kosovo:That is much better instead of diverting attention to other issues rather than deal with the blunder. Give the average Nigerian that is complaining about Nigeria today opportunity to lead this nation and it will go up in flames in a matter of days or weeks. Why is it close to impossible for Nigerians to admit errors or mistakes when they make them? |
The issue is not the poll you set up after interpreting and applying your rule. The issue is what constitutes a tie? 16 votes versus 16 votes or 16 votes versus 15 votes? I believe the questions are basic and simple enough to warrant simple and straight forward answers. |
The irony of this is that while a lot of serious pressing problems confront us daily it is an issue of non declaration of assets not looting or embezzling of public funds that is being taken to the front burner. |
It is a shame that the ATM gateway providers are far from knowledgeable in the software and hardware parts of the ATMs and as such they can only implement what the units come with instead of tweaking or customizing them to suit our own environment with the peculiar issues. This import and use mentality will grind this country to a halt one day as we keep paying the wages of workers in foreign lands while complaining about unemployment in ours. I have received over 30 proposals from companies from both Western and Asian countries for one form of partnership or the other but the annoying thing is that they see these partnerships as export - import relationship which to me means that they believe we cannot produce anything which is unfortunate and shameful. Where are our engineers? What does it take to program an ATM? What does it take to build a TV or refrigerator? What about a generator or even wind turbine? Why do we have to import almost everything in this country? |
kosovo:Was that the rule? I thought you were conducting this as a normal election where you get an outright winner or the top 2 do a run off? |
kosovo:What constitutes a tie? I thought the tie was 26.2% for 2 people. How come 24.6% was included in the run off? This is how it starts, tomorrow we will shout that INEC is corrupt. |
Interesting issue. A refund would do just fine. However, add the lessons learned to your portfolio as they will help you to deal with other clients in future. These days, less than 10 minutes with a client tells me if I should reject or accept a project. Time is money and even if you need to do a refund you still get to lose the time you may have spent. |
freshmoney:Another mumu on the loose. I don't use juju. I don't have to practice it to know that it exists based on what I have seen. So, even though your little brain would only conclude that one has to believe or practice something before he/she can say it exists you must realize that you have every right to be silly in life, no one can take away such fundamental human right. Only ignorant people would foolishly dismiss something simply because they do not know or have not seen proof. That is my point and that is where you belong. |
Tudór:Exactly my point! According to clowns like you if it has not been experienced and written down by whites or scientists then it does not exist. Trust me when it comes to science even if I decide to abandon it today you will never get to know up to 10% of what I know about science until you grow old based on your extremely low level of reasoning. |
Mariory:I don't know the answer to your question and that is a fact of file that I must live with as no one knows the answers to all the questions out there. I have seen strange things that science cannot explain and yet that does not make those strange things impossible or non existent. I was shocked to see educated Nigeria laugh and dismiss claims of juju based bullet proof to the extent I only felt pity for them as the level of ignorance displayed simply because they do not believe is shocking. And yet, some of these people agreed with the ability to make rain fall or stop it from falling simply because they now know that scientists have been able to do the same thing. To these people, if the scientists or whites cannot replicate it then it does not exist. Such level of inferiority complex. |
What worries me is that you get to see seemingly educated Nigerians get to dismiss anything they either do not agree with or think is possible based on their personal experiences or even documented text and so if it has not been proven or tested by whites or scientists then it does not exist. Herein lies the tragedy and those that are the most guilty are those who try to come across as enlightened educated people who unfortunately are far from being capable of discussing intelligently and have very stiff and narrow mindsets. Close your mind to certain things and you will remain intellectually stubborn. Disregard things because you can't come to terms with them and continue to make a fool of yourself even while trying to sound intelligent. |
chidichris:Can someone remind this guy that we have a man called Yar'adua that is the president of Nigeria since 2007? |
@topic, No doubt the average Nigerian lacks the capacity to engage in critical thinking or even intellectual discussions. Even from this forum the statement holds true any day. |
p_boy234:What are the requirements for the e-commerce website? I develop all sorts of database driven websites from scratch regardless of the features and functionality required. So, what's your budget like and how soon do you want this developed? If you have a merchant account that can accept Interswitch payments implementing a solution wouldn't take more than 1 week. |
Akesan:How urgent? You may see www.itsyourcms.com to see if you can get a copy of the application installed. What do you refer to as more functional? What exact features are you looking for? |
abijawara:Tell them. |
Kokotee007:Did you actually design the egetwhy.com website yourself or you installed a copy of a web project? I am confident that some Nigerian websites are even better than some you see in any part of the world. However, we should know when to claim ownership of anything and when to give credit to owners of web projects. |
hayo:I was doing something on GTBank website once and while checking out why the contact form was not working I realized that the site was based on what used to be Mambo (now Joomla). Of course the developer did a lot of work removing any links or pointers to the free open source software but for me the moment I saw a few things I knew the platform because I had used Mambo to setup websites long before it metamorphosed to joomla. @topic, As more and more companies and individuals have less money to spend the issue of demand and supply for business websites will be sorted out as more people would want to justify the cost of maintaining their websites. Web developers should stop doing free demos as it is not only unprofessional but results in a typical client getting free ideas from multiple developers and settling for any even when any costs incurred are never recovered. On the correctness or otherwise of different approaches as regards web development I see that as subjective but in the final analysis clients will shut down websites that are useless to them while the need to get functional and task focused websites will continue to increase. |
