I am sure that someday, someone will put all our previous federal politicians to shame. Where that man/woman will come from, we do not know but be rest assured that It will happen.

I will be 30 years in a few months and I have never felt so much unease as I do right now. I work with one of the federal parastatals and I am currently on level 10 going to 12 next year. I have a Master degree athough it is not exactly relevant to my current job.

The problem is that my organisation uses the Ministry salary structure and my monthly net is below 80k even as a level 10 staff.

I am not married and I am academically inclined. Asides having a Master degree, I have over 8 professional certifications.

I have been trying to clinch a transfer of service to a better parastatal where the remuneration is better and where my knowledge/experiences as a science graduate will be better appreciated but it has been a bit difficult.

However, just before the COVID-19 episode in Nigeria, I got the right link for a transfer of service to a better parastatal but the process got stalled with the COVID-19 palaver.

I have 4 siblings who are Canadian citizens and they have been on my neck to migrate. I never took the calls seriously until this lockdown period. My siblings are arguing about the uncertainty of the Nigerian economy post-covid and advising me to seize this opportunity to migrate and start a new career over there?

My question therefore, "is it wise to stay back since I have gone quite far in my public service career and just wait for the opportunity to transfer my service to a better paying federal parastatal OR do I migrate to Canada and start a new career?

Your honest inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

being in level 10 does not tell us how many years you have put into Fed Civil Service because we don't know what was your entry level based on your qualifications. If you have been confirmed, good. If you have worked up to 10 years, better(meaning you're entitled to gratuity and pension).
If the later is the case, I will advice you not just to pack up your bags and travel to CA. This is because, once you leave Naija and travel overseas, within the first 6 months, the thoughts that will come to you are "e be like say I don make mistake oo". "This thing no dey as I been reason am o". "I been dey do well for Naija pass this level naa". No matter who you be, no matter the family wey you get abroad, no matter how rosy your friends wey dey abroad been paint am, you must face huge shock, left, right, center (serious gbas!gbos!!). As you arrive, after 3days max, you're on your own. The only exception to the shock is if your are a politically exposed Nigerian pikin wey your thieving parents don buy house abroad and you travelled with a Mastercard wey "carry weight".
So, back to the main point. I will advise you to process a study leave, with or without pay based on what is obtainable in your ministry. Go to Canada as a student ( relevant M.Sc as u said). If you reach there and survive the shock I explained above, you send in your resignation from there and stay. But if you get there and dislike the climate, poor social life, starting afresh both in carrear and life generally, you jejelly come back home. After all, you are in line to be a director or permsec all things being equal. Good luck

while I want to say that this is a nice development, we should not forget that it was the status quo before (1999-2007) and local government politicians were ruthlessly killing and maiming one another. Looting at the grassroot was also massive then which prompted an amendment to cut their wings.
However, since we have tasted the ills of both sides and came back to what it is supposed to be, I hope grassroot politicians will behave.

Personally, I didn't realize this until I left Naija.
However, I think that there is hope if we can eliminate ethnic and religious bigotry and chose the right people for the right jobs irrespective of where they come from.that will be a nice place to start.

serious ones. The worst part is that since there main business now is data due to WhatsApp, zoom, Viber etc., they make it a point of duty to deplete it with an annoying rate from customers account. Nobody knows how they really bill users for data. They need someone to sue them or to be called out on social media before they'll amend their ways. A boycott may also work.
It took me to leave Naija to understand how wicked MTN is. Until they adopt monthly unlimited data subscription plan like what we have here , our people remain their slaves.

those other measures are part of the reasons Nigeria is the way it is. We always believe there are other ways of circumventing law and order which encourages us not to do the right thing. After all, there must be a way out. In turn, the law enforcers capitalize on those other options which equates to bribery and corruption.
Gush we don't just get it in that part of the world. Please don't EVER teach your children or younger ones around you that there are other measures to adopt when they disobey law and order because the absolute truth is, there is none. Crime attracts punishment.

All these people condemning what Wike did are typical of the reason Nigeria is the way it is. It is very sad that in Nigeria people don't really know or understand what these words mean: "Law" "Rules/Regulations" and "Order".
Here in the west that you guys always adore and want to migrate to by all means, if the law says assault is punishable by minimum of 5 years imprisonment, even if you are the Army Chief of Staff and you slap someone or assault anyone, it is guaranteed that you do at least 5yrs jail time. If the law states that if you wrongfully park your vehicle there, that you will pay a minimum of 200£ fine, try it and you will be lucky to pay 450£. This is because not just that you broke the law but how long you wrongfully parked will come into play. Note, they will call you sir with a bold smile on their face while dishing out these penalties. Like "here's your ticket Sir/Ma'am"

That is why there is order here. What is written is written. Get that my people.

Do not see this as a time to challenge your parents. There are reasons God kept them alive for you. If the girl shows genuine willingness to learn your language and culture, explain to your mom/dad that you understand their concerns about tribal cum cultural conflicts and convince them that your spouse will definitely overcome all that with time, I believe they will then encourage you to marry her.
