Nairaland General › Re: Happy 18th Anniversary Nairaland by AmuRubber(m): 4:21pm On Apr 10, 2023 |
Gerrard59: I have been here since 2011. I enjoyed the political debates leading up to the 2011 elections and decided to register. Also, it had and still has relevant information from a Nigerian perspective.
Notable feats between Nairaland and myself:
- Got by first job from here (hired by a Nairalander), - Got tips on how to attain a first class, which I didn't attain sef. - Got invaluable tips on self development. Frequent commentary on Nairaland aided my writing skills immensely. I recalled commenting almost every single day. - Got to know my UTME aka JAMB result on Nairaland. - Got the relevant information I used to japa - Got paired with good folks who have remained buddies till date. - and many more too numerous to mention.
Regarding tribal posts, that is APC's fault. Leading up to the 2015 elections, APC went the tribal way. She sponsored propagandists to smear Igbos and other ethnic minorities, most of whom supported Jonathan. In return, they had to retaliate which led to Nairaland being very tribal. Even those in the diaspora were at the forefront. One named Dayokanu now Ramduetter whatever or Eko Ile. Seun could not do anything because the bigwigs in the APC were/are Yorubas, and as a Yoruba lad, that would be an affront on his leaders. So he overlooked. What he did was appointing mods from the two ethnic groups, who then push posts smearing the other ethnic group to the front page.
Additionally, he was threatened by islamists to reduce what they called "anti-Islam" posts on Nairaland. What they didn't say was that "anti-Islam" posts became rife because of the atrocities by Boko Haram. It's why the Islam section has a pre-warning before you comment. Unfortunately, he didn't replicate the same for Christians since he's an atheist. Funny enough, his father is a pastor (owner of Ambassadors College in Ogun aka Cowbellpedia Mathematics regulars).
Recently, he has been bromancing with El-Rufai. Just like his buddy Mark Essien (Seun once invited Mark for AMA session years back). An example is how the posts smearing David Hundeyin graced the front page but David's rebuttal wasn't. El-Rufai and David are sworn enemies. So we might begin to see less posts about the slaughtering of Christians in Northern Nigeria. Who knows? 🤷🏿♂️
In summary, Nairaland will still remain Nigeria's most visited forum or social media website owned by a Nigerian by any measure because there is no competitor that comes close. The website contains invaluable information from a Nigerian perspective. That is her selling and strongest point.
Seun is like the founder of Craigslist. Craigslist was founded before Shopify or few years after Amazon, yet the owner and present CEO (who was an early member) have remained very private. The website is still very bland but easy to navigate. That has been Nairaland's strength, at least during the 2000s - 2015 when less sophisticated phones were prevalent. Maybe in the next few years when those Symbian phones stop reigning or aren't prevalent, more features will be introduced. But then, it's the founder's nature. |
TV/Movies › Re: 'Gangs Of Lagos' Movie Review by AmuRubber(m): 12:25am On Apr 09, 2023 |
CaveAdullam: The movie, as well with others like King Of Boys, follow in line in capturing the ugly nature of Lagos state politics and Nigeria at large.
More movies like this will help people become more cognizant of what's going on in their community and nation, and proffer effective ways for change.
As with Nollywood, some scenes were predictable, e.g when Gift shot Kazeem at the end. Nollywood like their counterpart, Hollywood, giving masculine role to the feminine always make movies less interesting. Watching Gift (Adesua Etomi) fight hardened and tough criminals made the movie had tinctures of caricature. Let men do their thing; ditto for women.
Lessons learnt:
1. Crime is an unending loop once there are myriads of benefits attached.
2. Revenge is a cycle. Only pure justice can stop it.
3. Politicians are only loyal to their bellies and pockets. No matter how loyal you're to them, they'll use you as a pawn to leverage, either to gain more or escape danger.
4. True love never dies. It can be separated, but it keeps burning.
5. Don't taste crime. Once you do, you enter into an interminable tunnel of brief joy and long sorrows.
6. Don't be a pawn on the chessboard of politicians. Deal with them from afar and with wisdom.
7. Being a good parent matters a lot. You must re-evaluate all your plans once you become a parent. It's your duty to protect your community by raising good children.
8. No true friends in gangs of criminals. Two thieves are not best of friends but worst enemies. Their proclamation of love is mere pretence.
9. Deal with trouble at the root stage. Because it becomes impossible when it germinate and grow tall.
10. We must put the community above the self. Only then bribery and corruption can be curbed to the lowest.
Gangs of Lagos is a good movie. Go watch it.
Thanks. |

