Thanks sir. I am being treated as a 'transfer' student into year 3. So as against 4yrs, the Bsc program will run for 2yrs...

We have it planned, hubby stays back here working. We have found a school and after hours arrangement for the kids and all these will be on the school campus where we plan to stay. I am just wondering how best to convince a VO and get the visa.

I heard a case of a rejected application and the University offered to get an immigration lawyer for the applicant to use. Please can anyone confirm this?
Well, if you can really and widely point out how the program is going to better your chances moving forward in your career while also discussing the limitations you have been having due to the disparity in HND and BSC, you could make the VO see the bigger picture in your pursuit for this program.
You can also talk about the 8 years experience you've had which was as a result of the job you got immediately you completed your HND with a distinction and because you have this hunger to reach the highest height in your profession, the limitations in your HND as against a BSC is stalling this and it is why you have opted for the program so you can get a degree in accounting that will give you a foremost advantage of securing an MBA which is your utmost desire to better equip and prepare you for top level managerial position upon return to nigeria. You have to be as detailed as possible.

Your career plan and pattern must be clearly spelt out from step to step on how you intend to achieve them if your study permit is approved for this program.
Remember, you have a wealth of experience in your field and this must also be reflective in how your SOP is drafted and what your desirables will be from a 2 years undergrad program to an MBA in the long run.

How this will be achieved will be more interesting to not just a VO but yourself too. Start from a premise of conviencing yourself then translate in to a VO point of view and clear any rising doubt.

About a univerisity getting an immig lawyer, i think they always want to know the circumstances surrounding a refusal first before they get involved. If it's worth a review, they can help but this is usually in a rare case.

All the best to you.

Thanks for your response sir.
From my research the avg min tuition for the Msc program is 11k or 6k per year. (ref. UofS, UofM, UofV)

Are you suggesting I should concentrate on getting admission first?

Regards
Yes! When you get it, you will know the exact tuition for your program so your financial documents for the study permit will then be built around that and other requirement of CIC.

Hi everyone,

Please i need your candid advise.

I applied for BSc Accounting at Uni of New Brunswick and expecting admission from there any moment from now.

I am preparing for student visa application in advance and need all the information i can get.

I am 35yrs, married with 2kids, have an HND (Accounting), plan to go with the kids while hubby will stay back working (he's our sponsor). What are my chances or how best should i apply? All of us together, just with the kids or as a single applicant?

I have 8yrs+ banking experience and voluntarily resigned last year. We will provide a POF of 40-50mil and honestly tell them i got the bank job effortlessly upon graduation especially because i finished with a distinction but it is now challenging getting a better job because of the discrimination against HND and decided to get a degree in the same course and an opportunity to get an international learning experience of the course...

Please advise me. I want to give it the best shot so i am not denied the chance that i am so looking forward to. Or do you think i may need to get an agent to help put it all together nicely?

Thanks so much everyone, i look forward to learning from you all.
Madam, from your profile and especially the bold statements, this intention may be a very dicey step to make as it will be quite difficult to convience a visa officer why a sudden interest in the same program and at the same level(even though there is little disparity between both) after a good working experience while also considering your age and family situation.

Also, you will have to prove to them how you intend to cope for 4 years with 2kids and family issues too. In this case, the shorter the year(s) of program, the better your chances.
This is not to discourage you but just to see reasons from a perspective that is more realistic.

I think you should apply for a higher degree instead. That way, you would be showing academic progression and also career advancement. 8 years of work experience in itself and in all sense can get one well at the TOP level of management and any academic intentions should project that path or even higher.

Other circumstances(kids, sponsorship) surrounding your study intention should come up when you have the major highlight of your profile as presented here tackled. It's clearly your PURPOSE OF VISIT. Please, do well by addressing it before you eventually apply for a study permit.

All the best to you.

Good evening fellow nairalanders,

I salute your selflessness and support.

I am new to TRV section.

I have been doing investigation on travelling to Canada since late last year.

A certain development at my workplace has geared me up now more than ever to pursue the Canada dream.

I studied elect/elect eng. and finished with 4.02/5.0 in 2013. I'm 27 and single. I have worked for two different telco coy as Field Engineer for 3 years.

I would like to know the best plans as I am currently considering applying for an MSc in Telecommunication in a Canadian University,

I would like to be abreast of the constraints including the financial implication as this seemingly is the biggest bottleneck.

Let say on a budget of N2.5m (December Target).

I'm open to any suggestions and advice

Thanks a million
Your choice and intended master program is good and in line with both your work experience and degree but firstly, you must try to get admission into your proposed program first before you start considering financial aspect of your study permit application. This is because, a number of factors will be considered before you can reach your budget and one of them is your TUITION.

