@ Ibime it seems as if you are saying that the reason that we are in the position that we are in is due to our backwardness and NOT based on a worldwide WHITE conspiracy, but the question to ask is would we be where we are today had whites NOT degraded and dehumanised us in the past.

i am not wallowing in a form of collective self pity here i am merely trying to find a way out - in order to cure a problem you must first know what your problem is and where its coming from.
Is this not self pity, finding excuses
Career › Re: Salary - How Much Is Enough To Sustain An Average Nigerian by agitator: 12:48pm On Aug 25, 2009
Jemmie:
Things are very expensive in the market - thanks to the Federal Government. As the government claim to improve the standard of living of its subjects it stylishly destroys them knowingly or unknowingly after adding a few pennies to their salaries. Everything goes up in the market; edible, domestic things, etc. Transportation and every other means of having a better living get so expensive that they become luxuries for some people.
This is quite sad but it is the truth, before adding the pennies they will make much noise and will want praises for taking care of the workers
schmuck:
Earning salary is living a life of a slave, no matter how much you are earning.

Salary earners do not often know this fact or fails to accept the truth of it. There is nothing like working for yourself.
That is when you can say you are truly living. I am a testimony because I have tasted the two facets of life. God help us.
.

Everybody can not be self employed.

tkb417:
with 250k per month, such individual will be fine.
im assuming the wife/husband will be working and earning like 150k per month so a combined earnings of 400k monthly will be fine for the family (my assumption)

when kids start coming, they shld be thinking of hw to earn extra income to cater for the new additions to the family

personal opinion.
Population of nigeria is approximately 140M.  How many nigerian jobs pay, up to 150k/Month? Approximately less than 10M what will the rest do, remember majority salary  earners receive less than 30K/month (70% ofgovernment employees).

this Nwodo guy is a typical Nigerian Politician, when things dont go their way, they invite the military. Yes things are bad, so Nwodo does not believe in the same democracy he professes, he cant mobilize his people like Mahatma Ghandi, cant sacrifice his life like Mandela, cant engage the government in legal tussles like Gani. he seeks the easy way; MILITARY intervention. He doesnt care about the consequences; the lives that may be lost and the years it will take to recover. Oh yes, as long as i cant have it, or things are not good, let every thing spoil. Yes damage it all, after all he may be made a minister when they take over. Nwodo needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Its for the likes of him that we are in this mess.

I have even witnessed where some enterprising guys organised youngsters, under 15yrs, in PHC, everybody used to look forward to these games every evening until they started introducing what was happening in the nigerian league and the venue became empty.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Hitv Bans Unauthorized Public Viewing Of Premier League & Other Matches. by agitator: 4:52pm On Aug 20, 2009
@tbk417

what i was saying was that, you gave an estimate of potential viewers around 10 million,
and presently you have 300,000 subscribers with 50,000 not paying regularly.

i was suggesting why not think of how to make more people subscribe to and watch HiTV

Previously 250,000 subscribers at 4,500 = 1,125,000,000/Month
if you can get 5,000,000 of the then million at 3,000 = 15,000,000,000
Meanwhile this increase may reduce your subscriber base, let say by 50,000 leaving = 1,200,000,000

remember that when GSM services started very few people owned handsets, but when the price dropped more people and some even bought more than one set and line.

increasing the subscriber base doesn't mean increased cost, it's still the same equipment. Abi?
I know say you be dealer that's why you dey fight seriously because of your commission cool
but know that more subscribers more income

you surely know about the law of demand and supply but not how to apply it. . .
the active subscribers on Hitv is about 300,000. This means those subscribing monthly

there are those who pay this month and wont pay for 2 months, the category of these group gives about 250,000 and we have those who can afford to pay but are on another platform= roughly 500,000 people

in defining the potential mkts, i can safely say anybody that earns more than a 100,000 per month can afford to pay Hitv subscription per month( its just an assumption) andif we look at these sets of people, they are more than 10million in Nigeria

what does that tell you Mr FBS? that the potential demand is about 10million while the real demand is just about 400k average!!

its simple, the potential demand is there for Hitv to tap into

and when you talk of switching, you only switch when you have a close substitute with almost the same cost
is DSTV 6k? do you get the football games on DSTV?
can you use DSTV without Hitv for your viewing center biz?

the answers are NO!
DSTV is not a close substitute and even if u wanna switch, the cost is high!

so it brings you back to point zero
pay the required sum or close the biz!!

