IslamRe: Conversation Between A Non Muslim And A Muslim Cleric by AtheistD(m): 4:42pm On Jan 31, 2013
POTUT: Must say these are quite witty answers from the sheikh.

I'm not a muslim. I have often wondered the reasons behind some customs in Islam. I imagine o could ask the same questions if I were to meet the sheikh. Below are further questions to the sheikh:

1. Not everyone is allowed to approach or shake the queen Elizabeth, but she may choose to shake our honor whomsoever she wishes. As the british queen has been introduced into this logic (even though Islam is older than the emergence of the british queen as a powerful monarch in the absence if a make successor to the british throne), are women in Islam allowed to utilize this privilege too?

2. If sweets can used to symbolize women, does this mean they are consumables? Especially as no mention of the covering or exposure of men was made.

3. I agree with the logic that the glory of God is too bright that when out of present, you do not require the sun. No man has seen God.

4. If the wine is forbidden, and is at the same time referred to as the "daughter", does this imply that muslim men are not allowed to marry muslim girls? Or conversely, that muslim girls are meant for non muslims to marry?
This arises directly from the sheikh's response, because he rejects the wine (daughter) that came from the grape (wife)...but the wine (daughter) must get married some time.

I'm not in any way ridiculing Islam, I'm simply responding to the specific analogy used. Perhaps there are better answers out there to the non muslim's questions.
Exactly. The answers dont quite match the questions.

1. Queen Elizabeth is a monarch and she actually waves and shakes ppls hands. Ppl have met her from the average crowd and a few have even been invited to have tea with her on occasion so that is not a good description.

2. You can gaze at the sun with UV shades (even just shortly) and you can see the sun if you partially close your eyes. So that is not even a suitable excuse for the lack of ability to gaze upon God. In fact that is the most stupid of all the answers.

3. I have nothing to say about the sweet situation. Comparing women to sweets is just WRONG. To be devoured and consumed shocked And where do womens rights come in? What about men? Why arent they subjected to such indecent dressing laws like women?

4. The wine-wife-daughter analogy doesnt even answer the question. A more appropriate answer would be to address the alcoholic content of wine and the dangers of drinking as opposed to talking nonsense about wives and daughters huh

The cleric was talking nonsense and everyone was creaming their pants to this huh. He was probably high on shisha shocked
IslamRe: Conversation Between A Non Muslim And A Muslim Cleric by AtheistD(m): 4:19pm On Jan 31, 2013
vedaxcool: Yep, in essence it says a man appreciate women who dress decently, people tend to respect nuns without knowing who they are because their appearance gives us confidence on what to expect from them, likewise our musilmah are respected even in places like America, the sweet analogy indicates people have less regard for women who dress indecently compared to women who present themselves well covered!
maclatunji: Her attractively coloured wrapping is her intelligence, her aroma is her decorum and so on and so forth.
Maclatunji said it has to do with intelligence, you state it has to do with decent dressing grin

Perhaps the cleric wasnt clear in his description wink

All muslims know why he didnt use Mohammed. He is a hypocrite.

Christianity EtcRe: Does Christianity Amount To Laziness? by AtheistD(m): 1:13pm On Jan 31, 2013
Rapmoney: The manner in which some people practise their own version of Christianity makes me wonder!
This applies mostly to the pentecostal groups. Why should somebody stay in church doing one thing or the other
all in the name of working for the Lord all through the day, 7 days a week, 30/31 days of the month and 365 days of the year?
These people don't go to work and most of them look so wretched. The funny thing is that their pastors who they seem to do
'eye service' for live better than them in all ramifications. God that created man commanded man to work...in Acts of the Apostles,
Apostle Paul made it clear that 'he who does not want to work, let him not eat'. In Ecclesiastes, it is also made clear that there
is time for everything. What this means is that there is time to be in church, whether sweeping or cleaning the premises, praying
or what have you and still a time to be working so that you can earn money and take care of yourself and your loved ones. I know of a relation some years back who spent all her time in church, 24/7, 365 while others were working. Today, she can't even pay her bills - common light (PHCN) bills!!!

Why do some Christians equate Christianity to Laziness?
Maybe they are not lazy but misguided. If they are working in the church then that shows they have the capacity to work. If they can channel that energy to something more fruitful they might be more successful.

