And they are laughing at a burial [/quoteThe way people go & flash smiles in funerals these days make you wonder if they actually go to sympathise or just to be seen. Na wa o. |
HzRF:. GMB won't even be as tolerant as GEJ in the face of bare-face lies by the opposition. If GMB choses a good cabinet, he might actually record some meaningful development, which will be built of GEJ's foundation (APC will of course claim GEJ just stood akimbo for 5 years). But democracy and freedom of speech will diminish. Naturally, his supporters will say economic progess is better than freedom of speech. Na freedom you go chop? & similar things. The issue will be money for PDP. PDP have always had money to go round being in charge at the centre. But with less money now, many will decamp to APC where bread will be buttered. If APC remain as frugal as they have being in opposition, many decampees will return to PDP and push to regain power. |
pazienza:Google is your friend. You certainly are not going to tell me about influence of French on English language because I doubt if you have lived longer in France or England than me. So don't dabble into that. You certainly cannot stand up to me in World history generally. ![]() Listing Ugbodu Kings from Google does not make you an authority in Anioma or Benin history. Anioma can claim to come from anywhere, the Benin don't need sucking up to anyone. Its place in world civilisation is assured. |
PPAngel:. LOL. Where you around then? Look at the table showing origins of slaves on this thread during slave trade. And see written report of slave buyers. Your tribalism and bigotry cannot change history. What you may not know in your ignorance is that Benin was an empire, with several tribes some more integrated, others nominally. Different tribes negotiated certain rights within the empire during poltical negotiations following war defeats. While you assert without evidence, I am backing mine up with written reports. If you knew anything about history, you will know that Benin stopped trade totally (even papper n ivory) with Europe when they kept insisting on slaves. All those South American olosho all over Europe, are they also facing Karma? |
Very interesting to see the lies of some tribes who claimed Benin raided neighbouring tribes for slaves. It further confirms the report of a 17th century French slave trader that Oba of Benin had banned Slave trade involving Benin people, whether as slave or as a trader. That certain elite of other tribes within Benin empire then negotiated freedom to sell their own people. That among the 100 or so slaves marketed along the route to Gwatto/Ughoton Port, there was no Benin trader or slave among them. |
ezeagu:. You made a very good point until you mentioned being in Delta. Urhobo/Okpe, Isoko are Edoid people. And Urhobo has the largest population in Delta. The Okun of Kogi are Yoruboid people. You must be very young and not remember Bendel State. State creation by dictators like IBB does not validate or invalidate History. An Anioma person (Denis Osadebey) was the First Premier of Midwest region that became Bendel. But it has taken Anioma 24 years to produce a governor in Delta State. Delta was not created through referendum like Midwest Region was. Until Biafra war, the term Igbo was not even used to describe Anioma people in Benin. They were called Ovbie-Asaba, Ovbie-Agbor, Ovbie-Ekuale (Ukwani), Ovbie-Oboro (Ubulukwu), etc. Remember that while war with Biafra was going on, Anioma people were still initially attending State Exco meetings in Benin. Ovbigbo/Ivbigbo was generally reserved for people from accross the Niger. We had both Anioma and Igbo classmates, neighbours, tenants etc. Now that identifying with larger influential tribes is cool considering the political mathematics of Nigeria, I guess you now call people whatever they chose to be called. |
pazienza:. So you mean an Igbo Obi, without any ancestral connections to Benin was quite happy to take up a Bini regnal title simply because Bini was centre of influence back then? English has been influential in Nigeria now for over one hundred years, how many Obi Johnson II, Igwe McDonald III, Oba Winterbottom or Sarkin Henderson have you seen anywhere in Nigeria? Nice try but it is a mere conjecture. You have not talked from a point of knowledge of Agbor history but a mere denial. Denial is a common thing. Even the holocaust that happened barely 70 years ago and is even on film is still denied by some. As for the Benin, there's no need to claim anybody. With the loss of Empire in 1897, Benin accepted the severance of it provinces. However, its place in human civilisation is assured as seen in museums worldwide: London, Paris, Berlin, Armsterdam, California and elsewhere that I have been able to see. |
ezeagu:. As it is now, with every hamlet in present day Nigeria claiming total independence since Adam and Eve, we will never know. Especially without written proof of treaties and such things. But why did the Obi/Dein become so influenced as to adopt Benin kind of government? Why is it that several earliest Obis of Agbor were called "Gbenoba", another version of Igbinoba (meaning I take refuge with the Oba)? Why is it that only later Obis took Igbo names upon becoming Obi? Why did Ojukwu famously despise some Onitsha indigenes for claiming descent from Benin? People can laugh at an idea out of true knowledge of facts or out of ignorance. |
