I hate commenting on Nairaland threads, for reasons best understood by right thinking people, but the ton of crap being poured out on this particular thread makes the task of commenting less revolting to me.

People have to realize the gravity, and impact of what they write on here, and its implications in the real world. Whatever is posted or published on a pervasively accessible public forum can, if sensitive enough lead to consequences that are more complex and are as unexpected as the butterfly effect.

People on here are passing off personal opinions as actual, factual information. Discussants are purposefully creating mischievous information just for the sake of their ego. The particularly annoying thing is that they continue to defend the indefensible in the face of actual facts. People defend points that are fundamentally illogical at first glance, and out-rightly laughable upon deep analysis. Even though some of these false information are laughable, the consequences are not. The consequences of misinformation are terrible. Misinformation has been known to kill people, cause wars, create problems and create calamity. This is why Journalism is a profession. So that we will be reasonably assured as to the factuality of the information been passed across as News. It is an error of impermissible and unpardonable proportions for a journalistic outfit not to verify, ascertain, cross check, edit and be sure of the facts surrounding a story. It is an error of epic proportions for a Journalist to interchange Ogbomosho In Oyo state for Ogbomosho in Osun State, assuming there was no mischievous intention in the act, where is the professionalism behind the report? if a Journalist can not be sure as to the actual geographical location of a cogent point in a report, how credible can that journalist be, how competent is he/her, how reliable is the information.....Journalism is a profession, No errors ARE ALLOWED , because of the grave consequences it can have, on the polity, and the people.based on this anybody who takes that report serious must have his head checked.

But we are idealists, so let us assume just for the sake of argument that certain facts of the report are true( minus the City Name). let this be a lesson for all future idea originators when making presentations to VCs or Other Corporate entities. I entered the banking hall, was directed by a perfectly rude customer care officer to an equally rude guy in charge of atm complaints, people were on a queue- standing, and this guy was gisting and discussing with his mates....the anger i was feeling then was volcanic, but i managed to control myself in the face of all the sly and polite insults this guy was throwing at customers, like ''kindly join the queue'', '' kindly exercise some patience''.....e.t.c., saying this to people who have been waiting for tens of minutes, while you chat away unhurriedly on the phone is the highest form of disrespect a corporate body can show to its customers.

After the whole stuff, i was told to write my name and acct number, and that the stuff will be treated within 24hrs......that was on Monday.....i went there again, nothing has happened, i was promised it will be treated under 24 hrs again. All the stories about the war apart, who brought tribalism to Nigeria politics?

How many of us know about carpet crossing? my question for the Yorubas is, what did Awolowo tell the Yorubas that cross-carpeted from NCNC to AG. That marked the birth of Tribalism in Nigeria politrics.

Before that Eyo Ita A Calabar as we Igbos call them is the HEAD of NCNC in the East, An Hausa was a mayor of Enugu. It took Awolowo's instigated cross carpeting in Lagos, to stop Zik from being the first Premier of Western Region. This forced Zik to come back to East and displace Eyo Ita as the leader of NCNC in the East. That was the origin of the Problem between the Igbos and our Calabar brothers.

Of course that was the birth of the mutual suspicion between the Igbos and Yorubas. That would be the only reason while Zik would prefer joining the NPC and not Awo to form a government after our Independence. I also suspect the British must have encouraged Zik also to join the North.

Also, today we are all shouting true Federalism. Was Awolowo not responsible for destroying Nigeria Federalism? He was the only Experienced politician in Gowon's cabinet when they turned our Federal constitution up-side-down. Before the war, funds were shared purely on derivation. The regions have 60% while 40% goes to the center. The collection of the funds were the responsibility of the regional government. During and after the war, they gave the whole funds to the Federal government. They gave the collection to the Federal government. Awolowo was like a father in that cabinet. He was in the midst of young men most of whom look up to him. Yet he allowed all these abnormalities.

Today, the Awoist are more in demand for a true federalism and principle of derivation to be brought back to our constitution. The very principle that Awolowo helped to destroy. Who can explain these to me.

