Nice. Now this reali caught my eyes "PRIZE: 1st Place- $1,5002nd Place- $750 3rd Place- $300 Two Honorable Mentions- $200 each". Its a cool upportunity to make money and express ourselves. http://www.naijacompetitions.com/2013/08/the-fountain-2013-essay-contest.html |
When will the press and the security agencies learn that some informations are too sensitive to be published, such as the name of the person responsible for the arrest. Now his life might just be at risk. |
This all good but, I don't think it reflects the reality in Nigeria. Just my opinion. |
Wow! Its pretty logical, almost anybody could have fallen for that. He seems intelligent oo, he should have used that for something positive. |
lymelyte: Well done fashola. You see dubai, that the way they started. For once,we all should embrace development, civilization and upliftment.how did they start? By chasing the poor away or by enacting anti-masses policies? Dubai's rise was the vision for a better tomorrow for all. I am scared to classify what Fashola is doing to Lagos. |
AGBOR-MAN:sounds like capitalism to me and not development. Innovation is one factor that clearly differentiates developed nations from developing/under-developed nations. The welfare of its people should be the topmost priority of any 'responsible government', and not how they appear to foreign eyes. I guess fashola's government is responsible, responsible to the elites. Hence his policies seem to favour them. I'd like to seem him switch Logos state's Tax policy from proportional to progressive, thus collecting more tax from the rich and less from the poor, particularly because, they seem to be the ones benefiting from the current Lagos and its helps in redistribution income. Nigeria is an oil rich state, that doesnt need to strain its citizens for money (tax), much of the development in the middle east (UAE, Iran, Israel etc) weren't funded with tax but oil money. Its high time we derive full utility from our resources and allow our citizen relax. |
Waterway: Policies should be made that improves the lives of majority of the people and provide good & clear alternatives.I in many ways subscribe to your argument. Lagosians (majority poor/middle class) have been sold the image of a fine and developed Lagos, and that's all they are going to get. A picture perfect state, with clear class divisions. Most of the controversial policies emanating from Lagos can be seen as targeting the poor. Previous government had been okay with 'baricading' the poor in the suburbs, now the policy is aimed at probably reclaiming some suburbs for the bourgeoisie (make lagos too expensive for the poor). These people made Lagos what it is today, it was there before Fashola and it will remain after his exit. |
AGBOR-MAN:Once you loose or lack understanding of the premise for an idea, we become slaves to tradition. Why impose silly taxes in the first place? Tax is meant to get funds for the state. Is lagos lacking funds? Heck NO, the basic taxes are good enough. Just because US and other 'leading' nation are following an idea is no reason to follow suit. The desperate pursuit of 'development//westernization' is costing us too much. We are giving away our God given rights and privileges. Fencing ourselves in live prisoners, being strangers to our neighbours, losing the very values the hold our society. Instead of westernizing Nigeria, lets develop with our traditions in mind. If we keep following the steps of the current world powers we would eventually end up like them and not better. God save us all. |
funnyfun: For Lagos to become d mega city we all dream of, things like this shd be eradicated. Even if u've not bn 2 any of dis advanced countries, @ least u see them on d TV. Do u eva see things like dis in these countries? Ride on jare, Fashola.if this is the kind of crap we model ourselves after, then I am sorry for Nigeria. Must we westernize Lagos for it to be fully developed? Fashola isn't balanced in his policies, and he (consciously or otherwise) is creating future problems for Lagos and its inhabitants. One day, we'll find ourselves walking somewhere on the streets of Lagos and we'll wonder when, how and why the true spirit of lagos was killed. |
No. 32 The Feeling Game: the hate we call love My tears is as water, water to your tasty soul. My words are as dust, dust to an Eskimo, It holds no meaning to you. To you my smile is as fire works in a graveyard, idle and wasted. Daily I yearn for you, wondering if you'd ever look, look and see, see the fire that burns in me, the fire that burns for you, but as stars to a drowning man, you pay no attention. Your disappointments get me weaker, my pains offer you eternal pleasure, so you bask in the river of pain you cause me. To you I offer this, to fill your unending hunger. A message from one with a heart that aches, to another with a heart that's dead, I hope this brings you pleasure. |
Cuddlemii: ~FEEDBACK~based on the list of poets and designers interested in this competition, it is clear that we are lacking designers. Don't know if i am over-stepping my bounds but, wouldn't it be a good idea posting some sort of invitation in the tech section for designers (since that's where they dwell)? |
How many hours must they (ASUU) wait to be attended to? Its logical to work away and reschedule for another time. Good news from ASUP, hope it translates to positive results. Surely everything with a beginning has an end, we are watching ASUU + FGN...... |
princesa: i know romance sucks! Buh what can we do? It sells like pancake and we need the moneylol, Can't say am not nervous, that would be a lie. My racing heart bears witness .This is an opportunity to be read, i believe that's what matters the most (i wouldn't mind an award though ).Its definitely gonna be fun filled. As for your ogas, remember they are rooting for you, and you also give some people jitters 8-)... |