The risk of not doing well in the biz is the inability to get urself on the Hitv platform. U cant do a viewing center biz at tht cost without HITV
very simple my bro
1. 10Million potential subscribers
2. HiTV Subscriber 300,000
3. Active Subscribers 250,000

250,000 subscribers paying N4,500 = 1,125,000,000
5,000,000 subscribers paying 3000 =15,000,000,000
increasing to 6,000 maybe losing another 50,000. giving you 200,000 = 1,200,000,000

at no extra equipment cost. Award winning economist, it is called economies of scale

i'm 29 yrs old and just bought a land in abuja to build my second house. your man should be proud of the rock he has in you. at least you don't spend your money on expensive jewellry or reidiculously pricey laces.

It's a good job but my growth is limited because i don't have a Masters to back my CV unlke other employees neither do i have a Godfather in the industry to facilitate my promotion or my making a permanent staff. I have tried saving enough money to further my education and have recently gotten an admission to University of dundee to study MBA i International Oila and Gas Managment to start in september this year.

My challenge now is, i'm not entitiled to study leave and have to quit my job to allow me study full time which is 18 months. If i choose to do an online/ distance learning option, it would take me 3 to 5 years to complete and i'm scared i might loose concentration in such a long period of study (coupled with lagos traffic wahala causing me no time to study).

Considering the present employemt economics, i don't want to risk being jobless after my 18months return and i know how difficult it is to get a job these days - companies are just not employing.

To all those who flow and understand me, good for you . I now fully understand the statement , " POVERTY IS A STATE OF MIND" Thats why some people never succeed and even know what to do when they prosper. I realised why Nigerians have a very high level of heart failure/ high blood pressure. Majority of us don't know how to enjoy and invest in life the right way. Those who think buying gold bars / coins is a waste of money, shame on you. You should concentrate more on the economics of investement. 24 k Gold never falls short of its value, in fact , it gets more expensive as it gets older with you (particularly if its bought from a reputable manufacturer) it becomes an antique over time. Ever wonder how some people become extremely rich over night after the sale of a painting or portrait or even on things as odd as a bottle of wine. some things appreciate so well over the years and add a great deal to ones wealth.

How many of you out there have lost money to the crumble of the stock excange, or don't you know that a brand new car starts depreciating the moment it is bought? For those who wonder my questioning his choice of a car gift to his sister. well i can tell you for sure that the sister contributed nothing to his life as she got married at the age of 20 while he (my friend's fiance) is 40 years old. so tell me what good she could have contributed to his struggle to the top.And mind you. The sister's wedding was in May this year and i'm VERY SURE the economy has hit rock bottom by then, yet he had such money to spend . Girls out there, may you never meet a man who is controlled by his mother, everyone around knows the mother adviced him to but the sistyer a car since she had none. so who's the real gold digger herehuh

As for those who say i know too much of my friends relationship, that's cos we are like sisters, we confide in each other all thru life. some girlfriends feel more comfortable having personal discussions with their female best friends rather than partents. And mind you, her paretnts had not influenced her choice of dowry. They are responsible citizens and parents. Don't blame her for her dream, pls dream your dream and start enjoying life ,

My firned felt very bad cos most of our other girls travelled themselves to fill their boxes. How can a 60+ old woman know what a young girl needs e.g. type of lingerie, perfumes, nighties etc. Her mother in law wants to control every thing her son does for my friend.
See she was comfortable to go with her friend to Dubai at the man's expense but
cooljade: I raised this issue cos i wonder why a man would feel comfortable spending big money on trivial things and even buying his sister a car worth 6 milion naira and making huge donations at launchings and notbother to fulfill his brides wish. It has nothing to do with selling one's self and virginity.
To you it’s trivial spending HIS money on things he likes, but your friend’s 24K Gold is the most important thing he should spend on. You now know what is important for a man to spend HIS PERSONAL MONEY on. Hustle for your money and spend the way you like.
This whole thing is just because his mother deprived you of a free ticket to Dubai for shopping. Gold digger get a life.