falcon01: innovation? From a device that Lacks basic Functionality? How do you play music on iPhone? You need VLC player or Play it Using Xender. You have to pay to use the default music player. You cant share files, you cant modify the UI you are stuck with one ugly Interface, you can't use The ringtone you like on Iphone, you need to buy from the store, you there are hundred if features iphone don't have this guys are ripping you. iPhone wasn't the first ro remove the headphone jack Oppo was the first. The mocking has been going on for long between Iphone and Samsung and other phone brand. IPhone has never been innovative they copy features from Other brand and make it seem as if they started it, even the finger print that was seemingly done first by Iphone in the iPhone 5s was already done by Motorola and the wireless Charging was done first by Samsung. Apple ain't got shit! |
Phones › Re: Galaxy S21 Ultra Is Making Me Go Crazy!!! by AmuRubber(m): 3:14am On Apr 06, 2023 |
Unbiased1: iPhone is only oga in pumping out high Geekbench scores and sending up to 6 years OS and Security updates, other than those, iPhone is never and can never be an OGA over Samsung.
On normal usage, iPhone and other flagship Android devices perform in a similar manner, even Samsung phones open apps at similar speed with the iPhone 13 Pro Max despite the iPhone having a processor that has better performance.
The Samsung S21's screen has better colour accuracy than that of any iPhone ever created and it has a better resolution at 1440p and and much higher pixel density.
The internet speed of the Samsung S21 ultra is higher than that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, you can confirm that yourself by checking the upload and download speeds of both devices using the same network provider.
The Samsung devices with the Snapdragon processor provide similar camera performance and the Samsung 22 Ultra can be considered as a better camera device than the iPhone. It shoots better portraits than the iPhone 13 Pro Max in both daylight and low light conditions, the selfie pictures are sharper than what you get from the iPhone, the Samsung handles exposure better especially in highly bright environment where iPhone has always failed to perform or do you want to compare both phones in a Zoom test? Samsung will destroy iPhone in any zoom test. You can check out comparisons on YouTube to see for yourself. The Samsung S21 and S22 can shoot a clear and visible shot of the moon at night and handle the light coming from the moon perfectly. No iPhone ever created can see the moon clearly. What of low light? The iPhone still struggles to put up a good fight. iPhone only takes better videos than other phones which is a title they are definitely going lose this year. The newly launched Pixel 6a, even when shooting at 1080p, managed to capture the clouds and provide better colour accuracy than the 4k video of the iPhone 13 Pro Max on a sunny day. I would have posted the link to the camera comparison here if only Nairaland's bot would not delete this post.
Lets us talk about build quality. Anybody who says the iPhone has a better build quality than the Samsung is just deceiving himself/herself. The conditions that will destroy the screen of the Samsung will also destroy that of the iPhone. The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the Samsung S21 and S22 is comparable to the ceramic back on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The only reason why the Samsung's front glass tends to have longer cracks when dropped from the same height with the iPhone is because of the stylish curved Amoled screen on the Samsung which means a larger surface area of the screen will make contact with ground when the Samsung is dropped from a reasonable height compared to the flat screen on the iPhone that is fully protected by the iPhone's frame.
Lets talk about RAM management. Due to how iSO is designed to be highly optimised to run with the bionic processor in the iPhone as well as the highly optimised apps that are created for iOS, iPhone devices tend to require less RAM to store as much information as a similar Android device but Android phone companies have fully compensated for that by providing much higher RAM that is why you see Samsung phones coming with up to 12GB RAM and even ASUS coming with 16gb RAM. As we speak, the iPhone 13 Pro Max does not have better RAM management than the Google Pixel 6 Pro talkless of the Samsung S22 Ultra that has a higher RAM than the Pixel.
What of battery charging speed? Android devices, especially those from Xiaomi, Realme and Oppo can charge from 0 to 100% in just 30 mins or less compared to the nonsense we still get from iPhone that takes over 1 hour 30 min to fully charge. I can simply place my earbud on my Android phone and my phone will use reverse wireless charging to recharge my earbud. I can even get up to 15 watts reverse wireless charge with an Android device.
Lets even talk about random things like Screen refresh rate where I get 120hz refresh rate even with some Midrange Android devices like Xiaomi's Redmi devices when iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini still have 60hz. The lightning port that iPhones used to come with are now being rejected across the world as all smartphone companies are expected to use USB type C. Lets say I'm a camera freak, do you think I would pick an iPhone 13 Pro Max of over 1000 dollars when there is a Google Pixel 6a of less than 500 dollars that has similar camera quality despite having a lower hardware? The iPhone 13 Pro Max could not even produce better skin colour than the midrange Google Pixel 6a and you dare say Apple makes better phones than Android companies? Look at the nonsense iPhone SE they have been launching that does not even have night sight technology integrated into its camera app. |

Millennium Development Goal by the UN was a marker for development and it started as far back when your Asiwaju was Governor. After many years, only Obi attained all and was certified by UN as the first governor in Nigeria to attain the set out goals.
If not introducing the Agbero system into Anambra by Obi makes him a Medicore, then it's fine by me. Because that's the only achievement of Asiwaju.
What your Asiwaju couldn't do in 8 years, happened in 3 years under Sanwo Olu without noise or claiming to own Lagos.

