If the problem was phones ringing during lectures then he could have simply banned the carrying of phones to lecture halls instead of completely banning the use of cell phones in school altogether.

The phone booth idea sounds ridiculous and archaic and hilarious.
What a dumb idea.
Lol. Well his empire his rules. People that go there can only blame themselves later if they get put off by the whole thing. Unless they were forced to go there in which case they can blame whoever forced them.
About the whole arrogant tyrant, Didn't you see when He slapped a little girl on the pulpit in front of the whole world to see and later came back to brag about it?

fellis: Why are phones prohibited in the first place?
From what I know phones were first allowed in the school. Then phones ringing during lectures and services annoyed school authority then the final straw was when a phone rang when Bishop Oyedepo was preaching and He then impulsively banned it [I'm not sure about this but this is the story I heard while there]
Anyway Bishop Oyedepo is not the kind of man to go back on His decisions so even when that decision kept looking more and more stupid, the reasons for not allowing phones kept evolving. It changed to "Students would spend too much money on recharge cards" Then when that didn't make sense anymore, they made a kind of public phone available in the hostels [like a phone booth]...

fm7070: you can never be rusticated because of such flimsy reason, maybe there is more to it than what you're telling us.
I didn't take my bible to an evening service. When bishop Oyedepo was preaching someone stood up and started walking out [Probably to use the toilet] He got angry and shouted on the person for a while. He then asked those who weren't with their bibles to come out. I came out. The case dragged on a bit with them making us do other activities. Eventually some people were rusticated and others were pardoned [probably first time offenders]. I was a first time offender but was given a one year suspension. I went for bible school [Wofbi] and appealed the rustication. I was called back after some months. I wasn't interested anymore. Any case after that would have been expulsion regardless of what year I was in. Are you happy now?

I've been overlooking your grammatical mistakes because I think we can all understand the point you are trying to pass across but I want to correct this one not from a mocking or superior point of view but I feel such mistakes might affect you somewhere sometime and it would be wrong for me not to point it out.

You use We in situations where you should use Will. We is a pronoun used to refer to a group wherein you are included for example We are having a conversation online
While will is used to refer to the action that is to be done for example Only a fool will say that there is no God

If you are aware of this but you are just abbreviating it to conserve energy then just ignore the above. but always be careful with such abbreviations when in a formal setting

Ofcourse he have interest in you, but with your doubting mind he won't do it, even a christian can fast and pray for 100 days without recieving nothing from God depends on the state of mind.

Erase everything from your mind and start again. God is REAL!
I didn't do it with a doubting mind. I just did it with no mind at all whatsoever to catch whatever experience there was. As in I wasn't doubting or believing either, I was just clear headed and observing everything.
If you are asking me to believe before I start the process I know I would get what I already expect because I would give it to myself not because of God or anything like that. its good that you guys have something to base your beliefs and faith on anyway and in the interest of leaving no stone unturned, I would try it again with a clear mind and see what happens

Read my post again it's a testimony of a surgeon who doesn't believe in God existence but since that day he know God really exist because nothing like medical assistance.

You said i should read about sun on google, who did the findings you or another man like you?

As a man like you did some findings about how things came into an existence and you believe the person, have you ever try it personally to some extend that God exist? Rather believing in what people says not what you discover because personally i have find out that my God is real and exist not just base my believe/everything on Bible alone.

My Brother try to do the same thing. Thanks
You are confusing me with Kay17. I already told you I tried it what else am I supposed to do? I fasted and prayed trying to keep a clear mind rather by being influenced by the emotions of people around me and no God answered me. So if your God is really as you claim He is then He musn't be much interested in me. Either that or I'm just sane and clear minded. About the whole sun thing. OK. I agree that the sun was a magical ball hung by God in the sky just the same way the rainbow was the bow above God's throne that He removed and put on earth to remind us whenever it rains that He wouldn't destroy the world with water again. a little observation shows its just the reflection of the light on water but what does anybody know anyway.

Emusan: Do you want to tell me that scientist predictions are accurate or 100%huh

No christian we ever force anybody to accept Jesus Christ but is for your own good because life after death is much more important than the one you're living now.

Pls can you answer this questions if you have the idea:
* How come that a woman that doesn't have womb conceived and gave birth, i know this beyond any scientist knowledge. ( this is a testimony of a surgeon like you who didn't believe that there is God, but now he has believe).
* If scientist can describe how planet formed, then how did SUN came into and existence?
* How Doctor's are unable to heal some sicknesses but by prayers the sickness will go.

