This is the entitlement mentality many Africans have. Being related automatically means expecting from them.

After working hard to make money and you ask some friends and relatives to help with projects in 9ja, their entitlement mentality kicks in and they double or triple the cost.

Many people in Nigeria expecting largesse from those abroad actually have an easier life in Nigeria: bribery, embezzlement & corruption money from work, little accountability and those abroad do not begrudge those locally based.

If the aunt doesn't give, she's stingy. If she gives what she can afford to, she's till lambasted.

Pathetic.

My advice for those abroad is simple: if any relative is a nice person and you know he/she cares about you, appreciate them. But do not bend over backward to make everyone happy. No matter how much you try within your means, you can never satisfy most. The appreciative ones will always appreciate your effort, no matter how little.

In my experience of a couple of decades, the laziest and those who can never freely do anything for others often are the most ungrateful.

Can a Nigerian passport holder visit EU countries, Australia, Japan, Canada, USA or even Morocco without a visa? That alone is massive freedom.

Remember that applying to study or reside in many developed countries outside EU or getting your EU acquired qualifications mutually recognised for immigration purposes is far easier for EU citizens.

I have travelled extensively and I have a fair knowledge of where and how long EU citizens can visit or stay in other countries.

Knowing how many "bad belle" people are everywhere these days, if I say more you will see people accusing me of showing off that I have this or that passport.

Massive freedom to travel to and settle in many developed countries worldwide.
