Jokerman: To Liverpool, no doubt. Or Madrid. May be to Man City if chasing more money. |
Gerrard59:Ok, let's assume that we will keep discovering more oil and gas in commercial quantities such as in Gombe and we never run out of it. Great! But remember that our oil and gas are only as useful as we have international market for it. Are you sure that will be the case in 50 years? If Western interests are better served by alternative energy sources provided by Western companies, they will ditch our oil and gas. Western companies still dominate international oil and gas business and make huge profits. That's why they still use oil and gas and reliable alternatives are not there yet. I can assure you that if right now Musk and other manufacturers make electric cars affordable today, in 10 years, 9ja that like to follow trend, Toks electric cars will flood 9ja and our people will dump petrol cars. Anybody who doesn't use electric will be a villager. Girls won't date a guy without electric car. I heard that Blackberry madness was once like that in 9ja. ![]() You might say India and China will will account for most international trade by then but they are not sitting on their hands either. Both will also develop their own technologies over the next 30 years. Anything to reduce strategic reliance on foreign energy sources. We can't afford to look into the future from simplistic and narrow angles. With Nigerian population growing at the current rate, more forests/nature will be destroyed for farming and human habitation. It will speedily reduce natural sanctuaries for wildlife. We can't afford to lose both ways. |
Reference: ![]() I hope it doesn't get to that point. Many of us are realising that wanton destruction of natural heritage is a travesty. Poverty and lack of opportunity are our major obstacles now. Long ago, we had ethical hunters who would not shoot an animal seen with young ones. For two reasons: If you shoot the mother, the babies may not survive, thereby reducing over all game available. And the babies have too little and too immature meat to eat. It avoided waste. Some land deities may also forbid deliberately killing female animals with babies or pregnant. Originally, African societies were VERY sophisticated philosophically. Ethical and moral stuff were often codified as taboos to strengthen them. Other proclamations were codified as law. We jettisoned much of our very important values that ensured sanity and cohesion in the name of modernity. The modernity we are struggling to adopt didn't take our African circumstances into account during its evolution in the West. We have failed to realise that and adapt it correctly (even improve it) to suit our own situation. We need to learn more how our ancestors did things and the lessons we can learn. Otherwise, it would seem that we never at any point did anything right. Not true. |
The dude is more at home in Niger than any other place. |
No evidence that it is the same woman. Even if it is, how many years apart? Let's compare the hubby before and after marriage. Let's see the lady without make-up before the marriage. Only then can way get closer to making a fair judgement. |
tunde233:You have Olupele of Upele, Oniyere of Uyere, Olute of Ute, Asuada of Isuada, etc. The ruler of Ijebu-Owo is Oba Ojomo-Oluda. Some may refer to him as Onijebu or just as The Ojomo. |
The story of Owo is not complete without Benin. Virtually the entire original people of many parts of Owo are Benin people. Upele is a good example. I have family throughout the area. The traditional rulers in that picture are all my people by the way. The current Olowo is Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III. A lawyer and former permanent secretary. Owo history can never be mentioned without Oba Olateru Olagbegi II who was twice Oba/Olowo/Ologho (1941-1968 and 1993-1999), founded Imade College and brought modernity to Owo. Action Group was launched in his palace and assisted Michael Ajasin's career massively. Ajasin drafted Western Region education policy blueprint for Awo. As a former Imade College Principal, Ajasin's educationist ideas drove the education policy that Awo implemented. It led to Yoruba's high level of education. Olowo Ojugbelu Arere (founder), Olowo Imade, Olowo Rerengejen and Ologho Elewuokun are also key historical figures. The current ruling houses are Olateru-Olagbegi, Ajike and Ogunoye. All the ruling houses descend from Oba Elewuokun. |
Nice. Our prayers are being answered. Let them please discover even larger amounts in the NW. Then we may finally have a chance of true federalism or even parting ways. |