My advise for you just go into your closet and ask this just simple question, that if truly you exist God, reveal yourself to me. I know you we have testimony to share
Thank you for your concern smiley
However take it in good faith that I probably know the bible better than you which is because when i decide to do something, i do it well. And i was a christian for most of my life and soon as i became of an independent reasoning age, I decided to look into the phenomenon i was basing MY WHOLE LIFE ON just because my parents forced me to. I'm sure you can guess how it turned out.

1. The bibles many predictions which sometimes conflict are so vague, and even on the vagueness, its also not 100% accurate. It is somewhat accurate though. But then again the bible's books have been re-written so many times by so many people that many things have been changed on hindsight.

2. Whatever you believe would really work for you, Christianity has worked many miracles as well as Islam as well as whatever people base their faith on

3. Asking me how the sun came into existence is irrelevant. That's a poor question to use to try and baffle me anyway because just typing that on google would have provided you with the answer. I would have told you right here and now but I want you to think and find things out for yourself. Please try and make google your good friend. A hint is fusion.

4. Back to the faith idea. I can somewhat recollect a sickness where a woman's skin developed the texture of an elephant. the woman went to the hospital and the doctors were baffled because they had no idea what caused it and what could cure it. This woman had so much belief that doctors could cure anything. The doctors then decided to give her blank pills and told her that it would definitely cure her in 7 days. The woman left the hospital relieved and expected to be cured in 7 days and needless to say she was cured. No Gods involved. This is a phenomenon known as placebo. So if you pray or sing or somersault or swim or whatever and expect something to happen strong enough, it definitely would happen. Science has somewhat proven that our thoughts affect matter.
If I scale it down to an idea I hope you can relate to, If I am playing ludo and I expect with all certainty and no doubts whatsoever to roll a particular number and if maybe some people agree with me and share that belief, I would roll the number

Tried your suggestion over and over again but there is no God outside of me to answer me. I then realized myself for what I am, a god

Christianity EtcRe: Christians, Who Killed Saul? by Affiliated(op): 8:54am On Dec 25, 2012
striktlymi: Good morning Affiliated,

I really do not know whether your post is guided by a sincerity of purpose but I believe that it is a good thing to ask questions when in doubt. Todaynatoday has done a great job in trying to explain and I think his/her explanation makes sense.

Firstly, you should understand that sacred scriptures can be a bit tricky sometimes to understand if one does not have the right disposition to reading it. I believe firmly that sacred scripture is not just another book. We need to understand the message the author is trying to convey, the context in which some words were used and the underlying circumstance guiding the comments in sacred scriptures.
You rightly quoted:

1 Samuel 31:4-6
4 He said to the young man carrying his weapons, “Draw your sword and kill me, so that these godless Philistines won't gloat over me and kill me.” But the young man was too terrified to do it. So Saul took his own sword and threw himself on it. 5 The young man saw that Saul was dead, so he too threw himself on his own sword and died with Saul. 6 And that is how Saul, his three sons, and the young man died; all of Saul's men died that day.
Which happens to be the account of the author and depicts the manner in which Saul died. This account is also backed by

1 Chronicles 10:4
4 He said to the young man carrying his weapons, “Draw your sword and kill me, to keep these godless Philistines from gloating over me.” But the young man was too terrified to do it. So Saul took his own sword and threw himself on it.
Hence the answer to your question: “Who killed Saul?”. Saul was forced to commit suicide by the Philistines because he never wanted them to gloat over him before they eventually kill him.
Now in 2 Samuel 1:8-10, the author was trying to let us know the folly in giving false witness. Note that this was not the author’s account of the death of Saul but a claim made by an Amalekite. This Amalekite obviously was aware that David and Saul were not in good terms that David is likely to succeed Saul as king in the event that Saul and his son’s were dead, given that he lived in the midst of the people of Israel:
2 Samuel 1:13
13 David asked the young man who had brought him the news, “Where are you from?” He answered, “I'm an Amalekite, but I live in your country.”

I believe this Amalekite wanted to win the favour of David by telling him that he killed Saul. He knew the love David has for the king and his sons hence his tactics of feigning sorrow before divulging the news:

2 Samuel 1:2
2 The next day a young man arrived from Saul's camp. To show his grief, he had torn his clothes and put dirt on his head. He went to David and bowed to the ground in respect.
It is actually not uncommon for people to want to gain favour or propagate their selfish interest in the midst of a tragedy. Just like the information minister (Labaran Maku) lied when he said he was scheduled to be a passenger on the ill-fated helicopter that killed Governor Patrick Yakowa. If I were to write about the death of Patrick, I would also make reference to what Maku claimed; which was what the author tried to do in 2 Samuel 1:8-10.

