I think its because Americans are known to be loud. It's funny because a lot of Americans always want to be ween as Canadian when they travel to other countries. |
seunmsg:Have you foegotten that you're hosting people in Lagos. Its oil now and your mouth is running wild. |
Mynd44:Regionalizing and tribalising the country is not the same thing. Why must SW equate to Yoruba and SE Igbo? That's the mistake we keep making in this country. Regionalism is just a way for regions (not tribes ) to control what is in their territory and whatever is gotten from it will be for everyone who lives in that region. |
How can you disapprove a university if it's not in Nigeria. Who are the idiots running NUC. As long as the school is legal in Benin Republic, its none of your business. Face front. |
I think you friend should be recalledband sacked again. He should have been sacked the first day he made that statement for being stupid. I won't want stupid people working for him. |
tonychristopher:This is the most ignorant statement that i have read this month. Can you explain what you mean by catholic name and are catholic names the same as Christian names. |
ShymmexOBE:I agree that the UK and US are not the same as the latter is a more open society but never say never. It may be more difficult for Ummuna to become PM compared to Obama becoming US president but its still possible considering the fact that they currently have nothing to lose. |
ShymmexOBE:The same thing was said about Obama but what happened. If and when he decides to be British PM, his party will be voted for on merit and not whether is it being led by a black man. We started from the bottom, now we're here. |
abagoro:I actually think Enugu and Abuja stand a better chance than Lagos and PH. Its hard for commercial cities in Nigeria to achieve the cleanliness and serenity in the picture. All Enugu needs is a boulevard with very high rise residential building and a marked road with trees adorning the side of the road. |
I'll blame the man's family for starting the trouble. We all know Omugwo is reserved for the wife's family, so it beats me why his mother, out of jealousy will want to be the one to go for Omugwo. Parents have to understand that one their son marries, he makes his own decision and is not subject to the whims of his family. I also think that his wife's family escalated issues by locking up the Father of the man. That is a very idiotic action to take. I cab understand the mans inability to do something. |
Is the OP imlplying that 3sc has achieved more than Rangers? The only reason why Enyimba will be a ad of rangers is due to their continental exploits. |
What an interesting thread turned political by splashbaby. I think most of the comments that have been made on this thread are uninformed (no offense). It is one thing to state a personal opinion and a totally different thing to present it as a fact. What I see people doing is telling us why their ethnic group has more population or is the most spoken. I think i will stick to what I think and not what I know for sure as no recent census in Nigeria has captured the population of every ethnic group and the number of speakers. Personally, I don't think Hausa is the largest ethnic group in Nigeria as we tend to muddle the population of Fulani's and other Northern minorities as Hausa. However, I think Hausa is arguably the most spoken language in the North. Hardly do you find any Northerner irrespective of tribe who doesn't speak some Hausa's. I also noticed that southerners who travel to the north tend to learn Hausa than a Northerner who travels to the south. I think either Igbo or Yoruba have the largest population in Nigeria but I'm forced to give a slight edge to the Igbo's for reasons that others have stated here such as the population of Igbo's outside Igboland. However, I think there are more Yoruba speakers than there are Igbo speakers. |
I speak Nkanu dialect of Igbo as well as A not so fluent central Igbo. I also communicate OK in Yoruba. |
I think it's high time we stopped attacking people who highlight some of the defects of Enugu. Enugu is one of the most liveable cities in Nigeria and Africa, no doubt. It is one city that has been consistent in growing, though slowly, but surely. But i think it's high time, we made this city more than just a civil service center. Contrary to what a lot of people like to say, i think Enugu needs to become a commercial center. By commerce, not exactly in the mold of Onitsha or Aba. We need to make Enugu a hub for Banks, IT firms and Manufacturers. There's no reason why some banks cannot be headquatered in Enugu. There's no reason why Enugu cannot be the IT hub of NIgeria. We have have our own sillicon valley in Enugu. It's possible owing to the fact that these kinds of sectors need a peaceful and workable cities to function. As much as i am pro-Igbo, i don't seem why Enugu cannot attract the likes of Innoson, Coscharis and other local and international car manufacturers and dealers. We can also take a bit of fashion from Aba and setup a mini Fashion capital in Aba. We can also attract the phamaceutical giants who have their origin in Orlu to Enugu. Another area that the Enugu state government should look into is in the tourism sector. There are very few states in Nigeria that have a more blessed and majestic natural beauty like Enugu. We can have an Obudu sort of thing in Enugu. We need 5 star hotels. We can also create one of the largest parks in Africa. All these can be achieved if the enabling environment is activated. Power and access(Roads and Airport) are very vital in this regard. I want to see Enugu bubble while still retaining it's tranquility. |
