When will the press and the security agencies learn that some informations are too sensitive to be published, such as the name of the person responsible for the arrest. Now his life might just be at risk.

lymelyte: Well done fashola. You see dubai, that the way they started. For once,we all should embrace development, civilization and upliftment. smiley
how did they start? By chasing the poor away or by enacting anti-masses policies?
Dubai's rise was the vision for a better tomorrow for all. I am scared to classify what Fashola is doing to Lagos.

We should learn to follow or copy the present day best. ok.
When u sh-it; u pay for it
When u use the Government road; u pay for it. Etc
Without Taxes, no nation can function nor develop.

The world is a Market place. Globalization & cutting-edge technology. Change. Change. Change.
Tradition is now less important. This is the "new world order".
Nothing is free.
sounds like capitalism to me and not development. Innovation is one factor that clearly differentiates developed nations from developing/under-developed nations. The welfare of its people should be the topmost priority of any 'responsible government', and not how they appear to foreign eyes.
I guess fashola's government is responsible, responsible to the elites. Hence his policies seem to favour them.
I'd like to seem him switch Logos state's Tax policy from proportional to progressive, thus collecting more tax from the rich and less from the poor, particularly because, they seem to be the ones benefiting from the current Lagos and its helps in redistribution income.
Nigeria is an oil rich state, that doesnt need to strain its citizens for money (tax), much of the development in the middle east (UAE, Iran, Israel etc) weren't funded with tax but oil money.
Its high time we derive full utility from our resources and allow our citizen relax.

Waterway: Policies should be made that improves the lives of majority of the people and provide good & clear alternatives.
The rash of bad policies only continues to highlight how the "rich/bourgeois" are uncomfortable with the lives of the "poor".
These policy makers need to create jobs! making policies that stimulates local economy and create jobs. Jobs create the middle class and that moves a segment of society to the point where they can live with such policy change. A middle class that can afford cloth washing machine and dryer. Of course you need steady power supply which the govt has not been able to provide. Young graduates that can come together and get Small business loan from banks at rates subsidized by govt of the state. You see these policies are highlighting symptoms in a system ravaged by a disease ---corruption of infinite proportions--. The present day fed & state govt is giving the wrong prescription to segment of society that does not matter to them, because they have no VOICE. Yes, no voice and that applies to most of us on this forum and 90% of Nigerians!!!!. But you push this segment to the brink and since it has nothing to loose, it will unleash its suppressed might on the bourgeois in Lagos/Nigeria. Remember the French revolution ..... I see the Nigerian revolution coming.

Fine for tinted glass........
Fine for digging boreholes............
Fine for Line drying your clothes in your own house (not in a business district) ............
Soon there will be fine for not owing a car/or walking our roads .............

So do you see the wisdom in this policies by a govt that has not done its part and want citizens to bear full responsibility for their mess!!!
I in many ways subscribe to your argument. Lagosians (majority poor/middle class) have been sold the image of a fine and developed Lagos, and that's all they are going to get. A picture perfect state, with clear class divisions. Most of the controversial policies emanating from Lagos can be seen as targeting the poor. Previous government had been okay with 'baricading' the poor in the suburbs, now the policy is aimed at probably reclaiming some suburbs for the bourgeoisie (make lagos too expensive for the poor).
These people made Lagos what it is today, it was there before Fashola and it will remain after his exit.

AGBOR-MAN:
The main reason our Africa continent is still backward is "inability to change".
We blacks hate to change. We like to be doing the same thing but expects a different result. Insane.
The western world is "change, change, change". Africa is "no change, no change, no change",
Its our tradition not to change. Tradition my ass-hole.

