Placing of the pre-cast linted. Ratio for the casting 4 headpan of sharp sand and 5headpam of gravel with 1 bag of cement gave us five pre-cast linted of 4ft while above casting ratio gave us three pre-cast linted of 7ft

I think the gravel should be 6 or 7 headpans as u av used 4 headpans of Sand for one bag of cement

For a good and appropriate height use 2 blocks course plus the beam under slab making the height 3….. which mean from lintel top you will have about 2.5ft which is ok

Same height was used here and after Pop ceiling I still have adequate room height ( pics attached)

For the column you asked if you are using
Ratio 1:2:4 you will need 1.5 approx bag of cement
Means the total 16 pillar will be 16*1.5bags =24bags
Add waste like 2bags or so… =26bags of cement

Please like how many tons of granite and Sharp sand should I b looking at in casting 16 pillars of 9", inches and all the beams? Is soft Sand necessary in mixing concrete for pillars and beams?

And also likely cement bags for the upper beams @ the mixing ratio above 1:2;4

I prefer a minimum of three coaches but with the way POP designing is now been implemented, I will go for four coaches for a good headroom/tall ceiling. This gives the built a grand sense of optical space and elegance.

My Comrade we have seen a lot in this field, May God help us all.
At times when you go for cement bag counting as charges … they are ready to waste your cement I.e when a slab required 10bags of cement they will make it like 13 bags or more in other to increase there payment at the end of the daily work.
Someone need to be vigilant always.

Like someone said above, we need someone reliable to b around our project, imagine a bricklayer decided to measure 15 headpan of sand for 1 bag of cement for setting blocks contrary to 12 headpan of sand Instructed nd when confronted he refused to measure the stipulated portion claiming it's a standard until we change it for him big time nd treating to sack him before he heed to our instructions to measure 12headpan. We need to b around because these guys are foolish pple and are ready to do away with our materials if chanced.

Yes, the mix ratio is vey simple my “BABA LATI bricklayer SON even know this …. More so if the sharp sand is lighter in nature , go for ratio 1:5= 10 head pan.

It’s good to follow due process, building supposed to last btw 70-100yrs or more

Of course yes, practically speaking, 12 headpan of sand to 1 bag of cement will set 55 numbers of 9" inch blocks

10mm - 15mm thickness coupled with ratio 1:5 / 1:6
Same application to our block setting ..ratio 1:6

To be on a safer side go and do An affidavit relating to the names on your birth cert. and all other document, then you declare how you want to be using it. If it is two names or three names you want to be using.

[Good day, I see we are talking about columns only what about the foundation mat. By Rule of thumb 4 nos of 16mm is required for a starter bars but don't be surprised a proper design may show you that some columns can use 12mm sufficiently. What I see here is that there is no prior structural design in this project you are building on what people say and do within that vicinity. My piece of advice pause the project engage a good structural engineer and use the out put of the design for corrections. It's not about changing the size of the reinforcements bars but the load the columns will be expected to support. The size and numbers of rebars provided for each column is a function of the load and area.

You need to let us know the numbers of floor that will be supported by the column as well as the distance between each columns.
This can be determined from the structural layout of each floor and roof.

You should also seek the services of a structural engineer for an on-site assessment.

Pls dont continue as I believe 12mm is not the right one . My structural Engineer used 16mm from foundation for the same type of building and he used 12mm on the upper floor with some keep pillars using 16mm . Consult a good Engineer to avoid stories that touch

Well, if the reading is still between 11.5mm - 11.7mm I believe is still okay. Since there is no regulatory body monitoring the manufacturing standard we will keep on having this issues .

Did you involve engineer from the begining of the project? Because 12mm reinforcement is not the right iron for storey building. You might need to introduce another pillar using 16mm to support the existing one.

Building engineer and structural engineer are on this forum, they will throw more light on how you will go about it .

Yes I involved an engineer nd I was told 12mm is ok but the welder collected money for 12mm nd got this type which 12mm was written on it's body but after d casting I decided to check d iron with caliper we discovered its below 12mm in size nd it's already casted. D engineer said that's d 12mm everyone is using but am still worried because d caliper show that it's not d full 12mm size but 12mm was written on it's body

I paid one useless welder to buy me a 12mm rod for 5feet foundation pillars, believe me he actually bought a rod with 12mm inscription on it but after casting of the pillars am not pleased with the look of the iron Rod nd I went to that site with a caliper nd discovered that that iron is 10mm nd 12mm is written on it. Thanks to God I didn't give him the whole iron to buy for the whole beam and the long pillars. I later found out that is how they make their abnormal profits. Real 12mm is actually available, when they get to the store they demands for that to make more money. Hence forth till eternity I will buy all my iron rod myself nd always check them with a caliper b4 payment

Imported cables written 25mm if you measure it with caliper together with calculation involve , what you will get is 15.6mm .. Always tell my client that cables manufactured in Nigeria is always the best