@ davidylan, why would he beat her? if he loves her enough he should give her wht she wants afterall is she going to eat the gold? she'll probably keep it as part of her estate that would be passed on to their children. that's why you men especially Nigerian guys hardly buy expensive gifts for their wives cos you are always stingy and unromantic. if its a sheik from dubai now, he'll see the gold coin dowry as a pride, he'll add a house and a mercedes join sef, ( all if he can afford)
Why are u hiding? Don't you know the way to Dubai. You should have known that there are no Sheiks in Nigeria. Stupid f**king retard.

@Thor, Dowry is customary and peculiar to the african continent ( and some parts of the world). it depends on the woman whether she wants to be dragged to the registry unceremoniousy and hitched or celebrated in true feminity. I LOVE and appreciate the whole drama that comes with traditional marriage; Ibo, Yoruba or especially Hausa (where lots of goodies are given in boxes smiley wink grin grin shocked
Later you will start talking of female liberation. Don't you know that male dorminance is part of the African tradition?

When i joined this forum, i saw nairalanders as cultured, intelligent progressive minded individual who are excelling in their various fields of human endeavours. People that are endowed with high sense of discretion and great sense of humour. But alas, attacks on our banking system has generated a conflict of interest, and subsequently, this has made us to attack ourselves individually and collectively. I read with great shock and utmost disbelief our different views on this topic. Objectivity forbids taking a side to a story and expressing any form of bias or sentiment on an issue of national interest.
All topic aimed at attacking our banking system have created more problems than an enlightenment they were meant to provide. The initiator of such topics designed them with a sole aim of seeking other accomplice that would help in running down an institution rather than seek clarification on a seemingly confusing issue.E.g. INTERCONTINENTAL BANK OF FRAUD, OCEANIC LAY OFF 1500 IN ONE MONTH, WHAT IS WRONG WITH INTERCONTINENTAL ETC
Now lets talk, when are we going to stop destroying our banks on this forumhuh WE HAVE DEALT MERCILESSLY WITH INTERCONTINENTAL, RUTHLESS WITH OCEANIC- what's more? Some people worked and prayed endlessly for these banks to remain an entity so when are we going to stophuh And directly or indirectly we got people working with them too.
Foremost, people should do their home work well before raising topics that would make us attack ourselves.
I have different accounts in top 5-banks here, ranging from savings account to current to business current to domiciliary ET AL.
Nigeria banks are different in style but the same in substance. By that i meant they are all looking for obnoxious profit in the face of a vicious com petion and it is you and i that will provide that profit. The ON different like i said is that the style of making you to contribute to their bottomline differs. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT A BANK IS A PROFIT MAKING INSTITUTION AND NOT A CHARITY ORGANIZATION
What is the hullabaloo about INTERCONTINENTAL charging you N500 that we are attacking ourselves, PHB charged me N1000.00 when i never requested for the card and so on(PLESAECONFIRM). I got a text from Zenith for my Card, First bank and GTb said i should come and pick it up and i know all these cannot be free in its entirety. NO BE NAIJAhuh

LET DROP BANKING LOOK AT DSTV, HITV AND CO, WHETHER YOU WATCH IT OR NOT YOU ARE PAYING AT MONTH END IN NIGERIA  WHERE THEIR IS NO LIGHT. WHY ARE THEY NOT LIKE YOUR RECHARGE CARD FOR US TO PAY PER VIEW AS IN SOME PART OF THE WORLD?

NAIRALANDERS HAVE NOT SEEN ANY WRONGDOING OR BEING CHEATED IN THIS BUT ON BANKING WHERE THE COST OF DOING BUSINES IS VERY HIGH ESPECIALLY COST ON DIESEL, SECURITY,staff remuneration etc
PLEASE LET STOP DESTROYING THESE BANKS OR ELSE PEOPLE WOULD MAKE ME TO THING THEY ARE PAID FOR SUCH AFTERALL YOU GOT OTHER OPTIONS IBPLC,FIRST,GTB,ZENITH,UBA AMONG OTHERS. - My regards
Are you implying that in other countries where they don't charge there is no running cost?

Please let us stop comparing US and Naija.

In nigeria, if a robber is let go and the police is told that no gun was used during the operation, all the bank staff would be sent to the police station and their poor family told to come and bail them (may be N5m per head) and told to report to the office every day.

Any day the DPO runs short of Money, he would send his boys to come and pick them up and process start all over again.
anybody wey no want to drop na Awaiting Trail, and eventually forggoten

Even if the community % arrives, PDP people will install their stooges as community heads, as they have been doing and setting confusion, to take the money and share among themselves