Gov Fashiola should please as a matter of urgency introduce:
House Tax.
Car Tax
Election Tax
Water Tax
Security Tax
Waste collection tax
Petrol tax.
Car parking tax

Etc Etc Etc

Pls don't abuse me oh. I'm just using my citizen freedom of speech. Thks & have a nice day.
Once you loose or lack understanding of the premise for an idea, we become slaves to tradition. Why impose silly taxes in the first place? Tax is meant to get funds for the state. Is lagos lacking funds? Heck NO, the basic taxes are good enough. Just because US and other 'leading' nation are following an idea is no reason to follow suit.
The desperate pursuit of 'development//westernization' is costing us too much. We are giving away our God given rights and privileges. Fencing ourselves in live prisoners, being strangers to our neighbours, losing the very values the hold our society.
Instead of westernizing Nigeria, lets develop with our traditions in mind. If we keep following the steps of the current world powers we would eventually end up like them and not better.
God save us all.

funnyfun: For Lagos to become d mega city we all dream of, things like this shd be eradicated. Even if u've not bn 2 any of dis advanced countries, @ least u see them on d TV. Do u eva see things like dis in these countries? Ride on jare, Fashola.
if this is the kind of crap we model ourselves after, then I am sorry for Nigeria.
Must we westernize Lagos for it to be fully developed? Fashola isn't balanced in his policies, and he (consciously or otherwise) is creating future problems for Lagos and its inhabitants.
One day, we'll find ourselves walking somewhere on the streets of Lagos and we'll wonder when, how and why the true spirit of lagos was killed.

No. 32
The Feeling Game: the hate we call love

My tears is as water,
water to your tasty soul.
My words are as dust,
dust to an Eskimo,
It holds no meaning to you.
To you my smile is as fire works in a graveyard,
idle and wasted.
Daily I yearn for you,
wondering if you'd ever look,
look and see,
see the fire that burns in me,
the fire that burns for you,
but as stars to a drowning man,
you pay no attention.
Your disappointments get me weaker,
my pains offer you eternal pleasure,
so you bask in the river of pain you cause me.
To you I offer this,
to fill your unending hunger.
A message from one with a heart that aches,
to another with a heart that's dead,
I hope this brings you pleasure.

Cuddlemii: ~FEEDBACK~

Questions:
Please, read the guidelines properly, and understand them. Every other information will be provided, as we commence. The competition is still a month from now, it's not compulsory that you know the entire process, today. We will guide you through each process as we proceed. Focus on writing good poems, and let's handle the rest.

Names:

If your name is not included on the list, immediately, do not bother about that. On the 13th of Aug, 2012, everybody is more than welcome to submit on the official thread. If you just want to let us know in advance that you'd be participating, then, you can do so.
"am in as a poet!"
"am in as a designer!"

Topic Release:

Still working on the topics. Will release them, once I am done. It's only needed for round 2

@everyone:
thank you & read the feedback.
based on the list of poets and designers interested in this competition, it is clear that we are lacking designers.
Don't know if i am over-stepping my bounds but, wouldn't it be a good idea posting some sort of invitation in the tech section for designers (since that's where they dwell)?

Its definitely gonna be fun filled.
As for your ogas, remember they are rooting for you, and you also give some people jitters 8-)...

Oahray: hmmm... Plenty talk. I think you meant "so few CELEBRATED poems".
'Masterpiece' is definitely subjective, and all the more so with poetry. I've read better poems (in my opinion) than the most celebrated ones. Just do your thing and have fun while at it.
on point.....

princesa: if it takes 6 months to write a master piece, then we would have just 2 'master piece' poems in a year. Pretty dragging don't you think?

Anyway, wish you luck too......your masterpiece should make it past the first round. I wonder if my one hour poem can put up with such competition.

Don't worry, am gonna cheer you to finals wink
:Dperhaps that explains why there are so few master pieces in the world.
First round? I guess we'll never find out, i am using something different (so I can have an excuse if I lose, :DJK). I read some of your works and they are pretty good, I am excited to see you write something outside romance. You definitely won't have issues with the first round.
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's "The Poet" Competition Season 2 by ayd91(m): 3:27pm On Jul 12, 2013
princesa: 6 months for a poem! shocked
even if were a novel!

Anyway like i said, i can pen down a poem within a short time, especially when am really emotional or under a certain inspiration. Writing a poem shouldn't be a struggle, it something that comes from deep within and that's the beauty of it. One can't feel the same way every hour or every month, in the next month or hour, you can pen down the poem differently. So why the waste, erasing and rewriting?

When i write a poem, the only thing i can possibly go back to change are words and maybe to brush up on the rhymes. others remain static.