Raph82: My brother, thank you for your concern and contribution, that bag does not look like it's not washed, we know how a bag of cement that's not washed will look like. Talking about planting in sack bags, I don't think it's having the kind of dangerous picture you painted when it comes to using it to plant. I understand we don't have quality control measures here, but they do in America, and they permit the use of sack bags for planting. All the vertical farming and soilless farming being practised in advanced countries, they use plastics in planting, plant roots extract the needed nutrients from the nutrient solution contained in a plastic, this one appears to be more dangerous to me than sack farming, yet it is certified safe. In sack farming, there is soil medium around the plant, the sack is not even touching the plant. At times when you are tilling the soil, you'll come across many buried nylons, polythene bags, plastics and so on, yet we plant in the ground and eat the crops that come out of it, Sack farming was approved by FAO itself, you can check it out. |
Agriculture › Re: My Yam Farm In Cement Bags (Pictures) by AmuRubber(m): 10:26pm On Feb 10, 2023 |
Raph82: If he plants on the ground, the land will be tilled, and the number of stands that little space will contain will not be worth the energy and time put into this. Sack farming has its advantages. - No competition among plants for soil nutrients, water, light etc. Each plant has its own space to thrive. - It is easier to control weed and carry out other management practices such as mulching, manure or fertilizer application and so on in sack farming than planting on bare ground - There's no limitation to farming with this method, as it is possible to farm even in urban centers, on concrete floor space and so on. You can't till the concrete floor of your compound to plant yam, but with sack farming, you are good to go. - With sack farming within your neighbourhood, there's no fear of attack either by herdsmen or bandits, at this time that everyone is scared to go out into the bush to farm, this is your best bet. |

AbujaCitiBlog: You are cursed! I mean it. You are cursed. It will never be well with you and your family for supporting an evil man to lead Nigeria just because of ethnicity. You are evil. Pure and simple.
For starters.
1. Tinubu is from Osun State, Iragbiji to be precise, he migrated from Osun State to Lagos also in search of economic boom.
2. Lagos State has been the economic capital of Nigeria, long before Tinubu dreamt of becoming Governor. So, people started trooping to Lagos long before Tinubu was Born.
3. Other Nigerians from across the whole Nigeria dwell in Lagos not only Igbos or Anambrarians.
4. Lagos has the biggest, the most viable and the only active seaports in Nigeria. Again Igbos control 60-66% of Importation in Nigeria, so it is expected that they will move close to the base of their business operations which is Lagos and it has absolutely nothing to do with Jagaban of criminals!
5. Even Tinubu with all his so called achievements abandoned Lagos to go for medical treatment in France and UK. One would have thought that with all his acclaimed achievements in Lagos he would have been taking treatment in the Lagos Hospitals he upgraded!
6. Just like Lagos, Abuja also boasts of a teeming Igbo population due to the propensity to do business known to be the bedrock of Igbo economy. Infact it was the midget Nasir ElRufai who exclaimed that 70% of landed documents in Abuja had Igbo names on them! That's tells you the number of Igbos resident in Abuja. So, it is not only Lagos, Igbo dwell in other Nigerian cities too.
7. Finally, if we want to trade places with the cursed idiot that asked this stupid questions, Yorubas dwell in Anambra State too, so if Tinubu did so well in Lagos, why are there Yorubas in Anambra?
Please let's stop promoting idiots and idiocy in our platforms. Thanks You've said it all, comrade. |

With 50k out of that cash, your utility bills are likely covered and you can save as much as 40% at the end of the day. 3. You don't face traffic in Nassarawa and you get home on time unlike Lagos depending on where you would reside 4. I have lived in both states and I can categorically tell you the life expectancy in Nassarawa is 75 yrs while Lagos is 55yrs 5. House rent is relatively cheap in Keffi unlike a self contain in Lekki is about 500k without damages, agent, commission and agreement
Meanwhile in Lagos, 1. Transportation can gulp 50k off the pay monthly, even if you stay in Ajah or Sangotedo 2. Accommodation can gulp a big chunk even when the house is not a match compared to what you will get outside Lagos with equivalent sum or less. 3. Plus the population is increasing with Imota rice mill, Dangote refinery and Lekki deep seaport in the Lekki express way, the madness of traffic will increase and I am sure you haven't experienced Lagos traffic (ask those that were on the island today that President Buhari visited how the traffic was today - most of them are probably reading this and will be up and running tomorrow morning by 5:00am on third mainland bridge for those on the mainland Finally, you already don't know how frustrating Lagos traffic can be plus your life expectancy will be reduced If you stay in Lag for 50 years, you would have spent 15 years in traffic.