Oahray: hmmm... Plenty talk. I think you meant "so few CELEBRATED poems".on point..... |
HumbledbYGrace: Four words; I am your fan.I am humbled by your Grace, . |
princesa: if it takes 6 months to write a master piece, then we would have just 2 'master piece' poems in a year. Pretty dragging don't you think?:Dperhaps that explains why there are so few master pieces in the world. First round? I guess we'll never find out, i am using something different (so I can have an excuse if I lose, :DJK). I read some of your works and they are pretty good, I am excited to see you write something outside romance. You definitely won't have issues with the first round. |
princesa: 6 months for a poem!the pursuit of perfection has its price (time and efforts), I discovered it was just an illusion (beauty is in the eyes of the beholder), your work is perfect when you believe it so. Anybody can finish a "poem" but not all can make a "poem" a master piece. writer's block isn't just a myth you know. Anyways, its great knowing their are worthy poets around. Goodluck in the competition (and don't say you don't need it), if we make it to the finals, I'll be wanting the goodluck back ,, |
olenyi: No. Only for strong decoders. Don't know about daarsat.thanks boss. |
princesa: almost a month is way more time, i can couple a poem even in a day, kini big deal?I see your point, but be honest what's the longest it has taken you to complete a poem and how different was it from the rest. Mine was 6 months and it turned out great, my shortest lasted less than 10 mins. Time may not necessarily affect quality but it sure gives ample upportunity to get inspired, lose inspiration, get it back, cancel and whatnot. Its pretty different when you are writing free style and when you are restricted to a topic of someone else's choice, I guess more time is needed for proper delivery. #just my thoughts# |
olenyi: Try pressing 6969 twice before pressing 8280.please sir, is this also possible on daarsat decoders, if so how? |
Cuddlemii: It is okay. If it's your published work(print and internet), it is fine.thanks for the clarification. |
HumbledbYGrace: If you can show us proof of ownership then we gladly accept your work.'and thrill I shall' thanks for the info. |
HumbledbYGrace: 1. Once you post your poem here, anyone can use it anywhere. Don't bring poems that had ever hit the internet before or your disqualified. We will absolutely check for duplicatespardon me, does this mean we aren't allowed to submit already published works (internet and print)? If this is so, its a bit unfair to those who have published the best of their works. And can a compromise be reached if the participant can show adequate proof of ownership? |
Wow, great opportunity to test/confirm the stuff I am made of. Being confident (publicly) has never been my strongest point, I hide being my pen and sail on the waves of poetry backed by reality and imagination, the perfect mix. I am so in. |

If I can't even trust myself with her, why would do that with another? LoL. Next topic please......... |
Buhari may not be a Boko-Haram sponsor (no known fact to claim otherwise), but one clear fact is he isn't an anti-Boko Haram crusader. I think this is because he is worried about how it might affect his image up North if he is seen as going against a Northern Group with Islamic Ideology. This i Believe is a misplacement of priority on his part, considering how far condemning Boko haram would have led to a reduction in the followership of Boko Haram up North. |
Pataki: Stop regurgitating this absolute foolishness.am I the only who thinks this stinks? This it obviously myopic and actually pathetic. GEJ destroying the North? To do this he would have simply folded his arms and watched in amazement as the north tears itself apart. Look for other justifications and quit following the band wagon of lazy thinkers. No offense intended but it just had to be said. |
So all these years pasted by without any credible security report on them. Was the SSS sleeping? Na wa o. There is no sense in fighting more than one war at a time. Clear BK haram first before going after the rest. Which way Nigeria? |
Hmmmm. Seems like tomb raiders are already concluding plans to show their respect and relieve his casket of the burdensome gold. |
quintet: Me and a friend witnessed something very strange in the night sky this was during my time in Nigeria in 2004 in Adamawa state to be exact. I woke up around 3:15 am to start the gen cos of the usual power cuts when I came out side I realized the whole town was in complete black out which is unusual cos theres always some district that has light, my house help guy told me not to worry as he would man the generator so me and my friend waited outside on the varander as it was too hot inside, as we waited I noticed my friend staring into the far distance over the top of the house he called my attention and said he could see something in the sky I stood up and saw nine floresent glowing balls of light in the far distance they flew in a delta or Vee formation at first I thought it was some kind of aircraft but as it few closer n closer it was evident this was no fxxxing air craft this thing or things where huge and the most scary thing is they didnt make a sound no a single sound they glided silently across the sky banked sightly to left and slowly headed towards the horizon we watched until they disappered over the horizon towards the Mandara mountain ranges.hmmm that must have been really scary and marvelous at the same time. At time i don't know which is better, the hide and seek approach or the full disclosure of their presence. Either way its unphantomable. |
