Abagworo: Agbotaen is right and its not applicable to Igbo alone. That Igbo identity was more of an identification gotten outside by slaves as a result of language similarities and later brought home. There is no doubt that the word Igbo existed but the concept is yet to be absolutely ascertained. If you visit the Carribean thread you'll see where slaves listed their ethnic groups and notice that Etche, Isuikwuato, Isuama, Abala, Oratta, Ugiri, Omuma and a lot of what we consider today as merely Igbo towns or clans considered themselves distinct. They listed their villages and clans but not ethnicities. |
Can't you guys see that only fools pay attention to Osuji. His fellow fools are here defending him. Fools like osuji are so many here. |
@topic, as you know, Dr Osuji is a mad man and no one ever takes him serious. On ageing writers are generally expected to write autobiographies that sum up their writing carrers. The shameless maggot called Ozodi should know that there is nothing wrong in one publishing his memoirs at whatever age. Ozodi the ape was in the war, and has not yet published his own memoirs. What a hypocrite. On Achebe been a historian, Prof Achebe did not take that credit and has never done so. You do not need to be a trained historian to publish a book of notes you jotted down during a war. Most people who have written about the war were not historians e.g Madiebo, Obasanjo, Amadi etc. On verification. Achebe's facts are verifiabe as he used footnotes and at the end of the book, listed all his references. It seems the Chimpazee called Osuji read the book turned upside down. Ozodi's attempt at history is flawed as always, he claimed that Achebe was born around the time the British were penetrating AlaIgbo. Wrong, for more than 40 years before Achebe's birth, The British have penetrated Alaigbo through companies, protectorate and later formal colonialism. Ozodi, should go into history as it's not his field. Contrary to Osuji's article, Prof Achebe did not see the actions of Igbo people right and others wrong. Prof Achebe on many ocassions condenmed the actions of his own people. Prof Achebe even cited Uwechue's reasons for resignation as an envoy and supportd his claims. Am sure Ozodi did not see that page. On Ministry of information, Achebe left the ministry long ago to serve as an envoy, as a result was not i nvolved in any Biafran propaganda. On writers formulating policies for Ojukwu. Ozodi was wrong, Ojukwu wanted a philosophy in line with Nyerere's Arusha declaration, so he gathered intellectuals in Biafra to formulate that policy which later became Ahiara declaration. Surely, Ozodi hasn't read the Ahiara declaration document. On recruitment into the Biafran army, Prof Achebe was not responsible for that. Most people recruited to join the Biafran army were from 18 years and above. Those who were sent to the war front were from18 years and above. The young Biafrans who were less than 18 were not involved in the war. Ozodimgba the ape couldn't have joined the army at 14 and fought in the war. Surely, he is false about his age. On corrution, Achebe did not single the Igbo people as less corrupt from others. He even saw an Hausa man as less corrupt than his own southern Nigerian people. So he joined Aminu Kano's party for this reason and others. Ozodi should have querried the Indian defeat in the hands of Britain. India with a population almost twice of Africa were defeated by the Brits and compared to the Igbo defeat by the Brits. On the Igbo, Yoruba etc, Prof Achebe at no time said Igbo students or civil servants did better than others. Achebe studied at U.I, and has praises for non Igbo people who excelled in U.I. Prof Achebe does not hate Yorubas and throught his memoirs poured encomiums on Yorubas such as Soyinka, Amos Tutuola, Hubert Ogunde etc. What is Osuji insunuating?. As usual, people will always poopoo on Osuji's article. Shameless man. |
On Anambra communities tracing their roots to Anioma, the person who wrote that crap needs to be beheaded. The only people that trace their roots across the Niger is Onitsha. Yet not the entire Onitsha people trace their roots from Onitsha. Only the lineages that produce the Obis, while the lineages that produce the Ichies trace their roots from Nri. What ever the case may be, the current Obi-Igwe Achebe believes that at first they were of Nri stock, crossed over the Niger and later came back when their was tumoil in the land. A similar thing has been happening in Nigeria where Ndigbo have been fleeing hostile areas during conflicts. |
afam4eva: How will that save them on sunday from being bamboozled by Liverpool. One nice thing about you is that you have been bringing goodluck to Chelsea. Whenever you say Chelsea will lose, they go on to win. Now you have prepeated the same thing, am now hoping for a 4:1 victory in favour of Chelsea. |
