Like I said, you may not like Dora's methods (I don't too) but using your analogy, should the grandchildren then sit down and fold their hands and allow people to call them rapists and thieves because of what the chiefs and elders do? What's more painful is that the people who maltreat the grandchildren for the sins of their elders will not dare maltreat these elders.

My point is, Ibori, Igbinedion, Kalu, etc and all the thieves in Government do not suffer the maltreatment and name calling we the average Nigerians get all around the world. Their children can afford to go to the best schools and no embassy dares refuse them visa. We are the ones who go through strict and almost impossible visa requirements, we are the ones who suffer the indignity at airports when we travel, we are the ones who get laughed at by our mates from other countries and therefore, we need REBRANDING.
If the head of the family (family chief) and elders are still members of the king's council and provide wines during the council meetings, you think the other elders would mind, but rest assured when their kith and kin want to marry or have any dealings with the member of the family, the bad image will be highlighted and pointed out boldly.  Although some explorers will go ahead, afterall even children of self confessed wizards/witches still get married to people from bad families.

If the children don't like the bad name then they should deal with the situation at the family level first before trying to address others opinion.  with noticeable changes of the family members it becomes easier.

A thing that a lot of us do not understand is that the bad image Nigeria is getting is affecting us Nigerians and it will get worse! Infact if anyone should be rebranding, I think it is Nigerians all around the world themselves. Its like a family name with a bad name, it is those who bear the name that have the responsibility to 'rebrand' it.
When the chief and elders of the family with a bad name live up to their name by raping, stealing and committing all sort of atrocities that gave the family a bad reputation and earned them the bad name. You think the grand children can change that by going through town to chant “WE ARE NOT BAD, OUR FAMILY IS THE MOST HONEST’?

Even if it was drug and robbery related crimes! were they given the opportunity of fair hearing during the trial period, If any?Executing of 30 Nigerians at a go can not be justified by what ever standard. Be it drug related, robbery etc. What has happened to  life sentence in extreme cases
I think their laws are clear on punishments for offenses, last year a chinese high ranking official (equivalent of NAFDAC boss) was executed for bribery. Also i heard in the news recently that some people involved in the recent ethnic riotings had been condemned to death, and if I'm not mistaken they are chinese citizens.

When you go to a foreign land don't think you can bend their laws the way we allow foreigners to break and bend our laws.

Oil pollution: Community cries out for help
Metro Sep 2, 2009

BARUWA,  a suburb of Lagos is not an oil-producing community just as Lagos is not classified as an oil-producing state. So, ordinarily there is no reason why the community should suffer the ravages of oil pollution or be embroiled in oil-related crisis.

This post is from an obviously disgruntled youth who could not get a job cos he isnt connected. The guy does not even believe in merit.
Guy, I've a job on merit not even through paper qualification (and if there is no job, i can be self employed with my skills) if you care to know, but it doesn't mean because I'm comfortable i shouldn't speak out against injustice (This is common Nigerian mentality well to do people have no problem since they can afford their needs).

Truely the FG and the Oil companies have neglected the ND.  But the militant struggle has not improved the lives of the Niger Deltans as a whole, except for a few of the militants (the leaders) who live comfortably.  This is blindness and i'm not blind.

The Leaders we have here, who we see daily instead of solving our problems, with the little they have, what are they doing, embezzling the money to live as big shots and we foolishly worship them for peanuts (I detest worshipping them).

They are now telling you that even the primary schools which is the responsibility of state govt and Lga should now be the responsibility of the federal (built, staffed and equipped by the federal government).  They are shifting the attention from themselves to FG. why? very few people can have access to the FG.

If the state and local govts do their parts instead of complaining, and tell the indigenes they should protest for federal to allocate more money. what do you think will happen?

Politics › Re: Bankole To Niger Delta: Your Leaders Failed You by agitator: 10:29am On Oct 17, 2009
All these are propagandas which only fools will buy into.  The major problem we have in Nigeria is that majority are corrupt and corrupt minded (approximately 75%).  I am a niger delta and have been living here and is still living in the niger delta.  You cannot compare the level of corruption in the niger delta to any other place.  People being employed in more than one place while others are jobless. The same niger delta people that are making noise all over of how the other tribes have been short changing them in terms of employment, when job opportunities are available they sell to outsiders leaving their brothers (I mean same parents) jobless.  What of the employment process, by recommendation, house of assembly member knowing fully well that his relation is already employed once any new opportunity arise the same family members that are already employed their names will still be sent whereas there are more qualified jobless niger deltans who are willing to work.  These people who are recommended are not willing to work because they are recommended by one big man or the other, and so can not be sacked like that, they are only interested in the wages/salaries they will collect at the end of the month (causing us to be labelled as lazy people who don’t want to work hard [but a few who manage to break these obstacles work really hard surprising their employers]).

