3) This country cannot be regonalised because our regions do not define us. Not everyone in the SE is Igbo. Not everyone in the SW is Yoruba. Divisions are all over. We are citizens of Nigeria and we live in states and not regions. When you guys attempt to divide the country into 6, you become a bunch of tribal warlords

4) I see myself as part of a well growing Nation where corruption is not our problem. Where I can be of Igbo descent and contest for governorship in Kano. Where I can be from Abia state and the family of my Anambra GF wont say I am not good enough because I am from Ngwa
Regionalizing and tribalising the country is not the same thing. Why must SW equate to Yoruba and SE Igbo? That's the mistake we keep making in this country. Regionalism is just a way for regions (not tribes ) to control what is in their territory and whatever is gotten from it will be for everyone who lives in that region.

PoliticsRe: Chukwa Umunna Withdraws From Labour Leadership Race by Afam4eva(m): 1:35pm On May 15, 2015
ShymmexOBE:
They wouldn't even let a Scottish man, Gordon Brown, win an election...but you think they will actually vote for a black person? English voters hold the ace, and they're mostly conservatives. A black person isn't even allowed to read prime time news, apart from late/early-morning news cos of the same people. You have to understand the dynamics of things and UK isn't America, and will never be. He has a better chance becoming the Mayor of London, than PM.

Blacks are ever present in America, even way before Obama. And Obama came in at the right time, for a purpose by some powers bigger than him - those were the people who pushed the button. Then the two system of government are different. Ditto Obama's charisma, eloquence and a lot of things Chuka lacks. That's just the reality. And he's too green - coupled with the timing in which the Labour Party is in disarray. The only chance Labour has right now is for the conservatives to self-destruct, with Labour positioning itself in a more attractive position, for English voters. They tried that with New Labour and Tony Blair destroyed it himself with his Iraq/Afghanistan war with George Bush. So they need another "joker" like that one, and Chuka lacks what Blair and his gang came with back then - Tony Blair was Obama before Obama when it comes to eloquence, articulation, charisma and swaying folks over with the power of the tongue.

Err, let's say Chuka hypothetically becomes Labour leader - immigration and son of an immigrant becoming the PM alone is enough to make him lose in England. And even folks from the far left, which happens to be Labour's base, don't even like him cos he's more of a middle-class guy than working-class
I agree that the UK and US are not the same as the latter is a more open society but never say never. It may be more difficult for Ummuna to become PM compared to Obama becoming US president but its still possible considering the fact that they currently have nothing to lose.
PoliticsRe: Chukwa Umunna Withdraws From Labour Leadership Race by Afam4eva(m): 1:12pm On May 15, 2015
ShymmexOBE:
Too early, too green, and lacks the charisma/eloquence/brain to win the people over, anyway.

Who will vote for a Blairite that's more or less ToriesLite in his outlook, especially with how messed up the Labour Party is right now? The party's traditional base is in disarray, while they also need to appeal to more English voters - since they have lost Scotland completely. Ditto how confused the whole party is right now with no direction and no ideas on what to actually embrace - traditional left or ideals of new Labour which is ToriesLite. And minorities in the UK are inconsequential in determining election (esp black people who make up just 3% and over 60% of eligible/registered black voters don't even vote).

Even if he were to win Labour's leadership, white people out here won't vote for a nyggah. They don't even want a black person to read prime time news, why would they want a black person to be the PM? Folks don't even know how racist the UK is. Yes, they smile with you and act all fake, but once you turn ya back, these folks might actually be the most racist folks on the planet. They already gave folks London, everything else is non-negotiable and they will always remind you in a subtle way. Chuka was just wasting his time before and Labour was also about to self-destruct. Good that both woke up at the right time.
The same thing was said about Obama but what happened. If and when he decides to be British PM, his party will be voted for on merit and not whether is it being led by a black man. We started from the bottom, now we're here.

I actually think Enugu and Abuja stand a better chance than Lagos and PH. Its hard for commercial cities in Nigeria to achieve the cleanliness and serenity in the picture. All Enugu needs is a boulevard with very high rise residential building and a marked road with trees adorning the side of the road.

I'll blame the man's family for starting the trouble. We all know Omugwo is reserved for the wife's family, so it beats me why his mother, out of jealousy will want to be the one to go for Omugwo. Parents have to understand that one their son marries, he makes his own decision and is not subject to the whims of his family. I also think that his wife's family escalated issues by locking up the Father of the man. That is a very idiotic action to take. I cab understand the mans inability to do something.

CultureRe: Top 10 Most Spoken Nigerian Languages by Afam4eva(m): 1:59pm On May 13, 2015
What an interesting thread turned political by splashbaby.

I think most of the comments that have been made on this thread are uninformed (no offense). It is one thing to state a personal opinion and a totally different thing to present it as a fact. What I see people doing is telling us why their ethnic group has more population or is the most spoken. I think i will stick to what I think and not what I know for sure as no recent census in Nigeria has captured the population of every ethnic group and the number of speakers.

Personally, I don't think Hausa is the largest ethnic group in Nigeria as we tend to muddle the population of Fulani's and other Northern minorities as Hausa. However, I think Hausa is arguably the most spoken language in the North. Hardly do you find any Northerner irrespective of tribe who doesn't speak some Hausa's. I also noticed that southerners who travel to the north tend to learn Hausa than a Northerner who travels to the south.