So get admitted first and then you can proceed from there.

Hello everyone, i have B.Sc in materials & metallurgical engineering with 10 years experience in Telecom industry. out of the 10 yrs, i worked in the Technical warehouse dept for 8 years gaining experience in the knowledge of all telecommunication systems equipment and warehouse management.
I intend to apply for 2yr diploma electronics systems Eng in Sask Poly( where i can get skills in communication) OR masters in my undergraduate field. Please advise, which route has better chance of securing TRV. Noting i have passion for telecom engrg. Please advise a brother.
A master in telcoms will be best considering all the years of experience in the field. However, you must clearly elaborate on how your interest evolved from materials and metallurgical engineering to telecoms and your achievements and successes in your new field which you now seek further study and expertise in.

A well detailed Statememt of purpose(SOP) should suffice. But pls get a master admission, your years of experience is clearly requiring that. You've not had significant and sufficient activities in your undergrad field for a long time and convienving a VO why a sudden interest in that area might be aliitle difficult but not impossible. Your best bet will be a master in telecoms or closely related field in IT.

Don't dash them your naira again with this program! If you keep trying with it, you will pay the other half of your tuition as processing fees to CIC accra office.

Endeavour to get a master admission in the field you've had more activities in.

who is saying that 3.74 CGPA is low??....please that CGPA is very ok for admission...the only issue there is the last two years should be more than 80%. some people with 4.00 CGPA with their last two years less than 80% end up not getting admitted....
michaelbelgium:
oga...most schools in canada require second class upper. unless otherwise stated that a 4.00 CGPA of undergraduate is required like in UBC. one should be very much concerned about his/her last two years. there is a clear distinction between GPA and CGPA...that lady was denied based on her GPA(which is her last two years). 3.4 and 4.1 should give approximately 75%. of which 77%-80% is required.
Actually, academically,it is not a LOW cgpa but for the program applied for, her husband's CGPA was low when in comparism and in competition with other applicants with stronger CGPA and application.

Admission always is not a function of CGPA alone. Other factors are considered and moreso when there are quite a number of application but limited acceptance space, So meeting the minimum requirement may not be enough.
Also, the last too years of study is only considered when they consider you a strong applicant. It is not a general rule of consideration. Your whole CGPA is still calculated and considered and must meet their benchmark using their scale (4.0 and it's corresponding percentage for canada). The last 2 years are considered because core courses and some element of research are done during these times. It will given them some guiding as to your capacity to complete the program. It could be seen as good enough for admission or not.

I now want to expand my makeup business to include an international standard spa and so i decided to take a diploma course in esthetician and spa management at Humber College which is 2yrs long(i have been offered an admission already)

My husband will be sponsoring me and his SOA is sufficient enough to cover my tuition, living expense and also cater for himself and my kids in Nigeria as they dont intend to come with me.

I am still at the stage of gathering information that will help my Study Visa Application. So i will like to know if i have a good chance for an approval considering the fact that i studied and practised law for some time but also not forgetting that i acquired proper training for makeup artistry at an international institution and presently running my business in the same field.

i will really appreciate if some can give me advise on if my profile is strong enough to convince a VO to approve a study permit.

Thank you very much.
@Penitential has given you a good advise. You will have a good chance if you do a good job communicating all you pointed out to the VO.
Expantiate further on your passion, achievements and how it is going to help you actualize your desirables in your makeup business.

Also, having had a degree in law and some years of experience, it couldn't have been that you indulged in that without some level of passion no matter how little or big it was at the time. So you may also want to make some point off that alittle and how sucessful you have been in it when you were actively involved and that even with all your sucesses, you still found time to develop your makeup aspiration and now reality.Do not leave it out completely, this way, you make yourself indispensable in your endeavours, a strong and viable character that will also succeed in the field you are seeking a study permit to pursue.

Remember, they will be treating you as a potential permenant immigrant and possible citizen, they will look out for your values, personality, and most importantly, what you will be bringing to their country.

So your chances will boil down to how articulating you presented yourself through your SOP.

About your sponsorship, Before you apply, he can transfer a good amount into your personal account. Make reference to the transfer in his letter of sponsorship and what it is for. Also, hope your husband income will also cater for everbody plus your study aside the available funds.

I did Chemical Engineering in my undergraduate, i currently work in a cement factory as a production Engineer. How can i apply for the GCMS file?
Here is the thing, your undergraduate study is related to your proposed study, fine but your CURRENT employment MAY be bringing questions and doubt about your intentions of studying in the intended oil and gas field. I want to believe you've been the production engineer in the factory for a while now without any activity in the oil and gas (work, research, certifications, symposiums) since you left school.
Now, a VO may likely feel your sudden interest for a higher degree in a field you are not presently having sufficient activities in is not genuine even though you have a related undergraduate degree.