UGBE634:Oh, great that North/Central already made the move. They should try co-operate biko and bid one more time. They will know how to manage themselves. For too long, Benin people have tolerated passive aggression and grudges of so called historical oppression by Benin people. People that we believe we are one often spearhead conniving against us. An example is at UNIBEN. All Benin people meant for VC were ganged up against over the years. Even Oshodin getting it wasn't easy. We know the role various people played in the gang up. I saw it too often back then. Benin would cede govt/civil service positions to others just to be fair and not perceived as oppressive because we already have state capital. Those people who now get the positions will now pack their people into positions, and corner scholarships awarded. I experienced it first hand. Years later, it will further promote the myth that Benin people are not educated. See what happened under Anenih in PDP. He cornered all positions for Ugbesiah, Osunbor and his underlings in Edo. Lucky Igbinedion, who turned out to useless only got it due to his dad's superb connections in the North. That big brother position that has cost us too much needs to stop. Time to go separate ways. We can co-operate in areas like culture, ensuring survival of Edoid languages or people can do it on their own. |
AutomaticMotors: ![]() Awo tried a lot. At least it gives them a sense of common origin. Even Hausa, Takpa and other slaves in Yorubaland suddenly come from Ife. ![]() Even if Oduduwa had 4, 000 children and grandchildren, he won't have so many hunter children and grandkids that migrated to form virtually the whole world. Every Baale suddenly has a father from Ife. Eku ise o! ![]() Now I understand why Oba Frederick Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo, is not popular with "everybody is from Ife " apologists. He finds the story too funny to accept. PhD holders in insultology Omoluabis, over to you. ![]() |
UGBE634:We Benins are not even claiming anybody. We just say what history says. Does anybody admitting or denying that they migrated from Benin put food on your table or remove money from your account? No, it doesn't! In fact, I would like Edo State population to grow big enough that Edo State can be divided. Benin/Edo State and Edo Central & North can form their own State. Internal cohesion is vital for development. The more homogeneous a State is, the better long term. Since Delta State was created, there is more distance between Edo People and Urhobo, Isoko and Itsekhiri. At some point in the future, all can decide if they want to co-operate or not. With gradual distancing, co-operation will be more a matter of genuine desire to do so or forever let it be. |
PheelzAlmighty:A lot. Lots of kids make choices that later saddle their parents with huge burdens. You can't blame parents for having bigger dreams for their children. If truly the mechanic can cater for her and her kid adequately let her call their bluff. But ensure never to go to back to her parents for financial support. Her parents will eventually come round to accept it if they succeed. Simple. |
African tradition also made men to go to war and die in large numbers in inter-tribal and civil wars. It protected women. In my culture, we have a Queen Mother who for over 500 years has her own royal court and chiefs just like her son, the king. In times past, she had her own army, just like the king. One even led her army to war, but women were not among her soldiers. There are a whole range of duties young men owe to their village/clan/town/kingdom that women do not have to fulfil. During funerals, when a headman to lead a funeral is selected, a headwoman is also selected. Upon completion of funeral, the head man becomes a "quasi" replacement father and the headwoman a replacement mother to help the children cope with loss of a parent. Two "quasi" parents for one parent lost. So consider it according to each tribe, culture and history instead of sweeping generalisations. We should generally know our history better and what they were originally meant for. Then we can decide what current age doesn't need anymore. Culture is dynamic. |
Let me wish her plenty of good luck and congratulations. |
Bunkbars:His wife. He just had a new baby in his 60s now. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:Or was it ritual doggy candles sef. ![]() |
