Stanley Divine: Ethically, possession of an academic degree can't be a reason not to indulge in criminal activities.Rather sound moral principles is.
In reality any Nigerian is a latent criminal activated by time n circumstance. Those who think otherwise are those who re out of touch wt facts on ground or sheer pretenders. Our men of God,traditional n political leaders, parents are role models of criminality,so why wud it be any news that a latent-crimnal Phd holder has bn activated.
In Naija bn law-abiding or religious is nonsensical.
That is the reality. Only the pragmatic will agree with you.

IbnTimothy: Madam,
No man on earth will be confortable with you adding your ex on any social media, except the low self esteemed onces with a false sense of security.... or better still, the one just having a fling with you and don't really care who else you flirt with.

..... I think you need corrections more than him
Whao.....so if i decide not to be annoyed or jealous because i trust my babe, even when she adds her ex on social sites, it means i have low self esteem...?....your psychological portrayal of the scenario is really fascinating.........ridiculously so.

So you mean its okay to be close marking your babe 24/7, and questioning her every move....is she in jail, or a relationship. if you cannot trust her why are you with her...?...if you are with her for the fuks, it doesnt make sense to be closemarking her, if you are with her for the long stretch...then you just have to trust her enough not to be questioning her every move.

It aint cool to show your jealousy, or to be jealous....if you are jealous ...then you must be doing something wrong.....or maybe you have esteem problems....and are in a state of denial of your esteem problems.

sauer: This is the dostoyevskyian argument, which in itself is not bad. You are however missing the possibility of man's inclination to further use this "god" to perpetrate even more evil acts. And how many examples exist in history and in today's world? Is it the crusades? or suicide bombings? or the Spanish inquisition? I bet if man lived without "god", we may have indeed less evil than if he lived with "god". Well, at least we have not tried that. But records (the closest we have) from the least religious countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, etc) show that less religion could mean more happiness in life.
It is simple: Religion causes problems, Your belief in the EXISTENCE of a God doesn't. The most important thing is to believe God exists, and strive to live a morally and ethically balanced life. Religion complicates things with the rituals and all,I choose what I believe in religious doctrine, if it doesn't make sense, I don't do it..(tithes and the rest). It makes sense to believe a God exists, on a logical level I accept that, on a spiritual level I do. It makes sense to believe in Jesus's Christ message,on a moralistic level I accept his teachings, on a spiritual level I believe in the power in his name through faith, logicians don't do faith, I am deliberately illogical in this sense. I don't bother myself with other religious crap. Getting to heaven or hell is not by believing in God alone, but by living a morally just life. So many Christians will end up in hell, where many Muslims, pagans and animists are making heaven, it is not about the religion , it is about the life you are living.

Logic Mind: see intellectual gymnastics.
it is even odd seeing how you try to use pascal's wager to justify a belief you now accept is personal. I would bet that there are not up to 3 people in the world who believe the exact things you believe in. yet you are telling us that 7 billion would burn in hell because you believe in an entity powerful beyond comprehension.
please.
a belief you now accept is personal, My belief has always being personal,if it intersects with somebody elses, then it may come into the public domain, I dont know of any pascals wager and I don't bother myself with theological positions, I don't force my beliefs down people's throat, I believe getting to heaven or hell is not about how religious you are or the religion you practice, it is about believeing in God, and living a MORALLY upright life, I do not claim that it is only if you follow my steps(who i be...?) that you will make heaven, if you believe in God....There are many paths to the market.

What if the muslims were right? You will just end up like me.
What if the mormons were right? What if the jews were right?
You do not have a monopoly of god.
When you place bets as an investor, you calculate all relevant risks and the most diligent investor will bet on atheism because it is the one with the most chance of not losing everything.
Like I stated in an earlier post, objectively i believe in only One God, the law of karma and the law of love. I do not claim to understand God's nature, or seek to explain the mysteries. Subjectively and on a spiritual level I will add the belief in the Power in Jesus's name to the list, but as that cannot be explained to those who do not believe in spiritual things, it is invalid as a point in this debate. I don't do religion, I just believe in one God, the creator of all things,an entity powerful beyond comprehension, and strive to do the morally right thing at all times, I try to love my neighbor as myself, and I don't do to people what I don't want done to me. I am not a Muslim, and I don't fit the model of the conventional christian, I also question the bible on a logical level, But Jesus did not come to preach to us to become Christians, he came with a message of love, and reciprocity..in all things.

Logic Mind: Typical.
Your belief is based on FEAR of the unknown.
I once reasoned like you untile I widened my scope and shed my life of fear.
Have you actually considered this concept of hell? Almost anything you put in fire will burn and melt or turn to ashes or evaporate etc. Nothing lasts forever in fire.
Have you considered the concept of eternity in heaven? Try to do one thing that pleases you over and over again for a few hours, then think of doing that non-stop.