The splitting up of Anambra state into Anambra and Enugu states wasn't a surprise to anybody. The division was there for long and nearly brought a crisis in the state. The Wawas were pushing for a Wawa state in 1987, in a great shock to the nation, IBB created Akwa Ibom state for the south and Katsina for the north. So in 1991, no one woke up being surprised that Enugu state was created. On the Obiship, not only in Anioma, do you have Obis. There are some Obis in Oguta and Ogba areas of Rivers state. On Onitsha, they have never at anytime wanted to quit Anambra state and merged with Anioma. At a time, some of them wanted Orimiri state for those areas on the eastern bank of the Niger e.g, Onitsha, Ogbaru and Ndoni areas. But that arrangement was dead on arrival and no one has ever spoken about it What some Ohanaeze chietains want is the south east to have the same number of states with other geo-political zones and as a consequence wants Anioma created and joined to the south east. But the Asagba of Asaba-Prof Edozien is of a different opinion. He wants regionalism and that the entire south east and Igbo speaking areas of Delta and Rivers state to be merged into one region. |
ocelot2006: 'though not Igbo, but for once I totally agree with the Igbos here calling for the impeachment of Ogugua88. Why? 'cos these illiterate igbo billy-goats can't handle such a beautiful and very intelligent young woman. And I must say that she's the very first elected igbo leader (well, on nairaland) who's a true realist, a straight shooter, and a Nigerian who will rather put her nation Nigeria first, the very same qualities our nation desperately need in our leaders, and not some demented biafran supporter living in la-la land. These fools clearly don't deserve her, and it's definitely not a suprise the SE is in it's current state. Why the insults? Did Ogugua insult any one in her post. Why not behave like her or are you pretending?. |
shymexx: Where's the correlation between Bakassi and Lagos? - Bakassi was an unoccupied before certain fishermen moved in to occupy the place... Lagos is a different matter entirely...So why hasn't the Arabs in Israel revoked the lands the Jews bought from them after the creation of Zionism around 1917 or thereabout?. |
ndu_chucks: Good speech. As you can see, he reserved some spaces which he will surely come back to fill as he promised. |
Eze Onlytruth, Onye nwe anyi nonyere gi. Thanks for the wondrous speech. You have really done well as the first Eze of this noble forum. Your ideas were really appreciated as well as your innovations. Its a pity I did not play a major role in the cabinet, but as you know I was handling some projects in my native state for Owelle. As a result, time was never my friend then. You still have about 7 weeks to relinquish power and I feel some of the good jobs you started will be completed by then. As it is now, we need your expertise on some of the issues tearing UmuIgbo apart on line and in this forum. There is no better person to resolve the conflict at hand now e.g Those for Ogugua and those against her. On the issue of Osu, we should target religious leaders in Igboland for a partnership oh how to abolish this obnoxious stigma. More to come later. |
bamac: i was in a bank at ijebu-ode when the argument started whether or not to create ijebu state. Later it developed to the argument of who speaks yoruba between ijebu and oyo, i was shocked when sentiment came to the party, the ijebu's in the bank said they speak the real yoruba while the few oyo's in the bank claimed to be the real yoruba speaker. Please i want nairalanders to give a say about this argument. What is called Yoruba people or Yoruba language is Oyo. The Ijebus according to the Awujale are not Yorubas and came from a different route from the Yorubas e.g Sudan. The Awujale also said that the Ijebu people should look forward to a cooperation between them and Itsekiris. The ancient Ijebus did not speak Yoruba but a language similar to what the Itsekiris speak today. The Awujale having gone through the chronicles of his ancestors on the Ijebu throne noted that they did not even bear Yoruba names then. To know more about the wonderful people of Ijebuland, visit the Awujale or search for his recent speeches. |
shymexx: Male chauvinistic pigs + uneducated bigoted dolts = Biafran keyboard warriors!Totally irrelevant to the thread. |
