If the auto-loader in a T72 breaks you cant fix it in anycase - Soviets seperate powder and warhead, and in the T72 the powder is unaccesable. manual over-ride is only on the T62 and then ROF drops down to 1 round per min.

If they had moved the engine to the front and the crew to the back it would have been better yes.

I like it simply because its an excellent upgrade and it increases crew-survivability due to the fact that they are now seperated from the turret and ammunition, meaning that if it "pops its cork" like T72 so often do there is atleast a chance of crew survival.
The auto loader breaking is least of your issues and highly unlikely on the more modern models. But if it does you can load manually, Problem is if it jams you cant un jam it.

Or just moved the crew back in to under the turret.

So many better ways they could of done that, like making a larger turret and installing armoured lockers with blow off panels, the crew will all so now take the hit from any penetration. All so it does not have any extra armour. No wonder it was never built.

Not sure if I have posted this before or not.

But pic related is the only T-72 worth even considering buying.

T-72 "T-rex", a Ukranian prototype.
No

Unmanned turret with a auto loader. No way to clear a jam, MGs cant be reloaded, crew all next to each other right in front. I don't like it.

Nigeria forgot about super tucano since 2014 why are they bringing iup the issue now?

Why didn't they consider scorpion light attack jet.

Americans can never be a friend.
Probably because they where not forgotten about. Sales take time.

Cost, cost to run, logistics and proven over unproven.

There is no official confirmation stating we are getting A-29s. American hubris isn't fact. The only official order is for a squadroun (24) Super Mushak trainers to replace the Diamond trainer as the NAF's primary trainer.
Well the usa have not yet approved the sale.

@ this point in the anti terror effort with the success already recorded and with Nigeria knowing the fact that the US is seeking for glory credits by selling its equipment to Nigeria, then I think it would be fool hardy to just settle for Tucanos. If the US is not ready to sell us A10 Wathogs then let them forget it. Nigeria will not continue dropping bombs in its territory forever what happens when we are done with Boko Haram will the Tucanos be used as trainers. Super Tucanos? Nonsense.I was in a class on intel management the other day and the good professor talked about the day a submarine showed up in Lagos how the guys in the Nigerian defense head quarters were almost peeing their pants because they knew nothing about its presence in Nigerian waters. Up until this moment nothing have been done about it. But I know that we may buy super Tucanos at the closing phase of a war that we fought the hardest parts with obsolete airframes with much success because there are those who must benefit from each spurious arms deal, those who do not know if there is a national interest to care about. If we need super Tucanos why not buy new ones from Embraer Brasil directly?
Why do you want the A10. The supper Tucano will ne just has deadly vs BH cost less to fly, requier less ground support in time, man power and resources, have a faster turn around and generally be more cost effective. You fighting coin warfare not trying to defend the west against a hord of soviet tanks. The Tucano was built for the type of war you fighting.

Well only 1 sub Saharan African country could respond to a sub. So dont it not a big deal you cant stop one. Since no one in your sphere oprats submarines.

You may be getting the same deal Afghanistan got. They got 20 Supper Tucano's spare parts and training from America.

The South African Air Force (SAAF) will receive two Gripen support vehicles with trailers under a contract being executed by Denel and Desert Wolf.

Although the project started in 2004, Denel only received the go-ahead to proceed last year and contacted Desert Wolf to come on board. The contract involves two Sprinter 519 vehicles and two trailers.

The package also includes a dome tent and trailer than can sleep four people. Two generators will supply power.

Hennie Kieser, Managing Director of Desert Wolf Consulting, said Desert Wolf received the order from Denel at the end of last year for developing the Complete Data Pack for the Gripen Support Vehicle and Support Trailer system (M-TIES). “The PBL Data Pack has now been completed and the next step will be the final design and manufacturing of two complete systems,” Kieser told defenceWeb.

Two Mercedes Sprinter vehicles have been procured by Denel and modification work on these will start shortly. Desert wolf will be installing various systems in these vehicles and will also supply two large LEO Wide body trailers. One Sprinter with one Desert Wolf LEO will be a comprehensive and complete Gripen support system, supporting the South African Air Force’s 26 Gripen fighter jets on deployments.

Kieser also told defenceWeb that Desert Wolf has received an export order for two fully equipped Desert Wolf Emergency Rescue Trailers, which will be shipped to Zambia in the next two months.

One of the most impressive part of the gripen is just how small the ground support is needed to keep one ready.

No op sec is inforced in SA. I know of a case of a phone call made from a ship on deployment to catch poachers and ileagel fisherman. Next day there was a signal inquiring about it.

For the most part the sandf dont care about a face book pic or some pic at a parade ground. But a pics of ops arenot allowed. At least not with out permision. Some things are down right ileagel to report on. SANDF counter intel both at the branch level and defence intelligence is pretty good.

http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/the-marines-corps-ch-53e-sea-stallion-fleet-is-in-inexc-1761340070

Seems the us marines has a lower operational avalabltie than many African countries. There CH53E pilots only get 30 hours of flight in 6 months, in a operational area. SAAf rooivalks get 40 hours a month and gripens about 15 hours a month 3 times the flight hours.

Bit off topic but interesting.

Evidence has been posted, Andrewza, your navy sailor also confirms project biro is an apartheid era project.

Search the archives

Project biro which doesn't even exist seeks to replace 3 IPVs.

We know half your fleet is supposed to be replaced,

In essence 3 vessels represents South-Africa's navy fleet.

LMFAO

This is beyond pathetic!
To be fare some projects never end

Project BIRO was for both IPVs. MCM and OPVs. It seems like it wont replace any thing though in stead it will augment current fleet. The strike crafts still got live in them.

LOL....... That's the most amusing part. Inconsistency in their figures. Even in this thread, Patrick says 400, while Jln115 goes for double or nothing 800. I remember Andrewza did say up to 1500.

The lies are just ridiculous.
Up to 1500. And yes numbers changed there was no medical care in CAR. 2 weeks ago a piece of metal from a steel wire rope broke of in my finger. I have a up to date tetnas shot got 10 days of anti biotics and probyotics and antibacterial cream. I had more meds for a wound that was so minor i never felt pain than any of the wounded Selka rebels except the ones we treated. So yes a simply wslking wounded of there could end up dead.

Highest estimates was 1500 died at least 400 died in the battle.

I spent a while week proving that to Andrewza with NAF photos and weblinks, he was humbled at the end. I wont waste my time repeating old stories, you deny the truth beause it hurts your Southie ego as your country has NOTHING compared to NAF ISTAR aircraft which will now be joined by JF-17 Thunder 4th Gen multi-role jet fighter....likely NAF is getting BVR missiles and Anti-Ship missiles...watch NAF grow lion's teeth !
.
I was not humbled and you failed to proof any thing.

Earlier today the Namibian Police Special Reserve force rescued a bunch of tourists who had been lost for three days without any food or water,The rescue team however gave them water and something to eat and assured them that they were now in safe hands. The tourists had been navigating their way through the Namib desert at the time and strayed from their path(because they didn't pack a GPS system undecided)Although they are safe now and were found with all their limbs attached to their bodies...The group has made it clear that they will never be visiting Namibia ever again.
So we screw up but blam it on the country?