Also, they might be intellectualy lazy. I see ppl abandoning logic and reason for the spiritually carnal pleasures of the church grin

They spend in excess of 40% of their income and a great deal of their man hours in the church yet they wonder why life is getting harder and finances tighter. All the time spent fasting through the night and praying fervently could be better used to develop their knowledge in certain fields and other practical skills. How many have read non-religious books. They have no time to take training courses in their professions. How many even know the history of xtianity itself, how it came about, the council of nicaea and other ecumenical councils, the great schism, the crusades, protestant reformation, genesis of their church? Some dont even know the doctrines of their church.

maclatunji: Her attractively coloured wrapping is her intelligence, her aroma is her decorum and so on and so forth. Go out more, you will see different sizes, colours and styles of Hijab.

Obsession with women being covered is something else amongst Non Muslims.
Really? Intelligence? I got the impression it was more to do with dressing style and being objectified as a sex object. Being covered means you are not being viewed in a dirty sleazy manner and hence have better value... or something along those lines.

There are some different styles etc but some Islamic countries tend to be radical with their application of these. Black is the most preferred colour because it attracts the least amount of vitriol and criticism.

And where does the woman come into all of this? At what point do they decide if they want to wear it or not?

The reason there is an obsession is because we believe it is an outdated law. It does not apply to the modern world.

Well why dont you give us some answers without using silly stories.

The person asked good questions and expected solid answers.... not esoteric babble.

And why would anyone marvel at such stupidity too?

To compare a sweet to a lady? Hmmm. What about the wrapping of the sweet? It can be wrapped in any appealing colour... so why do muslim women have to wear black hijabs etc.

None of the silly stories answer any of the questions asked... neither do they make sense. smiley

ooman: There are fake believers because the whole idea of God is fake and genetically engineered by early men. You still follow primitive thinking and live in the primitive way of life.

When will you wake up to the truth that there is no God. There is only us and things that we can see and work with.
Good to see you back. Where have you been smiley

Do you still worship the flying spaghetti wink

@OP

Sounds reasonable. But with the diversity within Xtianity how do we know what is real and what is not... or who is genuine and who is not? It is getting harder and harder to differentiate between the two.

Your focus should be more related to the appropriate practices of true xtians and how to encourage such.

timifakay: @ Frosbel Matt. 5: 10- Blessed are they which are persecuted for rightheousness sake for: for thiers is the kingdom of heaven.
Arian was persecuted for righteousness sake grin. Is his the kingdom of Heaven?

@OP
To be a xtian you need to first believe in God the almighty, creator of the heavens and the earth.

Also, believe in the son of God. Christ.

And finally believe in the Holy GHOST.

Not to mention Heaven and Hell.

The devil and his evil.

Those who obey Gods law through Abraham (the old testament) and Christs law (The Testament) will go to Heaven.

Those who do not will go to hell.

I think the Catholics during their baptism ceremony summarise the basics.

You have missed quite a few "best sellers" but I hope you went through Logigic's 'Atheist letter to Muslims'? If you haven't then you have missed a lot!
Really? I might have to check out the old threads.

I have seen Logicboys atheist letter thread. A good solid letter that I believe should be used to tackle key issues in Islam relating to extremism and violence.

Islam has condemned extremism from day one of its existence, till this very moment muslims have done a lot in refuting extremist views, it is ignorant people like the op et al, that would wake up one day and begin speaking out of reality when in fact they need to prescribe solutions to their uncontrollable ability to manufacture lies and distort reality (just like you are doing), before one goes running his mouth on a problem, he needs to know what has been done, I am least surprised knowing the antecedents of the op!
Have YOU condemned any of these types?

What can be done to make Islam a more tolerant religion?

I am a practical person. I dont believe in lip service. What you see is different from what is on ground. Ppl are being killed in a lot of countries in the name of Islam. It is time TRUE muslims stood uo against this nonsense. NO MORE EXCUSES.
IslamRe: The True Meaning Of Jihad by AtheistD(m): 12:29am On Jan 31, 2013
@OP.

The real debate is related to how it is applied. Go to Yobe, approach 10 mosques and preach this jihad sermon.

If you return safely we might take you more seriously. Ppl are being killed in the name of jihad. This lengthy sermon has little relevance until the killings are addressed.

Bigots can go over to that thread and like CAN some more! Atlest the man tried involved apologized over a comment that was clearly misconstrued and wasn't meant to be a joke about Jesus but a criticism of how govt. Spokes persons behave when criticized, but trust the atheist op and his christians cheer leaders to take things out of context! Anyway it was wrong thing to do bringing religious personality into such discourse!
I think the OP is 100% right. Some muslims say vile things about xtianity and Christ (as well as other religions) but it does not lead to their deaths or deaths of other muslims. The violence associated with Islam is an issue to be addressed by the moderate muslims. So rather than trying to dodge the question you should admit that some muslims take these things too far and start discussing how we all can address this. Also add extremist race hate preachers to the topic too.
