About the E coli bacteria. Without sounding too technical, Scientists kept and observed this bacteria for 25 years which is 50000 generations of bacteria. At the end the bacteria had copied DNA and inserted them in areas near some cells to give them some ability they didn't have before. That was evolution.
About the bang, according to a cosmologist called Stephen Hawking nothing could have caused the bang at all. He concluded this from watching sub atomic particles that appear out of nowhere for no reason and disappear after a while. nothing causes it. And there was no time before the bang for a God to have created the bangable material in. E.g in black holes now which are very dense, there is nothing like time. If your body can withstand the gravity, you would live forever. The universe before the bang was infinitely small and infinitely dense so a kind of black hole... All this according to Stephen Hawking... Or better still time is another illusion.... According to me
About what to put your faith in, ideas have a life of their own and whatever ideas you subscribe to would keep looking for reinforcement while ignoring enemy ideas. No I don't mean adapting. Take Lions for example. Their whole body was created perfectly to be a predator. Their eye sights, sharp teeth, claws, even their stomach cannot process grass. If you call that adapting then If humans one day start flying, breathing under water and so on. Wouldn't we just have adapted some more to our environment. Scientists don't claim evolution is how life came to be... Evolution is how our current stage of life came to be... or adaptation if that suits you better

The common claim is that God is all loving, all knowing and all powerful but if there is indeed such a God with the situation of the world, that God cannot be all three of those attributes. The most is 2. SO either 1. He knows about the suffering of the world and loves the world but can't do anything about it. 2. Everyone on this thread is an atheist if you don't believe in all the Gods of all the periods in human history. Some people just believe in less Gods than others and when you know the reason why you don't believe in all the Gods then that's the real reason some people don't believe in yours. As an alternative to evolution, Genesis account of creation records God creating all humans and animals as herbivores. Even if Genesis account is really what happened then why would some animals such as lions decide to change from the herbivores they were and evolve into an animal whose body cannot process plants?

Though I believe too much attention is being given to the topic of Atheism and Atheists but I guess I understand why this is so. I know for sure that we have very few vocal Atheists on nairaland. When I say Atheists, I mean "True Atheists" those who refuse or reject the belief in deities. These actually are sincere and know the importance of respecting the individual even though they do not necessarily agree with that individual's beliefs. These are tolerant and would believe in God if and only if they can be convinced of his existence. Some of these even live better lives than some Christians and frankly I believe these would make it to heaven.

There is another set, those I choose to call "Atheists wanna be" they believe they are Atheists and are of the opinion that God does not exist. These are different from "True Atheists". They make themselves believe that they are sincere about their conviction but in truth they would go to such length to see religion stamped out of the face of the earth. These believe they have proofs that God does not exist but on close scrutiny, what they call proofs are basically their own opinions and beliefs. Some of these would not believe in God even if you are to show them God physically while some others would prefer to "kill" God if they can. Some of these are driven by 'hate' though they would prefer not to acknowledge this. As you rightly put it, they are Anti-theist and quite frankly these are the ones most in need of 'conversion'.

Sorry to say but Christians can also be divided into two similar groups too. We have those who trully worship God and would do everything to ensure that he is loved and adored. These are 'gentle' and considerate. These are never quick to pass judgement. Fanaticism is not their thing and they all believe in the goodness of the human spirit. These can and do work with Atheist for the greater good. These believe judgement is left only for God. These know the importance of saving a soul. These know also that their soul needs saving first before they can reach out to others.

The other group of Christians are the "if you are not with us then die by fire" kind. Some of these lack a sincere heart. Some of these are hard task masters who want to coerce people to follow their ideal whereas they themselves are exempt from following it. These are very quick to judge and from the way they talk it seems as if they have the list of all those who would make heaven in their hand. These talk as if God is someone they can tell what to do and from the way they do their things you would be tempted to believe that they have the holy spirit in their pockets. These do not tolerate other religion or people who hold a different view. These are also driven by 'hate' though they would prefer to call it a zeal for the house of the Lord. These need conversion too!

I have painted some extreme scenarios up there but this is not to say that it cannot be true. We all should be guided by love, not hate.

Wow. Brilliant write up. I had to re-examine my life after reading this. I don't fall under any of the above category though. I don't believe in religion but I believe in God in an agnostic kind of way. I feel the way to God is through the god that is myself and we gods which is everything collectively are God.
Anyway I assume you are a christian, on what basis or standards do you claim atheists would go to heaven

Who has had an out of body experience before? Share what you encountered in that state for example did you meet other people or beings while outside your body? Did you consciously project yourself outside your body or it just happened? ow has your life and views towards life changed since having an OBE? Can you consciously project yourself outside your body at will? And what tip would you give to people trying to experience an OBE?

For me, Bad Religion's The Empire Strikes First has to be the greatest Rock album with The Empire Strikes First being the best track on the album. Very insightful messages about the human condition passed across via the euphoric feeling of the electric guitar. Some rock bands however just make noise and are annoying.

Matthew 23:17 "Ye fools and blind." Psalm 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God."

In Matthew 23:17, Jesus is not talking to his brethren, but to the Pharisees. In line with the verse in Psalms, he was referring to the Pharisees as unbelievers (in His own work, of course). This also means that the OT verse does not apply here.

There is also this passage:

Luke 11:40 You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also?


The same point applies, but we will add here that the word for "foolish" in Luke is a different Greek word than the one in Matt. 5:22. (aphron vs. moros). The former word is also used by Paul in 1 Cor. 15:36. It has more of a connotation of "unbeliever" than it does a reference to just "plain stupidity" as moros has.

Skeptics may of course go on to object that this is offensive anyway, even without the contradiction, but the polemic registered here is no more than within the range of stock accusations made among various parties in Judaism, which were perfectly acceptable in this time period.