FreeGlobe: what a fool. measuring by your iq, my mom probably has a greater iq than everybody in your village combine. I can tell from your gutter language that you are from the gutter, go and clean up yourself piggy, get some class, sense and education before coming to a public forum to discuss with people above your bracket. shouldnt you be in the market gossiping and peeling egusi by now. go find your mates and take the ogugua with you. once again stfu dumbass!Freeglobe nwannem, biko jiri nwayo. Akwa ima na ndi Odida anyanwu juputa ebea na achi anyi ochi. Biko, kwanyere ndi nke anyi ugwu. Wepu ikpo iyi na akparia juru ebea. Chukwu gozie gi. |
Shaktar Donesk, Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea. |
ItGeek: Thank God we won, Salient points from the match.Man United caused us more morries against our left full back than Donesk did to our left full back. In the past, we use to have a Malouda type of player in front of the left full back. He shields and protects the full back. But at Chelsea, they do not want that, even when Bertrand plays in that role, fans are not happy. |
Tony Spike: This isn't confusion, dude. Actually, more evidences are springing up to challenge the older known theories which are at most mainly symbolic. This is called research, it is allowed as long as it is within the ambit of the relevant available evidences. For example, Dierk Langes's recent research in 2011 showed that the Oyo chronological list of kingship from oral evidence is consistent with the successive list of kingship from Hebrew, Babylonian and Assyrian kingship eras. This is an evidence telling us something, and if we take his research from where it stopped, we'll get to understand more about the Yoruba ancient origin.Let the researchers use loudspeakers and drum it into the ears of Yorubas in all the market places of Odualand. |
Antivirus92: spits on your comment! Wonder the type of spirit that controls you! Two-edged sword! Seeking favour!Ji Nwayo nwannem |
texazzpete: You tribalistic scum are so PETTY, I swear.Nice one from you Mr Texaz, but you could have done that without insults. Thats a bad attitude. |
advocate666: Andre Uweh, please tell me. Do you support her statement?I would love to have a chat with her but the Nairaland message system isn't functioning to perfection. I think Onlytruth will manage that whenever he is available. Onlytruth's administration employed every Igbo to hand in his or her email adresses, with that am sure the Eze and cabinet can easily reach out to her. The girl at the helm of affairs in ICSN had doubts from members as she was the first Igbo woman born outside Igboland occupying that seat. There were the usual initial mistakes, but as time progressed, the Mbano girl of Mbano parentage has done so well even better than us. Once again, Ndigbo, onye egbule achara mgbe ona eto ogologo. |
coogar: you lots are pathetic.....LOL. |
Falcao is out of the equation as Athletico will not sell. They now want to give him more contracts and increase his wage. He is happy with that. option=use DS lots more. |
CHESSBOARD: Pls can the EZE 1 of Nairaland say something already or is he indisposed, his lolo can not say something that has turn the palace into confusion and he is quiet.Nice one from you. You might as well take the case to him. It is what we set out to achieve last year. |
advocate666: You speak like a wise one Andre Uweh. In your wisdom you know thus that we cannot have as our leader someone who does not understand the politics of Igboland. We are not throwing Ogugua away. She is our daughter. We are proud of her achievements but her utterances you must admit are not what is expected of one who is to occupy a post as elevated as that of Ezenwanyi of Igboland.Thank you my brother. I have always believed that she will learn and I believe she is a fast learner. We should be there to support her to the fullest. Let us give her a chance. In the U.K, there is an Igbo Youth organisation called ICSN. The leader of this organisation is a young girl just like Ogugua. She was born and raised in the U.K and until she assumed this lofty position did not know much about her own people. But she is learning at work and has used her influence to attract a lot of Igbo interests amongs young boys and girls born in the U.K. During our days as leaders of the organisation, we hardly recorded up 100 people attending our monthly meetings but now you have more than 150 people in attendance every meeting. The last Iri ji festival also saw more than 1,500 in attendance. Our Igbo language school has increased as well as the number of people joining our Igbo dance troop. Based on this example, let Ogugua be for now, there is future. |