Genea:You think say na everybody know the difference between England and Scotland? ![]() At least 80% of our people use London to refer to the whole of UK. I can even mention many 9ja films and music in which London is used to mean UK as a whole. Oyinbo are even worse. Majority mention Africa as if it is just one country. I once met an American graduate of History from a good university who had never heard of the country called Ghana. ![]() |
UGBE634:@ UGBE634 Great that you have taken your time to compile the above. We need more of this about other Edoid languages. Comparing words and phrases in two or more languages: Afemai/Isoko, Degema/Benin, Esan/Ososo, Urhobo/Owan (Ora), etc. |
CoronaVirusRelo:My "hut" is better than your "Lekki mansion". No blackout, no dry tap in my hut or pothole streets in hood. I am also within 3km of some of the world's best universities. A nice hut in a non-Banana Republic. If that makes you feel better, we all (millions of us) wash corpses. It is washing corpses that we use to remit over $20 billion yearly into the Banana economy. ![]() So please go to Aro, Yaba Left and Uselu and recruit all the patients into Nigerian Armed Forces. Since people with known mental health issues are those you need in your army. Goodluck. ![]() Na you go fall victim. I will only be reading it here on NL in my hut. Happy Sunday. |
DaInferno:10% of what? Farm produce. Harvest of plant or livestock. It was never mentioned that physicians and carpenters back then were asked to donate 10% of income. Eminent theologians I have had never taught me otherwise. We cannot twist it now when it suits pastors' pockets to say "oh, we are not farmers these days, we cannot donate harvest". About 60-70% plus of Nigerians still live in rural areas as farmers. I have said this for years here. The popular US televangelist, Creflo Dollar, realised the errors of his ways on tithing and has apologised. There were already physicians, officials working for Roman colonial authority, tent makers/defence contractors like Saul (Saint Paul), tax collectors, and so on during Jesus' time. |
Creamypie:Only in a Banana Republic governed on the basis of corruption, quota system and bigotry. RIP to the lady. |
lereinter:True but not scoring a single goal in 3 games despite Henry, Trezeguet playing sharp (both hit cross bar in Senegal game) and Youri Djorkaeff still playing well, that last game was a must win. |
dammywapes:Like Zidane's injury did to France in 2002. Pogba and Kante's absence could prove crucial for France this year too. Whenever 9ja is not in a tournament, one seems to enjoy it more. No fear of losing final to Cameroon or being hammered by Argentina. ![]() |
Wow! If true. |
spinna:I was going to ask same questions. Greattestman does your mum need a bit of space and freedom? Is she single or divorced? Your dad or siblings have not been mentioned at all. If she spent her years focusing on looking after you and you are now 20, perhaps she wants to have time to flex a bit now. So try to understand. |
Ejiakusmith:Well, in 9ja a cow has more value than a human being currently. The average 9ja person is below 6th class citizen. Ask kidnap victims left to their fate across 9ja. Why else do Chinese and Indians brutalise their 9ja workers, even to death at times, and get away with it? |
teamc:Dude, there is a FP topic of a pregnant lady caught by her hubby in bed with a pastor. Even if you live in the same house with your wife, nothing is guaranteed. Around 35% of first born kids and 25% of all kids belong to a man outside. So the kids millions of men are rearing don't belong to them. The risk of cheating is probably not bigger if she went to Canada than in 9ja. In fact sexual harassment fear (men are afraid to hit on women anyhow) reduces chances of women cheating at work abroad than the regular way bosses bang married women in 9ja. With her sponsorship, she won't need to marry a guy to get her papers in Canada. This exigency is a major reason why people ditch 9ja hubby/wife to marry to get papers abroad. Survival. Unless you are quite wealthy and she has enough money, the only risky angle is established 9ja guys dangling support and money. Because money can be very tight as a newbie. Developed countries are quite expensive. Especially Canada, UK, Australia, Switzerland and Scandinavia. Some US cities like NYC, LA, DC, Boston and San Francisco too. In all, don't worry too much but try and join her as soon as possible. Hustling together is much better. |
Almaigaa:True ND princess for that matter. ![]() Make we dey claim our own before others kollobi her. |
Zane2point4:Or for any other slowpoke for that matter. What do you expect from people who have a covenant with suffering? |
Almaigaa:True ND princess for that matter. ![]() |