Sorry, I am not holding only Awolowo to account. After a study of Nigeria political past, the only man I can excuse for being a "good but ignorant fool" is Tafawa Belewa. Zik cannot come too clean, just like Awolowo. Ojukwu has his own manipulations. Sauduna, though worked for his people helped in dividing the country more.

To me, we do not have any past hero. These people laid the foundation for the hell of a country we are in today. Forget it they were all mostly driven for the lure of power. We can do better as youths to avoid their bad ways.

The only hero we would have had was Nzeogwu but like all progressives, he under-estimated the powers of the evil men around him. I personally hold Ojukwu responsible for his death. Not only is there a great suspicion that he was killed by Biafran soldiers, Ojukwu refused to assign a command to him out of fear. Nzeogwu as a hero he is chose to operate a one man show - going up the Nsukka axis of the war to fight alone until he was killed. I have people that told me personal accounts of how he operated during the war. Still shed tears when I read or hear about him.

If only Nigeria youth can appreciate this fallen hero the way American black celebrate Malcom X. Nzeogwu was more like our Malcom X.

That said, we all know that people who compare, or deign to have the shadow of the thought that CU is better than UI are only indulging in psychological consolation, and so we should tolerate them in this regard.

As much as i would not like to join issues with you, seeing that you seem not to have more productive occupations at the moment, at the same time i would like to remind you, or tell you about something they call argumentum ad hominem, while it is clear that the ''palm-wine tapper'' and the ''akara seller professors'' at the UI have taught me how to present my views in a public debate in an ethically balanced manner, it is apparent that CU ''professors'' have not done the same job on you.


To make my point clear; since i see that you are intellectually unfit (through no fault of your own, but possibly genetic) to understand my previous post, as lucid as it is, in a STANDARD university setting, you have three classes of lecturers, professors, doctors and the others,, while most systems in Nigeria use a mix of the three, 90 percent of my lecturers were FULL professors, the rest were doctors, capisce?

@Mr Beaf, while i have always followed your postings with a detached interest, i cannot help but respond to this particular posting. i want to believe that the comment attributed to your username in this particular thread is cynical, because if it is not so, the said statement has just shown that you actually endorse a form of federalism that wastes money in creating bureaucracies whose functions overlap with each other and which serve nothing but superficial purposes. at a time when Mr Good-luck Jonathan should implement means of cutting down the costs of running government and streamlining the various bureaucratic establishments to make them truly efficient and functional, this particular move is really disappointing.i beg to ask , who will fund this latest bureaucracy?, how will it benefit the masses in a way that the local council has been unable to ?, why, if i may ask not redesign and reposition the local government bureaucracy in a more efficient way so that it would serve the same purpose behind this recent creation, instead of indirectly increasing Nigeria's recurrent expenditure and providing another avenue for politicians and corrupt citizens to embezzle public funds and mismanage the common resources of this nation, through the creation of an authority whose public projects and responsibilities will end at buying posh ''official'' cars for the people in charge?,

this is commendable, but i still do not understand the reason why Nigerian youths fail, always fail to take a realistic approach in solving our collective problems, aping happenings in the western world cannot help us, people use hunger strike as a weapon where the perceived targets are believed to have a sense of shame, Nigerian politicians do not fall into this class, in fact any corrupt person in Nigeria does not fall into this class, they are so pathetic that they do not know what honor , integrity or patriotism means,so in order to defeat this particular strain of human societal viruses, the youth must adopt pragmatic approaches, and not approaches that stops at earning them headlines,or making them feel good about themselves.we must be pragmatic, and an hunger strike has no meaning whatsoever in combating systemic political and economic corruption in Nigeria. obviously, it is only the politically naive individual who will fall for such a publicity stunt like Mr wale's purported arrest, we are all aware of his antecedents.the way forward is this, join a political party, as long as it is popular or relevant in your constituency, and start the revolution from within, this is not the ideal way forward, but it is the pragmatic step forward , for the realists among patriotic Nigerian youths, and not those inclined to courting cheap fame by all means possible.