Talk of development, local governments no single project. Procedure every month – collect allocation – keep in fixed deposit – after three months pay workers 1month salary – remainder shared.

If I should detail everything that is happening here, it will be equivalent of the “Roots” novel in volume/size.

desthan:
Bankole, Shut your trap, Solution: Remove the damn immunity clause, period
What of Odili, Ibori, etc do they still have immunity?

Immunity clause does not stop somebody from being prosecuted for criminal offences. the Governor of Illinois is presently facing prosecution.

All countries have immunity clause to protect the governor/president and the deputy/vice from civil suits, so that he can concentrate on his job, and not immunity from criminal cases such as embezzlement, murder, rape, etc.

You see this is the general mentality of Nigerians like i use to say over and over.

This scenario is what used to happen when policemen started collecting money from commercial vehicle drivers, the passengers use to justify it being that the policemen stand under the sun all day, and giving them =N=5 was nothing compared to what they are doing.  These people forgot that, it is what the policemen were employed to do and are being paid for.  Now every major road mostly in south nigeria you have policemen in some places as at intervals of 500m just to collect money and we are now crying, this happens right in front of police stations (toll gates).

Go to ministries you hear the slogan "where man work na there him dey chop". the same scenario is on, if you want to conduct any official business after paying the official amount you are required to part with some extra money for the hardworking officals.

Just take a look everywhere, you will see what I'm telling you.

Now the new kid on the block is "steal and invest it in Nigeria then you are justified"

and some morons will come and preach to me to see the positives in Nigeria to make things better.

Is this not the same thing the whole African continent had been accusing the colonial master of doing, stealing from them and using to develop their countries and later giving peanuts as aids to further enslave Africa?

Why are we then asking for reparations?

TV/Movies › Re: HiTV Subscribers Question And Answer Forum by agitator: 9:17am On Oct 14, 2009
The mentality of Nigerian businessmen is just to make money and when people complain, their response is go to hell.  Why? Because they have made some millions through our collective patronage and feel their customers are not important anymore.  When the customers start leaving, then they will start playing the patriotism card. SUPPORT MADE IN NIGERIA, APPECIATE MADE IN NIGERIA, PROUDLY NIGERIA.  If they had listened to customers complaints and worked towards resolving issues raised, all these wouldn't have been necessary.

Secondly most businesses products/services are priced beyond what the average nigerian can afford, remember the minimum wage in nigeria is =N=5,500. There are more people earning less than =N=20,000/month approximately 70% of government work force and you expect same people to pay =N6,000. for TV watching only not mentioning basic necessities such as food, housing, transportation to work, children school fees, health, light bills/fuel for generators to watch your satellite tv.

Since your service is exclusively for the rich continue and see how far you can go.

This is the typical nigerian mentality, that's why things will never get better. They will be preaching and defending corruption later when they don't derive the benefits or are in the opposite camp they will start crying foul.

Government Ekpelumo

Ateke Tom

All have made money and want to be re-integrated into the society. This whole Amnesty deal is nothing more than a photo op between the militants and the President. And from recent new it looks like Yar'adua is very obsessed with the photo op.

But what we have seen is that when these militant leaders leave the scene another leader always emerge and the rest of the country and security forces will spend another 6 - 12 months learning who they are and how they operate.

I think Government should stop trying to circumvent the real issue by signing amnesty deals with militants who have made money for themselves and would rather want to spend more time enjoying their largesse.

The only solution is addressing the infrastructural problems, tackling corruption, devolution and resource control.
That way the battle for hearts and minds will be lost by the militants and anybody threatening the peace of the rest of us will be declared an enemy of state and every nook and crany of the country will support the full might of the state falling on them.

But right now that is not the case because these peace deals with only those who had the temerity to carry guns against the state does not put food on the table of the man from oloibiri and infact gives more younger people more reason to go into militancy than not.
At least that seems the only way to get Government attention.

The only solution

For decades they where threatening Russia, but couldn't attack. In less than a decade they attacked Iraq, because they knew Iraq doesn't have the military might to withstand their technology.