Anyway, take your Pascal's Wager to the gullible and feeble minded. Life's too short to waste thinking about a cowardly hiding god.
It is always smart to fear what you don't know, something you cant encompass, or fathom. That is how I hedge my bets. Do what works for you. At the end of the day, the intelligent and quick-minded will meet the same end that the gullible and feeble minded will meet.DEATH. It is what happens, or what doesn't happen after this that will portray who was really smart and who was the fool, and since we are not exactly sure of that logic-wise, it is advisable to hedge your interest, so that in either outcome you come out a winner.

There is a lot of wisdom in deliberate folly.

Just follow these concepts, do not confuse yourself with religious propaganda and rituals found in Christianity or contradictions in the bible.

An investment banker will always bet on God existing. what does he have to loose if he doesn't exist?....nothing. What does he have to GAIN if he DOES EXIST?.. a lot,...so an investment banker will hedge this risk....at the end of the day, he comes out a winner IF HE LIVES ACCORDING TO God's laws. Both ways our investment banker wins.

To the atheists in the house, we all know how to use our brains, we all know how to carry out logical analysis and form inferences and deductions based on established premises, what we all don't know how to do is predict what will happen tomorrow with 100% accuracy. It makes sense to protect yourself against what you cannot evaluate. What do you have to loose if You believe God exists and he doesn't? ; worst case scenario you will die permanently, decay and become an organic fertilizer for plant life. That is where it ends. Now what do you have to gain if you believe God doesn't exist..aside from a sense of your own intellectual superiority over your peers in being able to see things ''objectively''..you have nothing to gain, when you die, according to your mindset, you will die permanently and cease to exist in any form whatsoever. But what if God exists? what will you have to loose?: you will loose eternal life, eternal bliss, eternal joy.,and what will you gain? HELL. Will YOU be aware of anything if YOU die permanently?....nope.Will YOU be aware of things if the Christians turn out to be right ? yes, in hell. It is better to err on the side of safety.

We are not all certain, that is why we call it FAITH. it is better to bet on faith and die permanently if God doesn't exist, than to bet against faith and live permanently in hell if it turns out that GOD actually exists.

And that is just looking at the God question from a strictly logical point.

I will like to discuss the spiritual realities of God's power, but logicians do no believe in this and it wouldn't make sense to shine the light to a blind man.

Let us now view the God question from a philosophical angle..will it be in the best interest of man to create a God and Satan concept in order to regulate a world populated by men who are driven by bestial instincts....?..yes. even if God doesn't exist, he needs to be created...

Atheist believe my previous statement is the reason why Humans believe in a God.

Do what works for you, but always hedge your investments.
PoliticsRe: $3M Bribery: Otedola Submits Evidence To Police by alpontif(m): 11:30pm On Jun 14, 2012
The problem with Nigerians, including yours sincerely, is that we talk too much. Because of this pervasive character , we usually fail to realize certain concepts in life. Nigerians, at least most of the ones on Nairaland are not realists, and they always do their best to talk and analyze their way out of the facts of life staring them in the face. This issue is very simple.

1. It is a fact that Otedola contacted the SSS.

2. It is a fact that the SSS provided the marked notes.

3. It is a fact that farouk collected the marked notes...as verified from the presented videos.

4. It is a fact that farouk assertively demanded the balance of the bribe money...as verified from the audio records of calls initiated by farouk to Otedola.

5. It is a fact that farouk attempted to clear Zenon from the indictment list...as can be verified from the committee minutes.

6. It is a fact that Otedola initiated the corruption charges against farouk first.

Let us not be sentimental.

Let us get it into our brains that people do not become Billionaires by being dull. Billionaires are sharp ,smart, intelligent, willful people, who always have insurance and backup plans, and do not CARE how many people are crushed as long as they realize their goal. I do not want to know if this is a setup or not...I don't do conjectures. It is what the fact says that I follow. farouk took a bribe, he attempted to execute the commission, he demanded for a balance, he did not report to the police, he initiated the demand for a bribe, inconsistency was discovered in his story, he was not smart.

Otedola is not stupid. farook was the fool....Otedola was like the spider that trapped the fly in his web, any struggle to get free can only entangle farook the more.

Moral of the story: Take out the log in your own eye before you point out the peck in another's. The kettle will never permit the pot to call him black.

PS: farouk's name do not deserve being treated as a proper noun....so I will not capitalize its first alphabet.
My friend, I love placing bets but the odds on your proposed prospect is half baked. PDP has defeated itself and does not need a ACN/CPC merger to kick it out of Aso.