lagerwhenindoubt: I am not Ndigbo but i suspect this move is designed to position a pro-GEJ Ezenwanyo ahead of 2015 elections where e-contributions may as well carve an outcome in the minds of votersNooops, it is about promoting our rich culture and heritage. With her coming to power, she will you her position to increase Igbo pride and awareness to her contemporaries outside Igboland who have no clues about Igboland and people. She is young and she will learn. |
redsun: I wasnt following.I dont just see myself in being in any group here, because everybody seems to differently with some kind of divergent solutions that in most cases lacks fundamental foundations, and that is accountability.Alright, I understand, only last month Ndigbo in nairaland nominated and elected her as our number one Igbo female citizen for one year. She wasn't nominated nor voted as the topmost Igbo lady in nairaland, but because, she is for the future. Most people who nominated and voted her gave this as their reasons. That thread is still there. There is a lot she has to learn from today to take to the future, so please let us support her. There are lots of them born outside Igboland or raised outside Igboland who hardly identify as Igbo. She is a proud Igbo, she is one of us and we should support her. We are all learning. |
chosen04: (1) What exactly is your thing?Nwada di nma, biko wetuo obi, iwe gi adila oku. Iwe nwanne adighi eru na obara. Let us not assume there is no tommorrow, if one makes a blunder today does not mean that person will make the same blunder in the future. Let us not condemn our own people. Ndi Odida-anyanwu are here laughing at us. Let us take this matter out of here to the plalace of the eze. Udo diri gi. |
redsun: Who elected her?And for what? What is her line of thoughts?Did you miss the elections?. Incase you missed the elections, she won the polls. My dear life is a learning process, the way one thinks today will be different from the way one will think in the future, please I employ everyone to let her be. |
Ndigbo, uwa dikwara unu mmaoooh!. As you know Ndigbo do not throw away a kid a dirty water together, aru. The most important thing is to understand that you are Igbo and be a proud Igbo. In this case Miss Ogugua88 has shown to the world that she is Igbo and a proud one. Having said that, not every Igbo outside Igboland understands the politics of Igboland. It is not diffiult to confuse Igbo agenda with Nigerian agenda. If we feel one of our sons and daughters is going in the wrong direction, we should not make a mockery of it but kindly inbox her to understand it or go through our Eze. Most of us here do have relatives born abroad or residing oversees and they will even make more blunders than the accused here. A lot of them do not even know where Igboland is situated. We should use this forum to educate our younger ones about our Igbo nation as opposed to hitting a heavy hammer on them. A lot of Igbo people are here to learn and they should be encouraged and not discouraged. Thank God, we have an Eze in nairaland, if one is aggrieved should turn his her case to our Eze-Onlytruth, he reigns till Jan 2, 2013. Ndigbo, mmiri atala, azu anwuna. Biri kwanuoo. |
odumchi: I would say that Yoruba is the most "accessible" Nigerian language in the sense that it's relatively easier to get your hands on its learning materials as compared to those of their languages.I strongly believe that the same way one can lay his hands on Yoruba language materials so also can one easily access Igbo. With the formation of SOCIETY FOR THE PROMOTION OF IGBO LANGUAGE AND CULTURE (SPILAC) materials on Igbo language about everywhere. Recently, the two foremost institutions in England Oxfor University and Cambridge has added the Igbo language as one of their courses. If materials are not as accessible as yoruba, surely they will not do that. About the Hausa, am not too sure to comment as I do not grow up there nor come from there. |
ODUA_NEGRO: Andre,The Hausa/Kanuri example is the tracing of their ancestry from the Mid east. Oduduwa-a conquerer from unknown destination, some say Arab, some say from the Heaven while recently they trace his roots from a place called Benin now. While Yoruba as a people occupy modern day South west Nigeria, some parts of Kwara state and a tiny bit of south east Benin Republic. The confusion about Yoruba origin is rising day by day. It has to stop and as a result, historians should stop looking outside the south west as the source of Yoruba origin. |
Regarding Port Harcourt, some parts belong to Okrika people while a grater part belong to the Ikwerre Igbo speaking people. Most people who built Port Harcour today are the hinterland Igbo and till date, what Port Harcourt is today can be largely attributed to them. |

Secondly, you need to go and execise your authority on the thread where Igbo people are being disgraced with the call for Ogugua's impeachment.
clever eh