I think either Igbo or Yoruba have the largest population in Nigeria but I'm forced to give a slight edge to the Igbo's for reasons that others have stated here such as the population of Igbo's outside Igboland. However, I think there are more Yoruba speakers than there are Igbo speakers.

PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Afam4eva(m): 4:35pm On May 11, 2015
I think it's high time we stopped attacking people who highlight some of the defects of Enugu. Enugu is one of the most liveable cities in Nigeria and Africa, no doubt. It is one city that has been consistent in growing, though slowly, but surely. But i think it's high time, we made this city more than just a civil service center. Contrary to what a lot of people like to say, i think Enugu needs to become a commercial center. By commerce, not exactly in the mold of Onitsha or Aba. We need to make Enugu a hub for Banks, IT firms and Manufacturers. There's no reason why some banks cannot be headquatered in Enugu. There's no reason why Enugu cannot be the IT hub of NIgeria. We have have our own sillicon valley in Enugu. It's possible owing to the fact that these kinds of sectors need a peaceful and workable cities to function. As much as i am pro-Igbo, i don't seem why Enugu cannot attract the likes of Innoson, Coscharis and other local and international car manufacturers and dealers. We can also take a bit of fashion from Aba and setup a mini Fashion capital in Aba. We can also attract the phamaceutical giants who have their origin in Orlu to Enugu. Another area that the Enugu state government should look into is in the tourism sector. There are very few states in Nigeria that have a more blessed and majestic natural beauty like Enugu. We can have an Obudu sort of thing in Enugu. We need 5 star hotels. We can also create one of the largest parks in Africa.

All these can be achieved if the enabling environment is activated. Power and access(Roads and Airport) are very vital in this regard. I want to see Enugu bubble while still retaining it's tranquility.

Where were the igbos when Margaret's Efik mother struggled to bring her up?
Where were her igbo people when her ibibio husband helped her to realise her destiny and dream as a political activist?
Where are igbos today when Efik people named their airport in Calabar after their beloved daughter Margaret?
infact u people are supposed to hide ur faces on this thread instead of bragging unnecesarily here. Nonsense!
My freiend keep wuiet and stop talking like a donkey. You're surely a moronic dingbat to throw caution to the wind and assume a state of mental dis-equilibrium. So, if i was born to an Igbo father but born and grew up in Kano with no iota of Igboness in me, does that make me Hausa?

Also, based on the 5 major human geographical divisions we have in Nigeria

The Core-northern part of Nigeria, the Middlebelt part, Eastern, Western & Niger deltan

Let's say Margaret Ekpo represents the Niger deltan region as an Ibibio
Ladi Kwali represents the Middlebelt region as a Gbagyi woman
& Funmilayo Kuti represents the Western (yoruba speaking region)

I'd like to hear from Igbos (easternerns) and the Hausa-fulanis (core-northernerns), who are the most influential Igbo & Hausa-fulani women that ever lived??
Margareth Ekpo is Igbo.

CultureWhat Makes One Detribalized? by Afam4eva(op): 2:14pm On May 07, 2015
I have noticed that most people that have been accused of tribalism always uses popular rebuffs to prove otherwise. We hear things like, how can be tribalistic when my wife is bla or my friend is bla or my uncle's wife is bla or i am bla. As much as someone who is destribalized is most likely to have grown up around people from different backgrounds, but does that necessarily mean that just because your wife is hausa for example, that you can't be tribalistic towards Hausa people. I don't know of any Nigerian that doesn't have friends from different ethnic groups but these same people are the ones who perpetuate stereotypes. So, do these things really matter?
PoliticsRe: Igbos Picket Dr Ariyo's Office Over Hate Comments - Pics by Afam4eva(m): 5:06pm On May 06, 2015
I've noticed this aggressiveness of Igbos in recent years and as much as i feel they take it to the extreme in some cases, i think the premise should be commended. I think all Nigerians should adopt this behavior. We need to call out people who have made provocative comments irrespective of the person's tribal or religious affiliation. If we allow things like this to go unquestioned, other people will think it's okay to make prejudiced statements.

Mynd44:
In one of my posts here, I mentioned that a sane census needs to be done. But to use the current Census which the OP is indirectly using and claim inequity is not right unless he wants to throw in tribal sentiments(which he has a precedence of doing)
I understand. But irrespective of what the census figure reveals, it should never be a determinant of how resources are going to be shared. So, it won't matter to anyone whether Kano has more population than the entire south. People should manage and control the resources in their areas. If they wanna have 100 LGAs they're free to do so as long as they can fund them. We don't want a situation where the census figures are tampered to give some people undue advantage over others.

This is not right.
I can see you are back to the old ways or whipping up tribal sentiments as was exposed yesterday. Now let me help you out.

What is the population of Kano?
What is the population of Lagos?
Now what is the population of the most populous state in the SE?

If a state has a population of say 10 million, how can you expect that state not to have more representatives than a state with a population of 3million?
I think the OP's concern is holistic and it even includes this population figure that Kano is larger than Lagos in population. let's stop acting like we don't know that Nigeria has been skewed to favour a part of this country more than others.

Why should the capital of a state be an issue. Unlike in Nigeria where state capitals are the usually the most developed cities, in the US, capitals are usually located in smaller and quieter towns. That is why NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Baltimore are not the capital cities of New York, California, Illinois, Florida and Maryland. We have to do away with the mindset that the capital must be the most developed part of the state where most of the state resources are pumped into then people won't mind where the capitals are located.