So questions will bother around
-why isn't he going for a further degree in an area he is having progressive knowledge, skills and expertise in presently?
.
- If he truly wants a master in oil and gas, has he shown significant interest in this field overtime(since after undergraduate)?

-Isn't he taking advantage of having a degree in chemical engineering to apply for a master in oil and gas just to go to canada even when his present interest and activities is clearly not in this field?

This is where a statement of purpose (SOP) comes into play to precisely explain why you decided to pursue your present career as a production engineer in a cement factory as against a field(oil and gas) you now want a master degree in(since chem engineering is in line with your current job and your intended study).
Your master degree is to gain further knowledge and skill in oil and gas but you haven't been involved in any major activity in this field since you got your degree so conviencing any VO will be on the knife edge but it is possible.
They now have your profile and any additional information MUST add up to all you intially presented. Take your time to analyse in details why you think a master in oil and gas will be beneficiary to your career and how you intend to you use the master upon graduation and trust me, you would have sold your self to a VO and any possibility of an approval could spring up. Forget the travel history ticked, it's just to make reasons look ambiguous. Purpose of Visit is the main thing here.

About the GCMS file, i actually don't knw which site is cheaper from this one here https://gcmsnotes.ca..
Hopefully the kind guys here will help you with more links to that.Try to get this file first before you re-apply so you can know the exact reasons your application was refused.

All the best in your re-application.

I'm guessing you didn't check back with VFS after you were told it was still in transit. Apparently, they have sent your passport back to the embassy after it got to VFS and you didn't retrieve it.
Did you get a mail or sms to pick up your package from VFS? If you didn't, you should go back to VFS and make further complains. They will give you advise on how to get back your package. Right now, you don't have to worry about medicals, your application has been reviewed and a final decison has been made. Try to get back your documents first.

Petitions like this are hardly useful. These things have a process, and the process have become more involved for Nigerians because so many of us try to apply through dubious means.

An embassy wouldnt ease their immigration process because if an online petition.

Rather than start a petition for Canadian embassy to reduce processing time, we should start a petition for Nigerians to be more honest in their dealings.

Like it or not, this is mostly the fault of Nigerian applicants (and not the embassy). We always rather resolve to easy and dubious measures and we have become known for it. The embassy do their best to protect and maintain standards for their nation.

If your application is good enough they'll eventually approve it. And for the sake of those of us that apply through respectable means, I'm rather happy the embassy takes their time to do their due diligence.

If more dubious individuals were let in to corrupt the system, Canada wouldn't be so appealing, and most of us wouldn't be eager to go there for greener pastures.

Just look what Nigerians have done to our image in places like Malaysia.

For all its worth, I'm in full support of their filtration system. The consequence might be longer processing time, but we Nigerians should learn to endure the consequences of positivity.
Well said brother! I couldn't have agreed more.

LONG POST ALERT!!
I decided to share this whole story and testimony to encourage you out there waiting and looking forward to a positive outcome on your study permit application.

I applied for my study permit (paper/master) on sept 6th 2016 with upfront medical for winter 2017 start. After about 11weeks and few days, i was contacted by CIC and was asked why i hadn't respond to their request for additional document sent 1 week prior(very unusual), i responded that i didn't see such request, screen grabbed myCIC account(i linked my paper app),my email inbox and sent to them.
Apparently, they felt they did as i only had 10 days to respond or have my app refused.
I couldn't even think what additional document it could be as i felt i submitted all documents necessary.
Sent another response to them, for wia! them no send me!
5 days to deadline, i was sent the request and lo and behold the additional doc request was a proof of course registration and school fees payment! I was anxious considering the time left and the whole forex palava.Meanwhile,i already initiated form A process before then, had to cancel it, get the cash and started sourcing for means to pay through black market.