IamOdin:Let's talk about you. What have you achieved so far in your life? I don't know when some of you will stop bragging over everything. |
Mynd44:My statement should not be taken out of context. I want to believe that when I made the statement, it appeared that the Yoruba's were demanding what belonged to PDP at the time. I'm not sure. I have to go over the thread again. |
Nowenuse:My freiend keep wuiet and stop talking like a donkey. You're surely a moronic dingbat to throw caution to the wind and assume a state of mental dis-equilibrium. It's because of half baked educated folks like you that i stayed away from Nairaland. Someone's Father is Igbo, yet a grown up man like you is arguing about where that person is from as if our culture has stopped being Patriarchal. So, if i was born to an Igbo father but born and grew up in Kano with no iota of Igboness in me, does that make me Hausa? |
Nowenuse:Margareth Ekpo is Igbo. |
I think i like this Pinnick guy. Atleast he's making an attempt to get us a top team to play. Enough of playing Syria and Iraq abeg. |
I have noticed that most people that have been accused of tribalism always uses popular rebuffs to prove otherwise. We hear things like, how can be tribalistic when my wife is bla or my friend is bla or my uncle's wife is bla or i am bla. As much as someone who is destribalized is most likely to have grown up around people from different backgrounds, but does that necessarily mean that just because your wife is hausa for example, that you can't be tribalistic towards Hausa people. I don't know of any Nigerian that doesn't have friends from different ethnic groups but these same people are the ones who perpetuate stereotypes. So, do these things really matter? |
I've noticed this aggressiveness of Igbos in recent years and as much as i feel they take it to the extreme in some cases, i think the premise should be commended. I think all Nigerians should adopt this behavior. We need to call out people who have made provocative comments irrespective of the person's tribal or religious affiliation. If we allow things like this to go unquestioned, other people will think it's okay to make prejudiced statements. |
Mynd44:I understand. But irrespective of what the census figure reveals, it should never be a determinant of how resources are going to be shared. So, it won't matter to anyone whether Kano has more population than the entire south. People should manage and control the resources in their areas. If they wanna have 100 LGAs they're free to do so as long as they can fund them. We don't want a situation where the census figures are tampered to give some people undue advantage over others. |
Mynd44:I think the OP's concern is holistic and it even includes this population figure that Kano is larger than Lagos in population. let's stop acting like we don't know that Nigeria has been skewed to favour a part of this country more than others. |
O boy, see as people dey analyse female football. I've really lost touch. I'm happy to still see Nkwocha. There's this other lady that has "Orji" as her surname. Where's she? |
bigfrancis21:All the ones I have met all have an Igbo last name and first name like most Igbos out there and they spoke Igbo too. They look like your typical Igbo person without traces of anything else. |
bigfrancis21:Stephen Keshi is from Illah. |
babyosisi:I'm happy that we really uplift our women as opposed to suppressing them. No wonder we have produced some of the greatest female achievers in this part of the world. |
They may have Yoruba ancestry but every olukunmi person that I have come across rings IGBO. I think its mostly a few elderly ones that still possess some Yoruba traits. Zeal of style plus is from there. |
Why should the capital of a state be an issue. Unlike in Nigeria where state capitals are the usually the most developed cities, in the US, capitals are usually located in smaller and quieter towns. That is why NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Baltimore are not the capital cities of New York, California, Illinois, Florida and Maryland. We have to do away with the mindset that the capital must be the most developed part of the state where most of the state resources are pumped into then people won't mind where the capitals are located. |
What's the Hausa in zamfara called? I heard that's like the central Hausa. |
Ishilove:The pleasure is mine. Oya, bring it here ![]() |
Ishilove:Kai. It's because of arguments such as these that the OP used Igboid alongside Igbo but mbanu, we must know that you're very unique. Like we've not always known that fact. Is there any dialect without influence from elsewhere? |