Now for 2 Samuel 21:12
12 he went and got the bones of Saul and of his son Jonathan from the people of Jabesh in Gilead. (They had stolen them from the public square in Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hanged the bodies on the day they killed Saul on Mount Gilboa.)
This is quite clear, cause even in the practice of law, when an individual force another person to commit suicide through the use of force then the individual who forced the other man is guilty of murder. In the case of Saul, the Philistines forced him to take his own life by their actions. Though they can’t be charged for murder but if they were not in the picture, Saul would not have killed himself:

1 Samuel 31:1-2
“2 But the Philistines caught up with them and killed three of Saul's sons, Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua. 3 The fighting was heavy around Saul, and he himself was hit by enemy arrows and badly wounded.”
Even in soccer, it is the rule to attribute an own goal to the opponent because the own goal was a result of the pressure from the opposing team. So it makes sense to attribute the death of Saul to the Philistines.
It is not uncommon for the people of Israel to attribute the misfortune of someone to some sin against God. This was the case with Saul. Saul fell out of favour with God because Saul sinned against God. Assuming Saul was still with the favour of God he would not have ended in the way he did. The battle with the Philistines would have been a walk in the park for him. Since God decided to “abandon” Saul in that battle, it would be appropriate for the author to attribute the death of Saul to God.

In summary, the various accounts were meant to convey the same message but from different perspective.
The first account was meant to let us know the physical cause of Saul’s death, the second account tried to let us know how someone wanted to take advantage of the situation, the third was meant to let us know those who emerged victorious in that particular battle while the fourth was meant to let us understand the spiritual angle to Saul’s fall.

Thank you!
Thank you for your thorough explanation. I can't fault your logic
Christianity EtcRe: Christians, Who Killed Saul? by Affiliated(op): 8:52am On Dec 25, 2012
Todaynatoday: In a way we can say God slayed him because He removed His protective covering over Saul's life due to Saul's disobedience. God allowed Saul to die because he disobeyed God's direct command to him in regards to slaying the Amalekites and he also practised spiritism.
Now the truth is that Saul killed himself but since he lost a war to the philistines, they claimed victory for his death. Someone (the amalekite) knew that Saul wanted to kill David and when he saw Saul's dead body, he decided to claim victory for his death too. He went to David and pronounced himself as the killer of Saul in order to find favor in the eyes of David but he was killed for touching God's once anointed servant (although he never killed Saul, he lied thinking that David would honour him).
Hope you are satisfied now?
Thanks for the explanation. It explains it better than most could and I am a little bit more satisfied. But I am looking at the bible from the point of view of a perfect book that should contain no inaccuracy. About the God part, God passively allowed Saul to be killed and God didn't actively kill Saul. Saying God killed Saul is therefore inaccurate But let's just accept your explanation like that. About the philistines also, claiming the philistines slayed Saul is also inaccurate. The whole point of Saul committing suicide was so that such a claim wouldn't be made. It wasn't the philistines that was claiming victory in that case, that was the records of isreal

Who Killed Saul?

1. Saul committed suicide.

Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. So Saul died. 1 Samuel 31:4-6

Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 1 Chronicles 10:4

2. Saul was killed by an Amalekite.

And he [Saul] said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite. He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me. So I stood upon him, and slew him. 2 Samuel 1:8-10

3. Saul was killed by the Philistines.

The Philistines had slain Saul. 2 Samuel 21:12

4. God killed him.

So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse. 1 Chronicles 10:14.

I asked this question somewhere else and I got all sorts of funny replies from Saul committed suicide then before He died, He asked an Amalekite who was fighting for the Philistines to kill him quicker.
Then I got death threats for daring to research and question the word of God.
Needless to say I was very unsatisfied with the answers. So who killed Saul?

Uyi Iredia: Its skeleton ode. Evolution is a failed theory.

I surmise defects came after God cursed the world. In any case. name more.
One thing I've always asked people who believe in creation about evolution is this

1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

So God clearly created all plants and animals and humans herbivores. Why would some animals just choose to develop all the necessary body parts to make them carnivores alone. Then they would reply that Erm... and start abusing and threatening me. Some admit that the animals evolved and evolution started after creation while others say God recreated all the animals and then I asked where they got that knowledge from and we are back to the abuses and threats

You agree that the bible is a myth and yet you say that the wrath of God is coming soon. OK. what instrument did you use to detect the coming wrath? I'm sure you'll agree that the whole point of God giving people freewill is to exercise their own choices. So why are you threatening people doing God's will? Perform God's will by exercising your freewill to believe in God and leave others to perform God's will by exercising their freewill to not believe in God. I'm saying all this from a point of view you can relate to but let me add that from your logic, then you are also living in bondage of human beings like you because the wrath of God you claim is coming was also told to you by human beings
