lx3as: Hope you can enlighten us more about Ekiokpagha Treaty?
It's clear to the reasonable world that Ekaladerhan's moon light tale is to solidify and give credence to Oba of Bini as been indigenous to Igodomomigodo and relegate the treaty. Also for Igodomomigodo people's acceptance and cooperation. Oba Erediauwa was the author of all this. His son may uphold the treaty and the connection between Benin and Ifẹ.
Once more, I take nothing out of Ogiamien's case and they should also know that they can never relegate Oba of Bini status. Had Oba Erediauwa known this, he wouldn't have gone into promoting Ekaladerhan's story. I also have no further submission to make on this; several facts had been submitted on this forum...You can simply join in, against Ogiamien family in the case. There was no treaty. That is Ogiamie Trumpet nonsense. You can almost call it Ekiokpagha peace. It was after Ogiamie was defeated and he submitted. You make a treaty with someone or an entity considered independent and maybe equal. Oba Ewedo, because of the heroics of Evian (ancestor of Ogiamie), generously granted him a chieftaincy title with his nickname Ogiamie. He later became an Uzama n'Ibie (junior Uzama or junior kingmakers/crowners) member along with chief Ineh and others. Junior kingmakers creation was a deft political move by Oba Ewuare l (if I am not mistaken). It meant the senior Uzama chiefs cannot hold any crown prince to ransom before coronation. He could defer to the junior Uzama to crown him. Ogiamie also makes the physical Royal stool for the Oba. In remembrance of the fact that Oba Ewedo took the stool that Ogiamie sat on to administer Benin during the interregnum from him when he submitted. Along with some role in coronation and ritual matters. But none is so important that the Palace cannot do without. After 1897, the colonial authorities did not even consider Ogiamien as important to give him any role in the administration. Whereas chiefs Ero, Aiyobahan, Obakhavbaye and other high ranking chiefs ruled the kingdom. |

In Owo we have Uselu (Center of a town) Ugbowo etc all this are related to (Obaship monarch they have in common) but Ife set the pace for them all. You write based on knowledge from one side. I write based on looking from both sides. A street in Uselu in Owo bears my family name. Uselu in Benin was a village outside the wall of Benin City in ancient times. It was not part of Benin. It's now a suburb of Benin City. In fact not distinguishable from Benin City anymore. As for Ugbowo that borders Uselu (even farther from Benin), I have a family history with it that I'd narrate another day. The name already hints at it. |

Do u know it is believed the world started from Ife? Is the world 800years old? The eastern Yoruba your partly from are new settlement that could be 800 years old. Have u ever hear Past Oba of Benin in dispute with Ooni? Never. If river forgets its source it will dry. if Oba of Benin palace should insult Oyo kingdom or Ooni of Ife, he will be shown his source. Many more secrets the world does not know now will be unraveled to the Edos and the Oba of Benin. A reasonable Oba of Benin that will reunite with the Source will emerge in the future.
Our history ain't fraud and ain't myth but the fact I have no time to go through your post. All I can say is that it's Yoruba writers saying Oduduwa Descended from mountain, from heaven, flew from Middle East 800 years ago. And all Yoruba's descend from him. So it's those people rubbishing history by themselves. By the way they claim Oranmiyan left Benin to found Oyo empire. In a hurried attempt to make Oduduwa a unifying figure for Yoruba by Ajayi Crowther and Samuel Johnson, they created a story that has taken many twists since. Even Ooni of Ife and Olugbo could not agree on Oduduwa. Individual Yoruba belief is cool but what is the official story? I have written years ago here that it's a shame for Yoruba to claim 800 years since Oduduwa as Yoruba progenitor. We have been on this for years. |

Onijagidijagan: You're not from Owo. Owo was never under Benin. We've invaded Benin in the past and won several wars with Benin..Owo was never defeated. I will need you to tell me the truth where you are truly from. I'm more related to Ogunoye. A past Oba of Benin once led war to Owo and was defeated in which the Oba of Benin was killed. We have it in our history only not published on the Internet.
We don't pay unnecessary tribute to Benin we both respect ourselves.
Also Owo Oba migrated from Ife and there's no dispute about that but a fact.
Ife is more than 5000 years old and more than 50 kings (Obas) has ruled the kingdom before Oduduwa but their names lost in the history. Ooni of Ife dynasty started with Oduduwa and one of his grandchildren founded Owo.
There is no such thing like Ekaladeran. Don't Even say it in front of any Yoruba, Itsekiri, Igala, Ijebu etc. Ekaladeran was fabricated by Oba's palace less than 200 years ago. Even the Ogiemien( the aborigines of Benin) no isn't the truth. Wishy washy submission. More related to Ogunoye just because Olowo Ogunoye is currently ruling. When did first Olowo came to Owo? What was his name? Nobody can tell the story like a person who spans both cultures. The most objective. Let us assume that first Olowo came from Ife, what about the ordinary Owo people? They also descend from Ododuwa? Our people from SW still insist Oduduwa lived about 800 years ago. And claim his kids and grandkids began all the Yoruba kingdoms. So Yoruba historians have not explained how all YOrubas descend from Oduduwa. People can be intolerant due to ethnic pride if they lioe. So whether Ijebu or Igala want to hear or do not want to hear is not my business. The empirical evidence is more important. Boko Haram do not want to hear about people of all religions living happily together. But it does not mean their ideology is right. Your corner side history has no relevance. It's a myth. I am partly a product of Benin campaign in Eastern Yorubaland. Does it not surprise you how Owo royal practices closely resemble Benin monarch's? If you were any close to the royal house as you claim, you will know. |