Fast forward to D day, i had not even seen forex to buy let alone initiate a transaction. I just missed the deadline i told myself! Just as i took a deep breathe, i heard in my spirit 'be stil, everything will work in your favour and for your good'
I still tried to make payment days after D day, sent both the telex and school reciept through their email, yet no response. I also had fully registered for my courses as the deadline for this was also fast approaching, had a friend book a cheaper rebookable travel date with the airline he worked for, during all this period, no reply from CIC!
In all these, i noticed i had unusual peace within myself after i missed the deadline, i worried less about my application, i was still reading and helping here as much as i could.
Then boom! God started showing himself! Firstly, i got promoted at work exactly one week after i missed the deadline, also after i didn't hear from CIC, i decided to cancel my reservation since it was rebookable, told the airline why i cancelled it but to my surprise, the responded that after i get my visa and ready to leave, i will be upgraded to business class, their manager was told my predicament and personally did dat(see grooving!) as though that was not enough and when i didn't bother about CIC again, i decided to play small to myCIC akant, brethren! The something had been approved few days ago! I couldn't hold back the smile! It was really soothing to see and know!
I already deferred my start to fall 2017(make i enjoy the new salary o jare!)
The reward of the long wait has been overwhelming.
God has truly showed me his favour and grace throughout those period of waiting! It wasn't funny but we really never know what is waiting for us!
To everyone at different stages of the process, keep pushing and holding on, Things will always work in our favour! You will also share your goodnews!

N/b..got to know CIC contacted the body dat gave me a permit for indefinite stay in the european union to carry out further development on a project we developed few years ago.The fees payment was to show tie to Canada so i won't consider that option.

This is interesting, I wouldn't have known this until someone told me that I can use a SOA of someone that bears the same name with my sponsor, bla bla bla and was about believing the crap. The fact is that I'm a kind of person that always believe that there isn't any shortcuts to success.

Enlighten me on issues like "SOA of someone that bears the same name with my sponsor" (how true is that).
Waiting on you sir and thank for the previous haste reply.
From all the inputs here recently, you already know what that means. Simple and short, it is a fraudulent misrepresentation. Do not buy into such idea. Get your sponsor(original) to build his/her SOA over the stipulated period and use it. Will CIC know if you go ahead with the SOA of a person bearing same surname? Your guess will be as good as mine!

Sorry, moniker --- Austinpee4

Could you enlighten me on what misrepresentation means sir
A false statement of fact. Regarding this context, fraudulent misrepresentation. i.e a false statement was made

(1) knowingly, or

(2) without belief in its truth, or

(3) recklessly, careless whether it be true or false.
Travel › Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Austinpee4:
Ok!! I guess CIC mean business with their warning against fraudulent documents.
Someone i met sometime ago at VFS office just called me to say he has been banned from canada for 5 years for misrepresentation even after using a legal practioner to respond to the email sent to him. Forged signature and doctored SOA from an agent!

Most of us know what that means to an immigration history and profile!
Biko, if you MUST use an agent, ask questions, follow the agent bumper to bumper, review your application together before you submit, if possible, follow the agent to VFS office or stay with him/her if it's online application.
Yes,some agents have intergrity but still ask questions and have some control over your application.

Don't just leave your application because someone says he/she is a professional. You did not certify the person!, you didn't attend the courses together! Take your destiny into your own hands, they are only after your money.
Honestly, nobody really cares about you. You will be the one facing the consequence in the long run and it could be damaging.Do not engage in fraudulent activities when offered or even if it looks good.
Present genuine documents, if you are denied visa, it's still better than a ban because reasons will be given and you can reapply after tackling it(them). Canadian authorities are good with digging out anything they want,it may not be now but they certainly will still get anybody. Pls be careful!

@ Penitential, the best we can do is show them love.

Many people lack values and are desperate to get what they don't merit. The society we live in sometimes encourages that.

"You can query that part" but don't query them for coming here for help.

We need to instill the right values and help them.

Many victims of these unfortunate circumstances are usually greedy, impatient, and desperate people.

Unfortunately, that represents a large proportion of the character of Nigerian youths.

We can be the CHANGE!
The thing is, a lot of us know the right things and the right values but choose to feign ignorance to them. In our quest for better lives, good fortune and with the seemingly 'smart' nature of nigerians, people delibrately do these things to
1.exploit and take advantages of people's desperation.
2.Believe the consequence is submountable or they will be smarter.
It's really sad that we are seeing a re-occurance of these singular acts both from some dubious agents and applicants.
Personally i don't believe applicants approaching these agents are totally ignorant of the fraudulent documents used, they just didn't ask enough questions or decided to take the risk.
While this forum is here to help people achieve their desires and guide people through out the study in canada procedures, it will always see people with these kind of situations, let's keep helping others than genuinely need help and frown against people involved in unscrupulous activities regardless.

I won't be surprised after all these said about dubious and fraudulent activities another dimension or story is seen here the next minute regarding the same issue even after so much warning against it.
It's just embedded in our nigerian nature, some people like the faster lane irrespective of how the arrive there.
CIC is aware of these and have been seeing situations like this for a long time and trust me, the know the right way to handle it. It's really an unfortunate situation.

My only hope is that someday, we realise dat more to the way we achieve what we have in mind, we also know there is the life out there in itself. It may or not be what we are thinking.
we must always do the right things.