A poem should flow out from a person in a particular situation at a particular time, and emotion don't remain the same always. That exactly is my point.

(Atleast, am an example of that).
the pursuit of perfection has its price (time and efforts), I discovered it was just an illusion (beauty is in the eyes of the beholder), your work is perfect when you believe it so. Anybody can finish a "poem" but not all can make a "poem" a master piece.
writer's block isn't just a myth you know. Anyways, its great knowing their are worthy poets around.
Goodluck in the competition (and don't say you don't need it), if we make it to the finals, I'll be wanting the goodluck backcheesy,,

princesa: almost a month is way more time, i can couple a poem even in a day, kini big deal? cool
I see your point, but be honest what's the longest it has taken you to complete a poem and how different was it from the rest.
Mine was 6 months and it turned out great, my shortest lasted less than 10 mins.
Time may not necessarily affect quality but it sure gives ample upportunity to get inspired, lose inspiration, get it back, cancel and whatnot.
Its pretty different when you are writing free style and when you are restricted to a topic of someone else's choice, I guess more time is needed for proper delivery. #just my thoughts#

HumbledbYGrace: If you can show us proof of ownership then we gladly accept your work.

I am very sure that poets are creative writers, they turn even something useless into a valued possesion. That's what makes them special, so please no duplicates, thrill the Judges.
'and thrill I shall'

thanks for the info.

HumbledbYGrace: 1. Once you post your poem here, anyone can use it anywhere. Don't bring poems that had ever hit the internet before or your disqualified. We will absolutely check for duplicates tongue

Its up to you guys, which poem will be first? Your best or your worst?

Do remember though First Impression counts grin
pardon me, does this mean we aren't allowed to submit already published works (internet and print)? If this is so, its a bit unfair to those who have published the best of their works. And can a compromise be reached if the participant can show adequate proof of ownership?

Buhari may not be a Boko-Haram sponsor (no known fact to claim otherwise), but one clear fact is he isn't an anti-Boko Haram crusader.
I think this is because he is worried about how it might affect his image up North if he is seen as going against a Northern Group with Islamic Ideology. This i Believe is a misplacement of priority on his part, considering how far condemning Boko haram would have led to a reduction in the followership of Boko Haram up North.
PoliticsRe: Boko-Haram Kills Students & Fishermen In Maiduguri by ayd91(m): 9:18am On Jun 19, 2013
Pataki: Stop regurgitating this absolute foolishness.

Boko Haram is PDP. Ask your president why he has not dealt with the list of Boko Haram members he has in his hands.

GEJ stop killing innocent Nigerians! Nigerians in the North are now becoming refugees in Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic.

This is the plan of GEJ and his boko haram......weaken the population of the North against 2015 elections using boko haram as a menace and terror to innocent and populous Nigerians living in the North.

GEJ stop killing innocent Nigerians!!!
am I the only who thinks this stinks? This it obviously myopic and actually pathetic. GEJ destroying the North? To do this he would have simply folded his arms and watched in amazement as the north tears itself apart. Look for other justifications and quit following the band wagon of lazy thinkers.
No offense intended but it just had to be said.

I woke up around 3:15 am to start the gen cos of the usual power cuts when I came out side I realized the whole town was in complete black out which is unusual cos theres always some district that has light, my house help guy told me not to worry as he would man the generator so me and my friend waited outside on the varander as it was too hot inside, as we waited I noticed my friend staring into the far distance over the top of the house he called my attention and said he could see something in the sky I stood up and saw nine floresent glowing balls of light in the far distance they flew in a delta or Vee formation at first I thought it was some kind of aircraft but as it few closer n closer it was evident this was no fxxxing air craft this thing or things where huge and the most scary thing is they didnt make a sound no a single sound they glided silently across the sky banked sightly to left and slowly headed towards the horizon we watched until they disappered over the horizon towards the Mandara mountain ranges.
Im now a firm believer in the presence of aliens Lol just as a Cat knows a Dog is not a Cat so I know that thing was not of Man's creation.
hmmm that must have been really scary and marvelous at the same time.
At time i don't know which is better, the hide and seek approach or the full disclosure of their presence. Either way its unphantomable.