macof:. Correction: The Bini and hence all the Edoid tribes (Urhobo/Okpe/Isoko/Esan/Afemai/Owan/Degema in Rivers State and many more) DO NOT come from Ife. If they did, Bini language would be much more closely related like the Edoid languages are. Like you rightly said, Ife is called Uhe in Bini. Bini Royal Family and relatives, however, claim to descend from Ife. Hence the saying " Uhe obioba". Meaning the Oba is from Ife. As descendants of an earlier warrior Benin King, we're very conscious of it. Our morning greeting and accompanying "oriki" are constant reminders. Though the Benin have a different version of Ododuwa as a banished Benin Prince Ekaladerhan who entered Ife from the East.Stopping temporarily at Owo. The Link between Owo & Benin , especially Royalty cannot be ignored. Interestingly Benin is roughly 70 miles from Owo and Owo is about same distance from Ile-Ife. Hopefully, our descendants 100 years from now will be less tribalistic and have more confidence in themselves as Africans. Maybe, they will start to scientifically analyse and study African history with a view to deciphering migrations and foundation of Nigerian Kingdoms. For now, we are still monkeying about with ideas of progenitors crossing seas and deserts coming from Arabia, Egypt, Sudan and what not. |
Nice concept. Hope the Chinese don't nick your idea first. Because they can make it cheaply. |
barcanista:. He built his own private university! After all most 9ja politicians go int politics for their own pockets. ![]() Referen...kini? They'd rather unleash boko Haram x 100 if such a moves looks like succeeding. Except it's a referendum whether to permanently zone the presidency to the North. Shikena. |
Fionasmom:Abeg my dear, where are you based/building? Who's your builder? Can you please upload the plan? Thanks. |
I was one those very delighted when Etteh emerged as speaker. If she hadn't messed up, I would hve wholeheartedly wished she became Senate President. Obviously in 9ja, corruption & impunity seem trans-gender. And trans-generational going by Dimeji Bankole's antics back then. ![]() |
chimoskyg:. Na so na. Dem pretty hot intelligent babes seriously make sense o. When they sit near in lecture or clinic, your brain dey even pick more information sef. Though they were oyinbo babes in my case. ![]() |
Nani4all:. It's a humbling experience dissecting one, especially the first time. It puts everything in perspective. Money, wealth, cars and all. Post-mortem rather becomes routine. |
Great thread. Kudos. |
Except there are further allowances that come on top, the pay is not all that. One small Igbo trader earns more than that in 3 months. You will need a PhD for the teaching positions. |
Having their bodies would help their families put closure. |
Well this guy has proper education. He could have gone to study Arabic or jihadism in Mauritania, Chad or Sudan, then rely on his royal liniage to reach high positions. Or better still rely on a father of some now convicted jihadist terrorist to advance his career. This Mr Ado-Bayero actually did cracked his brain to learn. Congratulations Sir! Reading through this thread, nobody has said GEJ has done something illegal. More to come. Time to pardon some prisoners, with our poor legal system, some poor people framed by corrupt men in black might be unjustly languishing in jail. |
Daniel058:Answer is simple. These are new States, not so much in people's consciousness especially the elders that will be called to lead traditional prayers n break kolanut. This is due to creation of States, an exercise I feel is causing more division and waste of money on bureaucracy n civil servants/recurrent expenditure. |
Justfollowit:. But most guys are talking from experience. You get a lot of poo from our girls if you have little money. Sadly this common experience has greatly diminished our ladies in many guys' estimation. Guys have little belief in love now if not backed by money. |
Lol. |
after1:Yes he can ban it. China bans many online websites. He can ask ISPs to ban websites. Or you don't even know that? Press freedom is sacrosanct. Except GMB has no intention of upholding democratic tenets. You sue for libel if they peddle lies against you, not bar or ban. |
Those IMF need koboko flogging make dem for get sense. Maybe them need deliverance by TB Joshua. Nonsense. |
saintopus:Very childish. If their programme lied against you, sue them for libel. You don't ban press in a democracy. |
Have they also compiled suicide rates in those happy Western countries? I think the picture would be incomplete without that. |
@OP, I hope you're not talking from experience. If yes you must mingle with terrible guys. ![]() All of the above can be true at some point in a man's life. @Condom. Women seem to hate condom far more than men. A female buddy once told me that it can be painful for ladies. I have been amazed how many well-educated ladies don't insist on it. And you the guy having to be pushing to use it. Not only in Africa, Europe too. There are lots of men who don't watch porn. Sometimes it may be the elderly guy with grown up kids who watches porn and not the young guy that you might think. ![]() |
I'm not a fan of Buhari, a man who truncated our nascent democracy and denied us the chance to evolve our democracy. But I'm with him on this. Provided he does a thorough job and not shield corrupt APC chieftains/friends and acolytes. All corrupt politicians, contractors, oil subsidy scammers, civil servants & looters should start booking their 2m x 0.5 m space in the nearest prison yard. If Diezani or Oduah, or Tinubu or Amaechi or anyone is found corrupt, all should report to nearest jail. If Kashamu is really on the run, he should be bundled to wherever they are looking for him to face the music. Then I will start taking Buhari serious. For now, no need to talk too much or they will start destroying incriminating documents, hide their loot better & cover their tracks. |
Jester-General of the Federation (JGF) in-waiting since SGF has gone to South East and Petroleum Minister likely to SW. |