ogzille:Yes to all the questions but the last one. Why would someone that created an original efficient chat application have any problems with making it blend with the website or is the poster referring to an open source chat application that is customizable? |
KnowAll:One of the major problems we face in Nigeria is misinformation or wrong information based on wrong premises and assumptions. Do you know who the governor of Abia State is? If yes, is he a PDP member? If no, then what has the issue of 1st lady of Abia state doing in your post above? |
What I am going to put down may be subjective but that is what I believe will help web developers. Problem Client wants you to do a project based on discussions but insists that you do a demo for the website especially as others that he/she discussed with did demos. I usually tell such clients that I will do a demo if I will be paid for it as my time must be accounted for. Solution Make it clear that indeed you can do a demo but insist on being paid for it. You don't tell Nokia to come to your house with their phone so you can test it out and if you are impressed you pay for it. Granted a lot of web developers would readily do the demo for free and your insistence on payment would most likely cost you the project but again maintaining the highest level of professional integrity in business is key to a successful business. I came back from one of such meetings today I am told them to feel free to consider any of those that did demo for them as I would only do so if they are going to pay. On coming back, an old client asked me if I could do a project for him and wasn't even talking about price because he tasted first hand professional service over 3 years ago and this one is worth about 5 times the demo issue one. Trust me your best clients won't give you stress and they are the ones that will help your business in the long run. |
OMO IBO:Are you asking questions because you seek answers or are these questions rhetorical questions based on conclusions you may have arrived at? I don't know how the issue of offence and sharing or opinion came to be in the same question. naijababe:I am not questioning your opinion. I am only pointing out the fact that your opinion may be wrong just because the premises you based your analysis may be highly subjective hence the need for a common denominator that will to a large extent be acceptable to the majority if not everyone. Yardsticks could be any combination of the following 1. Fact 2. Truth 3. Logic Logic may again be subjective especially as some would easily outwit others so the first 2 may suffice since they remain constant regardless of the personal opinion or position of the individual. |
naijababe:And therein lies the problem. No common denominator. Everyone believes he/she is right and with such a position it becomes supremely difficult to agree on anything. There should be yardsticks to measure issues we deliberate on otherwise people would continue to compare apples to oranges and wrongly believe that they are being objective. It may be difficult to be objective but it is very possible to do so. |
A question for the OP. Who sets the standards? From what I read on this forum it is usually the ignorant person that claims others are ignorant and someone that does not even understand the point is quick at claiming that someone else is missing the point. |
bawomolo:I have never advocated for any form of division. However, the issue of Nigerians being insults by those living outside is a serious one and should be discouraged especially as many Nigerians living outside Nigeria seem to support this nonsense while others either kept silent or try to justify the insults. Have you spoken out against these irresponsible insults directed at those of us that are in Nigeria? What is your position on these insults? Remember that you can support or oppose something by not getting involved and at the same time not taking a stand. All Nigerians are Nigerians so what is there to gain by dividing or quarreling amongst ourselves while the corrupt leaders continue to get away with murder even in broad daylight? |
chidichris:And to think that we have seen it all as regards comedians in this country? Boy, just start one comedy show e go pay you pass the okpanta wey you dey waste your time write for NL. |
walakolobo:Nigerians living in Nigeria must challenge the lies and misinformation being spread by our brothers and sisters that are living outside Nigeria. Whether this is a result of envy, jealousy or "feel good" attitude I don't know but such comments and lies should be exposed for what they are at every juncture without delays. |
chidichris:I for talk whether this guy go complete hin post without adding OBJ's name. Did you read the article at all? |
*jona:Greed is dangerous. Not being contented with what you have is another disease. There are cleaners in Nigeria that are taking care of their families without resorting to drugs or crimes. |
@topic, ![]() Even from the horse's mouth we shall hear the truth. Damn! People are losing their jobs, things are getting harder and yet Nigerians living in Nigeria are being insulted by those outside? Wonders shall never end. |
Beaf:An internet bank site can run well with PHP if the developer knows enough to develop an efficient program. When you state that PHP is not very object oriented (being so old and un-updated) then I can draw just one possible conclusion - You have been attending the wrong parties. The facts concerning PHP and what you stated are about 180 degrees apart. As webdizzi stated somewhere else it seems that we are mixing up the issues here as regards programming languages and machine language. I am well versed in the area of DSP (digital signal processing) and how today (due to the increase in the speed of even general purpose PCs) you don't even need any specialized hardware to run DSP based applications. The processors do most of the work. The language construct only ensures that instructions are correctly sent, stored and retrieved when needed. |
As regards content the best place to start is to state that the company/client will provide all the content and pictures (which will be optimized for the web if need be) based on the agreement. I agree that the average prospective client has seen enough nonsense in the newspapers from ads asking for N5,000.00 for a full company website to another boasting of N1,500.00 per year for web hosting with 24/7 customer support. So, in most cases they base their comments on what they have been bombarded with. That is why I advocate that web developers should learn to write articles that will help correct some of these misconceptions. These days when it seems that it would take a lot of time trying to explain anything to a prospective client I point him to 1 or 2 articles that may have covered the area in question and it works like magic. |