StarFlux: The thing with Yoruba numbers is that they have different forms.
For example one: oókan. If you want to say a or one trader (noun modifier) you will say: oníṣòwò kan, not oníṣòwò oókan. Same with two (eéjì) turns to méjì, as in ilé méjì - two houses.
1. Oókan 2. Eéjì 3. Ẹẹ́ta 4. Ẹẹ́rin 5. Aárùnún 6. Ẹẹ́fà 7. Eéjè 8. Ẹẹ́jọ 9. Ẹẹ́sànán 10. Ẹẹ́wàá 11. Oókànlá 12. Eéjìlá 13. Ẹẹ́tàlá 14. Ẹẹ́rìnlá 15. Aárùnúndínlógún 16. Ẹẹ́rìndínlógún 17. Ẹẹ́tàdínlógún 18. Eéjìdínlógún 19. Oókandínlógún 20. Ogún 21. Oókanlélógún 22. Eéjìlélógún 23. Ẹẹ́tálélógún 24. Ẹẹ́rìnlélógún 25. Aárùndínlọ́gbọ̀n
Etc, etc.
100. Ọgọ́rùn 200. Igba 300. Ọ̀ọ́dúnrún 400. Irinwó 500. Ẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀ta
Etc, etc. But these are the traditional numbers. There is a simplified system for all numbers, as I will show here with thousands (ẹgbẹ̀rún or ọ̀kẹ́
1000. Ẹgbẹ̀rún 2000. Ẹgbẹ̀rún méjì 3000. Ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́ta 4000. Ẹgbẹ̀rún mẹ́rin
100 000. Àpò ọ̀kẹ́
I'm sure you will see the logic. Using traditional numbers, it would be very hard to follow once you get really high.
1 million: Òdù kan 10 million: Ìdì òdù 1 billion: Èèrú kan 1 trillion: Ọ̀kẹ́/ẹgbẹ̀rún èèrú kan
Etc, etc.
Hopefully I didn't write any of these wrong. Also, "p" is pronounced "kp", like in ìpínlẹ̀. Good |

But you have simplified versions like this:
For example:
10. Ìdì kan 20. Ìdì méjì
23 now turns to ìdì méjì l'ẹ́ta.
Literally: ten times two plus 3. So they are much simpler, but it's good knowing both.

If with your attached historical account written by a white man, he clearly stated that Oba eweka came from Ife.
Everyone agreed The first Oba of Benin came from Ile-Ife.
Oba Ewuare( the second) during his coronation said he's the son of Oduduwa (he knows what he meant by the statement) The Ogisos of Benin that said Oba came from Ife are not Foolish.
I'm from Owo, Oba Ewuare1 of Benin was killed during a war with Owo I guess that's the relationship you're talking about. Oh boy you can lie. You are not from Owo. Maybe an immigrant to Owo. Tell me your lineage in Owo: Iloro, Ojomo Oluda, Ologho (Ogunoye, Ajike, Olateru-Olagbegi) or which quarter? Everyone claims Ewuare I died fighting them: Anioma, Esan and poorly informed Owo people. Benin and Owo made peace long ago. Despite Benin winning, Owo remained very independent. Benin immigrants moved in large numbers peacefully to Owo area. By the reign of Oba Ozolua (from about 1483) Such as Upele/Ipele near Owo. The warrior that died fighting in Owo was Iken, leader at Uselu (a village near Benin in those days). No Oma Ologho will spew nonsense and lie so effortlessly like you. You know everybody in Yorubaland is claiming descent from Oduduwa since it became politically trendy to do so. A big lie. Oduduwa supposedly lived 800 years ago. Yorubaland is way older. Benin/Igodo was already well-established by 40BC. I don't expect Yoruba race to be much younger than that. I doubt even if Ojugbelu Arere came from Ife. Oduduwa story has many versions. Ekaladerhan from Igodo, from Yemen, Egypt, Saudi, Nubia, Israel, etc. All cannot be correct. These are probably mythical stories that sprang up at various times. Eventually coalescing. They were probaly about different people previously. Even Olugbo of Ugbo casts serious doubt on the Yoruba version. |
