 3 years ago and this one is worth about 5 times the demo issue one.

Trust me your best clients won't give you stress and they are the ones that will help your business in the long run.

If you do not mind me asking, who sets/measures the yardstick?
And what is it based on?

Is it now an offence to have and share an opinion?
Are you asking questions because you seek answers or are these questions rhetorical questions based on conclusions you may have arrived at?

I don't know how the issue of offence and sharing or opinion came to be in the same question.

naijababe:
R'ber that I stated that this is my opinion at the beginning, the ambiguty is what provides for a lack of a common denominator. What would you use as yardsticks ?
I am not questioning your opinion. I am only pointing out the fact that your opinion may be wrong just because the premises you based your analysis may be highly subjective hence the need for a common denominator that will to a large extent be acceptable to the majority if not everyone.

Yardsticks could be any combination of the following

1. Fact
2. Truth
3. Logic

Logic may again be subjective especially as some would easily outwit others so the first 2 may suffice since they remain constant regardless of the personal opinion or position of the individual.
PoliticsRe: Nairaland - A Microcosm Of Nigeria by Afam(m): 5:42pm On Nov 17, 2009
naijababe:
@ Afam
I believe everyone sets their own standards
And therein lies the problem. No common denominator. Everyone believes he/she is right and with such a position it becomes supremely difficult to agree on anything.

There should be yardsticks to measure issues we deliberate on otherwise people would continue to compare apples to oranges and wrongly believe that they are being objective.

It may be difficult to be objective but it is very possible to do so.
PoliticsRe: Nairaland - A Microcosm Of Nigeria by Afam(m): 5:22pm On Nov 17, 2009
A question for the OP.

Who sets the standards?

From what I read on this forum it is usually the ignorant person that claims others are ignorant and someone that does not even understand the point is quick at claiming that someone else is missing the point.

PHP does have its place and can be a wonderful tool, but only for websites that are lightly stressed. I do not expect any bank to run its internet banking site with PHP, the same for media streaming code, Massively Multiplayer Game sites etc. The main reasons are is inherently insecure, has very poor performance, has relatively poor floating point math, is not close enough to the metal (too high level) and not very object oriented (being so old and un-updated).

For a performance comparison see http://www.misfitgeek.com/pages/Perf_Stat_0809.htm
Parent page here http://misfitgeek.com/blog/aspnet/php-versus-asp-net-ndash-windows-versus-linux-ndash-who-rsquo-s-the-fastest/
An internet bank site can run well with PHP if the developer knows enough to develop an efficient program.

When you state that PHP is not very object oriented (being so old and un-updated) then I can draw just one possible conclusion - You have been attending the wrong parties. The facts concerning PHP and what you stated are about 180 degrees apart.

As webdizzi stated somewhere else it seems that we are mixing up the issues here as regards programming languages and machine language.

I am well versed in the area of DSP (digital signal processing) and how today (due to the increase in the speed of even general purpose PCs) you don't even need any specialized hardware to run DSP based applications.

The processors do most of the work. The language construct only ensures that instructions are correctly sent, stored and retrieved when needed.

As regards content the best place to start is to state that the company/client will provide all the content and pictures (which will be optimized for the web if need be) based on the agreement.

I agree that the average prospective client has seen enough nonsense in the newspapers from ads asking for N5,000.00 for a full company website to another boasting of N1,500.00 per year for web hosting with 24/7 customer support.

So, in most cases they base their comments on what they have been bombarded with. That is why I advocate that web developers should learn to write articles that will help correct some of these misconceptions.

These days when it seems that it would take a lot of time trying to explain anything to a prospective client I point him to 1 or 2 articles that may have covered the area in question and it works like magic.