We are going to have the Bush/Republican syndrome of 2008 happen to us in Nigeria in 2015. . . . .anything but PDP is welcome, even a coalition of almjiri on the ballot will defeat PDP in 2015.

You are better off placing prospect on whether or not ACN/CPC merge will actually happen. That's a hot speculation than anything else on the political landscape.
Thanks for the advice, but the thread is for those who insist PDP will win the election, it is an avenue for them to actually take a step in the belief they have in their opinion, by putting their money where there mouth is.

There is a big IF before my statement on the ACN/CPC merger success, please refer to my initial post to verify, and thanks I dont want to bet on it.....if i do , its likely to be against the merger, but if they merge, then PDP is gone, at least in its present form.

Hello house,

I have observed with increasing wonder the spate at which people make empty statements and unverifiable claims that they cannot back when the chips are down. On this particular Subject, IF there is a merger between AC and CPC, I will like to make a FINANCIAL BET with any interested entity, that come 2015, The AC/CPC Merger will defeat PDP.

These are the general terms:

1. All sums bet shall be placed into an escrow account via a credible Bank that offers custodial services.

2. All bets will mature after the presidential election in 2015.

3. The parties into the speculation shall enter into binding legal contracts with a selected entity that will serve as a Bookmaker, preferably a credible Legal Chamber, or Accounting Firm.

4. The Minimum Sum that can be placed on bet shall be 100 Thousand Naira only.

Any Other amendment, addition, and suggestion is welcome.

Put your money where your mouth is.

jason123: Bro, I am not an architect or structural engineer but I clearly see what you were talking about it. Lagos is a coastal state and the vibration from the trains can cause "liquefaction" (where the sand compresses to the bottom) and that can cause an uneven distribution of weight.

You make sense guy!
I don't see the sense in what the guy was writing, even a pupil engineer knows all about these things that you just googled up, it is very elementary. have you heard about ''sinking support''...? do you know anything about differential settlement, or piling...? and do you know how engineers are trained to design to mitigate geologically and socially induced complications....?..No. You are not an engineer, stop all these armchair critiquing.
PoliticsRe: Orile Light Rail Station Complete (pictures) by alpontif(m): 6:47pm On Jun 05, 2012
Arosa: Lol,

Did your structural analysis, take into account the porous nature of Lagos soil, the constant vibration the building will be subjected to because of the daily train traffic and the fact that thousands of people will be going in and out of that building daily?
This is what happens when every tom ,dick and harry believes he can just sit in his armchair and pass judgement on stuff that took many people years to study and understand. To the uninitiated, it is very easy to construct, an engineer knows better. Where you will even know that Arosa got it all wrong was his belief, by referring to his architect sister, that architects are responsible for the structural design of a structure. It is possible to be literate, and yet uneducated. Arosa, unfortunately falls into this class. Instead of asking foolish questions or writing idiotic statements that seek to attract unmerited stain to proffesionals, why not ask to be educated on the issue. You are not a specialist, construction is a specialist job, you don't wake up one day to become a civil or structural engineer, you actually have to study hard, work your ass off and be intelligent enough to graduate as one.

Let me now educate Arosa, like the structural engineer stated, ARCHITECTS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OR CERTIFIED TO CARRY OUT STRUCTURAL DESIGN.Their job is limited to the aesthetical conceptualization and design of a building, it becomes the responsibility of the engineer to structurally design the building, not minding how crazy the concept is, to make its construction possible.

Secondly, Civil and Structural Engineers, consider everything before they design, starting from the geotechnical and geophysical investigations of the area to be built upon, to the most remote environmental possibilities possible, that is why we have dead loads, live loads, loads due to vibration(eg earthquakes). it is your geological study and other related social and environmental investigations that will determine how you go about your design. They have factors of safety, they have checklists, some crazy ones that you cant even imagine, they factor in everything, they have codes, The BS CODE,ASCE CODE, IBC...so it shows how ignorant you are about the construction industry to suggest that they might not consider the geology of the area, or design to mitigate the adverse implications of the geology or environment, people that studied the principle of harmonics in secondary school physics, and the implications of forced vibration do not need to question whether they have factored in those points in the design of a vibration producing, live load induced heavy duty public utility, You dont talk where doctors are gisting, if you are not a doctor, but you can ask questions that do not aim to tarnish the image of the domain experts. Construction technologies is not like banking, or any course in the social sciences, where you just wake up one day and become an expert just by reading a few journals, or magazines, Arosa, stop making a fool of yourself, next time look before you leap.

Also, know that anything can be structurally designed to be stable, no matter how unbalanced it is to the untrained eye, once you get the analysis right, and you model correctly, your design will be straightforward.
