Try market day around you...I have good memories of Nigeria corn season-ukpo oka from delicious freshly harvested corn. I love my mom's style of using mortar to crush the fresh corn before adding the ingredients and wrap in warm plantain leaf.
I have tried making ukpo but the thing no gree hard even after cooking for over an hour! Tasted like ukpo but never solid - waste of corn as it ended in the drain.
The closest to ukpo is Tamales from proper Mexican eateries.
Mariangeles:
It's the corn season in Nigeria, yet almost not a corn in sight . Disappointing .

Family › Re: Why The High Rate Of Suicides? by armyofone(m): 8:58pm On Jun 19, 2019
You are right-for some people, long term poverty and lack of job leading to hopelessness. Financial stress!
Nigerians should start from somewhere-i mean have the number of children you can afford to care for. Having a child or two/three should be enough. Stop polygamy! One man with two wives and many children, kai!
Use BC to prevent pregnancy! Not every laying should result in pregnancy!
Maybe then there will be enough resources.

Family › Re: He Abandoned Me With Pregnancy. Please Where Can I Report Him For Child Support? by armyofone(m):
I think it is best to make that choice right before insertion. Hey grab the condom or none! After that act, we should take responsibility of our action. If the guy doesn't want responsibility, then the woman should step up and take care of her child by herself. It won't be easy but doable.
I know they don't come with the tag "married " on their forehead but ladies should not be in a hurry let anyone lay them unprotected.

sassysure:
Still regarding choices we make.
As some of us said that as soon as the man straf without CD, he has no choice again to choose whether to involve himself or not if his action results in pregnancy.

Now a scenario arises whereby a married man give a single lady belle and want the said lady to give birth as he is ready to take care of them 100%.
Now, if the lady said no, as she dont wanna give birth as a single woman or have a child for a married man or even don't want anything to connect her with the man since they were just having fun and shit happened.

My question is this; as in this case, the man don't have a choice anymore even though he don't want the pregnancy, do the lady here have any choice?
Afterall it takes two to tango and the man is ready to take full responsibility.
If the lady decides to abort irrespective of however the man pleads, can we say that the lady is heartless?

Family › Re: My Husband And His Mother!!! by armyofone(m): 3:18pm On Jun 13, 2019
I really don't understand why Africans living in the West find it really difficult to fully accept the ways of life of their adopted home/country. Even the ones that schooled in the west and financially comfortable continue to behave like they are in Nigeria environments with their thoughts and behaviors -I'm a doctor, moving to join my wife and children, my parents must follow me to our new home etc really?
Your parents lived, worked and saw you through college in the states - great- anyway it's their responsibilities to care for their minor children!
You as the husband is working and won't be around to play the role of caretaker right ? So who is going to take responsibility for their care ? Your working wife who is raising her children?
At their retirement age, they either stay in their home or move to an assisted living home. You can go visit or have them visit but not live with you permanently.
Op, in your own situation, come to an arrangement whereby you guys rent an apartment for them in the city you both living for easy visitation that is, if they don't want to live in an assisted living home.
Kai !!! We too dey use sentiment complicate things for ourselves -haba!!

This type of thread is for dropping a word or two/encouragement....Such that sometimes when life throws you lemon and you are trying to make lemonade, you scroll or stroll down memory lane for something to cheer or smile at, or sigh and carry on. I think that was op intention.
No e-punch please...I'm boiling fresh corn who want some?
